00:00U.S. President Donald Trump says he is prepared to invoke the Insurrection Act, if needed,

00:06to restore law and order in U.S. cities run by Democrats who refuse his deployment of National Guard troops.

00:13The move comes after a judge temporarily blocked the Trump deployment in Portland,

00:17inspiring Illinois and Chicago to follow suit and file legal challenges.

00:23Illinois' Democrat Governor J.B. Pritzker says his state's lawsuit seeks to fight back against what he called

00:28Trump's declared war on Chicago.

00:32Speaking to reporters at the Oval Office, the U.S. President highlighted the need to restore stability to these cities,

00:39which he says have become infested with crime.

00:42Trump added that his administration will resort to the rarely used Insurrection Act as a last-ditch effort

00:48if courts and lawmakers continue to block and delay his plans.

00:52The Insurrection Act is a law passed in 1807,

00:55which allows the incumbent president to mobilize U.S. military

00:59to carry out civilian law enforcement duties under certain conditions.

01:04It was last used back in 1992 by former President George H.W. Bush

01:09to suppress the deadly Los Angeles riots.

01:12Trump says he's committed to, quote,
