00:01Pressure is mounting on Hungary's European Commissioner for Health, Oliver Vahelyi,
00:06following allegations that a Hungarian spy ring operated out of the country's permanent representation in Brussels while he was ambassador.
00:15The alleged network reportedly recruited Hungarian EU staff to gain access to sensitive fires.
00:22It's not clear whether Vahelyi is aware of the operation,
00:26but the Commission said today its president, Ursula von der Leyen, intended to seek answers.
00:34As said, it is obviously the intention of President von der Leyen to raise this and discuss this with Commissioner Vahelyi directly.
00:44She didn't yet have the occasion to do so, but this will be done at the earliest convenience, as I said before.
00:50The European Commission has also launched an internal working group to probe the allegations,
00:57which dates back to between 2012 and 2018,
01:01a time when relations between Budapest and Brussels deteriorated sharply.
01:07So far, neither Vahelyi nor Hungary's government have publicly commented on the reports.
