Amelia Kerr said that New Zealand are wary of the spin threat posed by Bangladesh and explained how they plan to tackle it during their clash on Friday, October 10 in Guwahati. New Zealand are chasing their first win of the tournament.

00:00Good evening. I'm from Suriko Bishesh. I'm from Portland. I'm going to go to Australia.
00:05So first match you lost with Australia and next match with South Africa.
00:12So how is the condition of your dressing room now?
00:15Yeah, obviously it's not the way you want to start a tournament with two losses, but the dressing room's good.
00:22I think we've had some really good conversations and there's been still a lot of positives to take out from the first two games.
00:32And with tournaments, you can't dwell on things. You've got to move on.
00:37And yes, you want to learn from what you could do better, but also remembering the stuff that we've done really well to keep trying to continue to do.
00:46And you've got to stay positive because there's always a game around the corner and we know that we're still really in this World Cup.
00:57Hi. Obviously, the first match you played at the same point, you were in the goal, now on different conditions, and you must be going as a spinner, staying in this ground.
01:06So as a spinner, how are you looking forward to these conditions?
01:09And also, as a batter, as a top-order batter, how do you plan on facing those? Because, you know, especially in Bangladesh, you're stuck with them.
01:17I was seeing the nets as well, our spinners have been brought in as well. So how is that going on?
01:22Yeah, obviously tomorrow we'll get to have a look at the wicket.
01:26And then it's about trying to sum up conditions really quickly.
01:30But having a couple of days to train here, there has been quite a bit of turn and bounce in the nets, which is exciting for my bowling.
01:38But then, on the other hand, with batting, it's just being really disciplined and the best way to play spin.
01:45And we know with Bangladesh, I think, apart from the opening bowler, they're a spin-heavy attack.
01:52And they've had a lot of teams in trouble as well throughout this tournament we've seen.
01:57So I think being really disciplined with the bat, you have to sum up conditions really quickly and then work out what your best game plan is.
02:06And everyone's game plan is going to be slightly different.
02:10So, yeah, it's one where I'm getting a little bit excited for bowling, but I've probably got to work a little bit harder with the bat.
02:22What is key to building partnerships out there?
02:25Do you know that we have struggled at times to build partnerships or what's key to making that work?
02:30Yeah, I think we've been in positions where we've built good partnerships and got to a stage where we're probably back on top of the game with the likes of Brooke and Sophie in the last game.
02:43And then, obviously, one mistake and that kind of puts us on the back foot and then we lost wickets and clumps.
02:51So I think when it does get easy and you have that partnership and you're building nicely, it's just keeping on remembering that that is good enough.
03:01Sometimes I think you can think too far ahead or feel like you're behind the game and try something that's high risk.
03:08But I guess it's as simple as doing things for longer because there's always more time than what you think.
03:15And how pleasing has it been to see Soph in some really good form here, especially in her last ODI World Cup?
03:22Yeah, well, Soph's obviously a world-class cricketer.
03:25And she's just been so switched on, I think.
03:30Obviously, her last 50 over World Cup.
03:33But, yeah, the way she started this World Cup has been outstanding.
03:37The 100 and then the 80-odd against South Africa.
03:41And I just think her leadership and her discipline she's showing with the back to get into the fight and work really hard.
03:50It's not necessarily been easy all the time.
03:53We've had to rebuild and she's really stepped up.
03:56And it's nice when you've got someone like her in form because teams fear her and she can win a game on her day.
04:05And should Leah play tomorrow or be her 100th ODI of New Zealand?
04:10Just a comment on what she brings to this group.
04:13Yeah, Leah's, it's one, I think, a real testament to her.
04:18100 games as a pace bowler.
04:21And she's had a lot of setbacks along the way.
04:23She's had injuries.
04:25She's had lost her contract for a bit.
04:28So her resilience, I think, is massive for this group.
04:32And then, one, I think, when I think of Leah in big moments or at World Cup, she always steps up.
04:38She always wants the ball.
04:40And she wants to compete and get in the fight.
04:42And I think that's what makes her one of the best bowlers going around and what's helped her have such a successful career is that fight and competitiveness she brings to each game.
04:54You mentioned how Sophie has been in great form in the past two games.
05:01She's had too much of the batting after, you know, when it begins as well.
05:05So you have Sophie in front of them.
05:07And someone like Susie Waves has done so much with you in so many years.
05:10But when she's in sort of a bad form, you would say, how is she interested in what you are in the conversation that you're having with her?
05:18And how is she trying to, you know, get back into doing this?
05:21Yeah, I don't actually think there's such thing as bad form.
05:26I think you can play one shot and feel like you're good again.
05:29And leading into this World Cup, Susie was playing in the UK and scored a truckload of runs.
05:35And we had warm-up games before this World Cup.
05:39And I thought, Susie looked the best I've seen her for a long time.
05:43So she's made two mistakes and gotten out twice.
05:47But I think she's in form.
05:50I think she's in a really good place with the bat.
05:54But cricket's pretty fickle.
05:55And you make a mistake and that's your day.
05:59But I think she's in a great place with the bat.
06:01And with her experience, she'll be able to bounce back very quickly.
06:05But, yeah, I don't think there's necessarily any concerns there.
06:10And as a team, we know how valuable she is and the form she's been in.
06:14And I think she's in a really good place with the bat.
06:17Yeah, it's my first time here.
06:39And in terms of playing in India, I think the crowd has been awesome and the energy they bring to each game.
06:48And, yeah, I guess watching a few games here, they've been slightly lower scoring compared to other grounds.
06:55But traditionally, it has been good wickets here in India so far during this World Cup.
07:02We've seen spin probably get a lot of wickets at this ground.
07:05So, again, it's adapting, the net's out the bat, we're turning a bit, which might mean it will out there.
07:11But it could also be a flat wicket.
07:13So, I don't know and I won't know until tomorrow.
07:17But it's about trying to gather information as quickly as possible from our opening bowlers and our opening batters
07:25to try to understand what it's doing and then working out what a pass score is from there.
07:29I think at this World Cup,
07:57every team can win on their day.
08:01So, you can't take any game lightly.
08:04And I think what they did against England, I thought they bowled really well.
08:09And we obviously have done our scouting and I think they've got a really good bowling attack.
08:15And being accurate on these wickets and trying to build pressure is something all teams are trying to do.
08:22And Bangladesh did that really well against England,
08:24which put them into a little bit of a hole which Heather Knight got them out of.
08:30So, yeah, I think every team's going to be a challenge.
08:33It's a long format.
08:34So, that's even more of a challenge because mentally you've got to be switched on and do things for longer.
08:40But I think it's going to be a really great game and they're a quality side.
08:45So, we've got to be at our best to beat them.
08:47Last thing that you've talked about, the potential spin game of part tomorrow.
08:53Do you think we might see our part-time spinners, Maddie Green, Susie Bates, step up that all throughout the game?
08:58Yeah, I think, you know, I've only seen myself and Eden bowl as the spinners in the White Ferns.
09:06But I think Susie and Maddie at trainings have been bowling a lot and working really hard on it.
09:13And we know that at this comp at some point we're going to have to call on them.
09:17And whether that's tomorrow or later in the comp when the pitches might get slower.
09:22But I think the pleasing thing is how hard they've been working in the nets.
09:26And I think they're both genuine bowling options for us.
09:30So, it'd be nice to see one of them or both of them bowl.
09:35And I think it'd be, for Maddie, her first time bowling in a World Cup.
09:40So, yeah, I'm really pleased with the way that their bowling is going.
09:45And I'd say they're a lot better than part-time offies.
09:49So, thank you.
