NDA's joint press conference cancelled, seat-sharing talks still on

The National Democratic Alliance (NDA) joint press conference regarding seat-sharing for the upcoming Bihar assembly election has been cancelled.

00:00Big news coming in from Bihar. This is related to the seat-sharing formula of the NDA parties.

00:06There was a joint press conference scheduled for 4 p.m. today and it seems it has been cancelled.

00:14Why? Could there be a last-minute hiccup as far as NDA's seat split in Bihar is concerned?

00:21The BJP and JDU apparently are yet to agree on Chirag and Manji's seat.

00:29So, this is a big news that is coming in right now.

00:33Last evening, it was announced that these parties have decided the seat-sharing formula.

00:40Joining us right now is India Today's Rohit Singh.

00:43Rohit, what has happened? Why is the press conference cancelled?

00:48Well, see, there are some last-moment glitches which we can say are still emerging as far as the seat-sharing agreement

00:55which was sealed yesterday's concern because yesterday we saw that it was decided

01:00that both BJP and JDU would contest on 101 seats and 29 by Chirag and 6 seats by Manji and Upanda Kushwaha.

01:07And today it was expected that there will be a joint declaration also as to which party will be contesting

01:15from which assembly constituency.

01:17But now what is emerging is that there are some differences which still persist over the seats

01:24that Chirag Paswan has demanded because those seats are presently being held by the Janta Dal United

01:31and there have been several rounds of meetings that have taken place since morning

01:35at the residence of JTU. Working President, Sanjay Jha's residence, Samrat Chaudhary, Vijay Sinha from the BJP

01:43are constantly holding consultations with the JTU top leadership regarding the seat that each party will be contesting

01:51and there are still issues on few of the seats which Chirag Paswan wants and Jita Namah Ji also wants.

01:58So that is why keeping that in mind that there has been no consensus that has been reached till now.

02:03So the press conference which was scheduled to be held today at 4pm has now been cancelled for the day

02:10and maybe tomorrow we can see that a fresh press conference will be held

02:15and again the official declaration will be made that which alliance partner from the NDA

02:21will be contesting on which seat. Back to you.

02:24Right, Rohit, do tell us because what we had seen late last evening was an extremely positive note on which

02:35each of the leaders of the allies had come out and tweeted and said

02:39yes, in a friendly environment we've come to a seat sharing formula.

02:42But now suddenly, you know, one would have expected that all those last minute details have been ironed out.

02:49So what could be the sticking point, if you could pinpoint, which seats could be the sticking point, if we could speculate?

02:55Well, see, yesterday we saw that all the alliance partners, BJP, JDU, Chirag, Manji, Upinder Kishwaha,

03:04they all came out on the social media posting that unanimously the alliance has decided

03:11that how many seats that they are going to contest.

03:15Yes, but after that when Jitana Manji reached Patna after the declaration was made, he looked pretty disturbed

03:23and he said that he had demanded 15 seats in the alliance but he has got only 6 seats

03:30and he was not very happy with only 6 seats that his party has got.

03:36However, he said that he will continue to be a part of NDA.

03:38Then today we saw, in fact, late last night only we saw Upinder Kishwaha also taking into social media

03:46to express his displeasure at the seat adjustment that has taken place

03:52that he has also got only 6 seats.

03:54Today when he returned to Patna, he was doing all the shero shari on the social media

04:00and he was also expressing his displeasure that he also was not happy with only getting 6 seats

04:07and it is very much evident that Chirag, Paswan, who has got 29 seats,

04:12it has not worn down well with Jitana Manji, Upinder Kishwaha.

04:15So still some differences remain as far as the NDA is concerned

04:20but everyone is maintaining that they are together and will fight elections together.

04:26So yesterday we saw the NDA partners gloating that their seat sharing formula is final

04:31while Mahagat Bandhan's is not and today the cancellation of their joint.
