00:00It's a battle in College Station between Texas A&M and Mississippi State.
00:05Mississippi State entered this matchup, Coach, with only one loss.
00:09It came the week prior against Tennessee.
00:11They lost the matchup but covered as a 7.5-point underdog against the Volunteers.
00:16They dropped that game 41-34.
00:19We saw this line open at 14.5 in favor of Marcel Reed and the Aggies right before kick.
00:26This line ballooned to 17.5.
00:29Texas A&M answered the bell.
00:31They win it dominating style, 31-9.
00:35They get the winning cover against the previous very good blue-collar team in Mississippi State.
00:41Complete effort on both sides of the ball for Mike Elko and the Aggies.
00:46Well, I took those points hook, line, and sinker.
00:49I was jumping on it all over the place.
00:51But you know what?
00:52Texas A&M, again, played great defense.
00:55This was a 7-3 game at halftime, 14-3 into the fourth quarter.
01:01But Texas A&M has held their last two teams, Auburn and Mississippi State.
01:06They've held them to 1-23 on third downs.
01:08They are getting teams off the field.
01:11And then what they did, they just gradually added points, added points, added points.
01:15And I said this earlier, I think maybe Texas A&M may be one of the most complete teams in the country,
01:21definitely in the SEC, because of the weapons they have on offense with two receivers, Concepcion and Craver,
01:29and then two good running backs, of course, Le'Veon Moss, and a quarterback that's a dual threat.
01:34These guys can do it on offense, but when they don't put a lot of points up there,
01:39and this game they put them up there toward the end of the game, their defense can shut you down.
01:45They can, and I think that's the biggest question mark that we had,
01:48is that when they won games in the early part of the season,
01:51you can include that victory in South Bend against Notre Dame.
01:55Right.
01:55They were six and a half point dogs.
01:57They were only one and three against the number at that particular time.
02:00Their defense was still giving up yards.
02:02Their defense was still giving up points to lesser and more inferior opponents, right?
02:08Now against Auburn, a blue collar team, they hold that offense in Jackson Arnold to your point of 10 points.
02:14This was a red hat Mississippi offense led by Blake Chapin.
02:18To hold them to nine points, and to your point, to have one of 23 on third down conversions is a phenomenal effort.
02:25If they could continue to play like that against D.J. Lagway in Florida this week, but big picture,
02:31maybe if they do match up against Alabama, they could go toe-to-toe with anybody now in the conference,
02:38and that includes Georgia and some of the likes of potentially LSU.
02:43Whoever's going to be in their way, they could step up.
02:45Well, and that was the point I was trying to make.
02:48When they have to score offensively, they've got the weapons to do it.
02:52And when they have to shut you down defensively, they've shown that they can do it.
02:56They've got the strength to play out there on both sides of the football.
02:59We haven't seen that from some of the teams that were supposed to be good.
03:03That's why Texas A&M now is slowly creeping up to one of those odds in the SEC.
03:09They're getting closer to those top three teams for chances to win the conference championship.
