Elders Keith’s Steven Doecke and Spence Dix & Co Tintinara’s Luke Schreiber offered their thoughts on the 2025 Keith offshears sale. Video by Quinton McCallum.
00:00It was a very solid survey on the top end, saw a lot of those really top end ewes at $330 to $400, I think we're talking about $42 for the Morroway Park ewes, which obviously has been part of the fabric of this side for a long time.
00:23But yeah, a lot of good competition and competition from a wide area too.
00:28And whereabouts did those buyers come from, Stephen?
00:30Well, they were anywhere from Rainbow down to Millicent.
00:34Was there a Matralar I heard as well?
00:37So repeat buyers, annual repeat buyers.
00:40And on the back of that, the ewes that the top price ewes will get joined this afternoon.
00:46The ones that are just that $50, $40 less will probably be a month and they'll get joined and then the rest will be sort of December.
00:52So, all cheaper and good.
00:54And there wasn't a lot of breeding used in today, was that just due to seasonal factors?
00:58Yeah, it's quite a sad state of affairs really.
01:01Like we're used to having 10,000 ewes in our yards across the road here and then in the railway yards, there's normally 5,000 to 10,000 over there.
01:09But to only have about 10 pence of breeding, it just sums up what's going on out there.
01:13A lot of those ewes have been sent to the slaughter already.
01:16So, yeah, we're in for a low supply period for a few years, I think.
01:19Beautiful.
01:20Anything else you think's worth adding?
01:21Oh, and we noticed the competition there as well.
01:24A lot of guys, buyers were, like a lot of those kinds of ewes, went bidding $20 per head.
01:30They tried to start and made a reasonable buy rate and ended up over 200.
01:35So, that was good.
01:36And to the guys that didn't buy today, give us a call.
01:40But, yeah, it was not an easy day on a lower yarding.
01:44And I think, ultimately, there's not many sheep left now.
01:46That's right.
01:47So, our middle run of ewes through the Hoggetts here, they were, you know, that $250 to $320.
01:52That's pretty good buying, but also reasonable selling as well.
01:55But I think the reality is there's not going to be a heap.
01:57And if we get a season next year, it could be anything.
