Power restored to Ukraine's Odesa following major Russian attack on energy infrastructure

A Russian overnight drone attack on energy facilities in the Ukrainian Odesa region left hundreds of thousands of people without power on Saturday. Ukrainian private energy firm DTEK said that power has been restored.

00:00Around 50 towns in Ukraine's Odessa region were left without power on Saturday morning,
00:08following an overnight Russian drone attack on energy infrastructure, according to regional
00:12authorities. Ukrainian private energy firm DTEK reported that power has since been restored
00:19to the 240,000 households affected. Odessa's regional governors said that besides energy
00:27infrastructure, two residential buildings and a hotel were damaged. One person, a 47-year-old
00:33woman, was injured. Power was also restored to over 800,000 Kyiv residents on Saturday,
00:40following a separate attack by Russia on the Ukrainian power grid a day earlier,
00:45which caused blackouts across much of the country. The energy sector has been a key battleground since
00:51Russia launched its all-out invasion more than three years ago. Each year, Russia has tried to
00:56cripple the Ukrainian power grid before the winter season, apparently hoping to erode public morale.
