00:00Well the facts are very clear in this case. The Crown Prosecution Service, which is an independent
00:05body, asked the government for evidence. That evidence was provided in the way that they had
00:11asked for it. The CPS then independently took the decision that the evidence didn't meet the
00:16threshold for prosecution under the law as it stood at the time. Now the law was subsequently
00:21strengthened. This was under the previous government. Had they strengthened the law
00:25earlier, then there's a better chance this case would have stood up in the courts. So if there
00:29is fault, it's not with the official who provided the evidence to the government. He had served
00:34this government and previous governments faithfully and loyally and is very, very well regarded.
00:39The fault lies with the previous government in failing to strengthen the law when they
00:42could have done it.
