00:00Talent Corporation Malaysia Berhad, the strategic think tank under the Human Resources Ministry,
00:07convened the inaugural Life at Work, Lawa Conference 2025 on Wednesday.
00:12It is a national platform that brings together leaders, employers and policy makers
00:17to drive Malaysia's next phase of progressive and people-centred workplace transformation.
00:23Themed Driving the Future of Work, Sustainable, Inclusive and Human-Centered,
00:27the conference marks Malaysia's growing commitment to embed equitable and care-friendly practices
00:33into the heart of its economic agenda.
00:35It is intended to set the tone ahead of the Life at Work Awards 2025 on 30 October,
00:43which will recognise Malaysia's most progressive employers advancing flexibility, inclusion and employee well-being.
00:49This year we received over 700 submissions from about 300 companies.
00:55So we felt that it would be a waste if neither we nor the Malaysian public could benefit from that rich experience
01:04for all these amazing companies, experiences that demonstrate how they strive to ensure,
01:13to provide or implement what I call good jobs in their respective workplace.
01:18And this is the reason why this conference was conceived as a platform for deeper engagement
01:26beyond merely just handing out awards.
01:29At the fireside chat following his keynote address,
01:32Sim highlighted his ministry's ongoing workforce policy reforms,
01:35which include amendments to the Employment Act that enable formal flexible work applications,
01:41targeted tax incentives for care-friendly workplaces,
01:44and initiatives to raise women's labour force participation.
01:47This year, we have started an exercise to review the 28th labour legislation in our country.
01:57When I say review, it means there will be some legislation that needed to be updated,
02:01to be amended, to be harmonised, or even to be abolished,
02:05because it's just too old and perhaps it's not relevant anymore.
02:08So all these values, all these principles that we are looking at can be an input towards kesuma when we review our laws.
02:18Talent Corp Chairperson Wong Shuchi described the LAWA 2025 conference as a collaborative platform between government,
02:25employers and the workforce, translating national workforce policies into real workplace action.
02:30Malaysia's workplace transformation cannot be achieved by one agency alone.
02:37It requires a community of changemakers, employers, employees and policy makers,
02:45and every one of you here, of course, each playing a role in shaping the next chapter of work.
02:51I urge all our participants, speakers and partners to use this platform to exchange ideas,
03:01share challenges, and inspire one another.
03:04The Life at Work conference and awards now serve as an annual cornerstone of Malaysia's future of work agenda,
03:11complementing policy measures that reward employers for investing in people and progressive work practices.
03:16The awards ceremony, later this month, will recognise 33 progressive employers across 13 categories.
