00:00In these playoffs so far, playoff starting pitchers against the Cubs have a 6.62 ERA,
00:08giving up a .273 batting average, 13 of the earned runs the Cubs have scored,
00:12have been against starters. Bullpens for the Padres and the Brewers have a 0.81 ERA,
00:19a .173 batting average against, giving up just three earned runs and 33 and a third.
00:24Uh-huh. Why are the bullpens so much more effective in this little sample so far
00:30than the starters are? Against the Cubs? Yeah. I don't think it's a thing.
00:35I think you just, I mean, you have a sample size of two teams.
00:39One of them, their whole deal is their bullpen and the Padres.
00:43And then everybody that comes out of the Brewers' bullpen kind of throws a bazillion.
00:48I mean, I found, you know, talked to Mike Petriello last night
00:52and had him update a number for me.
00:56This Chicago Cubs team has faced more velocity in this postseason
01:02than any team has ever faced in any postseason.
01:05The average two or four-seam fastball is about 96 and a half.
01:11Hang on, I have it here somewhere.
01:12But ultimately, unless you think in 1998 that someone was throwing, on average, 97,
01:22one of those teams, and I'm here to tell you, not likely.
01:27Yeah, I would say that ultimately the Cubs right now are facing the highest level of velocity
01:35that anybody has ever seen.
01:36So I asked Craig Council yesterday, why is a team that overall didn't strike out
01:41and didn't swing and miss so much, striking out and swinging and missing so much?
01:45Because they're facing absurd velocity.
01:47Yeah, it is this year's Cubs team in the playoffs.
01:51The average fastball they faced, average, is 96.7.
