Animal rights campaigner Zara Duncan speaks out after Max the dog was deemed to be a pit bull type dog by a Lisburn judge
Transcript
00:00Today's outcome on Max's breed type is obviously not what Max's campaign hoped for and we're
00:08heartbroken for Max and the future implications that these restrictions will have on his life.
00:16One thing the case has very clearly highlighted is there are clear flaws in the legislation when
00:22it comes to how we identify pit bull type dogs specifically using the ABDA standard framework
00:32it's left open to a lot of subjectivity whereby if a dog meets a certain number of characteristics
00:40it can essentially be found to be type but what isn't helpful is that there is no clear definition
00:48of what substantial means and when we think about some of those characteristics and how shared
00:55a lot of them are for instance coat type eye shape there are a lot of those characteristics that could
01:02be met by any breed type meaning it's a very subjective inconsistent and in this case extremely cruel process
