00:00Mix 94.7 Sean Mack broadcasting live from the LiveGrayStarATX.com lounge. Joe Keery's
00:08in the house. How are you, brother?
00:09Hey, good. How are you doing?
00:10Good. Welcome back. Weekend one was eventful for you, of course.
00:15It was great.
00:16Great show. Great reception. And also, I don't know if this is a sensitive topic, but we
00:20had an arrest last weekend.
00:22Yeah. Quite sensitive. I was in jail all week. I was in jail. Finally got the money
00:29enough to get myself out of jail finally. Appreciate that. Yeah. No, it was fun. I'm
00:35a fan of hers. For those who don't know, Sabrina Carpenter does an arrest a hot guy thing at
00:40every show, and you had the honor last week of being arrested. How does that come about?
00:44Do they approach you and they're like, hey, what do you think about this?
00:47Yeah, you know, friends of friends and stuff like that. We've got mutual friends. She recorded
00:51a lot of her music at Electric Lady, which is where I've worked, so I kind of have a lot
00:55of missed connections. So, yeah, cool to see her, see her show really, and also, you know,
01:00yeah, fun to be a part of it. Amazing performance from her last weekend, and you, and you guys
01:04are like back-to-back stages basically, so a lot of the fans can go see both of you guys.
01:07Yeah, it's kind of cool. We're sort of like across the way from each other.
01:10Right. Congrats on the Crux Deluxe. Hey, thank you.
01:13We have now like a double album. Was that always kind of the plan, or was it, you know, you
01:17had the first album in April, and then this just kind of developed. You wanted to put more
01:20of the music out that you've been working on? Yeah, it's a good question. It wasn't the
01:24intention initially. There was so much extra music left kind of on the cutting room floor
01:29that existed from that era. It felt like it wasn't necessarily a new album, but just maybe
01:36a peek behind the curtain of what else was sort of going on, and it felt like a cool way
01:41to give people just a little bit more context about what was going on surrounding the recording
01:45of the record, and maybe some of the other influences just kind of like flesh out the
01:50world of the whole thing, I guess. And it just sort of all was kismet and kind of came together
01:55in the right way. Speaking of influences, you talked about Carole King, LCD Sound System,
01:59Super Tramp on this album. Yeah, yeah. When you're working on an album, is it a situation where
02:04you just have to turn off the acting brain and just do completely music? Is it like separate
02:08parts of the brain, or is it all just kind of creative at once? It's all quite creative. I mean,
02:13it's like a different challenge. Both things are, you know, you're flexing different muscles,
02:18I guess. But it's, I guess, maybe more of like a writer's brain than a performer's brain, maybe.
02:25Right. Where, like, as an actor, you're kind of acting out other people's words,
02:29and then this is like you and your own words. Yeah, yeah, it's like exactly what you said. Like,
02:34maybe acting is a little, it's like the live performance side of it, whereas, you know,
02:40writing is, you're actually just like writing the thing. Right. Before I let you get out of here,
02:45Stranger Things, of course, wrapping up. Is it bittersweet? Is it like, you've been doing this
02:48for so long, it's been such an important role to you, and you're ready for new challenges,
02:53but also kind of sad, because, you know, you've been working with these people for years on stuff
02:56like that? Yeah. Pretty much it. That's pretty, pretty much nailed it. Yeah, that's like,
03:00kind of the whole thing. I mean, like you said, it's been the better part of 10 years of my life,
03:06so, hard to say goodbye. Happy for, kind of, new challenges on the forefront, but we'll kind
03:11of see what happens. It's, it feels like the beginning of something new. Awesome. And we're
03:15excited to see you tonight. Thank you again for doing this. Yeah, thank you. Everybody go support
03:18the new record, the double album, More of Joe. Exactly what we all need, exactly. Thanks. Yeah.
03:23It's John Mack, broadcast live, VIX 94.7 at ACL Music Fest.
