00:00I'm confident that Labour MPs will back what Shabana Mahmood, our Home Secretary, announced yesterday
00:05because all of us were elected on a manifesto that committed us to securing our borders.
00:12All of us are outraged at what we see with these traffickers, that vile trade in human being,
00:19putting people on dinghies, launching them into the English Channel.
00:23And we've lost lives. Over the last year alone, 14 children drowned in the English Channel because of this.
00:31So we know we need more safe and legal routes to get people into the country who have a need to come here for sanctuary and for refuge.
00:39But we have to stop those who do not have a right to be here from making that journey,
00:45not least because of the danger it poses to their own lives.
