Neil Allen's full-time verdict on Pompey's 1-0 win over Middlesbrough.

00:33ringing around the ground fantastic wasn't it? Yet again we've seen these so many times over

00:39years in these games where Pompey go into matches as the underdogs and they win and they did it today

00:47against Middlesbrough. Middlesbrough started the day top of the league unbeaten. They've ended the day

00:54knocked off by Coventry but also losing 1-0 with Fratton Park. Last season, we'll just take

01:00it as an example last season, Leeds lost here, Burnley drew here, Sheffield United drew here,

01:07Middlesbrough lost here, it's just Fratton Park and he's at his best going to games with the underdogs

01:14aren't they? And Pompey find a win and they dug in today didn't they? They really, they got the goal

01:21and they didn't try to defend but they ended up defending didn't they? And they defended magnificently

01:28as a team. The way they handled the penalty area, Bursting barely had a save to make, actually

01:34probably didn't have a save to make. He had to claim the ball at times and then deal with it but

01:38it was a real team effort, everybody obviously driven by Marlon Pack and it's great seeing back

01:44in the team and Integra are part of the team now as well but it was a real proper Pompey performance.

01:51All those Premier League years as well when so many teams came here and couldn't win, Man United lost

01:56here didn't they? And all that lot and it was just what Fratton Park does and again we saw it

02:02today, Middlesbrough came here, many were expecting them to win, I suppose Pompey fans were as well,

02:08no issue there but Pompey stood firm, Yang got the goal and Pompey then defended it very very well.

02:18Middlesbrough, they can't have any complaints, they didn't create enough. I've not heard their

02:22manager's quotes but they probably deserved it. Pompey scored the goal and then they defended

02:28extremely well. I'll just give you an example actually, in the 95th minute, Bishop laid the ball

02:37down the line, overhitted slightly to Conor Ogilvie and Conor Ogilvie just steamed down the left flank

02:44trying to get that ball back. In the 95th minute you're left back and that summed up Pompey really.

02:49Terry Devlin, what an impact he made as well when he came on the pitch, just hair and charging down

02:54that right flank as well and that's what Pompey were today, a proper proper team and it was a nice

03:00moment speaking to Conor Chaplin afterwards and he said how special it was, he's got his absolute

03:08class to hear that frat and roar again of a Pompey win at home. He's not had that since 2018, wow.

03:16And it was, it was just great atmosphere, probably so much to like about today, proper team performance

03:22as well. We know how bad they were against Sheffield Wednesday, we all talked about how bad they were

03:26against Sheffield Wednesday, nobody can dispute that. Watford was an improvement but today was a different

03:33side there. Defensively, Josh Knight, Regan, Paul, outstanding. They all were so much to like

03:38about Pompey today and it was just proper Pompey, that's all I can say really. I'm not disparaging

03:46but that's what Pompey do again as an underdog, really revel in these sort of games. And Sunderland

03:54again, sorry, Middlesbrough, sorry, Middlesbrough again found this struggle here, didn't they?

04:00So yeah, and just to say a few words about Yang actually. This time last week, even before this

04:08time last week, people were hammering him. I saw people, I said this at half-time and I'll say again,

04:12sorry, but I saw people saying send him back to Spurs and all sorts. He's settled in now and it was

04:16another outstanding performance. I made him man the match. Outstanding performance from him.

04:21He narrowly shaded it from Regan Paul because Pompey was defensively asked a lot of questions.

04:28But Yang again, what a display from him. He's settled into it now. His energy, lovely finish

04:36as well from an incredible cross from Jordan Williams on the run, volleyed cross when it looked

04:42like it was going out. And Yang, great technique, finished it first time, half volley again with

04:47his right foot. And it's, and it's one nil. And it's just the, the energy you've got, it's just,

04:51just, just, just phenomenal. Tracks back, um, a constant menace, completely different players

04:57we saw at Reading here. Um, so, and it's great to see him settling in now. Uh, Josh Hu there on the,
