00:00Sabah Progressive Party, which quit the ruling Gabongan Rakyat Sabah this week,
00:05risked being wiped out at the upcoming state election
00:08should it choose to contest in Chinese majority constituencies, an analyst said.
00:14James Chin of the University of Tasmania cited the party's performance in the last election to support his claim.
00:21Chin said he expects SAPP to collaborate with party solidarity Tana Ayurku,
00:26which also exited GRS, adding that Star President Jeffrey Kitingan
00:31is planning to form a coalition of local parties ahead of the next state election.
00:37O. A. Sun of the Malaysian Pacific Research Centre said,
00:40now that SAPP is no longer part of GRS, it is free to contest in any seat it chooses,
00:47a factor that may have played a major role in its decision to leave the ruling coalition.
00:53He said that had the party remained in GRS,
00:56it would have had to settle for a limited number of seats
00:59and possibly contest constituencies that were not in its favour.
