00:00Well, we recap that record-breaking heat from Saturday and a look at some
00:03seasonable weather, but more warmth is on the way for the weekend.
00:17Just incredible heat on Saturday. A lot of 90s across the whole southern half of Minnesota.
00:2391 in the Twin Cities. It was a high temperature and we were definitely not alone in that scenario.
00:2993 was the hot spot St. James. 26 plus locations reached 90 degrees and at least
00:36more than two dozen records broken. It might be as high as 70 records that were broken.
00:41Hottest October weekend on record as well. 152 years of records in the Twin Cities.
00:47Again, 91 was our high. That breaks the daily record. Second hottest ever October temperature.
00:53The number one spot was just two years ago. And only the fourth time we've ever hit 90 degrees
00:58in October. Three out of those four times are all just in the last 28 years. A very clear climate
01:04trend and it's the latest we've ever been this hot. 91 degrees or hotter in a season. And a far cry from
01:11that this morning. Many areas were 40 to 50 degrees cooler than 38 hours prior. So a lot of 30s in
01:18northern Minnesota, but even parts of southwestern Minnesota dipped into the 30s. We've got this
01:21upper level trough, that cool air, that cold front pushing the heat dome to the east now.
01:26And we do still have some clouds kind of lingering. This cool high pressure is building in. We'll have
01:31sunnier skies tomorrow and Wednesday, but today's still kind of a mix of clouds and sun close to
01:35that front, which is off to our southeast, which will produce some showers even into southeastern
01:39Minnesota still today. Not in the Twin Cities, but places along I-90 and maybe up to Rochester
01:45could have a few showers this afternoon. And we probably will see a little more cloud cover drift in
01:50from that front here in the metro area. But it's going to be a pretty chilly couple of nights here
01:55too. So low to mid-60s for highs across southern Minnesota. This is actually about where we should
01:58be. Normal high is 64. We're going to be close to that. 50s to the north. And then temperatures
02:03tonight, widespread 30s to the north. Probably frosty in northwestern Minnesota. 40s for southern
02:08Minnesota. But that's only about the seventh time we've been in the 40s so far this season. We should
02:13have about double that number at this point. No surprise with the very warm September and October
02:18so far. Another cool one tomorrow. And tomorrow night will be our coldest night of the season
02:22so far for many areas, especially northeastern Minnesota. I think the Iron Range will be in
02:27the mid to upper 20s. A hard freeze there. The coldest hibbing has been is 29 so far. I think
02:32they're going to outdo that by a few degrees. No danger of frost in the metro and not a lot of rain.
02:37A weak disturbance comes through Thursday night. Maybe a few showers. And then again later Sunday
02:42as the next cool front comes through, we could see maybe a more widespread area of showers. And you
02:47can see some blue there. Snow showers into Manitoba. Not that far away from us. So cool conditions
02:53today and tomorrow. That's going to be really it. Already Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, we're back to
02:58above normal temperatures. And in fact, by the weekend, back to anomalous warmth here. Not record
03:02breaking, but we're talking mid-70s. That's about 15 degrees above average and only 10 degrees from the
03:08record high, which is in the mid-80s. So mid to even upper 70s. I think we could see an 80 pop up in
03:15southwestern Minnesota. And overall, over the next 10 days, blue numbers are the forecast highs and
03:20orange are the normal lows. The only day really close to it is today and tomorrow. And then we're
03:25back to above normal temperatures right into next week. Because next week, low to mid-60s, that's
03:30above normal. That normal high slips into the 50s by then. And for the rest of October, high odds of
03:36above normal temperatures. Not really surprising there, considering we've banked so much heat already in
03:42the first week of October. 63 today. Again, close to normal. 66 tomorrow. Lots of sunshine tomorrow
03:49and Wednesday. Clouds increase Thursday, but it'll be warmer near 70. Again, we could have a couple of
03:54isolated showers late in the day and overnight. Friday and Saturday, back into sunny skies, mid-70s.
03:59Beautiful. Sunday, clouds increase again. That next cool front could touch off the next chance of
04:04some showers, but not a whole lot of rain around here. Yesterday's shower activity probably is the most
04:09significant that we'll see here in these next several days.
