Learning “How to Create an Extrusion Not Normal to the Sketch Plane” in CATIA is essential for engineers, designers, and CAD professionals who want to create complex and realistic 3D models. In many real-world designs, parts are not always aligned perpendicularly to a sketch plane — for example, angled brackets, turbine blades, or aerodynamic surfaces. Understanding how to extrude features along a non-normal direction allows you to accurately represent these advanced geometries.

This skill enhances your ability to model with precision and flexibility, giving you more control over the orientation and direction of your features. It helps you go beyond basic extrusions, enabling you to handle sophisticated assemblies and meet specific design requirements. Moreover, it improves your efficiency in mechanical design, product development, and simulation workflows, since you can generate accurate shapes without relying on multiple sketch planes or workarounds.

By mastering this CATIA technique, you develop a deeper understanding of the software’s geometry control tools and gain a competitive edge in design engineering. Whether you work in automotive, aerospace, or industrial design, knowing how to extrude features not normal to the sketch plane is a powerful skill that reflects true professional-level modeling expertise.

00:00hey everyone on this video guys i'm going to be showing you how you can create a pad or extrusion
00:06not normal to the sketch plan but guys before we jump into the details do not forget to hit that
00:11subscribe button to join the savvy engineer community and without further ado let's jump
00:17to the video okay so the first thing that you need to do here is to go to start
00:23mechanical design then part design then you click on ok
00:26next you click on the xy plan then you click on sketch i'm going to go to the rectangle then
00:35center it's rectangle i'm going to draw a centered rectangle like this i'm going to add here 100
00:43millimeter and i'm going to do the same thing here 100 millimeter then i'm going to exit the workbench
00:53then i'm going to go to the yz plan then click sketch again i'm going to draw a line like this
01:01i'm going to add an angle between this sketch and the second sketch an angle of 45 degree
01:08then exit the workbench then i'm going to go and click on pad then i'm going to click on the first
01:15sketch then more then i'm going to uncheck the normal to profile option then for the reference
01:21i'm going to go and click the second sketch this line then click on ok so as you can see here on
01:26the screen this is how you can create a pad or an extrusion not normal to the sketch plan thanks for
01:32for watching
01:37you
