Ground breaking ceremony for Tipner West housing site
Transcript
00:00Hi, I'm Steve Kripp, Managing Director of PMC Construction, and today we're on Victory Key,
00:06which is formerly Tipner East. So it's a groundbreaking ceremony today, so we're
00:11underway with foundations, and our first phase to build 183 units, of which there are 835 in total.
00:19Phase one, which is the first 183, is around 30 to 32 months, and the other phases will be
00:27introduced thereafter. I would expect it to be around seven to eight years. So we've been working
00:32here for about two and a half years, remediating and putting seawalls in, but for me personally,
00:38I've been involved in Tipner East for nearly 10 years. Fortunately, we've now got it into a position
00:45where it will deliver the affordable homes of Portsmouth needs. People see the frames of Blocks
00:50G and F coming up probably early next year, and by March, people then see the timber frames. By the
00:56summer, you should be able to see all 183 units stood up in their calls. So the seawall is a
01:03continuation of the Lido seawall that comes around, and it'll provide the same river walk and cycleway
01:09that's enjoyed from the north of the city, and then joins up eventually, hopefully, where we've
01:16tipped the west. But that won't be open in its entirety until all the phases that they've delivered.
01:21Over to the west here, just in this area, we've got a bird conservation platform, and that's mainly
01:28derived from, we've took out the greyhound track, and that used to be a habitat area for the birds,
01:33and we've sort of lost a few minor areas around the scheme, so we've agreed with the Hila White Nature
01:41Trust to build this conservation area here. That will be delivered in March, April, May of next year.
02:02We're here.
