Learning how to write text on a piece in CATIA is an important skill for anyone involved in product design, mechanical engineering, or 3D modeling. Text engraving or embossing is often overlooked by beginners, yet it plays a crucial role in making models more professional, identifiable, and ready for manufacturing. By mastering this feature, you can add functional and aesthetic details that enhance both the clarity and quality of your designs.

One of the key reasons to learn this skill is part identification. In professional projects, every component often requires labels, part numbers, or logos. Knowing how to inscribe text directly onto a 3D model in CATIA helps ensure accurate identification during production and assembly. This reduces confusion and errors when multiple parts are involved in complex systems.

Another reason is branding and presentation. Adding company logos, design signatures, or model names can make your 3D models look polished and industry-ready. When presenting designs to clients or in a portfolio, engraved or embossed text demonstrates attention to detail and a higher level of professionalism.

Additionally, learning to write text on a piece allows you to prepare models for CNC machining or 3D printing, where labels or surface markings are often required. You’ll understand how to control text depth, alignment, and placement to ensure precision.

Ultimately, mastering text creation in CATIA strengthens your design communication and modeling versatility. It’s a simple yet powerful feature that connects digital design with real-world manufacturing needs. Whether you’re creating mechanical parts, consumer products, or prototypes, being able to write text on a piece helps you produce more complete, functional, and professional designs.

00:00hey everyone in this video guys i'm going to be showing you how you can write a text on a piece
00:05in katia okay but guys before we jump into the details do not forget to hit that subscribe
00:11button to join the soviet engineer community and without further ado let's jump into the video
00:17okay so the first thing that you need to do here is to go to the start then mechanical design then
00:23part design then you enable the upper design and create a geometrical set options okay then you
00:29click on okay next you click on the xy plan then sketch okay then you go to the rectangle then
00:39center it rectangle we're gonna draw a rectangle like this starting from the point of the axis
00:46like this then we're gonna go to the constraint we are going to add a dimension of one
00:53100 millimeter here then the same thing here
00:58100 millimeter okay so here 100 millimeter and here 100 millimeter then you exit the workbench
01:07we are going to create a pad of 20 millimeters the current in work object isn't in a body the new
01:15solid feature is created after the last feature of the part body so the new extrusion you will find it
01:22under the part body okay here not here here then you click on okay then okay like this so the sketch
01:32under the geometrical set and this solid part you will find it under the part body okay great the next
01:41step will be going to start then mechanical design then drafting then you choose this option okay empty sheet
01:50then you click on okay then you go to a command called text you click on it then you click on this window
01:59here you can add the text that you want in my case i'm gonna write the savvy engineer
02:06then i'm gonna click on okay you can change the position of the text like this
02:14you can change the size of the text from 3.5 to let's say 5 millimeter you can change also the font of
02:23the text okay now i'm gonna go to file then save as then i'm gonna choose the dwg file format then you
02:35click on save then you close this window no then you come back to the piece you select the top
02:44face of the part then sketch now you go to file then open then you go and click on the dwg file then open
02:58you select all the text right click copy you come back to the piece right click on the sketch too then you
03:09click on paste then you click on the fit all in then as you can see here on the screen this is the text
03:19we're gonna change the position of the text on the piece like this then we exit the workbench okay
03:28then we are going to use the pad command
03:31and add one millimeter as a value for the length and as you can see on the screen this is how you can
03:42write a text on a piece using the power design and drafting work benches okay thanks for watching
