Wyle Cop, Shrewsbury has been named as Britain's Best high street. The Shropshire Star talk to shoppers and businesses to get their views on the honour.

00:06shopping street has been named the best in the country and we're here to find out whether it

00:11deserves that reputation from local businesses and local people so let's go. So do you shop in

00:17Wyalkop often? Sometimes, yeah not very often I don't but I have been in the shops. Do you think

00:26it deserves its reputation as the best place in the country? Yes I do. Is there anything that can

00:31be done to improve it do you think? I don't think so it should be left how it is because it just

00:36when you walk down here it's just like old and out, Shrewsbury used to be and it hasn't changed

00:44much I don't think. It's all independent shops as well isn't it? It is yeah so they need the

00:51custom as well so yeah I like it how it is. Do you think it deserves its reputation? Yes I do.

00:58Why? It's just so nice I mean the shops are so vibrant and so different you've got a bit of

01:06everything isn't you? Absolutely. Are you shopping here at Christmas do you think? Yes that's what

01:11I'm looking for now. Excellent well I hope you have a great shopping experience. I always park

01:18down the bottom and walk up here and pop into all of the shops. Oh do you really? Yeah. That's

01:23fantastic just to keep them going. Yeah keep popping in as soon as there's anything I fancy.

01:29Do you think anything can be done to improve Wildcat?

01:34Not really I can't think of anything. So keep it the same don't you? Yeah I think so

01:41because there is quite an eclectic mix isn't there? Absolutely. So I think you know we've got

01:46everything we need here really. I'm Nicola and I work at the toy box in Shrewsbury. So ideal time

01:52just before Christmas then? Yes very very busy. Do you know that Wildcats have been named the

01:57best high street in the country? We do yes. Does it deserve that reputation? Absolutely it does it's

02:04the best street in Shrewsbury that's for sure. Fantastic and what makes it so good? All of the

02:09independent shops here yeah there's fabulous shops down here. And is there anything that can be done

02:14to make it better? Let's bring more in yeah more shops more shops more independent shops yeah.

02:20There's a few empty buildings. There is a few empty ones yeah let's bring some more independent

02:24shops in. Come on estate agents. Yeah exactly yes yeah absolutely. So on your shelves then you've

02:30got lots of goodies. We do. What's the top selling toy do you think at the moment? Oh my goodness

02:37we are we sell lots of wooden toys here. Gosh the best selling one it's hard to say there's so many.

02:47Mayleg are one of our favourites here and we're very we're very they're very popular

02:54and they're always big sellers. So come on folks you want any Christmas present here?

02:59Oh yeah there's so there's so many so many things to pick here yes. And this of course isn't the

03:03only shop in Wild Cops though. No there's lots here lots lots of lovely places to find Christmas

03:09gifts. I think it's excellent news for Shrewsbury. I think it's a perfect write-up that the town

03:15needed yeah good news all round. Absolutely and what makes Wild Cops so good? The individual shops

03:21and the independent shops independent shops yeah and that's something you don't get every in any

03:26other town so that's why it's important. And could anything be done to make it better?

03:30No. Yes it is. Exactly yes. Lovely.
