00:00Shining a spotlight on alumni who have made an exceptional impact on sport and society
00:06The Leeds Beckett University Sport Hall of Fame features world-class performers and inspirational leaders
00:12It acknowledges individual achievements while celebrating the pride the university has in the people who have shaped the sporting landscape regionally, nationally and internationally
00:22Dean of the Carnegie School of Sport Peter Macrith and Olympic diver and coach Yona Knight-Wisdom are proud of their connection to the uni
00:30We're really delighted to welcome back many alumni who we're inducting into our Leeds Beckett University Sport Hall of Fame
00:39Making sure our alumni who have achieved so much over the years know how proud we are of their achievements and also how proud we are to be associated with them
00:49My time here at uni, it felt like a blur. It was three very quick years, three very intense years
00:55Also combined with my progression towards the Rio 2016 Olympic Games
01:01So there was a lot of external pressure, which was all good fun
01:05But I had a great time studying here at Leeds Beckett
01:08I was glad that I could stay in Leeds and do the course that I wanted
01:12And I'm grateful to be connected with the university
01:16I'm really excited that they're developing the Hall of Fame
01:19You know, being alongside some of the unbelievable athletes
01:23And yeah, I'm really excited to see kind of how it progresses and develops
01:28Carnegie established a really strong reputation for supporting people further their academic qualifications and their careers
01:36Alongside playing sport to a high level
01:39And so we have attracted really strong talent to the university ever since
01:45I'm a huge advocate for the sport of diving
01:47I might be biased, but I think it's one of the best sports at the Olympic Games
01:50It's normally one of the most watched sports at the Olympics
01:52I'm staying within the sport as a diving coach
01:55So I'm now based in London at the London Aquatic Centre
01:59The 2012 Olympic Pool
02:01Coaching some of the best divers in the country
02:03I think there's 21 people who've been recognised in the UK honour system
02:09And we have over 60 medals between those who are being inducted from Olympics, Commonwealth and World Championships
02:19And in addition to that, I think there's over 600 international caps amongst those people who we're recognising
02:26Across a whole range of sports
02:28And then in addition to that, we have a number of leaders and practitioners
02:32So leaders such as Tom Williams, who is the Chief Operating Officer for Parkrun
02:37And through his work, he's connected with millions of people around the world
02:41In supporting them to be more physically active
02:43So we're really excited to reaffirm how proud we are of their achievements
02:51But also then to be setting some aspirations for our current students and future students
02:57In terms of what their achievements could be in the future
