00:01Welcome, and thank you for joining me today as we delve into this remarkable story.
00:06The 2025 regular season presented numerous challenges for the Indiana Fever, yet the
00:10team maintained its focus thanks to the leadership of Kelsey Mitchell and Aaliyah Boston.
00:15Faced with a roster significantly impacted by injuries, both Mitchell and Boston stepped
00:21up to the challenge, transforming difficulties into opportunities.
00:25Their exceptional performances contributed to one of the most successful seasons in
00:29Fever history, culminating in a franchise-record 24 victories and securing a playoff spot for
00:36the second consecutive year.
00:37The remarkable achievements of Mitchell and Boston not only redefined the Fever's legacy,
00:43but also established their status among the greatest players in the league's history.
00:47On Friday, their outstanding contributions were acknowledged when Mitchell was named to
00:51the All-WNBA first team, and Boston received a spot on the All-WNBA second team.
00:57Each season, only 10 players are selected for All-WNBA teams, a recognition that has been
01:04awarded annually since the league's inception in 1997.
01:08With this recognition, Mitchell and Boston became the fourth and fifth players in Fever
01:14history to receive All-WNBA honors, joining the ranks of notable players such as Hall of Famer
01:20Tamika Catchings, Tina Charles, a 12-time All-WNBA selection with seven first-team honors, Katie
01:28Douglas, who earned two All-WNBA second-team selections during her tenure in Indiana, and
01:34Kaitlyn Clark, recognized as a first-team All-WNBA player in her 2024 Rookie of the Year
01:40season, have all made significant contributions to the league.
01:44With the recent announcement, Kelsey Mitchell and Aaliyah Boston have become the second pair
01:48in the franchise's history to be named to all WNBA teams in the same year, following
01:53in the footsteps of Catchings and Douglas, who achieved this honor in 2009 and 2010.
01:59Kelsey Mitchell has established herself as one of the top-scoring guards in the WNBA, and
02:04in her eighth season with the Indiana Fever, she elevated her performance to an MVP caliber
02:10level.
02:11During the 2025 regular season, she led the league with 111 three-pointers made, and scored a total
02:17of 890 points, making her the second-highest scorer overall and the top scorer among guards.
02:24Additionally, she ranked third in the WNBA for points per game, averaging 20.2, which surpassed
02:31a Fever record that had stood for two decades, previously set by Tamika Catchings in 2003.
02:36Mitchell averaged 19.7 points per game, showcasing not only her ability to score in large quantities,
02:42but also her remarkable efficiency. In fact, she joined an elite group of just five other
02:47guards in WNBA history, who have achieved shooting percentages of at least 45.6 percent from the
02:53field and 39.4 percent from beyond the arc, while also averaging 20.2 points per game in a single
03:00season. Furthermore, she contributed significantly to the Fever's offense with an average of 3.4
03:06assists per game. The Ohio native led her team in playing time, logging 1,381 minutes over the course
03:13of the season, and she started all 44 games despite the team facing challenges with 18 different players
03:19participating due to injuries. In addition to her scoring prowess, Mitchell established new
03:24franchise records for the most points scored in a single season, and became Indiana's all-time
03:29leader in career three-pointers made, totaling 669, which ranks eighth in WNBA history. She also set a
03:37franchise record for the most career games scoring 30 points or more, achieving her 11th such game and
03:43surpassing the previous record held by Catchings. Fever head coach Stephanie White praised Mitchell
03:48stating, Kels is just one of a kind. She's someone who can get a shot whenever she wants, someone who can make
03:53plays, and she's very understated. In her performance, Mitchell consistently demonstrated her
03:59ability to deliver under pressure. Whenever the Fever required a significant scoring effort,
04:04Mitchell frequently stepped up to the challenge. This season, she recorded four games with 30 or
04:09more points, all of which took place on the road. Notably, she achieved a career high of 38 points
04:14during an overtime win against Connecticut on August 17, where she played a crucial role in leading the
04:20Fever back from a 21-point deficit. As a result of her outstanding contributions, Mitchell was selected as a
04:26WNBA All-Star for the third year in a row and received two WNBA Eastern Conference Player of the
04:32Week awards. Although she was a finalist for the MVP award, which ultimately went to Aja Wilson of Las
04:38Vegas, Mitchell was also named to the AP All-WNBA First Team. Being only the third player from the Fever
04:44to receive All-WNBA First Team honors, Mitchell's 2025 season will be remembered as one of the finest
04:50in the history of the franchise. Throughout her 2025 season, Aaliyah Boston continued to demonstrate
04:57why she is considered a cornerstone player. One of the standout players in the Fever's front court,
05:02Boston is recognized as one of the top bigs in the WNBA. Her strong presence in the paint provided
05:09much-needed stability for the team, especially as they navigated through various injuries affecting
05:15their guards. Boston's exceptional offensive intelligence and defensive adaptability were crucial
05:20to the Fever's record-setting season. During her third year as a professional player, Boston achieved
05:25a personal best by averaging 15 points per game, showcasing remarkable efficiency with a shooting
05:31percentage of 53.8. Additionally, she contributed significantly with 8.2 rebounds, 3.7 assists,
05:40leading all centers in the league, 1.2 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game. With 7.1 win shares,
05:48Boston was ranked as the fourth-best player in the entire WNBA. Her presence on the court elevated
05:54Indiana's offensive rating by 8 points and improved their defensive rating by 2 points compared to when
06:00she was not playing. Over the course of the season, she finished fourth in the league for total rebounds,
06:04amassing 361 in 34 games. This total not only marked a personal achievement, but also set a new
06:11franchise record for the most rebounds in a single season, surpassing the previous record.
06:16In both the 2023 and 2024 seasons, she set significant benchmarks. The three-time WNBA All-Star concluded
06:24the year with 17 double-doubles, ranking third in the league for the previous season and marking the
06:30highest total in a single season for her franchise. Boston demonstrated remarkable consistency while also
06:36being capable of delivering impressive performances when her team required it. On June 25, she achieved a
06:42career-high of 31 points, shooting 13-for-18 against the Seattle Storm. Furthermore, from late July to
06:49August 4, she established a franchise record by achieving six consecutive double-doubles. On August
06:5530, in a game against the Los Angeles Sparks, she recorded a personal best of six steals, including a crucial
07:02steal that secured the game with just 1.9 seconds remaining. Fever head coach Stephanie White remarked that
07:08Boston had to adapt her playing style more than any other player on the team due to injuries as she
07:14participated in all 44 games for Indiana. This adjustment meant she had to focus less on pick-and-roll
07:19plays and low-post actions, taking on more of a facilitator role in the offense. During her 2025 season,
07:28Boston surpassed 1,000 career rebounds, achieving a significant milestone in her professional journey.
07:33In franchise history, she is the fastest player to achieve this milestone. Over the course of three
07:40seasons, Boston has accumulated a total of 1,051 rebounds, placing her fourth in the all-time
07:47rankings for the franchise, and she is only 64 rebounds, shy of surpassing Ebony Hoffman to claim
07:55the third spot. Additionally, with 41 blocks recorded last season, Boston has ascended to third place
08:02in the franchise's history, with a career total of 140 blocks. On Wednesday, she was recognized by
08:09being named to the WNBA All-Defensive second team. This achievement marks the first time a Fever player
08:15has received WNBA All-Defensive honors since 2017, making her the fifth player in the franchise's history
08:22to do so. She joins the ranks of Tully Bevilacqua, 6 selections, Tamika Catchings, 12 selections,
08:30Katie Douglas, 5 selections, and Breon January, 6 selections. Throughout her first three seasons
08:38with the Fever, Boston has established herself as one of the premier basketball players globally,
08:44and she shows no indication of diminishing her performance as she approaches the 2026 season.
