00:00:00Welcome to WatchMojo, and today we're counting down our picks for the creepiest, most unsettling,
00:00:10and most terrible events to be captured during live broadcasts, TV, and live streams across
00:00:14the globe.
00:00:2075. Manila Bus Hostage Crisis
00:00:23In 2010, after being fired as a police officer over accusations of extortion, Rolando Mendoza
00:00:28sought revenge. Armed with weapons, he got aboard a Hong Kong tourist bus in Manila, Philippines,
00:00:33and took it hostage.
00:00:33The gunman had posted his list of demands onto the windscreen of the bus.
00:00:37While Mendoza requested his job back with benefits, news companies arrived in the area to film
00:00:41the crisis, which lasted for nearly 12 hours.
00:00:43As the daylight starts to fade, and it rains, progress seems to have stalled.
00:00:49Even the negotiations between officers and Mendoza were broadcast, which was criticized
00:00:53afterward, especially when they broke down when one negotiator, Mendoza's brother, was
00:00:57arrested for not having approval. Mendoza began killing hostages as officers struggled
00:01:01to get inside. In the end, Mendoza and eight hostages were killed. How the crisis was handled
00:01:06led to hostilities between Hong Kong and the Philippines for several years.
00:01:1074. Sita's Celestial Calling
00:01:12During Season 2 of Big Brother Brazil in 2002, contestant Sita Moraes was enjoying the sun
00:01:18when she suddenly heard someone calling her name.
00:01:27Springing to her feet, she asked the other contestants if they'd called her, but they denied it to begin
00:01:31with. Yet soon after, Thais Pugliese claimed she heard Moraes' name. However, Pugliese soon
00:01:37confided that she lied as she was worried about Moraes' mental health.
00:01:40Moraes later discovered that on that day, her sister Gloria had passed away after battling
00:01:48cancer. She believed that Gloria was calling her name and felt her sister's presence before
00:01:52she departed for the afterlife.
00:01:5473. Earthquake in the Studio
00:01:55Usually, news broadcasters are detached from the events they're announcing. However, SETI News
00:02:01was feeling the effects of their breaking news while live on air.
00:02:04Video from Taiwan's SETI News in Taipei shows an on-air reporter delivering a weather segment
00:02:10before earthquake alerts appear on screen.
00:02:12In 2024, a 7.4 magnitude earthquake struck the Taiwanese city of Hualien. 19 people tragically
00:02:19lost their lives and more than 1,100 people were injured. As reporters were in the SETI
00:02:24News studio to announce the earthquake warning, the quake caused the building to violently shake.
00:02:28The many lights on the ceiling ominously swayed above the workers as they tried to keep reporting.
00:02:32Social media users flooded comment sections to applaud the anchors for remaining unfazed.
00:02:38The news anchor, showing incredible professionalism, continued her segment without stopping,
00:02:43only holding onto the wall to steady herself.
00:02:5072. Priest Push
00:02:52In 2019, popular Brazilian Catholic priest Marcelo Rossi was hosting Mass at Canção Nova's
00:02:58headquarters in Cachoeira Paulista, Sao Paulo. Approximately 50,000 people attended
00:03:02the event, which was also live streamed online. However, as Rossi delivered a sermon, an unidentified
00:03:07woman snuck past security. She managed to get on stage and pushed Rossi off it,
00:03:13all while smiling. Thankfully, the priest was okay as he continued the sermon later. The woman,
00:03:17who reportedly had mental health issues, was arrested by the police, but she wasn't charged.
00:03:21However, the incident stuck with Rossi as he began working out, earning him comparisons to the Hulk.
00:03:2671. Arrested On Air
00:03:31In 2020, CNN reporter Omar Jimenez was in Minneapolis, Minnesota to report on the protests
00:03:37about the murder of George Floyd. Yet while on the air as some officers began arresting one protester,
00:03:42they turned their attention to the film crew and ominously surrounded them. Jimenez stated that
00:03:46they'd be happy to move to another location. Whether we're pressed or not, we wanted to make sure we
00:03:50were out of the way. Yet despite the three-person crew and their security guard wearing press badges
00:03:54and clearly filming a broadcast, the cops arrested Jimenez on camera and then the others. I've never
00:03:58seen anything like this. I have never seen anything like this. Thankfully, everyone was released without
00:04:03any charges a couple of hours later. The state's governor, Tim Walls, apologized and called the cops'
00:04:07actions unacceptable. 70. Serene Branson
00:04:19On Air Struggle
00:04:20In 2011, Branson was reporting live from the Grammy Awards. Yet just as she began speaking,
00:04:24she stumbled on her words and struggled to talk coherently.
00:04:27This terrifying situation, especially for the reporter but also for those watching,
00:04:41immediately got people concerned that Branson was having a stroke on air. Thankfully, that wasn't
00:04:45the case. After Branson was immediately treated by paramedics who found her vitals were fine,
00:04:49she later saw a doctor who deemed she'd suffered a complex migraine, which can cause speech difficulties.
00:04:54I wanted to say Lady Antebellum swept the Grammys, and I could think of the words,
00:04:59but they weren't coming out properly. While it was the first time she'd experienced this issue,
00:05:04Branson recovered and was fine. And finally, they diagnosed me with migraine aura,
00:05:09which is much more serious than what people think of as a migraine.
00:05:1369. The Stephen McDaniel Interview
00:05:15In 2011, friends and family of Lauren Giddings were concerned after they hadn't heard from her in
00:05:19several days. Soon, they reported her missing from her home in Macon, Georgia, with news broadcasters
00:05:24in the area to report on the story. WGXA interviewed an apparent friend of Giddings, McDaniel.
00:05:29Lauren was my neighbor. We're just trying to find out where she is at this point.
00:05:34During it, the reporter mentioned that a body was found, which was later confirmed to be the
00:05:37remains of Giddings. McDaniel froze before sitting down to process it. He then continued the interview.
00:05:45However, it soon emerged that McDaniel had taken Giddings' life. As part of a plea deal to avoid capital
00:05:50punishment, he pleaded guilty to her murder. McDaniel was sentenced to life imprisonment in 2014.
00:05:55I will someday forget your face, Stephen McDaniel. In my eyes, you are the devil.
00:06:0268. Gary Plachey's Revenge
00:06:05From 1983 to 1984, karate instructor Jeffrey Doucet had been harming young Jodie Plachey,
00:06:11culminating in the adult briefly kidnapping him.
00:06:13In addition to his shaken, absent demeanor, Jodie looked physically different.
00:06:17Upon his arrest, Doucet was flown from California to Baton Rouge Metropolitan Airport in Louisiana.
00:06:22The news channel WBRZ was there to film his arrival. However, one employee also told Jodie's
00:06:28father, Gary Plachey. As Doucet was escorted through the building, Plachey, in disguise and
00:06:32talking on a payphone, walked over to Doucet and fatally shot him.
00:06:35TV cameras were recording when Plachey opened fire.
00:06:39Plachey, who later stated he had no regrets about what he did, took a plea deal that earned him a
00:06:43seven years suspended sentence, five years probation and over 300 hours of community service.
00:06:4867. The Mysterious Missing Joanna Lopez
00:06:51In 1989, those tuning in to watch the WMAQ broadcast were in for an unsettling time.
00:06:57After the segment with the national anthem ended, the color video suddenly switched to
00:07:01a black and white missing poster for Joanna Lopez.
00:07:13With a hard-to-see grainy photo and no other information, Lopez was impossible to identify.
00:07:18Two years later, the same poster appeared on WMAQ again with no additional context.
00:07:23Unless anyone could think of a new reason as to why it would be done deliberately, I think we can all
00:07:27agree that the 1991 broadcast was a mistake. Of which I must admit, I do understand the sentiment,
00:07:34but this theory kind of brushes over the fact that the second broadcast could be made because
00:07:39Joanna Lopez was missing once again.
00:07:41The phone number provided was seemingly connected to the police in Chicago, Illinois. However,
00:07:45they apparently never answered when called. According to missing persons records, there is no
00:07:49active case for Lopez, adding further intrigue in what this was about and sparking theories.
00:07:54Number 66, DeMar Hamlin's collapse. In 2023, NFL fans watched Monday Night Football eagerly as the
00:08:00Buffalo Bills took on the Bengals in Cincinnati. As had happened many, many times between players,
00:08:05Tee Higgins ran into Hamlin's chest during the tackle.
00:08:08And now another Bills player is down.
00:08:10However, this time the aftermath was different. After Hamlin got to his feet, he then collapsed as
00:08:15his heart stopped. Within seconds, medical teams arrived and began performing CPR on the safety.
00:08:20Well, you can see that the ambulance is out there on the field and they are
00:08:24intensely working on DeMar Hamlin. Thankfully, their efforts were successful as Hamlin's heart
00:08:29was restarted on the pitch before he was rushed to the hospital. He'd suffered a rare commotio
00:08:33cordis where the heartbeat was interrupted when Higgins made contact with Hamlin's chest.
00:08:37Because the medics worked on him as quickly as they did, they saved Hamlin's life.
00:08:41I'm advocating through the nation of lifesavers for everyone to learn CPR and know the direct steps.
00:08:46Number 65. Footballers Near Fatal Fall Delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic,
00:08:50football fans were excited to see the 2020 Euros take place in 2021. Denmark faced Finland in their
00:08:56opening group game. Shortly before halftime, a throw-in for Denmark arrived at Christian Eriksen.
00:09:00However, instead of his typical talent controlling the ball, it bounced off his leg as he collapsed
00:09:04on the floor. Immediately, everyone knew something was seriously wrong.
00:09:08The concern here for Christian Eriksen is tangible.
00:09:11His captain, Simon Schad, put Eriksen in the recovery position before the medics arrived.
00:09:15Teammates then set up a wall to block sight of them working on the midfielder who had had a heart
00:09:19attack. Thankfully, his pulse was restarted and Eriksen went to the hospital, where an internal
00:09:23defibrillator was installed. Yeah, what should I say? He was gone and we did cardiac resuscitation
00:09:33and there was cardiac arrest. Amazingly, he returned to football in 2022.
00:09:37Luckily, the doctors and the people, the paramedics and the people around and my teammates at the time,
00:09:43I reacted quickly and got me back. And at the same time, I was lucky that nothing serious
00:09:50it happened. Number 64, JetBlue Flight 292's emergency landing.
00:09:55In 2005, after departing Hollywood Burbank Airport in California, passengers were ready to relax until
00:10:00landing in New York's John F. Kennedy International Airport. However, shortly after takeoff, the landing
00:10:05gear wouldn't retract. You can see right there, the nose gear on this plane is turned sideways.
00:10:09It was then decided that the plane would do an emergency landing at Los Angeles International
00:10:13Airport. However, to reduce the risk of fire, the aircraft had to fly for more than two hours
00:10:17to use up fuel. During this time, the incident was being covered by news channels. All these pilots and
00:10:22the co-pilots, the flight crew, they plan for each of these contingencies, all kinds of emergency
00:10:25landings year round. Passengers on board could also watch the broadcasts, which sounds terrifying.
00:10:30When the time came to land, the pilots did an incredible job as the landing gear sparked a
00:10:34minor fire. All 146 on board survived the nerve-wracking experience.
00:10:39One thing everybody, airport officials, emergency evacuation people, what they all seem to agree on
00:10:46is that pilot Scott Berg did a fabulous job of landing that plane safely.
00:10:51Number 63, The Murder of Maritza Martin. In 1993, Emilio Nunez was accompanied by a film
00:10:56crew from Ocorio Asi as he visited his teenage daughter's grave in North Lauderdale, Florida.
00:11:07A few months ago, she'd taken her life after it was discovered she was pregnant.
00:11:10Nunez believed her stepfather and mother, Maritza Martin, were responsible for her death.
00:11:14During filming, Martin arrived, causing the crew to try to interview her. To begin with,
00:11:18she was reluctant to talk. However, after some persuasion, Martin exited the car and spoke to the
00:11:23crew briefly on camera. However, Nunez suddenly appeared behind them and fatally shot Martin
00:11:27several times as the crew fled.
00:11:33In 2000, Nunez was sentenced to life imprisonment.
00:11:36Number 62, Owen Hart's last performance. A member of a legendary wrestling family,
00:11:41Hart was one of the greatest of all time. By 1999 at Over the Edge, using the blue blazer gimmick,
00:11:45he was set to face The Godfather for the Intercontinental Championship.
00:11:49The Godfather, my arch-nemesis. He represents everything that's wrong with the WWF.
00:11:55After showing a pre-taped interview, we should have seen Owen in the ring.
00:11:58Instead, commentator Jim Ross informed those watching at home that there had been an accident.
00:12:02This is not a part of the entertainment here tonight.
00:12:06As Owen was coming down from the rafters on a harness, the mechanism released early, causing the
00:12:10wrestler to fall 78 feet and onto the top rope. While medics did their best, Ross announced later
00:12:16that Owen sadly passed away. Controversially, the show continued, giving everyone watching an eerie
00:12:21feeling.
00:12:21He said, I'm so sorry, but your husband has died. And then I just, you know, I just doubled over and
00:12:29I just screamed.
00:12:30Number 61, Dale Earnhardt's fatal crash. For nearly three decades, Earnhardt had been astonishing NASCAR
00:12:36fans with his driving skills, becoming a legend of the sport.
00:12:38I don't claim to be the best. I like to win, and we've really been fortunate. We've accomplished a lot
00:12:44in racing.
00:12:45In 2001, racing enthusiasts tuned in to watch him compete in his iconic number three car at the
00:12:50Daytona 500. However, during the final lap, Sterling Martin's car knocked Earnhardt's, causing him to
00:12:55collide with Ken Schrader's vehicle as he slammed into the retaining wall. His son, Dale Earnhardt Jr.
00:13:00came second in the race. Sadly, the force of the impact resulted in Earnhardt passing away instantly.
00:13:05There was this young doctor and some nurses up against the wall with their heads down,
00:13:10and I just stepped in real close to the doctor, and I never even said anything. And he just looked
00:13:15at me and he said, we're about to move the body. Marlin was found not responsible during the
00:13:21investigation as well as by Earnhardt Jr. Whoever's got a problem with Sterling or thinks Sterling has
00:13:26some role in this needs to get rid of that notion altogether.
00:13:30Number 60, Challenger spacecraft explosion. With the mission of deploying a communications
00:13:35satellite and examining Halley's comet, Space Shuttle Challenger was set to take off in 1986.
00:13:40Space Shuttle Challenger is just a few seconds away from blasting off from the Kennedy Space
00:13:44Center near Cape Canaveral, Florida. What grabbed the media's attention the most was that the mission
00:13:48was the teacher in space program, sending school teacher Krista McAuliffe as a payload specialist.
00:13:53I don't know what put me over the top, and I'm delighted to be here.
00:13:56As such, many news channels were broadcasting the takeoff for this exciting NASA mission live.
00:14:00Viewers were excited as the shuttle flew towards the stars, yet after just over a minute,
00:14:05that quickly turned into horror. The O-ring seals on one of the boosters were breached,
00:14:09causing the Challenger to break apart and explode, resulting in the tragic loss of
00:14:13all seven crew members.
00:14:14The crew of the Space Shuttle Challenger honored us for the manner in which they lived their lives.
00:14:19We will never forget them, nor the last time we saw them, this morning, as they prepared for
00:14:25their journey and waved goodbye, and slipped the surly bonds of Earth to touch the face of God.
00:14:33Number 59, Lee Harvey Oswald's assassination. In 1963, the landscape of American politics was forever
00:14:39changed when Oswald assassinated President John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas.
00:14:43President Kennedy died at 1 p.m. Central Standard Time.
00:14:49Within hours, the former Marine was arrested at a nearby theater. A couple of days later,
00:14:53with knowledge that Oswald was being transferred from the police headquarters to a county jail,
00:14:57news channels, including NBC, were there to record the event. However, as Oswald was taken
00:15:01outside by an escort and towards a vehicle, nightclub owner Jack Ruby broke away from the crowd and shot
00:15:06Oswald.
00:15:15Hours later, Oswald passed away in the hospital. Ruby was sentenced to death. However, that was
00:15:19overturned after an appeal. Before the retrial could begin, he passed away in 1967.
00:15:24Number 58, the 2018 Hawaii False Missile Alert. During the morning of January 13, 2018, many people
00:15:30in Hawaii were watching weekend TV and trying to relax. Yet, instead of watching their content comfortably,
00:15:35a terrifying message appeared on screen that a missile was heading for the U.S. state,
00:15:39and they needed to get to shelter immediately.
00:15:46Others also saw the statement come up on their cell phones. Because of tensions with North Korea,
00:15:50it was believed by Hawaiian residents that the country had launched a nuclear attack. However,
00:15:54the emergency broadcast had been sent in error during a drill.
00:15:56About 40 minutes later, Hawaii's Emergency Management Agency announced it was all an accident.
00:16:01Officials soon released statements stating it was a false broadcast, but the fear and panic
00:16:05of many residents were very real. For at least a month, I was just like
00:16:11preparing, waiting for something similar to occur. I didn't feel any safer because it wasn't true.
00:16:19We're not as safe as we think we are.
00:16:22Number 57, Daniel Jones' Final Protest. In 1998, Jones received the worst news possible. Not only was he
00:16:28diagnosed with cancer, but he was also HIV-positive. After struggling with his medical insurance
00:16:33provider, who he had felt mistreated him and caused delays to treatment, he was at the end of his
00:16:37tether. Jones got into his car with his dog and drove into the highway in Los Angeles, California.
00:16:41The truth is, no one was sure what he was going to do next. He pointed a firearm at bystanders until
00:16:47the police arrived, along with news helicopters, which broadcast the event live on TV.
00:16:51It's now about a quarter till four. The standoff is seconds away from coming to an end.
00:16:55After showcasing a banner against HMOs, Jones set his car ablaze before taking his life on camera.
00:17:00The news channels that broadcast the harrowing event were heavily criticized for doing so.
00:17:04I don't think it is journalism. As a matter of fact, it's quite the opposite. It really turns
00:17:09the traditional journalist into nothing more than an observer and a narrator.
00:17:14Number 56, Murders of Allison Parker and Adam Ward. In 2015, WDBG news reporter Parker and photojournalist
00:17:21Ward were in Moneta, Virginia, to interview on live TV the executive director of the local
00:17:25Chamber of Commerce, Vicki Gardner, about local anniversary events.
00:17:28The entire incident unfolded live on the air.
00:17:31However, during this piece, multiple shots suddenly rang out, causing Ward to drop the camera
00:17:36as the feed cut back to the studio. Former reporter Vester Lee Flanagan II, known professionally as
00:17:41Bryce Williams, had been fired by WDBG in 2013. With resentment against the company as well as for
00:17:47Parker and Ward, Flanagan took their lives and injured Gardner. After being pursued by police,
00:17:53Flanagan took his own life. Our hearts are broken.
00:17:56Number 55, The Second Airplane. On September 11, 2001, the world watched in horror at the aftermath
00:18:02of American Airlines Flight 11, crashing into the North Tower of New York City's World Trade Center.
00:18:06We want to go live right now and show you a picture of the World Trade Center. As news channels showcased
00:18:12the devastation and people were figuring out if the disaster was deliberate or not, they soon got
00:18:16their answer. Less than 20 minutes after the first plane had crashed, footage of United Airlines Flight
00:18:20175 was shown across the globe as it flew into the South Tower. This was a coordinated attack by
00:18:25extremists who hijacked four airplanes to cause maximum destruction in the US.
00:18:29They are desperately worried about more buildings collapsing, so they're proceeding very gingerly.
00:18:352,996 were directly killed in the attacks with thousands more suffering injuries.
00:18:39Terrorist attacks can shake the foundations of our biggest buildings,
00:18:43but they cannot touch the foundation of America. These acts shatter steel,
00:18:50but they cannot dent the steel of American resolve.
00:18:53Number 54, Tommy Cooper's Last Performance. For four decades, Cooper had delighted audiences
00:18:58across the UK with his comedy and illusions. In 1984, the Welsh comedian was taking part in the
00:19:03variety show Live From Her Majesty's, which was broadcast live.
00:19:06An Irish bowling ball. During his set, Cooper was draped in a robe with the aid of his assistant.
00:19:13However, he then slumped against the curtain. The audience, believing this to be a joke,
00:19:21continued laughing. It then dawned on them and the production crew that something was seriously wrong
00:19:25as the program cut to a commercial break. While the show continued, Cooper received medical treatment
00:19:29and was then taken to a hospital. However, he sadly passed away from a heart attack.
00:19:33Number 53, The Hillsborough Disaster. In 1989, football fans tuned into the TV to watch the
00:19:39FA Cup semi-final match between Liverpool and Nottingham Forest at Hillsborough Stadium in Sheffield,
00:19:44England. The game started normally, but then it soon became evident that something was very
00:19:49wrong as fans began climbing the fence and spilling onto the pitch, causing the match to be abandoned.
00:19:54Severe overcrowding in the standing pens caused a mass crush. 97 people perished from the disaster and
00:20:00over 760 were injured. The police and media quickly blamed Liverpool fans, which was found to be false.
00:20:13In 2016, after the first inquest's results were disputed, the second one concluded the police,
00:20:18ambulance services, and stadium design were at fault for the catastrophe.
00:20:22Number 52, Man jumps into Niagara Falls. In 1985, Buffalo, New York news broadcaster, WGRZ,
00:20:28sent reporter Phil Kavitz and a camera operator to Niagara Falls to record a segment.
00:20:33Factories, hotels, and other buildings line the river.
00:20:35Yet, as they filmed behind Kavitz, a man is seen walking into the water and is soon swept away by
00:20:40the current. The man, later stated to be Robert Ahrens, was taken over the fall. Sadly, he didn't
00:20:45survive. While the segment wasn't live, WGRZ showed the footage during their live news broadcasts
00:20:50multiple times. Emergency phones connected to a crisis program were installed near Niagara Falls in
00:20:55the aftermath of this, as well as other similar incidents to offer support to people struggling.
00:20:59Number 51, Christine Chubbuck. When viewers tuned in to watch Chubbuck hosting WXLT's Suncoast Digest,
00:21:05a show that highlighted community activities in Sarasota, Florida, they likely assumed she was
00:21:09perfectly content.
00:21:10Dr. Miller, along the same line, do you think as a member of the public hospital board you can
00:21:16address yourself to this question?
00:21:19But unfortunately, she'd been struggling with her mental health for years. In 1974, Chubbuck opened the show
00:21:24differently by reading a newscast before covering national news pieces and a local violent crime.
00:21:28After technical issues with showing footage, the host chastised the broadcaster for focusing
00:21:32on violence before declaring that WXLT would now show an exclusive as she took her own life on camera.
00:21:38The woman, Christine Chubbuck, was taken to the hospital in critical condition.
00:21:42The station quickly cut to a public service announcement as viewers called in to check if
00:21:46it was real, which sadly it was.
00:21:52Number 50, Strange Individual at Congressional Hearing.
00:21:55And what I'm about to tell you sounds like it's out of some fiction spy thriller.
00:22:02In February 2023, Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley testified before the House Judiciary Subcommittee
00:22:07about alleged abuse of federal authority. But for most viewers at home, Grassley's words were
00:22:11eclipsed by the eerie presence of a man sitting right behind him. Throughout the 15-minute statement,
00:22:16this bespectacled figure stared right at the camera with an unsettlingly blank expression.
00:22:21He hardly moved and, even more unnervingly, barely blinked, only occasionally closing one
00:22:25eye in a slow, deliberate manner. Many have speculated that he might be Grassley's aide,
00:22:29but even that has not been confirmed. This strange individual's chilling stare was enough to give
00:22:33anyone the creeps. The point being, there was no real purpose for another briefing,
00:22:38let alone a member level. Number 49, TV Presenters Spooked by Poltergeist.
00:22:47In October 2016, popular Mexican clairvoyant Moni Vidente appeared on the TV program Sale El Sol
00:22:54to discuss the weather, but her presence seemed to serve something unsettling in the room. Just as
00:22:58Vidente began talking about the existence of angels, a piece of the set mysteriously broke away
00:23:03and crashed to the floor right behind her. This left another set piece spinning in place,
00:23:07a sight that sent chills through one of the startled presenters on the panel. After this
00:23:11clip went viral, Vidente took to social media to state that she had felt the presence of a
00:23:15powerful spirit in the room, which some believe may have been behind the eerie disturbance.
00:23:20These souls, who for whatever reason are not at rest, are also not aware that they have passed on.
00:23:29Number 48, Ghost Sighting During Cemetery Tour.
00:23:32As you can see behind me here, we have a few gravestones, but what you can't see because it's
00:23:37dark out. When you wander through a cemetery, you might find more than what you bargained for.
00:23:41Just ask WNYT reporter Sam Hessler. In 2021, during Halloween season, Hessler and her camera crew
00:23:47visited Green Ridge Cemetery in Saratoga Springs, New York, to cover their spooky twilight tours. While she
00:23:52reported in front of the camera, it appears one of the cemetery's residents was keeping an eye on things.
00:23:57Far in the background, viewers pointed out what looked like a ghostly figure floating
00:24:00across the graveyard. This chilling sight was only noticed after the footage made it on air.
00:24:04Perhaps it's wise to steer clear of cemeteries if you want to avoid encountering restless spirits.
00:24:09Number 47, News Anchor Suffer Stroke On Air.
00:24:12The Tulsa Air Response Space Museum is hosting a launch today.
00:24:19Sometimes the most unsettling moments have nothing to do with the supernatural.
00:24:22Case in point, this eerie clip from a 2022 news report.
00:24:25Oklahoma anchor Julie Chin was delivering a story on NASA's Artemis launch when suddenly,
00:24:30she began struggling to speak. Despite the teleprompter guiding her, Chin was unable to
00:24:34articulate the report. Instead, she presented a disturbing sight that left viewers at home
00:24:38deeply concerned. It turned out Chin was experiencing the onset of a stroke live on air.
00:24:42Her colleagues called 911 after recognizing the emergency, and she was rushed to the hospital.
00:24:47Thankfully, she recovered swiftly, but this incident is a stark reminder of how quickly
00:24:51things can go terrifyingly wrong.
00:24:58Number 46, Japanese Tsunami Ghosts When night falls and the light has vanished,
00:25:06there are ghosts wandering around this area. In March 2011, Japan was gripped by one of the most
00:25:11horrific natural disasters in human history. A powerful earthquake rocked the sea floor, triggering a
00:25:16tsunami that claimed nearly 20,000 lives and inflicted over $300 billion in damages.
00:25:22Amid the devastation, news cameras captured some strange images in the water. White ghostly figures
00:25:27appeared to leap from the waves, landing on nearby buildings or simply vanishing into thin air.
00:25:31These spectral sightings didn't end there. In the years following the disaster,
00:25:35many survivors reported seeing the restless spirits of the victims roaming the streets and,
00:25:40in some cases, hailing down cabs. Could these be actual ghosts or mere manifestations of grief?
00:25:44The answer remains unknown.
00:25:46And another 3,000 people whose bodies have not been found continue to haunt some of the survivors.
00:25:51Number 45, twin sisters run into oncoming traffic.
00:25:5540-year-old identical twins from Sweden wandered out onto one of Britain's busiest motorways.
00:26:00In May 2008, passers-by on the M6 motorway in England called highway police after spotting twin
00:26:06sisters, Ursula and Sabrina Erickson, recklessly darting into traffic. A documentary crew for the
00:26:11BBC series Motorway Cops happened to be with the police and their cameras captured the bizarre
00:26:15events that followed. While talking with the officers, the sisters suddenly broke free,
00:26:19running into oncoming traffic and sustaining severe injuries. Even after regaining consciousness,
00:26:24Sabrina attacked an officer and attempted to run back onto the highway before being restrained.
00:26:29Just days later, Sabrina ended the life of an innocent man who offered her a place to stay out of pity.
00:26:34It's believed that both sisters suffered from a form of shared psychosis.
00:26:37What would possibly compel anyone to do this?
00:26:41Number 44, ABC Australia accidentally broadcasts disturbing ritual.
00:26:45State government announced the proposed legislation today.
00:26:48It's in part due to the stabbing of a police dog during an arrest in Brisbane last year.
00:26:56Audiences who tuned into ABC News Australia in August 2021 were in for a spine-chilling surprise.
00:27:02During a segment by anchor Ivani Young on proposed animal legislation, the feed abruptly cut to an
00:27:07unsettling scene. Three figures wearing black robes stood in a dimly lit red room, with one of
00:27:12them ominously uttering the words, Hail Satan. The eerie snippet quickly spread across social media,
00:27:17sparking wild speculations of a calculated move by ABC. However, Young later clarified that it was an
00:27:23accidental glitch, showing footage from an earlier segment discussing a push for Satanism in Australian
00:27:28schools. Talk about an unexpected brush with the underworld.
00:27:31A small group of religious rebels plan to do the devil's work inside classrooms.
00:27:36The Noosa Temple of Satan wants its religion taught in schools.
00:27:40Number 43, Pope Francis vanishes.
00:27:42And then watch this right here, coming up right after this.
00:27:46You've heard of religious miracles like turning water into wine or parting the Red Sea.
00:27:50But have you ever imagined the Pope vanishing into thin air?
00:27:53One social media user claimed to witness just that during a live broadcast from the Vatican City.
00:27:57In the eerie footage, Pope Francis is seen addressing the crowd from his balcony.
00:28:01But as he turns to retreat inside, he simply disappears into nothingness.
00:28:05It's a spooky sight that left the individual who posted the video understandably alarmed.
00:28:09The clip ignited a flurry of conspiracy theories. Is the Pope a hologram? Was he being shielded
00:28:13from some unseen danger? Maybe. But the true explanation may be as simple as an editing glitch.
00:28:17A magic trick didn't go quite as planned on live TV in Poland.
00:28:31Magic tricks are dazzling to behold, but they can sometimes be a nightmare for participants.
00:28:36Just ask Polish TV presenter Marzena Rogalska.
00:28:38In 2016, magician Marcin Polonewicz joined Rogalska on her morning show, Question for Breakfast,
00:28:44and invited her to try the nail-in-a-bag trick.
00:28:46After smashing his own hand on an empty bag, Polonewicz guided Rogalska's hand to another
00:28:51bag and slammed it down hard. To their horror, this bag held the hidden nail. You only need to
00:28:55hear Rogalska's cries of agony to know just how terrifying a moment it was for her.
00:28:59Fortunately, Rogalska was fine. Thankfully, she emerged with only superficial
00:29:02wounds and was able to forgive Polonewicz for the incident.
00:29:04That the internet was destroyed, and that you seriously hate the man who didn't want this.
00:29:13Number 41. TV reporter nearly struck by lightning.
00:29:19Being a TV journalist can sometimes be life-threatening. Reporters often find
00:29:23themselves in the midst of danger when covering harsh weather, natural disasters, and conflict
00:29:27situations. Matt Rodewald of Fox 10 in Arizona experienced such terror firsthand. While reporting
00:29:32on a monsoon storm in Phoenix, a lightning bolt struck the ground just across the street from him.
00:29:37A few feet closer, and it easily could have harmed him and his camera crew. Despite this
00:29:41hair-raising encounter, Rodewald returned to his post and finished the live report. When the clip
00:29:45surfaced online, viewers were genuinely terrified for Rodewald, and voiced their anger at the network
00:29:49for sending him out during such a major storm.
00:29:58Number 40. Rubsy's Paranormal Livestream. This eerie encounter looks like something
00:30:02straight out of a horror movie. YouTuber Rubsy was reportedly pet-setting at a friend's house
00:30:06when his livestream audience noticed something strange. At first, it appeared that the door
00:30:09behind him was opening unaided. Sure, that could be attributed to a faulty hinge, but when it suddenly
00:30:13slammed shut all by itself, it became apparent that something spooky was going on. From there,
00:30:18things devolved into a horror fest. Lights going on and off, objects moving about seemingly on their
00:30:23own. There's enough happening to make just about anyone lose their mind. But surprisingly,
00:30:27Rubsy maintains his composure throughout the ordeal, adding an even more unsettling layer
00:30:31to the unfolding situation.
00:30:42Number 39. 2002 Falun Gong Hijackings. The spiritual movement Falun Gong gained notoriety
00:30:48in China after they were branded a heretical organization by the government in 1999.
00:30:52By the end of the 1990s, he had tens of millions of followers in China.
00:30:58The communist leadership saw that as a threat to its own grip on power and banned the movement.
00:31:04After years of physical protests and arrests, the group took their descent to the airwaves.
00:31:08In 2002, they hijacked state TV broadcasts, airing a film accusing the Chinese Communist Party of
00:31:13oppression. The film also claimed that the government staged certain events to give the
00:31:16group a bad image. Such anti-government messages are far from the norm in China,
00:31:20so they understandably left a lot of viewers stunned.
00:31:22The duration of these interruptions varies depending on who you ask, but they occurred
00:31:36multiple times throughout 2002, even once cutting off the FIFA World Cup Finals.
00:31:40Number 38. A Nearly Fatal Collision. News reporting can be a dangerous job,
00:31:44though seldom is it so unexpected as this case. KTVU correspondent Alex Savage was covering an
00:31:50unrelated incident alongside a San Francisco highway when an out-of-control automobile nearly
00:31:54smashed into him. As he leapt out of the way, the disoriented camera tilted and eerily settled
00:32:06on one of the tire's loose hubcaps. If that image of the crash's aftermath wasn't chilling enough,
00:32:10Savage's later reflections on the moment might be.
00:32:13He commented that his choice to go right instead of left was split second. The footage is a hair-raising
00:32:27reminder that the forces threatening our mortality are often only moments away. Just listen to Savage's
00:32:32shaking voice just moments afterward and you might be robbed of peaceful sleep.
00:32:36Number 37. Wendy Williams passes out. This moment might hug the line between scary and creepy, but it's
00:32:41disturbing in either case. During what was supposed to be a fun Halloween-themed intro,
00:32:45veteran TV personality Wendy Williams suddenly lost control of her motor functions.
00:32:50She stumbled backwards in wide-eyed horror, inexplicably dropping to the floor.
00:33:05Williams later explained that dehydration and a sudden rise in body temperature caused the incident,
00:33:09and she was able to recover before the broadcast was even over.
00:33:12That was not a stunt. I'm overheated in my costume and I did pass out,
00:33:17but you know what? I'm a champ and I'm back.
00:33:20Though the incident was ultimately minor, the host definitely didn't know that at the time,
00:33:24and we can see that frightened uncertainty in her expression. And if you watch the clip
00:33:27without context, she almost looks possessed. Initial creepiness aside, we agree with Wendy's
00:33:32self-assessment of herself as a champ.
00:33:34Kevin said, you know, baby, I know you can do it. Go back out there and show them what you made of,
00:33:40close out the show. I said I know, right?
00:33:4336. Ventriloquist Senate Candidate In 2012, Republican hopeful Barry Hinckley challenged
00:33:48Democratic incumbent Sheldon Whitehouse for the Rhode Island Senate seat. During his campaign,
00:33:52Hinckley released an adorable ad featuring his young son Hudson that grabbed everyone's attention.
00:33:57However, when they both appeared for a follow-up interview on Fox News,
00:34:00many were unsettled by what they saw. When host Neil Cavuto questions Hudson about the ad,
00:34:04Hinckley strangely mouths the exact words the boy says.
00:34:07What are your friends saying when they see you on TV?
00:34:10Um, I don't know right now.
00:34:13Did you notice the dad's lips moving? Sort of like a bad ventriloquist?
00:34:18If we didn't know any better, we'd think the Senate candidate and his son were just a bad
00:34:21ventriloquist act looking for some airtime. The interview unsurprisingly left a bad taste in
00:34:26people's mouths, which may have contributed to Hinckley's eventual loss at the polls.
00:34:30Why were you mouthing the words that he said?
00:34:32Well, I'm not sure. You know, I was focused, you know,
00:34:35obviously we were both a bit nervous because of the first time we did national TV.
00:34:3835. Mysteriously moving glass of water
00:34:41The Primera Edición breakfast show in Honduras had their own fair share of a spooky
00:34:45occurrence during a live taping in 2015. While presenting the morning news,
00:34:48host Carlos Molina notices his glass of water move on its own.
00:34:51He's taken aback, naturally, and calls the attention of his co-host Pablo Zapata to it.
00:35:02Molina described feeling a chilling sensation just seconds before observing the self-sliding glass,
00:35:06attributing it to a paranormal experience.
00:35:08But no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no, no.
00:35:13Viewers were a bit more skeptical, however, speculating that it was likely a prank on the
00:35:17hosts by their co-workers. This notion has since been dismissed by Molina, who countered that when
00:35:21he tried to move the glass afterwards, it remained stuck to the table.
00:35:2434. Blue Light in New York City
00:35:26Aliens, UFOs, the apocalypse – those were some of the thoughts on the minds of New Yorkers when
00:35:31a bright blue light engulfed the sky in December 2018. Many who were indoors witnessed the eerie
00:35:35lights being broadcast on the news, as they pretty much turned nighttime to day.
00:35:39Overnight, the New York City sky lit up in a supernatural shade of blue.
00:35:44Oh my god.
00:35:45What is that?
00:35:46That looks gnarly.
00:35:48Look at the sky.
00:35:49Well, that doesn't look good.
00:35:51Sparking alarm citywide.
00:35:53To further complicate matters, some residents saw the lights in their homes flicker and
00:35:56the LaGuardia Airport experienced a total blackout. Fortunately, this one wasn't the work of any
00:36:00extraterrestrial force. Instead, the blue light was caused by an explosion at a power plant in Queens,
00:36:05which would explain the outages residents experienced.
00:36:08The explosion and fire knocking out power in the area and wreaking havoc at LaGuardia Airport.
00:36:13Guess the aliens decided to take a rain check on their invasion plans.
00:36:1633. UFO Flashes Intense Bright Light
00:36:20In February 2020, a crowd of over 200 people gathered for a UFO sighting at Yaya Beach in Peru,
00:36:25which has been described as a hotspot for the strange objects. The event was covered by
00:36:29Capitol TV and broadcast live to thousands of viewers. At one point, some people in the audience
00:36:34noticed an unexplained light hovering above the sea. They pointed their laser pens at the mysterious
00:36:38object, only to be hit by an intense bright light in response. As the program was filmed late in the
00:36:42night, it's not quite clear what the light source could be. A boat? A drone? A UFO? We'll leave
00:36:46that for you to decide.
00:36:4732. Spanish Reporter With Reptilian Eyes
00:36:50This unsettling footage was captured by a viewer who was watching the Spanish news channel
00:36:55Televisión Español Internacional. Towards the end of the piece, the reporter blinks repeatedly and
00:36:59for a brief moment, a second set of eyeballs appears over his closed eyelids.
00:37:03I'm looking at this reporter and I notice something about his eyes at the very last minute.
00:37:07According to the viewer, this was possible proof of the reporter being an anthropomorphic reptile
00:37:12camouflaging among humans. The actual explanation, however, may be a lot less fantastic. Some
00:37:16internet users speculated that the reporter may have been wearing contact lenses, which made him
00:37:20blink often. There it is, the blink. I'm gonna do it in slow-mo now. There we go.
00:37:29That, combined with the camera compression glitch likely resulted in the reptilian effect.
00:37:33Either way, the appearance is sure to give anyone watching the creeps.
00:37:3631. Paranormal Newspapers These days, it seems poltergeists and
00:37:40breakfast shows go hand in hand. Yet another alleged poltergeist disturbance occurred on the
00:37:44morning club show at Club FM in Tirana, Albania. At first, everything seems normal, until suddenly
00:37:48it isn't. The host, Blendi Saleh, appears to be interviewing a guest on the program when a newspaper
00:37:53on the table in front of them abruptly flies off camera. What makes this particularly disturbing is
00:37:59that the two are the only ones sitting in the booth and there aren't any doors open or windows in sight.
00:38:06So what exactly could have thrown the newspaper in the air? Understandably, Saleh and his guest are
00:38:12dumbfounded.
00:38:12Wow.
00:38:13Wow.
00:38:14Wow.
00:38:15Wow.
00:38:16Fantasm.
00:38:17And frankly, so are we.
00:38:1830. TV Solidarity
00:38:20In September 1985, Polish audiences who tuned into the popular crime show,
00:38:24Zdowserem Zgoszse, were met with strange inscriptions superimposed over the broadcast. The message read,
00:38:30Enough price increases, lies and repressions. Solidarity Torun. And it is our duty to boycott
00:38:35the election. It was later revealed that this intrusion was carried out by four astronomers
00:38:39from the University of Torun in Poland. This was done as a show of support for the Solidarity
00:38:43opposition movement, which had called for a boycott of the 1985 parliamentary elections in protest of the
00:38:48communist regime. This fight with the communist monster was really impossible. We could only fight
00:38:55against it by using its own weapons, because it pretended to be the people's system. The men were
00:39:01eventually apprehended, but due to their significant contributions to the Polish scientific community,
00:39:06they were only fined and given probation.
00:39:0729. UFO Descends on London Football Match
00:39:11In February 2019, the eighth edition of the FA Women's League Cup was underway. The second semifinals
00:39:16match saw Arsenal go up against Manchester United, with the former winning by two goals to one,
00:39:21but it seems humans weren't the only ones interested in the league. During the aforementioned match,
00:39:25one eagle-eyed fan spotted a mysterious object hovering above the stadium.
00:39:35Upon closer inspection, the viewer noticed a strange red object emitting the light. Like many
00:39:40other sightings, it's hard to tell if this was some form of spacecraft or just a drone.
00:39:49If it was indeed a bunch of aliens watching, we can only hope they at least enjoyed the game.
00:39:52Number 28. The Ghostly Groundsman In September 2016, football fans who tuned
00:39:57into Sky Sports for Sunderland's match against Everton were in for a spooky surprise.
00:40:02Here's Lukaku, on for his hat-trick, to finish it!
00:40:07While the pundits discussed the game afterwards, observant viewers picked up an enigmatic figure
00:40:11on a screen in the background, which then mysteriously vanished. The individual appeared
00:40:15to be a groundsman tidying up the stadium after the game.
00:40:18It's the fact that last season they were a bit of an unknown quantity. Nobody really set up to play
00:40:22to nullify their strengths this season. I think teams are ready for them.
00:40:25Moments later, a similar phenomenon occurred with another figure.
00:40:29Fans who spotted the ghost groundsman took to social media to voice out their perplexity.
00:40:33This could have been two phantoms caught on camera or just stock footage of the stadium
00:40:37being played on a loop. If only we knew which.
00:40:39Number 27. Flemish Secession Hoax In 2006, the Belgian TV station RTBF
00:40:44orchestrated a hoax that caused quite the stir in the French-speaking parts of the country.
00:40:48On December 16th, they interrupted a broadcast on one of their channels with an urgent announcement
00:40:52that the Flemish parliament had declared independence from Belgium. The piece appeared genuine,
00:40:56including interviews with politicians and a fake evacuation of the Belgian royal family from their
00:41:01palace. To top it all off, they showed footage of crowds cheering and waving the Flanders flag.
00:41:05The result? More than 2,000 worried people flooded the station's hotline with calls,
00:41:09and their website eventually crashed. 30 minutes later, RTBF admitted that the report was a hoax.
00:41:14Number 26. Mystery Voice Interrupts Queen Elizabeth's Funeral
00:41:17The 2022 state funeral of Queen Elizabeth II was one of the most watched TV broadcasts
00:41:22in British history. With over 26 million residents tuning in to catch the event,
00:41:26Some of London's busiest routes closed, lined with people, throwing flowers, cheering,
00:41:33taking photos. Those who watched the funeral on ITV may have picked up a mysterious voice
00:41:38as the Queen's hearse made its way to West London. For a few seconds,
00:41:41a female voice can be heard whispering about death and being trapped.
00:41:44Death is irreversible. Soon after, social media erupted with speculation about where the sound
00:41:51could have come from. One notable theory surmised that it was possibly the voice of the late Princess
00:41:55Diana. However, according to certain sources, it was simply that of a guest being picked up by the
00:41:59presenter's microphone. Number 25. The Playboy Channel Religious Message
00:42:03The last place you may expect to find the gospel is on the Playboy Channel. So we can imagine how stunned
00:42:08Playboy audiences were on Sunday, September 6, 1987, when a broadcast of the adult film Three Daughters was
00:42:13interrupted by religious texts. Listen, I'm a little flabbergasted about this whole thing.
00:42:18The message came from the Bible verses Exodus 28 and Matthew 4, 17, which warned them to repent
00:42:23and keep the Sabbath day holy. Safe to say that someone wasn't pleased with all of the unholy viewing
00:42:27going on. I know that she wants... A federal investigation later revealed that that someone
00:42:37was Thomas Haney, a technician at the Christian Broadcasting Network. Haney was found guilty of
00:42:42satellite piracy and sentenced to three years probation. Number 24. The Great Tantra Challenge
00:42:46In March of 2008, audiences in India bore witness to a bizarre showdown. Author and self-proclaimed
00:42:51rationalist Senal Itamaraku dared the Tantric guru, Surinder Sharma, to kill him live on television.
00:42:57Sharma had bragged during a prior panel that he could take a person's life within three minutes
00:43:01using his mystic powers. Itamaraku then decided to put him to the test, volunteering himself as tribute.
00:43:07For several hours, Sharma seemingly invoked supernatural forces to take Itamaraku's life
00:43:11to no avail. At one point, the Tantric claimed that his subjects served a more powerful god,
00:43:15to which Itamaraku reported that he was an atheist. The challenge was reportedly watched by hundreds
00:43:19of millions of viewers, all of whom witnessed Sharma's epic fail. Number 23. Captain Midnight
00:43:24For four and a half minutes on April 27th, 1986, HBO experienced a signal intrusion that was caught by
00:43:30viewers along the East Coast. While showing the 1985 film The Falcon and the Snowman, the feat abruptly cut to a blank
00:43:35screen with a strange text across it. The message appeared to have been sent by an individual named
00:43:40Captain Midnight, who didn't seem too pleased with HBO's subscription fees.
00:43:43An objection to the price HBO is charging dish owners for access to its recently scrambled programs.
00:43:49The signal got weaker then, after four minutes, the movie resumed.
00:43:52The incident was investigated by the FCC and FBI, resulting in the arrest of John R. McDougal.
00:43:57McDougal owned a satellite dish which was struggling due to the cable channel's high rates.
00:44:01His protest earned him a little infamy as well as a $5,000 fine.
00:44:05McDougal confessed to the FCC TV cops, and although the agency says his action,
00:44:10if it disrupted military or telephone communications, could be a very serious business.
00:44:15In this case, he'll get off with a $5,000 fine.
00:44:18Number 22. Samuel J. Seymour's Secret
00:44:20The CBS game show I've Got a Secret featured a panel of celebrities trying to guess a contestant's secret.
00:44:25Most of these were funny or embarrassing, but on February 9th, 1956,
00:44:2995-year-old Samuel J. Seymour strolled onto the set with a chilling account.
00:44:43After being questioned by the celebrity panel, Seymour revealed that he was reportedly
00:44:46the last surviving witness of Abraham Lincoln's assassination. Seymour claimed that at the age
00:44:51of five, he sat across from the presidential box at Ford's Theater in Washington, D.C.
00:44:55when John Wilkes Booth fired the fatal shot.
00:44:57When he saw Booth jump from the box to the stage, at which time he broke his leg,
00:45:02his only concern was not for the president, because he didn't realize the president had been shot,
00:45:08but the poor man who fell out of the balcony.
00:45:09His haunting recollection of the event brought history to life,
00:45:12and must have sent shivers down the spines of all who listened.
00:45:15Number 21. Dutch TV presenters eat each other.
00:45:18Yeah, you heard that right. In December 2011, Dennis Storm and Valerio Zeno,
00:45:22two presenters on the Dutch show Guinea Pigs took a bite into the bizarre,
00:45:25but seemingly devouring pieces of each other's flesh live on air.
00:45:28No jokes about fava beans and a nice Chianti here.
00:45:32It was undoubtedly an unsettling sight, as Storm and Zeno underwent surgical procedures
00:45:36to remove small chunks of flesh from their buttocks and abdomen respectively.
00:45:40These were then cooked by a chef in front of a live audience and presented to them.
00:45:43The brazen stunt certainly left a bad taste in many viewers' mouths.
00:45:46I ate his liver with some fava beans and a nice Chianti.
00:45:54Nevertheless, it didn't cross the legal line, as cannibalism is permitted in the Netherlands,
00:45:58provided that it is not done with malicious intent.
00:46:01Number 20. Zombie emergency alert.
00:46:04Back in 2013, a handful of Americans were tricked into thinking that Armageddon was finally at the door,
00:46:09by a prankster who seemed to have been taking notes from Orson Welles.
00:46:21The unnamed Joker found a way to hack into a Montana TV station's emergency broadcast system
00:46:27and sent out a news flash detailing the rise of the undead from their graves,
00:46:31along with a warning not to engage.
00:46:34The hoax announcement played over airings of the Steve Wilco show,
00:46:37and despite its illegitimacy, the message sounded real enough to turn a few heads,
00:46:41stirring concern among viewers across parts of the United States.
00:46:50Fortunately, it wasn't long before the truth was made known and the perpetrator was apprehended.
00:46:54Number 19. The Haunted Dolly.
00:46:57Here's one that'll rock the boat.
00:46:58On ITV's This Morning, a couple were being interviewed about alleged strange activity
00:47:03surrounding a china doll they'd gotten from a thrift store.
00:47:06You almost look like Deb, you don't want to even look at the doll.
00:47:08No, I don't.
00:47:08Are you a bit scared?
00:47:09I don't even want to touch it.
00:47:10Really?
00:47:10Yeah.
00:47:11This included scratches on the husband and sporadic fire alarm bursts.
00:47:15Whilst the hosts were rightly skeptical, viewers were more convinced.
00:47:19They observed the doll start to rock in its chair during the interview, seemingly of its own volition.
00:47:24Look at that chair's beginning to rock.
00:47:26Look at that.
00:47:27Who's doing that? Stop it.
00:47:28Who's doing that?
00:47:29The doll was on the show again just a few weeks later, but this time with a new owner.
00:47:33The lady who bought the doll in here originally,
00:47:35who bought it, she said her husband was scratched on his arms and legs.
00:47:38Yeah, she did, didn't she?
00:47:39So do you believe that this doll has done that?
00:47:42Ah, yes I do.
00:47:43Because I've been scratched over the past week or eight days that I've had the doll.
00:47:47Where?
00:47:48On my arm.
00:47:49It's no surprise the toy changed hands so quickly.
00:47:52We've all seen enough movies to know that keeping possessed dolls around is a big no-no.
00:47:56Number 18.
00:47:57WrestleMania Chokeout
00:47:59It's well known that pro wrestling is a staged but nonetheless dangerous sport that can inflict some
00:48:04serious injury.
00:48:05Richard Belzer learned this when he was choked out by Hulk Hogan on his talk show in 1985.
00:48:11The Hulkster, who was on the show with Mr. T promoting the very first WrestleMania, was asked by
00:48:16Belzer to demonstrate some wrestling moves in keeping with the promotion.
00:48:20Hogan responded with a headlock that sent him straight to sleep.
00:48:23Mr. T quickly tried to ease the shocked crowd during Belzer's blackout with a few
00:48:27reassuring quips.
00:48:28I was a sleeper ho, he'll be alright.
00:48:31And Belzer fortunately regained consciousness along with a few stitches and one heck of an
00:48:35anecdote some moments later.
00:48:37And now, we'll be right back after this word from you-know-who.
00:48:44Number 17.
00:48:45The Vietnam War Draft Lottery
00:48:47Who wants to be a veteran?
00:48:48In 1969, at the peak of the war in Vietnam, CBS televised a draft lottery to determine
00:48:55individuals for military service and aired live from Washington's Selective Service Headquarters.
00:49:01The Draft Lottery. A live report on tonight's picking of the birthdates for the draft.
00:49:06The lottery worked by drawing birthdates at random, followed by a second drawing of letters
00:49:10of the alphabet to decide which men would be sent overseas first.
00:49:14This controversial method had not been used since 1942 during World War II.
00:49:19Though we thankfully live in a time where such a lottery is neither necessary nor permitted,
00:49:24watching this broadcast today is a chilling reminder that the futures of hundreds of men
00:49:28were decided by a simple sheet of paper that they watched pulled at random on television.
00:49:33September 14th.
00:49:38September 14-001.
00:49:44Number 16. San Francisco Earthquake News Flash
00:49:48California is no stranger to the occasional rumble,
00:49:50but the cameras happened to be rolling during a big one in 1989.
00:49:54During the World Series that saw the San Francisco Giants take out the Oakland Athletics,
00:49:59an enormous earthquake struck the Bay Area and was caught live on television.
00:50:04With a magnitude of 6.9, the Loma Prieta quake was large enough to interrupt the broadcast of the game.
00:50:10Though it can easily be misinterpreted as crowd jubilation, screams can actually be heard just before
00:50:15the game feed is cut and the picture switches to the news.
00:50:19Candy Maldonado with the hesitation, allowing Jose Canseco to score,
00:50:24and he fails to get Dave Parker at second base, so the Oakland A's take...
00:50:30Take it.
00:50:31I'll tell you what, we're having a nerve.
00:50:35Though the stadium was able to withstand the tremors, the rest of the city was subjected to major power
00:50:40disruptions, blackouts, and property damage.
00:50:43The downtown section of Santa Cruz is basically gone.
00:50:45All the old brick, unreinforced buildings have collapsed.
00:50:49This is a department store called Ford's.
00:50:51It collapsed, the second store came down into the first floor, trapping several people inside.
00:50:57Number 15. Czech TV's Panorama Prank
00:51:00What a bombshell to drop.
00:51:02In 2007, as viewers of Czech television's program Panorama were treated to a beautiful shot of the mountain,
00:51:08the tranquility was soon ruined by a blinding white light and the unmistakable sight of a mushroom cloud.
00:51:22The bombing was quickly and fortunately revealed as a hoax, masterminded by the gorilla art pranksters
00:51:27known collectively as Zatovin. The group had apparently hacked the show's live camera feed,
00:51:32where they could then overwrite the footage with a CGI render they'd prepared.
00:51:36Zatovin explained that the prank illustrated how easy it can be for the media to manipulate and
00:51:41influence its consumers with false information. The lengths some artists will go to get their work
00:51:46shown on TV.
00:51:47Number 14. The Disappearing Airport Lady
00:51:50Luggage goes missing all the time at terminals, but human beings? Not so much.
00:51:54Yet that's what appeared to happen during an interview for Danish Network's TV2 SportsCenter.
00:51:59At an airport baggage claim, just behind the gentleman on camera,
00:52:03a blonde woman seemed to vanish into thin air, as another traveler passed in front of her.
00:52:07Freaky stuff for viewers who saw it live, but a logical explanation does exist.
00:52:12The ghost lady was identified as Danish handball player Trina Jensen.
00:52:16Under close analysis, she can be assumed to have walked in tandem with the passing woman,
00:52:21creating an optical illusion. In the moment, however, it seemed like a paranormal phenomena
00:52:26right out of the X-Files.
00:52:27Number 13. Talk Show Possession
00:52:36There's certainly more to this girl than meets the eye. On a talk show in 2016,
00:52:40Thai model Tipawa Cha Phu Phuong made an appearance and claimed to have been possessed
00:52:45by an evil bloodthirsty ghost while holidaying. This entity, known as Pop, was said to hunger for
00:52:50animal blood and human flesh. The confused hosts then watched as Cha Phu Phuong began to exhibit
00:52:56strange behavior, muttering to herself and screaming. Most viewers were disturbed by her behavior,
00:53:07but not so much sold on it. Many called it suspiciously convenient that Pop took hold on live
00:53:13television. Regardless, it hardly made for comfortable viewing.
00:53:17Number 12. Prayer Phone-in Possession Cha Phu Phuong's live actions may have been uneasy to the eyes,
00:53:23but this next example of on-air possession proved to be an assault on the ears.
00:53:27We've got our first caller, inshallah ta'ala.
00:53:29As-salamu alaykum wa rahmatullah.
00:53:31Wa alaykum as-salamu wa rahmatullah wa barakatuh.
00:53:36You okay, sister?
00:53:38This religious live show encourages viewers to call in and receive advice and guidance from a holy sheik.
00:53:43One such phone call was made by a woman in 2011, claiming to have been overtaken by a demonic
00:53:49entity known colloquially as a jinn.
00:53:51Also, um, um, also, um,
00:54:05The woman then supposedly underwent a sudden change in personality while staying on the line,
00:54:10laughing sinisterly as she mocked the Islamic host.
00:54:17The sheik proceeded to banish the demon with an impromptu exorcism,
00:54:20and the bizarre episode was done. Whether it was fake or genuine, it was certainly creepy.
00:54:25Number 11. Los Angeles EBS
00:54:271992 was the year Los Angeles descended into chaos as riots erupted following the
00:54:33acquittal of the officers behind Rodney King's heavily publicized abuse.
00:54:37We saw what we saw, and what we saw was a crime.
00:54:41You got another white jury, uh, saying that it's okay for white cops to beat up black people,
00:54:46and that's racism, American style, and it's been that way from the get.
00:54:49King's ruthless assault at the hands of the LAPD was videotaped and broadcast a year earlier to
00:54:55massive outcry. During the riots, as angered citizens looted stores and destroyed public
00:55:01property, an emergency broadcast was sent out across all of LA County's biggest TV stations
00:55:06to inform the public of the carnage. In the message, an emergency curfew was announced
00:55:11to be in effect from 6.45 p.m. onward.
00:55:14This is the activation of the emergency broadcast system for LA County. Effective at 6.45 p.m.
00:55:21This chilling yet formal announcement heralded a rise in tension for the citizens of Los Angeles,
00:55:34as they watched the collapse of their social order unfold on screen.
00:55:38Number 10. Alien Lights Over Milwaukee
00:55:40It was only a matter of time until aliens came up. During a live Fox 6 news broadcast,
00:55:46a group of mysterious lights were seen floating above the Milwaukee night sky. The news team was
00:55:50understandably alarmed and quickly began to speculate as to the cause, with explanations
00:55:55ranging from fireworks to shooting stars and, finally, aliens. It's a strange sight at first
00:56:01glance, certainly enough to cause some confusion and maybe even a little concern, but it only took
00:56:06about a half an hour to shoot down ET expectations. An alternative angle closer to the activity shows it
00:56:18to be nothing more than a flock of seagulls reflecting the bright lights of the city. That's right,
00:56:23close encounters of the bird kind. Now that the sun's up, you can see no aliens here Milwaukee,
00:56:30just a lot of seagulls. Number 9. The Australian Mayday Incident
00:56:35While not technically a live event, these issues with broadcasting happened in real time. During the
00:56:40airing of an episode of the documentary series Mayday, the audio from a previous news broadcast
00:56:45somehow replaced some of the original show's audio. This eerie new soundtrack was a looping
00:56:50soundbite of a Halliburton truck driver reacting to his convoy being ambushed in Iraq. For six
00:56:56freaky minutes, everyone at home watching was subjected to the driver repeating,
00:57:00Jesus Christ, help us all Lord, over and over. The fact that this was coinciding with footage
00:57:15relating to a passenger train crash made a deeply unsettling end result. The creepiest part is,
00:57:20nobody knows exactly how it happened. Mayday indeed. Number 8. Jamaican Ghost Attack
00:57:26In 2010, a Jamaican news crew investigated reports of an alleged poltergeist attack on
00:57:31a young boy in Spanish town. The boy claimed he was being pestered by a poltergeist known in
00:57:36Jamaican folklore as a duppy, and that this specter was a recently deceased friend who was now haunting
00:57:41him post-mortem. The news crew were astonished during the interview when he was seemingly grabbed
00:57:50and dragged around like a rag doll, whilst onlookers desperately attempted to intervene.
00:57:55Unsettling as it seems, the case should be taken with a grain of salt. Most cases involving
00:58:00children who report being bothered by spirits are usually attributed to a neglected or traumatized
00:58:06child lashing out. Try to take him away and let me see.
00:58:11Oh, you're afraid. You're a coward. You're not doing nothing.
00:58:14All right, all right, all right.
00:58:23In this case, lashing out is putting it lightly.
00:58:26Number 7. The Running Shadow
00:58:28So, we've gone through aliens. Now how about moving shadows?
00:58:31During the broadcast of a soccer game at the Hernando Siles Stadium in 2014, cameras caught a
00:58:37glimpse of what appeared to be a moving dark figure. Although it was running at full speed,
00:58:41people in the crowd didn't seem to notice. What made this incident all the more creepy was the
00:58:45fact that the figure can be seen moving through fans and even a barrier. While some theorized that
00:58:50the figure was in fact a soccer player double exposed on camera, to this day, the cause of this
00:58:55mysterious apparition remains unknown. Number 6. The UFO Summoner
00:59:00is seeing really believing. In 2005, Ramon Watkins, a man from Las Vegas who called himself
00:59:17Yahweh, claimed to have learned from the Old Testament how to summon UFOs. In a news report
00:59:22meant to expose him as a fraud, an ABC news reporter was left baffled when Watkins proceeded to seemingly
00:59:28manifest mysterious orbs of light floating in the sky. The orange lights danced above their heads
00:59:44momentarily before disappearing. Many who saw this demonstration hailed it as evidence of the almighty,
00:59:49referring to the fact that it had been the news team who had picked the location, day, and time to
00:59:54conduct the interview, leaving practically no room for Watkins to have feasibly staged the summoning.
01:00:00Divine power or complex misdirection?
01:00:02How's that for a magic trick?
01:00:04Number 5. The Vrillon Hoax
01:00:07Across the pond in 1977, something even more bizarre occurred. The UK's Southern
01:00:12television had their evening news interrupted by a six-minute audio message of apparent extraterrestrial
01:00:17origin. The unsettling, booming voice coming through claimed to represent the Ashtar Galactic Command.
01:00:25In Australia, Mr. Perry Packard has figured it as I'll still be in line from yesterday's
01:00:29nightclub decision. It's different now than playing in Testament.
01:00:32This is the voice of the Lord, representative of the Ashtar Galactic Command, speaking to you.
01:00:42These aliens offered humanity a peaceful alliance if they renounced their corrupt ways and
01:00:47weapons of war, speaking cultishly of new ages and promises of transcendence.
01:00:52The channel apologized for the Outlander's signal intrusion, chalking it up to a hoax.
01:01:06It would indeed be strange if aliens broadcast a message to just one channel.
01:01:11Those responsible have never come forward. Dare we look up to the sky and wonder?
01:01:23Number 4. Justin from Big Brother 2
01:01:26Slimeball Justin Sebek was frequently overly confrontational with other contestants during
01:01:32his tenure on Big Brother.
01:01:40But the act that finally got him kicked off the series went way beyond typical reality show conflicts.
01:01:42Justin famously,
01:01:44And quite rightly, got evicted for disturbing behavior involving fellow housemate Christa.
01:01:50After some drinks, the two began kissing and flirting, when Justin suddenly held up a knife and
01:01:56threatened her.
01:01:57The drama didn't end there. A year after being kicked out of the house,
01:02:01Justin was arrested and charged with assaulting his girlfriend.
01:02:05To say Christa and the other housemates dodged a bullet is a massive understatement.
01:02:09You should feel real sorry for Justin, but I really don't.
01:02:12I'm sorry he did it to himself.
01:02:14You know, he got warned and warned and warned and warned.
01:02:17Number 3. A Criminal on the Dating Game
01:02:20Not quite your Mr. Right
01:02:21On a 1978 episode of The Dating Game, Bachelorette Cheryl Bradshaw chose contestant Rodney Alcala as her man.
01:02:28Well, let's see. Bachelor number 1 is a successful photographer,
01:02:31who got his start when his father found him in the dark room at the age of 13.
01:02:35Fully developed.
01:02:38Though he was a successful photographer,
01:02:40Alcala was later turned down by Bradshaw for his creepy behavior.
01:02:44Why do you say that?
01:02:45Because that's the only time there is.
01:02:47The only time? What's wrong with morning, afternoon?
01:02:50Well, they're okay, but night time is when it really gets good.
01:02:53Bradshaw may have escaped with their life.
01:02:55It turns out that Alcala was a repeated offender of serious crimes,
01:02:59including a string of killings he committed throughout the 70s,
01:03:03and his rejection on the show may have been a contributing factor in the murder of a further
01:03:07three women. Alcala is serving life in prison to this day, and his final kill count remains ambiguous.
01:03:13We're gonna have a great time together, Cheryl.
01:03:15Serial killers are tremendous actors.
01:03:17Number 2. Gary Stolman
01:03:19The lengths people will go to to make themselves heard.
01:03:22He saw us arriving, he put the gun down and said,
01:03:25I don't want to hurt anybody, and that was it.
01:03:27In the middle of a 1987 broadcast, Gary Stolman walked onto the KNBC set
01:03:33behind TV reporter David Horowitz and pointed a gun at his back,
01:03:37ordering him to read a statement concerning paranoid theories that the CIA cloned Stolman's father.
01:03:42The blindsided presenters were clearly horrified,
01:03:45but Horowitz was able to keep us cool throughout. The statement ended with the admission that the
01:03:49firearm was a BB firing replica, before Stolman calmly placed the toy on the desk,
01:03:55apparently having never intended to harm anyone.
01:03:57The gunman placed the gun on the desk, and anchorman John Beard grabbed it.
01:04:02Burbank police wrestled a man to the floor. He has been identified as Gary Stolman, and he said he
01:04:07never intended to harm anyone. Indeed, the gun proved a fake.
01:04:11This incident resulted in Horowitz spearheading a campaign to ban realistic toy firearms.

01:04:27If you're on your phone, make sure you go into your settings and switch on notifications.
01:04:311. The Max Headroom Hijack
01:04:35In 1987, two television stations in Chicago were hijacked,
01:04:39in perhaps the most surreal act of video piracy ever recorded.
01:04:43It takes some pretty significant equipment, technical equipment,
01:04:47and some knowledge of broadcast frequencies.
01:04:50Both instances featured an unidentified man, dressed as obscure TV personality Max Headroom,
01:04:56dancing to distorted audio. The second video, significantly longer,
01:05:00saw the man rambling incoherently in a distorted voice. Oh,
01:05:04and being swatted on the behind by an off-screen accomplice.
01:05:072. Your tribe. That is the only way to learn.
01:05:102. I'll get you a hot drink, miss.
01:05:113. I've taken some dry clothes, miss.
01:05:133. He's a freak, you know.
01:05:153. He's a freak, you know.
01:05:164. He's a freak, you know.
01:05:175. He's a freak, you know.
01:05:18Responses to the rubber-grinned menace
01:05:20ranged from bemused to horrified, and the perpetrators of this seemingly random act were never
01:05:25identified. The segments lasted no more than a couple of minutes, but have gone down
01:05:29as among the most notorious incidents in television history. That face is not an easy one to forget.
01:05:41What's the most unsettling thing you've seen live? Let us know below.
