00:01OK, we're with Sam Morton, just in the bowels of the Amex Stadium,
00:04just coming out for Fabian Herzog's press conference.
00:07After their 2-1 win against Newcastle, two great goals from Danny Welbeck
00:11and a lovely goal from Newcastle's Waldemate level to scores,
00:16but Welbeck got the late winner.
00:18What were your thoughts on that, Sam?
00:19Yeah, I thought it was a fantastic performance for Brighton,
00:22probably the most complete display I've seen from them this season.
00:25They've had some big wins.
00:26As we know, the Man City win, being probably the best one up until now.
00:32It was just another similar kind of performance, really,
00:35where I felt they were really just in control of what they were doing
00:39and a clear game plan.
00:41I thought Newcastle were quite poor for most of the game, to be fair.
00:45I was quite disappointed with what I saw from them,
00:47but Brighton were, I thought, really impressive throughout the match
00:51and deserved to be ahead before the half-time whistle.
00:54It was a lovely goal from Danny Welbeck from Jorginho's free ball.
00:57You just never thought Welbeck was going to miss from there.
00:59No, no.
01:00Lovely finish.
01:01It was a lovely finish.
01:05Right in half the second half were a team possessed.
01:07They had so many chances and they were really just on the front foot
01:10and you felt they needed that second goal.
01:11And it proved to be the case because Waldemar just scored a superb, audacious goal.
01:17Yeah, it was such a nice goal.
01:20The cross was behind him and the way he improvised just to turn it in
01:24and Verbruggen tried to save it, but he just must have thought,
01:28how did he do that?
01:29How did he do that?
01:29It was a great goal, wasn't it?
01:31Yeah, and Van Hex made a similar comment just now in the mid-zone
01:35that he just didn't know how he managed to do it
01:37and he thought he was kind of keeping control of him and doing really well
01:40and to keep him quiet, keep Newcastle forwards quiet
01:43and just out of nowhere, just an absolute moment of magic.
01:46But Brighton responded really well to that moment.
01:48It was Matt Spiefer actually, who had a brilliant game.
01:51They were criticised for their performance of Wolves, those two in particular.
01:56And I was admittedly a bit surprised to see them both start
01:59and a lot of fans were, but they proved me and them wrong really.
02:03I think it was a really good report to me, but obviously he was going through on goal
02:07and just as he was trying to kind of get a shot off, Dan Byrne managed to block it
02:11but then Danny Welbert was in the right place at the right time.
02:16Once again, he knows where the goal is
02:19and it was another of Danny Welbeck's show
02:22which you've seen so many of them in a right show
02:24and he loves the goal against Newcastle.
02:26He does, doesn't he?
02:27Eddie Howe was just saying in there how he always seems to score against him
02:30and he'll be glad to see the back of him, I'm sure.
02:34But he's such a class act
02:36and Hersella was just saying in there that he was just about to take him off as well
02:40because Tommy Watson was warming up,
02:43Cheryl Amposkos-Doulas was warming up as well
02:45and he was about to get hooked until he got the winner.
02:47So it just goes to show he's always alive, isn't he?
02:51He's 34 years old but he's great, isn't he?
02:53He knows where to be, he knows where the goal is
02:55and that's all you can ask for for a striker.
02:57It's a tough ask trying to replace him really
03:00and it'll be interesting to see what we can see with him as in Kostoulas
03:02which obviously we've not seen much of them
03:04especially because Kostoulas has a real proper first glimpse of him today
03:08and he's obviously got a few minutes.
03:10I think as time goes on, the experience that Welbeck will be able to pass down to them
03:13and the words of wisdom and whatnot I think will be really vital
03:17as well as Ryan try to replace him in the coming years
03:20because he's not going to be able to keep doing it forever.
03:23That's true.
03:23Enjoy it while we still can I think
03:27but it moves them up to about 9th
03:30I think they're just 3 points off the Champions League places now
03:32so it was a really important win in terms of morale and league position
03:37and fans' perception of their season I think.
03:40100%
03:40Yeah, it was a really important win to recover from that display of Wolves
03:44which was below par
03:45and now they're obviously off to Manchester United
03:47which is a very winnable game as well
03:50so I think that's what's important now is to build on this
03:52which they've not managed to do this season.
03:54They've had a good win
03:55and it's kind of been backed down to earth really quickly
03:58so hopefully they can build on this one.
04:00Good stuff.
04:01Well, all the player ratings are up on the Sussex World website now
04:04and we'll have all the latest comments from Herzello and Eddie Howe
