00:00What special strategy South Africa will adopt after the disastrous first game?
00:04Sorry, can you repeat the question?
00:06What special strategy South Africa will adopt after the disastrous first game against England?
00:12Yeah, I think when you just look at the team, we always knew coming in a tournament like this,
00:18games like this happen.
00:20I think because it's such a long tournament, I think from us as a team and also as a batting unit,
00:26just to accept what has happened and then, I mean, Laura kept it off nicely and said,
00:31we don't become a bad batting unit overnight.
00:34Obviously, homework was done and I was just looking forward to the next one.
00:41Hi, when you said the homework was done, I'm sure not a lot clicked against England,
00:46but if you can expand on exactly what went wrong, I'm sure you went into the match with certain tactics in mind.
00:52So, if you can shed a little more light on what you think went wrong against England.
00:56Yeah, I think you can't take away the smarts from England.
01:00They came in with a plan and they executed the plans quite fondly.
01:06And I think when you look at how we went about the things, I think we were a bit rushed.
01:11So, I think we weren't really present in that moment in time.
01:14And I think when you go back and you probably from my personal side is when I went back,
01:19I was like, I don't think I was really present in that delivery I went out.
01:23So, I think it's just being honest and say it wasn't a good day out and we take whatever we want,
01:28but we're not going to dwell on that.
01:30We're just going to say, this is what didn't work.
01:32And we're going to say, now we literally have another game.
01:35It's a long tournament.
01:36You can't literally ponder on one performance.
01:42Yeah, so you landed in indoor yesterday.
01:44And this is, today is going to be a first training session.
01:47New Zealand earlier, Susie Bates, they said that because they've been here for the last few days,
01:51they had a couple of days off, they go into the match with slight advantage
01:55because they know the conditions, they know the stadium.
01:57It's going to be a different pitch tomorrow, but how do you assess that statement?
02:01And do you think it's better off for you guys because you move from there to a new venue,
02:05a completely new surrounding where you don't have the pressure of the previous match on you?
02:09Yeah, I think we had to leave the town behind us.
02:12When you look and you're coming into indoor, and I mean the people have been fantastic.
02:17And I think for us, we came, as you just mentioned, it's like a fresh perspective.
02:21So you're going to come, we're having our first training session now.
02:24So obviously just assessing the conditions.
02:27We saw with the first game they had, it was a high-scoring day.
02:30And I think for us, as a batting unit, is to just literally just knuckle down and just bat.
02:36Don't think too much about the outcome.
02:38Just take it one ball at a time.
02:39And I mean, we were speaking a different story when we came in with the likes of Tasman Brits and Laura Volfert up front.
02:45And I think it's a brilliant opportunity for them, especially with this game coming forward.
02:54After first defeat, how important is game really for your team?
02:57No, every game is important.
03:00And I think playing each team, you literally have to take it one game at a time.
03:06And I mean, our next opposition is New Zealand.
03:09We're not looking ahead.
03:10We know that when it comes to being tactical, they're probably high up there.
03:15So we have to bring in falls.
03:17And I mean, coach has said, leave everything behind.
03:20Tomorrow is another opportunity.
03:22And I mean, a lot of different individuals will pick up their hands in tomorrow's game.
03:26Right.
03:27You earlier mentioned that the first game here was a high scoring fixture.
03:32But if you look at it and analyze it, apart from Sophie Devine, New Zealand also would have been embarrassed against Australia.
03:38It would have been a huge defeat.
03:40So have you as a team analyzed New Zealand's defeat against Australia?
03:44And if you did, and if you can shed light on what positives and negatives you've taken from that analysis?
03:49So you want me to give everything away?
03:51If possible.
03:52No, I think for us, we know that as a bowling unit to be really disciplined in our lines.
03:59You have the likes of Amelia Kerr, you have Susie Bates, you have Sophie Devine that have been playing for a really long time.
04:05But also you're not underestimating your Georgia Pilmer, your greens, your easy gaze.
04:10She came off.
04:11And I think when you look at that, for us as a bowling unit is to be very disciplined in how we go about our things.
04:17And yeah, we've shed light on the batting.
04:20I think it's just going to be the character of the team.
04:23Are we willing to dig deep?
04:25I mean, we came from Pakistan, we were able to, and then before that we were in Sri Lanka.
04:30So we've been playing in these conditions, so it's nothing new.
04:32And I mean, I always make a joke and I was like, we've probably faced all of these deliveries in net sessions.
04:37Why can't we just go into a game and just execute?
04:40So I think for us is to literally say, okay, we had a blowout, but we've got New Zealand ahead of us.
04:47Your record against New Zealand in recent past is not good.
04:51Will that be in your mind when you will be in ground?
04:55When you say not good, elaborate on that.
04:58You lost to them in the last ODI, you lost to them in the T20 World Cup final, recent past.
05:07Recent past, okay.
05:09Fortunately, cricket is a game where you wake up and you have another day.
05:13And I think when you look at how we've played, if you really want to go that deep,
05:182023 World Cup, you could have been speaking another different story in South Africa.
05:22But I think for us, it's literally just being disciplined in what we do, and we take it literally one ball, one game at a time.
05:29It's a two-part question. One, I know you've just arrived, but have you had the chance to take a look at the pitch and see how it looks?
05:42And if you did, can you let us know what your thoughts on that are?
05:45And do you have any injuries or niggles going into this match for any player?
05:50Oh no, everyone's fresh. When you look at the individuals, everyone is fresh.
05:55I think when you have a game like that, it brings a lot of things into perspective.
06:01Being reflective, but also leaving it way behind.
06:04And with the pitch, luckily we have coaching staff that will tell us what is at hand.
06:10And yeah, I just have backing from our coaches and stuff because they've literally carried us over the last three years in this calendar.
06:19And I have full faith on what the coach will say out there.
06:23Thank you. Thank you so much.
06:28Thank you. Cheers.
