The Lucid Gravity X is an off-road crossover concept that pushes the boundaries of what an electric SUV can be. In this exclusive look with Chief of Design Derek Jenkins, discover how Lucid took its three-row Gravity SUV and gave it "more ruggedness, durability and a little bit more sense of adventure". The design features a wider track, lifted ride height, and all-terrain tires, all without compromising the vehicle's on-road performance. The Gravity X, with up to 828 horsepower, also features exposed tow hooks, protective skid plates, and a roof cargo tray for ultimate off-road functionality.
The interior of the Gravity X showcases Lucid's custom-built aesthetic, with bold orange accents and a suede steering wheel with contrast stitching. The car’s body is a canvas for adventure, featuring etched topographical maps of iconic California road trip locations like Death Valley and Big Sur. The Gravity X, a "one of one" concept, was unveiled at Monterey Car Week to gauge public interest and explore design ideas for future products. This is a no-compromise experience for those who want a family-friendly electric SUV that is equally at home on a city street as it is on a rugged trail.

Forbes covers the intersection of entrepreneurship, wealth, technology, business and lifestyle with a focus on people and success.
00:08It is an off-road crossover concept version of the Lucid Gravity 3-Row SUV.
00:14And here to tell us a little bit more about it is Chief of Design, Derek Jenkins.
00:19Derek, thank you so much for being here with us.
00:21Tell us exactly what it is that we're looking at.
00:24Obviously, we've been really busy with the launch of our just standard Gravity,
00:27but we thought, wouldn't it be cool to just add a little bit more ruggedness, durability,
00:33and a little bit more sense of adventure to the already amazing Gravity.
00:37And that's how this got started.
00:39You know Lucid. Our core focus is range, its performance, its interior space, and of course, good design.
00:47We have an updated front bumper, a little bit more ramp angle in the front, exposed tow hooks,
00:52more rugged tire and wheel package for off-road capability.
00:55Even the rocker area has been lifted.
00:58And then we did this really great roof cargo tray just to be able to add that additional storage capability for trips.
01:05We understand consumers like to have off-road vehicles as a daily vehicle,
01:10but we didn't want to create something that was so compromised with daily life, handling, vehicle dynamics.
01:16And I think with Lucid, our goal is always to try to give you it all and really give you a no-compromise experience.
01:23And I think that's where we really differ from others that are solely looking at off-road capability.
01:29I think right now we still envision it as a three-row.
01:32Our long-term plan is to offer a two-row Gravity.
01:35So if this were ever to make it into production, I think you'd have that opportunity in the future to get it in both configurations.
01:44We really wanted to take inspiration from this idea of the classic California road trip,
01:50which is like going from the ocean to the mountains to the desert.
01:54To celebrate that, we have this decal concept.
01:58We have Death Valley with this topographical map.
02:01We have Big Sur, which is nearby.
02:04And down the side of the car, we have a coordinate for this exact point for Hebel Beach.
02:09Probably one of the most distinctive of changes that we made to this over the normal Gravity
02:14was we widened the track 40 millimeters per side.
02:18So that pushes the wheels out, gives a bigger envelope for our more rugged tire package.
02:23And we did a special 20-inch wheel for this car as well.
02:27That's what gives the car a lot more tough stance on the road.
02:31So we have the seats all down.
02:33And you can see we even did a custom mountain bike to match.
02:36So we started with our Ojai interior.
02:38That's one of our standard colors.
02:40That's this taupe finish.
02:41But then we came in and we did the orange accents throughout.
02:45Special Micro Suede steering wheel with contrast stitching.
02:49And even our center console glass we did in the orange tint,
02:52which is my favorite part of the interior.
02:56The truth of the matter is we already have really great demand for the gravity as it is in its normal form.
03:02But with this concept, we're trying to gauge is this something that people would like to see from us.
03:07I can tell you that there are aspects of this car that has already kind of been explored in some of our future products in the form of our midsize program.
03:17So it's not like we're not already looking at this.
03:20But I'd love to get that confirmation and feedback from people that see it online or even from folks here at the show.
