Learning “How to Cut a Solid with a Surface Like a Pro” in SolidWorks is essential for creating advanced and precise 3D models. This technique allows you to modify solid bodies using complex surfaces as cutting tools, giving you far more control over the final geometry than traditional extruded cuts. In real-world design, many parts—such as aerodynamic bodies, curved enclosures, or custom-molded components—require cuts that follow intricate surfaces rather than flat planes.

By mastering this method, you gain the ability to shape models with high accuracy and flexibility. It helps you produce smoother transitions, organic forms, and unique contours that standard cutting tools cannot achieve. Using a surface to cut a solid also simplifies modeling by reducing the need for multiple sketches and reference planes, saving time and improving workflow efficiency.

Additionally, this skill deepens your understanding of SolidWorks’ hybrid modeling environment, where solid and surface tools work together seamlessly. It’s a crucial capability for professionals in mechanical design, product development, and manufacturing who need to create functional and visually appealing parts. Learning how to cut a solid with a surface like a pro turns you from a basic SolidWorks user into a skilled, production-ready designer.

00:00hey everyone in this video guys i'm going to be showing you how you can cut a solid with a
00:05surface in solidworks okay but guys before we jump into the details do not forget to hit that
00:10subscribe button to join the soviet engineer community and without further ado let's jump
00:16to the video okay so the first thing that you need to do here is to go to the top plan right
00:21click normal 2 right click then sketch i'm gonna go to the sketch here i'm gonna go to the center
00:26rectangle i'm gonna add a rectangle of 100 millimeter here then i'm gonna add the same value
00:35here 100 millimeter dimension click ok then exit the workbench then go to features then go to
00:43extruded boss or base i'm gonna add here an extrusion of 100 millimeter then click on ok next i'm gonna go
00:51to the front plan right click normal 2 right click then sketch i'm gonna go to the spline command i'm
00:58gonna draw a spline like this okay then i'm gonna exit the workbench okay i'm gonna go to surfaces
01:06then extruded surface for the first limit i'm gonna add 100 millimeter and i'm gonna add the same value
01:12for the second limit or for the second direction then click on ok great next i'm gonna go to the
01:19cut with surface command i'm gonna click on the surface so this is the arrow if it's going up this
01:26means that we're gonna delete the upper side we're gonna keep the bottom side of the solid okay so if
01:33i click ok we're gonna keep the bottom side of the solid you see and if you change the direction of the
01:40arrow you're gonna keep the upper side of the solid okay so this is how you can cut a solid with a
01:46surface in solidworks thanks for watchin
