Heavyweights Deliver a Spectacular Finale in Tashkent

The final day in Tashkent saw thrilling heavyweight action. Murad Fatiyev shocked Lasha Bekauri, Kaila Issoufi secured her first Grand Slam gold, Said Sadrudinov made history for Bahrain, and Akira Sone returned to the top. A dramatic finish closed an unforgettable weekend.

00:00The third and final day of this year's OTP Group Tashkent Grand Slam
00:04saw the heavyweights take centre stage at the Humo Arena.
00:10The crowd were ready for action.
00:13At under 90kg, Lasha Bakaori, the double Olympic champion,
00:17made it to the final, where he met Murad Fatyev.
00:20And it was Fatyev who shot the Georgian, scoring with a low Taiatoshi.
00:25A second career Grand Slam goal for the man from Azerbaijan.
00:33The support was outstanding.
00:35I heard they were chanting,
00:37Azerbaijan! Azerbaijan!
00:39This gave me extra motivation to become the winner.
00:43International Judo Federation Education and Coaching Director,
00:47Mr. Mohamed Maridja, was on hand to award the medals.
00:50At under 78kg, Kaila Isufi took on Anna Montaulek.
00:55And it was the dynamic Frenchwoman who upgraded
00:58her two previous Grand Slam bronze medals to her first gold,
01:02keeping concentration to secure an arm lock and force the submission.
01:09It was just amazing. Everybody was screaming, cheering for me.
01:13A lot of pictures. It really warmed my heart. I didn't expect.
01:17And I'm so happy. It's my first time here. And I hope not the last.
01:21She was awarded her medal by Mr. Armin Bagdasarov,
01:25International Judo Federation Head Referee Director.
01:28At under 100kg, Uzbekistan's Ernazar Sarcenbaev faced Syed Sadrudinov,
01:34who managed to earn Bahrain's first ever IJF World Tour gold medal,
01:39snatching a dramatic victory in the dying seconds.
01:42He was awarded his medal by Uzbekistan Judo Federation President,
01:46Mr. Aziz John Kamilov.
01:49At plus 78kg, Akira Sone saw off the challenge of Lea Fontaine by way of a yuko.
01:58A first title in three years for the former world and Olympic champion.
02:03The medals were awarded by International Judo Federation Head Sport Director,
02:07Mr. Vladimir Barter.
02:12At plus 100kg, the crowd were ready for home hero, Alisha Yusupov.
02:19He was facing off against Kanan Nasibov.
02:22And Nasibov broke Uzbek hearts with a hold down in golden score.
02:31He was awarded his medal by Olympic Council of Asia Vice President,
02:35Mr. Otebek Umarov.
02:38Throughout the event, and especially today,
02:41the Uzbek athletes showed their strength and determination,
02:45coming up time and time again with some breathtaking Judo.
