00:00And where are we?
00:02At Shawbury. At the bakery.
00:04Fab, thank you very much. How long have you lived here today?
00:07I've lived here on and off. I would probably say about 13 years.
00:12I moved to Chesbury for a little while and then came back here once I had kids.
00:16So that we could be closer to family and being like a slightly quieter place as well.
00:21So yeah, it's around 13-ish years.
00:24And is that kind of one of the things that attracted you to Shawbury, the quietness of it?
00:28Well, to begin with, it's because we have family around here and my work was here.
00:33But then they've moved away now. And I still work here, obviously.
00:37But our kids have really gelled well into their school environment, the people they've met.
00:43So it means that there's a really nice community around it.
00:47So yeah, we ended up coming back because we like it.
00:50Because it's just a nice place to be and you sort of know everybody, I suppose.
00:54Yeah.
00:55And it's that nice sort of in-between, isn't it?
00:57Because you're quite close to Chesbury, quite close to Chelsea.
00:59Yes, definitely.
01:00But you're on the edge of North Shropshire.
01:01Yeah, you get the benefit of having everything within around a 20-minute drive without feeling like you're...
01:08Because I know when I was living in Chesbury, and I love Chesbury,
01:11but I know you definitely struggle a little bit with like people coming home late,
01:16stuff like that, people coming out from drinking.
01:18And it's not somewhere I would have wanted to have my kids necessarily.
01:23But round here, you don't tend to find that so much.
01:26It's nice.
01:27You sort of know what's going on and there's always like little things for them to be getting on with,
01:31things like that.
01:32So it is nice.
01:33You can rely on it a bit more.
01:34And the people?
01:35The people?
01:36The people, lovely.
01:37Really lovely.
01:38We get so many customers in and every day we like actively stop and we're like,
01:43oh, we've had some really nice customers today.
01:45And I think that's always so nice.
01:47We get so many regulars and like because I've been here eight years now,
01:52and seeing people come and go, like the regulars we get from the village,
01:57it always makes it so worth it seeing how nice the people that we have round here too.
02:02So yeah, they are really lovely.
02:04How long have you lived near Shawbury, Molly?
02:07Erm, 14 years.
02:09What brought you here and where did you come from?
02:12I originally grew up in Southropshire.
02:16My father was a shepherd.
02:19So we lived near Church Stretton.
02:22Moved over here when I was 11.
02:25Went to Telford schools, etc.
02:28So we lived around here, Ligonbury, when the kids were little.
02:32They're grown up now.
02:34They've got grandchildren now.
02:36And they've got ponies, so we're looking after them.
02:38That's where I'm on to next.
02:39He's got the farrier coming.
02:41How would you feel about the location compared to South Stropshire?
02:45You've converted to North Stropshire here.
02:48Yes.
02:49Who's winning?
02:50I always love to go back to South Stropshire.
02:53Going up on the Longwind and spending time up there where I spent a lot of time with my dad.
02:57When we were fetching baby lambs in and hauling sheep and things.
03:01But, you know, it's quite a way to go to anywhere, isn't he?
03:06Bishop's Castle's lovely.
03:07That was where we went shopping.
03:09But it hasn't got the facilities, you know.
03:12But it's lovely to go and spend time there and I do try and spend quite a bit of time there.
03:16Yeah.
03:17And you were just telling us how great the Chippy is.
03:20Yeah, Chippy's brilliant.
03:21And the facilities in Shawbury, that's something you...
03:27Yeah.
03:28So my grandchildren, both of them did go to Shawbury Primary School, St Mary's.
03:34But one has just gone up to senior school.
03:36She's gone to Adams School in Wem.
03:39So I've still got my granddaughter here.
03:42So the doctors is brilliant.
03:44It's where I've been this morning to give some blood.
03:46And there wasn't anything wrong with me.
03:48But they rang and said, it's time we checked you over at your age.
03:52So that is a lovely service.
03:54I haven't even had to ring, you know.
03:56They've booked me in and done that.
03:57So, yeah, no, it's lovely.
03:59And the people here in the kind of Shawbury and the wider area, friendly?
04:03Yes, Derry, yeah.
04:04Because you've got RAF Shawbury.
04:06So the children, the grandchildren have found that they just make friends.
04:10And then, of course, the mum and dad are either whichever one's in the RAF or both in some cases.
04:15And the children have moved on to other places, you know, gone even abroad.
04:19So they've lost their friends and that's to make new friends.
04:21But, yeah, no, everybody's lovely and friendly.
04:24I don't know how close to my health.
04:38Thanks for taking care of them.
