00:00Well, we have near record-breaking heat on the way for today and tomorrow,
00:03followed by some much cooler air.
00:05Finally, seasonable temperatures next week, but not a whole lot of rainfall on the way.
00:19So it's already warm out there.
00:21Morning temperatures were actually above normal highs for this time of year,
00:25and we are on the warm side of things here with a very slow-moving cool front
00:29off to the west.
00:30And that front will eventually get here Sunday night,
00:33and it's going to create a lot of wind, too, here over the next couple of days.
00:36We're going to see that pressure gradient tighten up as that front squeezes the atmosphere here,
00:40quite literally, especially tomorrow and Sunday.
00:43We're going to see some pretty strong winds.
00:44The heat dome is in place across the central U.S.
00:48Crazy to be talking about this in early October.
00:50You can see that big trough, though, in the west, that upper-level trough,
00:53will slowly dig in and push that heat off to the east
00:57and bring us some more seasonable temperatures.
00:59Certainly not today, though.
01:00Low 90s across southwestern, south-central Minnesota,
01:03probably upper 80s in the Twin Cities.
01:04Record high today, 90.
01:06I think we'll be just shy of that, but close to tomorrow's record, which is 89.
01:11And again, several low 90s, again,
01:13across much of central southern Minnesota for Saturday.
01:16And this is Climate Central's climate attribution,
01:19their climate shift index.
01:20And it's showing four across much of central Minnesota, including the Twin Cities,
01:25which means that tomorrow's temperatures forecast highs made four times more likely due to climate change,
01:31the warming we've seen in fall in the recent decades.
01:34And it's going to be a little muggy, too, actually.
01:36Normally, when we get very warm temperatures in October, it's pretty dry.
01:39But today and tomorrow, dew points will actually be in the low 60s.
01:42Not summer oppressive humidity, but a little stickiness out there.
01:46Those dew points should drop, though, for Sunday morning.
01:47But look at these winds tomorrow, 15 to 30 mile an hour sustained wind speeds.
01:52Gusts are going to be even higher, especially across southwestern Minnesota.
01:56I think we'll see 40 to 50 mile per hour wind gusts Saturday.
01:59So definitely very windy out of the south.
02:02And then those winds will be switching Sunday night as that cooler front comes through.
02:05But we're on the warm side of things.
02:08Heat blast here today and tomorrow.
02:10And even Sunday, we're still going to be in the 80s.
02:12But cooler air finally moves in Sunday night, most of next week.
02:16More seasonable temperatures, but actually still a little bit above normal many days next week.
02:22And it looks as though this front is not going to deliver much in the way of rainfall for us in southern Minnesota.
02:26Showers mostly to the north.
02:28And then late Sunday showers will reignite ahead of the front to our southeast.
02:32So kind of sandwiched in between any real rainfall here.
02:35But up to an inch plus of rain in northwestern Minnesota.
02:39Largely getting mist here in the Twin Cities, but maybe some hopeful rain.
02:42Maybe a tenth or two tenths of an inch of rain in southeastern Minnesota into western Wisconsin from that late Sunday activity.
02:49And if you're running the Twin Cities Marathon, it is going to be a warm one.
02:5170 degrees to start.
02:53Most of the race will be in the 70s.
02:54And by mid-afternoon, we're going to see highs in the low to mid-80s again.
02:58So plenty warm out there.
03:00And then look at Monday.
03:01That's the weather you wish you had for the marathon.
03:0340s in the morning and 60s in the afternoon.
03:06And our coolest night yet so far this season for many.
03:09It looks like we're going to see temperatures in the 40s to near 40 across southern Minnesota.
03:12Lots of frost, I think, in central and northern Minnesota Tuesday night into early Wednesday morning.
03:17So there are going to be places that go from 90 degrees Saturday to the freezing mark by early Wednesday morning.
03:23Pretty incredible.
03:24So today and tomorrow, close to record high temperatures.
03:27Plenty of sunshine.
03:28We'll see a few clouds drifting this afternoon.
03:31Sunday, chance of a shower late in the day.
03:33But again, most of that activity looks to stay to our north and to our southeast.
03:37Plenty of wind to contend with this weekend.
03:39And then those temperatures next week, again, still a couple degrees above normal.
03:43Normal highs in the low to mid-60s.
03:44And we're still going to be a few degrees above that.
03:46In fact, by Thursday, we're back to near 70.
03:49And some models warm us up even more again by potentially next weekend.
03:54So if you're looking for consistent, chilly fall weather, we don't quite have it just yet.
