Bengal Betrays Women — the phrase that now echoes across India’s conscience. Once the land of Tagore and Durga, West Bengal has become a graveyard of women’s safety under Mamata Banerjee’s Trinamool Congress. The NCRB data paints a chilling reality: over 34,738 crimes against women, Rape cases crossing 4,000 by mid-2024, and conviction rates falling to a shocking 17%. From the brutal RG Kar Medical College case to the Sandeshkhali horror and trafficking in Kolkata, the stories reveal a pattern of crime, cover-up, and political protection.
Doctors, law students, and common women- all have suffered under a system where the powerful walk free. Bengal Betrays Women isn’t just a report - it’s a question of conscience. Will Bengal demand justice, or will silence continue to reign under the Trinamool’s shadow?

00:00In the land once called the cradle of India's renaissance, where Tagore's words inspired freedom and Durga symbolized strength,
00:07West Bengal today carries a darker title, a state where women are unsafe.
00:13Under 13 years of Mamata Banerjee's Trinamul Congress, Bengal has descended into fear, impunity and betrayal of its daughters.
00:22The numbers don't lie.
00:23According to the National Crime Records Bureau, 2022, Bengal registered 34,738 crimes against women, placing it among the highest in India.
00:36That's 71.8 incidents per 100,000 women, higher than the national average of 66.4.
00:44Rape cases alone exceeded 3,000 in Bengal out of India's 31,516.
00:50And preliminary data shows 2023 witnessed a 15.3% rise in crimes against women.
00:59By mid-2024, over 4,000 rapes and assaults were already fired.
01:05Experts estimate that by the end of 2025, total crimes against women could cross 40,000 cases, a shocking 20% jump from just 3 years ago.
01:17And yet, conviction rates remain at a pathetic 17%.
01:23In other words, 8 out of 10 accused in Bengal walk free, free because of political patronage and systemic rot.
01:32August 20, 24, R.G. Kerr Medical College in Kolkata became a crime scene.
01:38A 31-year-old woman doctor, raped, brutalized, murdered.
01:43Bite marks, fractures, strangulation, the cruelty was unspeakable.
01:48But the real horror, the cover-up.
01:51The FIR was delayed for 12 hours.
01:54Evidence, evidence tampered.
01:57Crime scene sanitized.
01:59Why?
02:00Because college principal Sandeer Ghosh, linked to Srinamul, allegedly ordered it.
02:07His wife was even a TMC candidate.
02:09This wasn't just a crime, it was a political cover-up.
02:13Doctors went on strike for 40 days.
02:16The Calcutta High Court had to transfer the case to CBI.
02:19Yet, even after the conviction of one accused, survivors' families alleged multiple attackers shielded by the state.
02:29They killed her twice.
02:30Once with hands, once with silence, her father said.
02:3510 months later, June 2025, South Calcutta Law College,
02:39a 24-year-old student, gang-raped by members of TMC's student wing,
02:45Trinamul Chhatra Parishad.
02:47She was beaten with a hockey stick,
02:51threatened with leaked videos,
02:53and what was the response?
02:56TMC leaders mocked her.
02:58One MLA said,
03:00if she hadn't gone to class at night, this wouldn't have happened.
03:05This is the mindset ruling we call today.
03:09In Sandesh Khalil,
03:11women accused TMC strongman Sheikh Shah Jahan
03:14of systematic rapes and landcrafts.
03:16Over 200 complaints,
03:19detail abductions,
03:20torture,
03:21trafficking.
03:23For 55 days,
03:24Shah Jahan evaded arrest.
03:27Victims were forced to retract statements under threats.
03:31Even Amnesty International noted that 500 families were displaced.
03:36The High Court,
03:38the Supreme Court,
03:39both had to intervene.
03:42Still,
03:43TNC leaders dismissed it all as BJP fabrications.
03:48Imagine the audacity branding survivors as liars while shielding rapists.
03:54September 2025,
03:56nine minor girls,
03:58aged 12 to 17,
04:01rescued from a brothel in Kolkata,
04:03sold for as little as 5,000 rupees each.
04:07NCRB data shows,
04:09Bengal recorded 1,261 human trafficking cases in 2022,
04:15third highest in India,
04:17up 25% from the year before.
04:21Many miners,
04:23many linked to TMC's Katwani rackets.
04:26Survivors told reporters,
04:28they said,
04:29no one would help us.
04:31Didi's men run this.
04:34And just days ago,
04:35in September 2025,
04:37Panskura,
04:38super speciality hospital manager,
04:40allegedly TMC linked,
04:43was arrested for serially raping women staff for over a year.
04:48Complaints?
04:49Ignore.
04:50FIRs?
04:52Buried.
04:53Arrest?
04:53Only after media exposure.
04:56This is the cycle.
04:58Rape.
04:58Cover up.
05:00Intimidation.
05:02From Murshidabad to Dinhata,
05:05North 24 Parganas to Purb Medinipur,
05:08the story is the same.
05:11Riots,
05:12abductions,
05:13assaults,
05:14dowry debts,
05:15conviction rates barely touching 10 to 15%.
05:18A 2024 study by the Indian Institute for Human Settlements
05:22gave Bengal a women's risk index of 8.2 out of 10.
05:27The worst in Eastern India.
05:30And only 30% of assaults are even reported.
05:34The rest silenced through threats and intimidation.
05:38From the doctor at Arjikar to the law student in Kasbah to the women of Sandesh Khali and the miners trafficked in Kolkata,
05:48each story is a scar on Bengal's soul.
05:52And the culprit is not just the predator,
05:55but a government that shields them.
05:59A state where conviction is rare,
06:02intimidation is routine,
06:04and women's dignity is traded for political survival.
06:09Mamata Banerjee promised to be Bengal's didi.
06:11Instead,
06:13her regime has turned Bengal into a graveyard of women's safety.
06:18With the elections in 2026,
06:20the question is simple.
06:23Will Bengal choose impunity or will it demand dawn?
06:27For the women of Bengal,
06:29justice delayed is justice denied,
06:31and their cries can no longer be silenced.
06:35For the women of Bengal,
06:36the women of Bengal,
06:37the women of Bengal,
06:38the women of Bengal,
