00:00A week after one of its flight attendants died from suspected overwork,
00:09Taiwan's EVA Airways finally responds.
00:13A flight attendant surnamed Sun died in hospital in October after working a long-haul flight from Italy to Taiwan while feeling unwell.
00:36Sun's case has drawn national attention and has raised questions about labor practices within the airline industry.
00:43To critics, EVA's leave policies are punitive and harsh, with some saying crew members are discouraged from taking time off suddenly.
00:52Many speculate that Sun didn't ask for time off for fear of being punished and pushed herself too hard, ultimately killing her.
01:01Both EVA and the labor ministry launched investigations into Sun's death.
01:07EVA says that it's cooperating with authorities and will adjust their employee protocols to create a safer space for its workers.
01:15Currently, during the investigation, after the investigation, we will not be able to explain the details.
01:22When the investigation happens, the company will be able to conduct the investigation.
01:29Company reps say they aim to release a report within a week.
01:33But a union representing EVA flight attendants says that isn't enough.
01:39They're leaving flowers outside of the EVA office in Taipei in Sun's memory, a symbol of their commitment to making sure this never happens again.
02:04This is the first major statement EVA has made in response to Sun's death.
02:22While the company is expressing its regrets and its willingness to make changes, for many other airline workers, their words are a hard pill to swallow.
