--------------------------------

Learning how to extrude a part face up to a surface in CATIA is an essential skill for anyone involved in 3D modeling, product design, or mechanical engineering. This feature allows designers to create highly accurate and complex geometries that match specific design requirements. Instead of extruding to a fixed distance, you can extrude precisely until your geometry meets another surface. This ensures that your part adapts to existing shapes or reference models, maintaining design intent and precision.

In professional design environments, parts often need to fit perfectly with other components or surfaces. For example, when designing a mechanical housing, extrusion up to a surface ensures that walls or ribs end exactly where they should, even if the reference surface is curved or irregular. This method eliminates guesswork and minimizes the risk of dimensional errors that could affect assembly or function.

Mastering this technique also enhances modeling efficiency. CATIA’s “Up to Surface” extrusion option automatically updates when the reference surface changes, maintaining parametric relationships. This dynamic behavior saves time in iterative design processes, as you won’t need to manually adjust the extrusion each time you modify the model. It’s a crucial step toward building smart, adaptive models that comply with modern design standards.

Furthermore, understanding this command helps you develop a deeper knowledge of CATIA’s surface-based modeling tools. Many advanced designs—especially in automotive, aerospace, and consumer product industries—require surfaces with smooth transitions and accurate contours. Being able to extrude up to a surface is foundational to mastering more advanced surfacing and solid modeling techniques.

In short, learning how to extrude a part face up to a surface in CATIA empowers you to create precise, efficient, and professional-quality designs. It’s a skill that elevates your modeling capabilities and makes your workflow more adaptable and intelligent.

00:00hey everyone on this video guys i'm going to be showing you how you can extrude a part face up to
00:06an external surface in katia okay but guys before we jump into the details do not forget to hit that
00:13subscribe button to join the soviet engineer community and without further ado let's jump
00:19into the video okay so the first thing that you need to do here is to go to the start mechanical
00:24design part design then you enable the hybrid design option in addition to the create a geometrical set
00:31then you click on okay okay next you click on the xy plan then you go to sketch under the rectangle
00:38command you go and click on the center's rectangle we're gonna add a rectangle of 100 millimeter here
00:48and i'm gonna add the same dimension here 100 millimeter okay then i'm gonna exit the workbench
00:59okay now you go and click on the pad the current in work object isn't in a body the new solid feature
01:07is created after the last feature of the part body okay which means that the new extrusion will be saved
01:14under the part body and the sketch is saved under the geometrical set then you click on okay in the
01:21length field i'm gonna change it in the length field i'm gonna change it from 20 to 30 then you
01:27click on okay now you go and click on the yz then you click on sketch next you go and click on the spline
01:35command i'm gonna go and draw a spline like this okay then i'm gonna use the constraint to add a
01:43coincidence between this point and this edge right click coincidence then i'm gonna do the same thing
01:49between this point and this edge right click then coincidence okay i'm gonna try to modify the position
01:57of this point like this then i'm gonna exit the workbench now i'm gonna go to start shape then
02:06generative shape design workbench then i'm gonna go and click on the extrude command here i'm gonna add
02:1650 millimeter and here also i'm gonna add 50 millimeter then i'm gonna click on okay i'm gonna click
02:24this plus sign then i'm gonna hide the second sketch sketch 2 okay now i'm gonna come back to the part
02:31design workbench then i'm gonna go to insert dress up features then replace face okay now in order for
02:40you to extrude this part face up to this external face all that you need to do here is that to select
02:48this surface as a replacing face then for the face to remove you need to select the top face of the
02:55extrusion then you click on ok so as you can see here on the screen this is how you can extrude
03:03a part face up to a surface in the part design workbench of katia thanks for watching
