00:00We are going to talk a little Eagles-Vikings.
00:02And yes, there's a lot to get to with Philadelphia,
00:04but there is a little bit of breaking news
00:06coming out of Minnesota this morning, Joe.
00:09Some very interesting news.
00:11Adam Schefter of ESPN is reporting
00:15that for J.J. McCarthy,
00:20he thinks a week nine return
00:23against the Detroit Lions
00:26is what we should all expect.
00:29Okay.
00:30Here is the problem with the reporting from Schefter.
00:34And I know he is the biggest reporter in the world,
00:38but unfortunately that means that we all see the tweets
00:41and the tweets are there
00:42and we can go back to them whenever we want.
00:45So the most recent Adam Schefter tweet reads,
00:48when Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy
00:50suffered a week two high ankle sprain,
00:54doctors expected it to be a six-week injury.
00:58Nothing has changed.
00:59That's interesting.
01:01Yeah.
01:02Because when J.J. McCarthy went down with the injury,
01:07Adam Schefter tweeted,
01:09sources, Vikings quarterback J.J. McCarthy
01:11is expected to be sidelined two to four weeks
01:15with a high ankle sprain.
01:17If you have a player who is expected to miss six weeks,
01:22you put that player on IR.
01:25It's really simple.
01:28Right.
01:28It's a four-week stint.
01:29He's never,
01:30you're never playing him.
01:32So,
01:33somebody
01:35is lying.
01:37somebody
01:39watched the first-round quarterback
01:42and went,
01:44whoo-hoo,
01:45that's bad.
01:46Oh,
01:46that's real bad.
01:48And then put in a professional
01:50in Carson Wentz
01:52and went,
01:53well,
01:53that looks a lot better.
01:55And they decided,
01:56hey,
01:57Carson,
01:57if we put enough Band-Aids and glue,
02:01can we hold you upright for just a little bit longer?
02:06Oh,
02:06we can?
02:07Yeah.
02:08It was always six weeks for J.J. McCarthy.
02:11No,
02:12it
02:13wasn't.
02:14When the McCarthy injury,
02:17which,
02:17by the way,
02:18he played until the last snap of the game
02:21against the Falcons,
02:22and then all of a sudden on,
02:25like,
02:26Monday,
02:27they're like,
02:28yeah,
02:28he's going to be out
02:29for two to four weeks.
02:30We don't really know.
02:31Immediately,
02:32it was weird.
02:34And now,
02:35this reporting,
02:36which attempts to
02:38scream,
02:40McCarthy's not getting benched,
02:41they don't prefer Wentz,
02:43no,
02:43no,
02:43no,
02:43no,
02:44no,
02:44is basically confirming Joe.
02:47They're sticking with Wentz
02:48because Wentz has been
02:50much better
02:51than what they got out of their
02:53first-round draft pick
02:54of two years ago,
02:5610th overall,
02:57J.J. McCarthy.
02:58Am I being unfair?
03:00No.
03:00They got two wins with him,
03:01right?
03:01Carson Wentz,
03:02and he put up 350 in the loss
03:04to the Pittsburgh Steelers,
03:06right?
03:06He's getting the football
03:07to the playmakers,
03:08and that's all that matters
03:09is can you deliver the football,
03:12a la Joe Flacco,
03:13to the most important player
03:15on your offense,
03:16which is Justin Jefferson,
03:17and all of the playmakers around them
03:19like Jordan Addison.
03:20And if you can do that,
03:22you're going to have a job
03:23in the NFL.
03:23And the one thing
03:25that J.J. McCarthy did
03:26was he did it in the first game
03:27in the fourth quarter.
03:28That's all well and good,
03:30but he followed it up,
03:31getting abused by the Atlanta Falcons
03:33and potentially getting hurt,
03:34right?
03:35Yeah.
03:35And this is it.
03:37O'Connell's dealt with injuries
03:39now in back-to-back years.
03:40He saw McCarthy go down last year,
03:43and he saw Sam Darnold
03:44had one of his most prolific
03:45passing years in his career,
03:48which led Sam Darnold
03:49to the Seattle Seahawks.
03:5135 touchdowns,
03:534,000 yards.
03:54I mean, come on.
03:55I mean,
03:56are you going to get that
03:57with J.J. McCarthy?
03:59Absolutely not,
04:00at least at this point
04:01in his career.
04:02He doesn't have enough
04:03game experience.
04:04He looks like a deer
04:05in the headlights
04:06at particular points
04:08against better competition.
04:11And Carson Wentz
04:12is good enough
04:13at this point
04:14with that defense
04:16to potentially carry you
04:18to a wild card.
04:19And that's all that
04:20O'Connell wants
04:21at this point.
04:22But I just want to be
04:24very clear about something.
04:25But they're going to have,
04:26let me just say this.
04:27Go ahead.
04:27If Carson Wentz now
04:29is because,
04:30what are they,
04:313-2 entering this game?
04:34Yeah.
04:34They somehow,
04:35someway win today.
04:37They're 4-2.
04:38Yep.
04:39He's not giving back
04:40the job.
04:41No shot.
04:42No shot.
04:42No shot.
04:42No shot.
04:42No shot.
04:42No shot.
