00:00Have you allergies? Yes. What are you allergic to?
00:08Egg, peanut, milk.
00:14Kate is four years old, she's just started P1 and she was probably very unsettled from birth and was diagnosed with allergies when she was five and a half months old.
00:26So she's allergic to milk, egg and peanut.
00:29I suppose I was very ignorant to anaphylaxis before, as a family, that we were living with it.
00:35Anaphylaxis is a life-threatening medical emergency. It's a severe allergic reaction that needs immediate medical attention.
00:42And the way to do this is to treat it with an adrenaline pen, such as EpiPen or Jex.
00:48Sometimes I think in allergy, the word allergy can become synonymous with just food allergy, but in actual fact we treat all allergic conditions.
00:58I didn't really fully understand it. As a mummy, you're always afraid. You're always just trying to make sure she's safe.
01:07For me, as a mummy for Kate, I am her role model. So whilst I might feel anxious or be nervous, I try and let her know that she can do anything, that her allergies won't stop her.
01:20And I'm also her voice because she's only four. So when she's doing things and trying to teach her and teach other people.
01:28Up to 50% of children in Northern Ireland could be affected by one of these allergic conditions.
01:34And all of the allergic conditions have a very significant impact on children's lives and also the family life.
01:42It's never out of your head when she's not with you. You're always thinking, like, I would never be more than 30 minutes from home.
01:51Because I always need to get to her if she has an allergy.
01:56I would say to someone who's just diagnosed with an allergy or anything, that it gets easier.
02:03You learn to deal with it and you learn how it becomes part of your day-to-day life.
02:08Everywhere we go, we carry her jacks pen with us to keep her safe.
02:13You learn how to keep her safe.
02:15You learn how to keep her safe.
02:16You learn how to get her safe.
02:17There's a perfect a good condition.
02:19It's been a good condition.
02:21She'll be weird.
02:22But it's all about two things and being you're talking to the same person.
02:24So she's also quite experienced.
02:26She's always experienced while she's been around in Yorkshire.
02:29She's really proud.
02:30She's a person who's been doing to her in town and she's been in a year.
02:32She's really proud of her inoine.
02:33She's a person who's been a parent-ベaseman and she's been around here.
02:36And she's been a peçosник today.
02:38She's a person that's a person who, she's been a child-be-documentary.
