00:00The inquest into the death of a Queensland meter reader who was killed by two dogs at a property south of Brisbane in 2022 has entered its second day here on the Gold Coast today.
00:13Payne Minion was at the Logan property to read an electricity meter when he was attacked in December three years ago.
00:20Now the Bull Mastiff Cross dogs called Scooby and Dozer were euthanized after the attack.
00:25The Coroner's Court sitting at Southport has today heard from a witness who helped to train meter readers working for Energy Queensland.
00:33Trainer Adrian Dick told the court all readers were given dog spray and training before working in the field.
00:39He said from 2019 a policy had been put in place to ensure meter readers did not enter a property unless dogs were restrained.
00:48But he did concede there were properties where it was not clear where the dogs were.
00:52Now earlier in the week the inquest heard from pump technician Brian Harnett who detailed to the court his close call at the property one week before Mr Minion was killed.
01:03Mr Harnett said it was a mistake in hindsight not to report the incident.
01:08Now the inquest is expected to run until the end of the week.
01:11It will consider the circumstances that led to Mr Minion's death and the adequacy of meter reading procedures.
