Mali's transitional government dismisses officers over foiled coup attempt
Mali's transitional leader, General Assimi Goïta, has formally dismissed a dozen high-ranking military personnel for their alleged involvement in a failed coup attempt in August, according to a presidential decree made public this Wednesday.

00:00Mali's transitional leader, General Asimi Goita, has formally dismissed more than a dozen military personnel for their alleged role in a failed coup attempt.
00:10A presidential decree made public on Wednesday details the expulsion of several officers, including Brigadier Generals Abbas Dembele and Neman Sagara, among other lieutenant colonels and captains.
00:24The individuals were arrested on 1st of August this year.
00:28Major General Daoud Ali Mouamadine, the acting defense minister, stated on a television that they were involved in a subversive plot that was successfully thwarted by specialized services.
00:41Notably, the government alleged that foreign national from France, Yann-Christian Benavisillier, actively participated in the foiled operation.
00:49The transitional government has condemned the attempt and assures that judicial investigations are ongoing to identify any accomplices.
00:58This is not the first such purge.
01:02In May of last year, General Goita dismissed six other officers who were later reported to have joined a separatist group.
