00:00The October 10th death of a local flight attendant, surnamed Sun, has triggered investigations in Taiwan.
00:07Sun had been hospitalized on September 26th, the day after returning to Taiwan on a flight from Italy.
00:14During that flight, she continued working despite feeling unwell.
00:18Now, both her employer, Taiwan's EVA Airways, and the labor ministry are investigating her death.
00:25The question? Whether Sun died because of workplace failures.
00:30The two unions representing EVA employees have spoken out against the airline's policies.
00:53They say that the company discourages people from asking for time off on short notice,
00:58as it could affect their performance reviews and flexibility in changing their shift schedule.
01:03Those policies may have deterred Sun from taking sick leave when she needed it.
01:08The reason why I keep an eye on the limit is that she was sick.
01:10She was in a bus for a while to travel to school.
01:13And she was in a movie for a term break from the pandemic, trying to stay in summer.
01:15After one meeting, she was depressed.
01:17The mother didn't go well since she was sick.
01:21She was sick to stay.
01:23She was sick to her informant for her time at the time.
01:26The cabin manager during Sun's last flight has also come under scrutiny.
01:48The Civil Aviation Administration says that the cabin manager's report filed after the
01:53trip did not say that Sun felt ill during her flight, a detail that should have been included.
02:06The cabin manager has since come out with a statement defending herself, saying that she
02:11knew that Sun did not feel well and she checked in on her throughout the flight.
02:16She says that it's unfair to assign responsibility of Sun's death to her and that she will take
02:22legal action if necessary.
02:24Sun's family held a memorial service for her on Tuesday.
02:28They say they won't press charges against EVA for now, but they have urged the company to
02:33rethink its work culture.
