Rye hosts 72nd National Town Criers' Championships

00:00Hey! Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the 72nd National Town Crier Championships.
00:19This is the longest running town crier competition in the world.
00:30It started in Hastings in 1914, it became the national championships during the 1950s,
00:40and for the last three years we are delighted to have held it right here in Rye.
00:52For those who don't know me, my name is Paul, I am the official town crier for Rye.
01:00And I have my own fan club.
01:06Obviously because I am the host today, I am not allowed to compete.
01:14But all these good ladies and gentlemen behind me, they will be competing for you
01:18and trying to win the title of National Town Crier Champion.
