Student nurse shares joy as hospital domestic job leads to a degree course

00:00I can't wait until my four children go, my mummy's a nurse.

00:04I started working in the hospital 2018 as a domestic and watching the nurses, I just really admired them.

00:12Years ago I did St John Ambulance and I just, yeah, that kind of got into my veins of loving the medical world

00:19but I just never thought I could do it, I just never thought I was good enough.

00:22And then they've all just encouraged me and just said, oh you could definitely do it and motivated me

00:26and I thought, okay, I'm going to try this journey.

00:29She obviously wanted to move on further and go through a career progression journey

00:34so once she then mentioned about the nursing, we then did everything in our part to try and push her through it

00:41and get her onto the course and then hopefully it will pay dividends in the future.

00:47She's very good and we're very happy to have her here and she's picking up, she's learning very fast

00:53and it's a great opportunity.

00:55I thought you could only travel through the healthcare, like a healthcare assistant role

01:00but then when I went to nurses open day, I got chatting and nurses were like, nope, you can apply through any role.

01:05The greatest benefits for me is financially wise, as I'm out on placement, my domestic role still supports me financially wise.

01:14As everything's online, I can sit at home, make the kids dinner, go online and study away

01:19and my kids are getting to watch that, they're watching their mummy doing a degree.

01:23It's just really flexible and I can be a mum and be a student nurse at the same time.
