00:01:06And the various offs that people were having
00:01:10I think it's just a case of trying to get up to speed for for James isn't it and making sure that you know
00:01:14While he hasn't been in the car if there's anything that's come to light
00:01:18Obviously the tracks evolving and changing so
00:01:21Yeah, when uh, when peer greedy came out the car was what was the feedback on the car?
00:01:26What was the feedback on the circuit? Anything they could do to help him to get up to speed will be a big benefit
00:01:32The days of drivers having a talk when they are on the exchange are long gone
00:01:38The the the more about efficiency we can get you the information over the radio
00:01:42But the days of that little bit of conversation where you see the drivers talking about the car maybe hand gestures that sort of stuff
00:01:50Not anymore. Not anymore
00:01:52Well funnily enough this is one of the few championships I think where the pit stops are as quick as you can make them
00:01:59Most championships nowadays have a pit window a pit a time that you have to stay in the pits
00:02:06So take NΓΌrburgring 24 hours for instance you have to be in there for a couple of minutes
00:02:10So you know you've got plenty of time you've got plenty of time to chat and the drivers can pass over the information firsthand
00:02:16But in this racing, there's no time for the these pit stops have to be as quick as possible when it can make the difference between
00:02:24Winning the race and not winning this right
00:02:27And lmp2 now we've got uh pro-am car actually leading overall with the uh equal racing car
00:02:34There is jacobsen behind the wheel
00:02:37another of the uh 14 danish drivers that are here at le mans
00:02:44And he's just been uh recently appointed uh perjo junior driver
00:02:49So great uh i'm sure they'll be watching his performance very closely
00:02:55Almost 300 kilometers an hour before he got to the braking point for the first chicane
00:03:00And you can hear the engine note of the p2 car quite quite different to the hypergar
00:03:11Let's hear from the team
00:03:12Okay mate fuel target now is 6.30 we need to save fuel to gain one up we are expecting some rain so we need to go long please mate
00:03:21We are currently leading the overall race
00:03:24So there you go the strategy with the rain coming is starting to play to all of these teams we need to save fuel so that we can stay out longer
00:03:36For the rain to get here so we don't have to make an extra stop
00:03:42When the rain gets here so there's obvious things you can do in this situation
00:03:47I suppose the one of the most obvious is you lift off
00:03:52When you're at max speed you just left off a bit earlier
00:03:56And they still still break at the same point one of the other things is most of these drivers are left with braking
00:04:02So if there's a crossover between your brake and accelerator
00:04:07It burns extra fuel
00:04:09So that's something to think about as well that the crossover isn't is it isn't so dramatic
00:04:16And quite often with the lifting codes if you do it well, you can actually go just as quick pretty much
00:04:22Doing the lifting codes as if driving normally because once you're at maximum speed if you kind of just roll out of the fossil slightly earlier
00:04:29It doesn't really affect a lot time too much, but it saves you know quite an amount of fuel. Yeah
00:04:40I could sit and listen to these are
00:04:42I think the p2 car they're quite high revving and there's quite a lot of vibration in the car that they really really do sort of resonate and vibrate in the car
00:04:51But they're an amazing amazing amazing car
00:04:56Super reliable and obviously a one make you know one make class now
00:05:05Yeah, but it's it it doesn't feel like spec racing
00:05:09No
00:05:10It doesn't feel like spec racing even though it is a one make class everybody's running the gibson which is based on the nissan
00:05:18Engine they're all running the orca
00:05:21chassis
00:05:23Everybody's on good your tires. It's a spec tire
00:05:28And now it's a little sort of trade of uh lmp2 cars with uh jakerson who's the overall leader in lmp2
00:05:34Trying to put them another lap down

00:05:45I think we've got our answer now on james collardo. He is starting to close the gap slightly on sebastian bohemi ahead of him
00:05:53So we could see a good little battle
00:05:56developing there quite soon
00:05:58And also uh bohemi isn't exactly closing wasn't exactly closing on nico miller of course. He's uh made a pit stop so that
00:06:08That will change that around but

00:06:52but they're uh trying to catch up the

00:07:01Is on an outlap the iron dames with rachel fray in the number 85 car is
00:07:07Second in the class then the proton competition 9 11 with uh francesco castellici behind the wheel
00:07:15Then the kessel racing the first time we've uh first time we've called kessel racing daniel serra
00:07:21Is in fifth position in the class in the number 57 ferrari
00:07:27Daniel serra won a couple of times already here, isn't he once in
00:07:32At least once in aston martin and in the ferrari
00:07:36In a um gt pro. Yeah, I think that's brakes guys

00:07:48Now he's actually dropped back a couple of spots. Um, I don't know whether he's made a pit stop, but he's dropped back down now to

00:09:47So we've got one persia one toyota one ferrari two cadillacs now in the top five so this is a replay of the car the corvette going

00:10:29Everybody associated with this program is just over the moon happy with how things have been going mike rockenfeller behind the wheel of the car now
00:10:37When it's done fueling hopefully we'll stay with these pictures and you'll see the uh
00:10:46The dance of the jack man no hydraulic jacks on this car
00:10:50As is kind of the standard in in road racing
00:10:54This is uh the floor jack and looks like they're going to replace some fluids first
00:10:58So that's the high pressure system
00:11:07It's come apart so this is going to be a long pit stop
00:11:10But the tire changers were able to do their work in
00:11:17Just over 10 seconds in the pit stop competition
00:11:20And it's quite a ballet to see these guys work
00:11:25With the jack man and with the way that we can only have in this form of racing so many
00:11:33Unlike formula one where you have seven people for each tire
00:11:37You only have so many guys that can go over the wall to work on the car
00:11:41And here we go
00:11:43That thing weighs about 45 pounds which we worked out earlier was 16 or 17 kilos

00:11:58It's so cool to see this car. It's such a such a great thing to see and hear
00:12:05And they're continuing to carry on they have
00:12:08They're turning lap times in the in the four minute range
00:12:12They have uh, I don't think they have
00:12:17Climbed as high they've they've
00:12:19They have all of their lap times in the practice sessions were quicker than the gt cars
00:12:24But they're kind of mired in the middle of the gt field now in 24th position overall
00:12:30I think they're I think their wish for the day is to get close as close as they can to
00:12:36Being in the top 20. I think one of the factors is when it rained and the tricky
00:12:41Conditions yeah, they lost their straight line speed advantage and all of a sudden the gt cars are exactly are on them
00:12:50So the 50 car now slipped down to 12th place. So that's promoted both click and clicking houses up to anything nice now
00:12:58And the 37 car the core car would be following is now in the pits. It's dropping down the order
00:13:03So maybe they really did have a problem. Yeah, yep
00:13:09Yeah, because he's now been in there for a while
00:13:13And we start to see the 50 car dropping down the uh the leaderboard now
00:13:18down to 14th overall

00:13:23Such a shame they were running so well led the race various times full position car of course here's mike rockenfeller
00:13:32that distinctive downshift
00:13:38Here's five speed paddle shift on this car unlike the
00:13:44Winston cup wow just aged myself there
00:13:46When did they stop running that a long time ago?
00:13:55The cup car of today which is this is the same as the gen 7 cars that you see in nascar action on sunday afternoons
00:14:03But this car has instead of a sequential it has a sequential gearbox but it's paddle shift as opposed to the sequential shift on the floor
00:14:11Which is what the gen 7 car has other than that it's pretty much identical
00:14:16It's 400 pounds lighter than a cup car and they were able to achieve that through going from
00:14:22steel brakes which is the the rules in nascar to
00:14:25Composite carbon brakes which took out a lot of the weight and also they did some reconfiguring full course caution
00:14:32We have another full course caution
00:14:34I haven't seen on the screen yet why we may have that
00:14:44Going back to the nascar one other fact
00:14:47Is they removed the hybrid system that the aco asked them to put in
00:14:54So in the end the aco said okay you don't need to have a hybrid and they and that was a big weight saving yeah
00:15:00Both the clicking houses still still running
00:15:08Still waiting to see why we have this full course caution
00:15:12It's what this isn't a safety car. This is just the field gets neutralized to
00:15:1880 kilometers an hour
00:15:20Can we see any cars stopped on track whether the primer car okay we we know that stopped

00:15:37Is there debris there was a there was a a message about debris on track but um this is good news for the 50. Yeah

00:15:59Worst feeling driver sitting there you know

00:16:06So 20 minute rest and then you go again
00:16:09So now do you become the um the test the test mule for the sister car
00:16:14So for example if you have change of conditions and you want to try a different tire or something
00:16:19While this car's clearly out of the race for the win

00:16:23It it could be used for you know to help the sister car in some way
00:16:27I think I think you have to I think you have to there's so much on the line here
00:16:31It it gives you that opportunity to maybe go to slicks early or something like that. We have heard that there is rain
00:16:39expected
00:16:40In the next uh in the next little while
00:16:46They said 20 minutes uh about 10 15 minutes ago
00:16:59He says the full course yellow is going to end shortly
00:17:05So maybe it was just debris on the circuit
00:17:11Yeah, that makes it a uh

00:17:21Again we talked earlier uh the toyota started on softs because of the uh mixed conditions
00:17:29Everybody else during the daylight pretty much raced with the mediums and tonight as you guys expected
00:17:35They have almost all gone to softs
00:17:37So interesting even though we had a fairly high track temp no one no one's from what I saw being on hard tires all all weekend
00:17:45Current ambient temperatures 19.8 track temperatures 23.1
00:18:01This looks like the fight for second place
00:18:03Just look at the screen there it says stop for the cadillac and the penske porsche

00:18:18So we've got uh

00:18:22To porsche's this is the battle for second place in the gtm category
00:18:30Through tetruge and out onto the mulsun straightaway

00:18:44Terminal velocity at this racetrack in this section of the racetrack
00:18:48So fry trying to hold off rump as they come to the first chicane

00:19:48Web is now already closing in within a second of uh nico molosso within striking distance so uh and not far behind where me is uh james collado
00:19:57So it's uh, it's getting tight from now. Yeah game on again and the cadillac number two alex lind is only uh 12 seconds
00:20:07behind the leader just eight seconds behind
00:20:09Our uh third place ferrari
00:20:13And there he can see them as they go underneath the iconic dunlop bridge down through the dunlop s's
00:20:31The hunter and the hunted
00:20:33So when we last talked about him he was seven seconds behind so he's
00:20:40Closed up he's probably closed
00:20:43Yeah more than a second to lap on him if you look on the last lap there it's five five 31 for the for nico muller and
00:20:51525 there which was full course yellow course, but yeah 516 for a colada, so
00:20:56Nico muller seems to have been in a car for a long time and must be doing definitely a triple stint triple stint
00:21:19Of course there was the perjo team that uh as you said 20 minutes or so ago
00:21:30Told nico that there's likely to be some rain coming
00:21:36Nico is probably just thinking he wants to get out of the car before the rain comes well
00:21:40I think that uh when it does come he will be getting out of the car and that event just turned over
00:21:50The toyota's right right with him now
00:21:59This is the battle for the lead
00:22:01We know the toyota is good when the conditions are a tricky uh piece so they'll be again
00:22:15Looking forward to that uh potential rain exactly if that rain comes
00:22:20It just puts him in a much better position. I expect the toyota will breeze by fairly easily

00:22:32Yeah in terms of straight line speed it definitely seems to me that the peugeot is possibly the weakest
00:22:37One or setting up this maybe not the strongest
00:22:43And even even out of the tighter corners it lacks that boost I mean we're going to see the
00:22:49The toyota just pull away that extra little bit. It just doesn't seem to have the oomph out the corners
00:22:55He's gone already. Yeah
00:22:58But we did hear nico talking earlier about the car being just a little bit unsettled
00:23:07In certain areas of the track
00:23:10And we've seen that by their on-board run on the in the daytime as well
00:23:14And we've got the pit stop for car number eight under investigation, which is the leader. So
00:23:19I'm not sure what that is is about, but there's a possible uh
00:23:24Issue there with their pit stop. So let's let's see what happens with that
00:23:28Well, yeah, that's a car that made two stops. Yeah
00:23:32Um and it seemed like uh unnecessary
00:23:36I wonder whether the the um
00:23:40Pit lane had actually
00:23:42You know was close this one. Yeah, it doesn't happen if it was yellow though. It's definitely was a strange one and
00:23:48Got james clatter now catching up again. He's only 1.1 behind uh nico moller. So again
00:23:55It won't be long before uh
00:23:57He's trying to get past
00:24:06So the 51 the 50 car is now back on track
00:24:13Good uh indication of a wet offline there. So yeah, the track still hasn't even though it's quite quite warm
00:24:19So hasn't properly dried. It's very humid still
00:24:30Just a little over 13 and a half hours remaining
00:24:37A whole lot of race yet to be run
00:24:39Yeah, that that 37 core car it's dropped right to the back now. It's obviously got a problem

00:24:59So when is pulled out 1.6 seconds in the last couple of laps, so
00:25:06He's just getting his head down and trying to pull out pull out a gap
00:25:09Hopefully there'd be no issue with the uh with the pit stop still wait to find out more information on that

00:26:16Must be frustrating for him knowing that he can really do nothing about

00:26:25Later on maybe on the most sun the 51 car will probably just pass him on the street as well
00:26:32Yeah, because that's the 51 right behind the peugeot now
00:26:36As they head into indianapolis
00:26:40And it's interesting i'm sorry that's porsche curves yeah it's really interesting to see the difference in the two cars how the the
00:26:47Peugeot is visibly moving around more
00:26:49And the Ferrari just seems to be completely nailed down but you know through the porch corners there
00:26:56fastest corners on the track yeah
00:26:57Peugeot actually looked like it pulled away so it might look a little bit more nervous but it certainly
00:27:02Doesn't lack pace through there and it's interesting that it would be a little more nervous in the dry
00:27:07But not as nervous and perform better in mixed conditions when everybody else is nervous yeah
00:27:16Sometimes it can be maybe their their sort of suspension setup is a little bit softer the car's a bit more compliant
00:27:22So when it does become cooler or it becomes
00:27:26You know inclement weather that the car just seems to get those those conditions better
00:27:35Far is not really gained on it. No, you're right
00:27:39I mean, let's see now. I mean we were just saying earlier on that
00:27:42It seems to be the straight line speed the peugeot is perhaps lacking a little bit compared to the the other the other hyper cars, but
00:27:48Um, let's see if he claws back some of that time now as we go to the bonsang straight
00:27:54Yeah, the proof will be in the pudding here if they go down
00:27:57Towards the first you came because this is the fastest part of the racetrack. This is when they reached their highest

00:28:41So muller had a better better lap time last lap
00:28:45But just by a skosh there goes your race leader sebastian blemi
00:28:52Here comes second and third

00:29:05There they are it's almost as if the pressure starting to close back in on on blemi

00:29:26Who's going to be able to work the traffic better in these high speed portions of the racetrack
00:29:37Come the engines to indianapolis that worked well for the the porsal not so good for the ferrari. Yeah
00:29:43It's so difficult for these gt guys because they are absolutely on the limit
00:29:48Yes, of course when you've got a hypercar probably either side of you trying to get around you in a you know high speed corner such as the porsche corners

00:29:56It's it must be very difficult trying to look in your mirror and hold your line going around the number 98 aston martin
00:30:05Which is currently 10th in gtm
00:30:09Ian james behind the wheel of that car ian making his first return here in
00:30:14Uh almost 20 years
00:30:21I spoke to him. I used to race against ian and yeah
00:30:251994 in form of uxol jr
00:30:27And I saw him probably for the first time since about that time in the paddock
00:30:33And now we were just chatting and he's been in america for 27 years now. Yeah, yeah racing pretty much full time over there
00:30:39Kevin s just just put in uh
00:30:44Is that their fastest time? Yeah, that's that that's a personal best for that car and a three what is it?

00:30:52The same for the uh for the hendrick nascar it's done its best uh personal best time with mike rockefeller at the wheel so the tracks obviously

00:31:43Muller's actually matched the uh last lap time of boy me which is both slightly quicker than collardo so
00:31:49Muller's he's genuinely there on pace he's
00:31:55You see that where me caught past him and then since then he's sort of found another gear and yeah, he stepped it back up again
00:32:02So yeah, as you say it's driving a great race
00:32:10Alex lynn's lapping of a similar pace as the leaders they're very very close on on that time, but it's still um

00:32:18He's still 10 well almost 11 seconds behind
00:32:21But he is on on pace. Ah, but he was 12 earlier so he's chipping away. He's chipping away at it

00:32:32So there you go they're close enough now that we're measuring it in meters not in uh in seconds

00:43:18This is that ebb and flow this is one of the things that I love about endurance racing guy is the the ebb and flow of the pit stop cycles
00:43:26when you have
00:43:29You know in american oval track racing you'd almost call it like they're off sequence because
00:43:33You know they'll pit now and the other guys may not pit for five or six more laps
00:43:38Yeah, and that's a
00:43:40And and you have to kind of do the do the math as to what they gain or lose
00:43:45After the pit stop after things have settled down
00:43:47Okay, what was it before the pit stop?
00:43:49Yeah, and what is it now and that to me is one of the most interesting aspects of
00:43:55Sports car racing is that is that give and take and it's you know
00:44:00You you get to that point where it's kind of like what I like to call the crossover pit stop where you're so
00:44:06where you're close enough now that
00:44:09The next time you make the pit stop you're going to be able to hold the advantage as opposed to losing
00:44:14It's like with nico muller and alex lynn is to see if they've gained some time

00:45:20Um this is the leader in uh into europol car in lmp2 making its pit stop
00:45:34So three minute stop and go penalty for car 74
00:45:39For not respecting the full course yellow procedure
00:45:43Who is that that's the castle racing car yeah

00:45:57Then again another one that has not had a trouble free run as our leader comes back out
00:46:05Onto the racing surface after their pit stop in lmp2
00:46:13So that will kind of settle things out because the 30 car has made his pit stop already
00:46:20So once we get a uh once they cross the timing line we'll see uh just what's happened to the advantage there or not
00:46:29And at the front of the field nico moller again is managing to maintain that gap back to alex lynn
00:46:35both cars circulated in very similar lap times, but uh
00:46:39Lynn's keeping the pressure on but uh the gaps remaining quite consistent right now, so uh
00:46:43uh down to seven seconds
00:46:48And it looks like the uh 38 is going to head back into the garage again
00:46:53currently 10th in class
00:46:56And there's four laps down on our leader
00:47:01So it was a it was a promising start
00:47:04fully uh fully started to unravel
00:47:07when uh
00:47:09Yee went into the tire barrier
00:47:13the porsche curves

00:52:10quite pleased to see that and then in in gtm it's uh
00:52:16The number 56 project 1a0 gunner jeannette behind the wheel of of that car
00:52:23affectionately called rexie his uh teammate hyatt has uh
00:52:28daughter
00:52:29Wanted to see the dinosaur so got the t-rex teeth across the front of the porsche and little t-rex arms on the uh
00:52:36on the on the on the doors and it's a great great
00:52:40livery
00:52:42special livery for this race then comes the
00:52:44af course of ferrari number 54 with francesco castellici and then the iron dames dames
00:52:53Rachel fry behind the wheel of that so it's porsche ferrari porsche and the the interesting thing
00:53:00that that af course of ferrari number 54 that's the silver ferrari that you see out there of the of
00:53:06the af course of fleet of of ferraris that car's just quietly
00:53:12quietly appeared in the top five and now it's appeared in the top three
00:53:16just going about their business work workman like manner
00:53:21and that's it that's what this race is all about isn't it it's about staying out of trouble
00:53:25now we're going to check in and uh see what sebastian webby thinks okay sam we see you
00:53:32stabilizing with the roll bars is there anything we can do to help you question
00:53:36okay so we're sitting here uh singing the phrases of how sebastian webby is starting to pull out a
00:53:50little bit of a lead on collado and then we find out from team radio that he's virtually disgusted with
00:53:57his race car and having trouble dialing it in and the crew saying we're seeing you adjust the roll
00:54:03bars what else can we help you with yeah you see clara the the field hopes he that doesn't get it
00:54:10figured out he's chipping away uh cloud is there just put a little bit more um timing on on where
00:54:17me so you know he's under he's under pressure it ain't it it's a fight it's a fight and he's looking
00:54:21he's trying to use all the tools uh his disposable uh that's disposable to him in his car so that he
00:54:27can try and and get some more speed out of that car it's um trying to tune it to the circuit the
00:54:32tracks perhaps changing as it as you know it starts to cool down and he's trying to you know dial that
00:54:38race car in um the best that he can and and blimey's not a guy who's shy about talking to the crew about
00:54:44what he thinks is wrong with the race car he's he's he's pretty vocal uh has been his entire career yes
00:54:51about uh he is a perfectionist and he wants that car to be as well dialed in as he can get it and he's
00:54:57not afraid to let the crew know if it is not up to a uh standard he likes yellow at uh marshall's post 11.
00:55:12that's the entrance of the first chicane okay and we can see the the first two cars actually pulled out a
00:55:19small gap over the uh peugeot and the cadillac so they're about 13 seconds um back now and our our
00:55:30battle is rejoined in lmp2 as uh the inter europe pole entry number 34 and the duquesne team number 30
00:55:41neil yanni is now closed to within half a second and i think he's going to make it make a stab at
00:55:49taking over the top spot here on this lap
00:55:56the uh peugeot number 93 which is the car that's in seventh place overall a couple laps down to our
00:56:03leader after having some issues early in the race just going through this battle kind of separated them
00:56:11a little bit we're gonna have a slow zone uh slow zone slow at zone three which is marshall post six
00:56:18so that's the uh that's tetrouge okay so we are again into uh that area of the racetrack for a
00:56:34slow zone that's been kind of the hot zone in this event calamity corner if you will oh that was
00:56:41close that was close that was really close he'll look back at the highlight video and go oh my god i
00:56:47didn't think it was that close the slow zone will be uh i'm taking a look here oh and this is why we
00:56:59have a slow zone 32 number 32 car
00:57:07down the order that he's over there on your page
00:57:13that's the other inter-europe ball car that's where the ann magnuson ah
00:57:19straight seemed like a really strange yeah almost like something bro didn't it just kind of
00:57:23those snap shot left yeah that's exactly right
00:57:33so there's the 94 car third place car gustavo menenez here we go into the uh slow zone yep into the slow
00:57:43zone that's
00:57:47actually after dunlott we've not actually had a slow slow zone for a little while have we no we haven't
00:57:53we have it
00:57:56and they go through tetrouge so this slow zone will take them all the way through probably the end
00:58:02of the first chicane so hopefully we won't see any calamities at the as the uh removal unit is already
00:58:13there to uh clear the wreckage of the 32 car jan magnuson was was behind the wheel of the car
00:58:23so neil yanni is still behind the uh inter-europe car but right on his tail there so
00:58:38there you see on the screen the slow zone and how it works so it goes from
00:58:44the first part of the slow zone is the
00:58:47next zone which is the warning area that you're about to enter the slow zone
00:58:51and you're not allowed to do any passing there and you need to get yourself down to
00:58:56the slow zone speed and then the slow zone speed carries you all the way down the straightaway
00:59:02through the first chicane and then you'll see a green flag once you've cleared the chicane
00:59:08and there you see the 32 car being lifted and he'll be pulled back and if he's able to carry on that
00:59:16he'll try to work his way back to the pits as you see folks picking up debris and parts that were
00:59:29scattered after he impacted the wall yeah these marshals have been amazing so far this race they've
00:59:34been so busy clearing up the wreckage repairing barriers uh that just kind of works entirely so
00:59:40uh a big shout out to all the marshals yeah such a great job there's the number 25 car
00:59:46comes to the pits fifth in class
