00:0030 minutes plus two laps this first race is mxgp riders and mx2 so each country has two riders
00:06one on mxgp one in mx2 and of course uh one of the lawrences is going to be in a favorite position
00:12the other one not so but the gate about to drop here the charge down to the start straight
00:16kyroni on the inside gate number four but over here from the middle of the box jet lawrence can
00:20he get across he's going to have to sweep the long way around on that number one but it's lucas
00:24kunan of belgium who's up the inside riders down on the exit of the turn it was a lot of green gold
00:28it looked like in the on the first turn to maybe webster down kenny roxton down coming out of that
00:35second corner he gets hit as well so the drama the chaos that we expect to you know the unexpected
00:41that you kind of learn to expect already happening here roxton picking himself up josh gilbert down
00:46there as well for team great britain so not a good start for germany or great britain and maybe there
00:50was even a uh green and gold in the in the first quarter to say maybe hunter or we're not sure not
00:55hunter webster webster uh and i see the four of eli tomac up there so uh you know usa getting ready to
01:02you know get crazy jet they don't want to let this happen i think jet will uh again i think it's a
01:07race that you you've got to go after jet but i think that sometimes you know he's a step above
01:11this weekend jet lawrence sweeps around the outside of lucas kun and at the first available opportunity
01:17seaman langenfelder of germany also down at the first turn holding a left shoulder left collarbone
01:22and with kenny roxton going down at the first turn that is pretty much germany done and dusted i would
01:26imagine from there because it's not going to be easy to come through and even if you do get a good
01:29result from the look of seaman langenfelder holding that arm that is uh he probably will not be lining
01:35up for that second race and that is germany's chances done and dusted there's the jump that you
01:39were talking about with the lawrence brothers both being the only two doing it and uh jet setting the pace
01:43right now jet lawrence on a charge then just trying to distance himself i was down by australia during
01:52the break and he said uh it's uh gonna go down to coin the phrase with a few more choice words in
01:58there so he was up for the fight right away from uh the first lap of free practice warm-up this morning
02:03you know and i think as fans of the sport like this is what you want you know you've got lucas kunin and
02:07tim geyser in second uh you know both not really getting to see jet yesterday uh and today they
02:14really get to see it there's no excuses they're right there in front they can see and learn from
02:18what what jet's doing and we'll see if uh we get to see the best guys in the world battle roman
02:23favre launching past eli tomac coming out of the final turn he hit the monster energy finish line
02:27double as he moves in to that fourth place tomac over the united states down to fifth position
02:34great start for the new world champion in mxgp roman favre he's definitely going to be bringing
02:39his uh a game this weekend he wants to now that that the shackles of the world championship have
02:43done a dustin yeah now he gets to unleash this guy's teammate p12 uh so france always being a solid team
02:48and making it work so uh keep an eye on that this section's really slippery for uh the tvd doesn't
02:57show that but you see these guys fighting back there you know for our older generation people that
03:02remember namur uh it's it's very much like that really hard packed loose you can see the full
03:08leaves starting to you know fall there and the difference is like this part of the racetrack
03:13there you're probably in the shade for about 20 seconds you're out in the daylight for about 20
03:17seconds on a three minute lap at namur that's the difference you are fighting those casting shadows
03:21on a bright sunny day with the tree roots the rocks the hard slick off campers and trees as well
03:27let's not forget the trees the trees the drop-offs the blind drop on the pub the walls the pavement
03:33all the things yeah the cobbled streets anyway uh jet lawrence leads he's got about a two and a
03:38half second over lucas kunin so it's australia leading the way from belgium from slovenia's tim
03:41geyser fever and francis for tomac the usa in five and then look at that a second belgium in there
03:47in sixth position sasha kunin the first of the mx2 riders in sixth place the next one is in tenth and
03:52that is kai de wolf and he's got valand and justin cooper of the united states behind him so
03:5610 11 12 three more mx2 riders and if you were to put the flag out now this being the end of the
04:02race belgium have a uh what eight points france on 16 usa of 19 and then the republic of south
04:08africa and spain both on 30 points each but that will all change come the first lap of race three
04:14later on today yeah no it's going to be uh it's going to be a long day and we'll be watching that box of
04:19you know all the different nations and jumping around i think it's underestimated
04:23how important a really solid uh 250 you know rider is i think uh sasha doing a great job getting a good
04:30start um and yeah giving two guys in the top six is awesome yeah well team belgium haven't won this
04:36thing since uh 2012 uh 2013 when it was in belgium and they've not been on the podium since 2019
04:43at asin in the netherlands so that's a long time for belgium the established the uh you know the team
04:48that's right up there in the top three in the all-time win list so for them to be leading at
04:54this stage at the moment with two twin brothers jet lawrence in uh sorry lucas coonan in the second
04:59and sasha coonan in sixth place with the lowest score as it stands right now that uh is a good
05:04start for belgium to say the least yeah you want to you want to obviously you know obviously get off
05:08on the right foot and that's what is important uh you know you look here at the eighth um you know
05:14kai de wolf is is racing for pride at this point you know it's the end of the year uh he unfortunately
05:19doesn't have a backup teammate in this particular race uh so he'll have it you know the netherlands
05:24will not have an overall score um so he's just out there for pride and racing for his uh orange colors
05:30yeah so many respects there there's no pressure on him now it's just like i say for personal pride
05:35but with uh still plenty of time to go 24 and a half minutes uh in terms of the overall classification
05:40belgium on top with france usa spain and australia in fifth
05:43so australia down in fifth place we saw simon langenfeld picking himself up after that fall in
06:01turn one to the outside maybe might have been webster now up in the 20
06:09so
06:14you
07:09Justin Cooper for the USA. He is in 11th place. He is the fourth MX2 rider. Of course, there's two kind of things up for grabs here, isn't there? You've got the nation's classification, then each group MXGP, MX2 open. The lowest scores from those overall, their overall scores will win the individual class. And so Cooper is going to be eyeing up that as well if he can, as well as trying to get the USA on the podium at the very least, obviously hoping to win it on home soil.
07:39How to make a great start from 35th gate pick yesterday, came out third in the race, in the qualifying race just to kind of give the USA that little bit of buoyancy because Eli was ninth in the first race.
07:58Obviously, RJ Hampshire, who we'll see in the next race, he chose to go inside gates with his 35th gate pick and got squeezed to the inside with the Spanish rider, Francesco Garcia. Eventually came home in, what, sixth place?
08:07So from that side, they had a bit of a taste of how to deal with that start. Hampshire was fourth, actually. The American finish with six points. But Jay Coop, a last minute call up. How would you have taken that?
08:23Get the call on Tuesday saying, guess what? Pack your bag. You're going to Crawfordsville.
08:37Well, we've had a significant change.
09:07because Sasha Coonan is down in 10th place now. So he's obviously fallen from six. Ruben Fernandes now six, gifting seven.
09:13So the first seven riders are MXGP riders. The first MX2 guy now is in eight, Kai DeWolf.
09:18Valand nine, Sasha Coonan ten, Jay Coop in 11th place. Here is Sasha Coonan.
09:23So one thing that everybody said is if he can stay on two wheels, he will be one of the dark horses, especially for Belgium.
09:28And that loss of those points brings everybody else into contention because what was a six point gap is now just two there on 12, France on 14.
09:37You see that mistake there coming out of that turn. And he just needs to contain his emotions here now, doesn't he? Keep them all in check.
09:42Keep them all in check.
09:49for the second half of this year we saw him being able to do that where he was getting his race wins
10:14and his GP wins and things like that but now I think First Nations trying to race for national pride
10:20you're there as the first MX2 guy maybe that sort of on off switch has just got a bit of a jam on it
10:25because he was all on until he was off and he needs to learn how to balance that kind of find
10:31the dimmer on it a little bit
10:44yeah definitely found another gear seven seconds clear of Lucas
11:14Coonan now and Kyder Wolf is up to seventh he's found his way past gifting
11:18as the lead MX2 rider here is number eight the 2024 MX2 world champion he's going after Ruben
11:27Fernandez now he's got that clear track ahead of him be interested to see how long it takes to close
11:31down Ruben Fernandez 250 versus 450 around here when it starts to break down Chad Reed is there
11:36much of an advantage being on a 450 or not when it starts to break down like this
11:40do the 450s uh love and eat that up so uh Roman Fevra here into that fifth place
12:09Fernandez sixth wolf seven gifting for land Coonan Cooper
12:13and then uh Jeremy Seewa for Switzerland in 12 Italy's Adamo in 13 McClellan 14
12:18Lopes for Brazil in 15 college racialist in 16 then Webster the Australian the last time we spoke
12:23about him until a moment ago he was down in 27 picking himself up off the deck at turn one when
12:27he just tipped over on the inside so uh he's trying to do his best to reduce that gap
12:31so they are now on 18 points Australia with a 1 and a 17
12:35I love this uh drones footage I think it's the one thing where fans you know we never used to have
12:42this but as a pass rider it gives you the understanding you see the racing lines you
12:47see where they're picking it you see the lines that they're drawing we're starting to see Eli pick
12:52it up and find his feet here and hopefully can get after Tim so Eli Tomac only a second and a half
12:58behind Tim Geiser we already saw Tim Geiser do great things at Masterly Basin last year when he
13:04did what many thought was unthinkable past jet not only to win the race but on what two corners to go
13:10at Masterly Basin to take what was a class win for Slovenia battle of personal pride between the two
13:15factory Honda HRC riders on both sides of the Atlantic but obviously Tim Geiser coming in now
13:21as a a rider that's only what five or six races back from his injury still trying to find his feet
13:28but he's uh not too far off if he's not there already I see Tim and uh and Eli as a really similar
13:34guys at this point you know different in age but um both guys that have had injury during the season
13:39and and coming back and finding their feet um both will be doing their last races for their current
13:44teams um so there's different different vibes and different things and you just see him you know
13:49fighting for national pride right now Mattis Vanat we can tell the difference between two French
13:55riders because one's got a visor and one doesn't but uh Roman Favre is uh behind Eli Tomac as well
14:01but that gap nine seconds for the Frenchman to make up with about ten and a half minutes plus two
14:06laps remaining here Vanat is now up into eight he's also found his way past gifting so we've got two
14:11MX2 riders in seventh and eighth Kai DeWolf and Mattis Vanat DeWolf of the Netherlands Vanat here
14:16for France France sitting in second in the overall classification one point behind Belgium at the
14:22moment and when you think of Sasha Kunin in tenth place the number 47 who was in sixth when he threw
14:29away that that position losing those four positions and four points how telling will that be come the
14:35final race of the day when Germany uh so when Belgium do make the podium or don't make the podium
14:41or win or don't win that's going to be the telling thing isn't it do we look to that race where that
14:47all fell apart really in the great scheme of things yeah we won't know until that third moto and that's
14:52what makes it fun for us as as fans sitting and calling the race but you just got to take each lap
14:56and and do your best and and again there's always a bigger picture you got to be clever you see Jet
15:01you know navigating some lapis you know the guy looks to his right Jets on his left um you just
15:07never know you know like there's a big uh difference in some cases obviously there's a big difference in
15:12Jet Lawrence in general uh but you know typically speaking a lot of the different countries they have
15:17different you know volumes of people and you gotta it's an interesting race uh to participate in and
15:22navigate and strategize um it's fun well the gap between Lawrence and Kunin down to four seconds at the
15:28moment because uh Lawrence putting in the 207.2 that time around to the 204.1 of Lucas Kunin
15:36so did he get held up in traffic was there a slight bobble somewhere for the number one
15:41but able to double double through turn 10 some riders not able to get that because it was breaking
15:46down so gnarly yesterday coming out of that turn you could barely get over the double from the inside
15:51but Jet Lawrence obviously finds a way to clear things and get things done see that over on the far
15:57side just after the GoPro step up left right liquid molly plateau just jumping around the turn looking
16:02so silky smooth Eli Tomac here has caught Tim Geiser but that gap not close enough at the moment to launch
16:10an attack but psychologically for Team USA and the fans out there watching this Tomac would love to get a
16:17top three finish just to sort of you know give everybody that little lift you know yeah we finished third
16:24first second or third fourth fifth yeah it's still great but I think you look at the the Australian
16:29dominance yesterday um and you know on paper you're like how are we going to beat Australia at this
16:34point uh then you come out here and you look at the points when when they when they drop the gates
16:39and it gives you hope I think you know as Team USA you go back to the pits and I agree with you
16:43I really believe that that Eli needs to go on on a tear here and pass Tim and try to get after Lucas
16:50um and do the best that he can and put himself in the best position for Team USA yeah because Kunin
16:55is uh eight and a half seconds clear of Geiser with Tomac another 1.5 1.6 seconds further back
17:01here's Roman Fevre he's in fifth place still 10 seconds behind Tomac now and Roman Fevre he knows
17:07what this event is all about he's got another race the final race of the day coming up later on
17:11MXGP and MX Open so with uh time ticking down less than 10 minutes plus two laps to go there's no
17:17point and blown himself out thinking I have to pass one more rider and it has to be Tomac that I have
17:23to pass you'll get an opportunity later on in the day not blown himself out smart riding in the greater
17:29scheme of things as it is only race one it's and I think it's just calculated risk you know racing is
17:35is that in general but you this event and there's three riders that you're you're relying on um you've
17:40got to go forward you've got to make passes but you also got to get to the finish and get the best
17:45position as possible so that you can you know narrow those uh points so Chet Lawrenson leading the
17:51way Australia currently fourth in the overall classification with his first and Carl Webster's
17:5717th USA are on 15 they're in third place with a fourth for Tomac and the 11th for Justin Cooper
18:06then we got France on 13 Belgium on 12 and Tim Geiser is in third on borrowed time with Tomac breathing down
18:14his neck and the majority of that lap that lot over there on the opposite bank you can hear them
18:18starting to get behind Tomac Captain America here as he looks to move into that third place
18:23fantastic atmosphere here in Iron Man you know I've been around Eli a few times this weekend my uh my
18:29kids are big Eli fans and uh as I am but um always super nice but he's just he seems really relaxed this
18:35weekend I think he's he's embracing his Captain America I think he's aware of his age and and place
18:42in the sport and it's it's just really fun for me to watch uh one of the greats of the sport you know
18:47being so comfortable and embracing uh such a special event
18:53I'm sure Geiser knows by now that Tomac is there behind him five world titles under his belt
18:58you will know how to deal with that kind of pressure with five and a half minutes to go but
19:05Tomac when he hits as they say beast mode can become a different animal all together this
19:10landing right here for everybody at home I promise you that is not comfortable doing that for 35 minutes
19:15yeah it's brutal so with uh five minutes to go Lawrence leads Coonan Geiser Tomac and Fevre but
19:22it's Belgium France Australia USA Australia and Spain the top five
19:34so less than five minutes plus two laps to go Eli Tomac has done a great job closing down
19:38Tim Geiser I'm sure if he's uh written in the US before I think they were available in uh as a team
19:44for Slovenia in 2018 or 2022 so even for him just to be here on American soil is something new something
19:51new for him and uh and again what I said earlier about the the guys it seems like
19:55Eli can get there and then whenever it comes you know getting alongside or trying to let's say set
20:01up for a pass uh it seems like it's just really difficult to to make that final uh you know get
20:08the job done really difficult talking of Slovenia they're currently eighth overall at the moment they
20:12finished seventh overall at Maxi Basin one year ago their best ever finished for a country of just two
20:17million people and uh they were hoping to uh do better than that today so with Tim Geiser currently
20:24circulating in third place and Jakub Pekele not so great for him in 36 that's 39 so we've already got
20:30big scores for like six seven and eight 36 for Switzerland's 37 Sweden uh 40 for team Slovenia
20:40you would expect those things to change in race two when it's open in mx2
20:45and you'd be hoping to throw away that big score of a 37 if you're Jakub Pekele in Slovenia
20:51so maybe it was just a technical issue who knows maybe it was a crash we don't know but hopefully
20:55he can line up the fact that he's down there in 37 isn't boding well anyway 37 is never good
21:00it's a lot of points getting closer Eli Tomac traffic getting closer as well
21:07as these riders near the end of the race guy set into the side of the back marker there as well
21:12through that final turn trying to rough him up and he doesn't get over the double Tomac does
21:18two bike like two bike lengths in it as they charge down past pit lane at the start of lap 13.
21:25I was thinking he was going to cut back to the right there but the line didn't allow it
21:30fans on their feet for Tomac
21:31this is the third position guys are looking nice and cool very Everts-esque through there
21:39up on the pegs the bulldog-like riding style of Eli Tomac just trying to boss that motorcycle through
21:45those deep ruts in that second and third turn I like what Tim did there he jumped down into that hole
21:50typically for our AMA national it's really soft and the guys kind of do that and it seems a lot harder
21:55this weekend so so watch this looks cool yeah guys that couldn't
22:09freeze back end lighting up catching an edge
22:13wish we had comms we could tell Eli what to do there
22:15I feel like he's going to the inside and he's given up the flow of the next turn
22:21and it costs him a little bit of time
22:31so Tim Geiser just getting a little bit of breathing space over Eli Tomac there in those last couple of
22:36corners as their battle for third continues with just under two minutes to go in this first MXGP MX2
22:43race a bit of a lucky escape there from the Slovenian at the top of the hill oh and two
22:48in two corners for Geiser just shows you how difficult the track is you know like we have one
22:54you know one vision of Jet Lawrence one riding one track and then these guys it just shows you how
22:59wet it is still there's a hard base loose stuff on top um these guys are on their toes at all times
23:05this section is also like you see the bike moving around a lot when you see the best guys in the world
23:09making it look difficult let me tell you it's uh it's really tough it's not easy being one of the
23:14best riders in the world either because you have to make it look so easy at all times uh just like
23:19the man leading the way Jet Lawrence does these are the two mistakes that we just saw from Tim Geiser
23:24a moment ago top of the hill coming out of the turn just got the wrong side of the rut there and
23:29it swapped across the back side and then this one here just landing in a soft patch
23:32that's his skill had to use all that upper body strength to uh keep it up on two wheels that's for
23:38sure but team Germany no score for Simon Langerfelder and uh Kenny Rockson in 21st place at the moment
23:47after he fell coming out of turn two into turn three at the start of the race when he caught a wet patch
23:55as well lost the front lost the back and from there Germany looks like their nations is done
24:02because Langerfelder holding his left shoulder left collarbone as he walked away from that first turn
24:07carnage it's actually good to see Kenny back into the first I last time you know the last pictures we've
24:13seen were him being ran over and we didn't we weren't sure what was going on if he was going to
24:17rejoin or not Ruben Fernandez here in six for team Spain and Sasha Kunin
24:21the number 47 still in 10th place but remember he was in sixth place when he fell as the lead MX2
24:28rider Belgium and France now tied at the top Belgium with a second and a tenth France with a fifth and a
24:35seventh USA on 15 with a fourth and 11th with uh Tomac and Justin Cooper Australia with a first and a
24:4316th they're just two points further back so I think really realistically we're looking at four teams
24:47even now even this far out at potentially winning this chamberlain trophy and one of them is going
24:52to be disappointed not to make the podium three of them well one not missing the podium but you
24:59you know everybody comes here I mean when you talk about Australia USA France and Belgium uh they're all
25:04three teams that are you know Australia's new to the winning side of it but uh you know they've got such a
25:10strong uh qualifying yesterday they they expect to win today two laps to go for Jet Lawrence
25:18there's the Slovenian MX2 rider there Jakub Pekalaj so he's still out there on track but down in 36th
25:24place at the moment just behind him is Dylan Walsh for team GB but he's three laps down
25:30and GB's other rider in 23rd place so Josh Gilbert who also fell at the start of the race I recall
25:45with uh Kenny Roxen got himself back to within a couple of positions of the German but
25:50Sasha Kunin's brother Lucas up at the sharp end six seconds behind Jet Lawrence still
25:57an impressive performance from a guy who's still in his rookie season in 450 but when we talk about
26:02rookie seasons and how good they can be this kid here went one one undefeated in his first 450 outdoor
26:08season and not not a lot uh not a lot older than uh 18 so uh yeah really impressive and it's it's
26:15it's great for Lucas to you know be young and and still have the the mentality to to learn in his first
26:22year and he'll be a real threat next year gifting is set so the first seven riders are MXGP riders
26:29Valin is now to eight the Wolf is down to nine so Valin is the lead MX2 rider so was there a mistake
26:36from Kaida Wolf or is it just good riding from Matisse Valin uh what were the left times last time
26:42around both in the 102s uh oh hang on 209 and uh 207 so uh yeah a bit of a gap three seconds faster
26:54so maybe Kaida Wolf just either running off track getting caught with a back marker or something like
26:58that maybe didn't expect Valin to be so close when he did make that mistake but now you can see is the
27:03body language from the rider in orange Kaida Wolf of the Netherlands who's riding solo no Glenn Kolden of
27:08of course not being cleared by the FIM to race today as Jet Lawrence moves into the final lap for
27:15Team Australia is led from the third corner pretty much just trying to take out some of those braking
27:22bumps there climb in the bank past pit lane but we've still got a battle going on between the MX2 riders
27:30four of them eight nine ten at eleven Valin DeWolf Sasha Cooper uh Sasha Coonan and uh Justin Cooper
27:42over the line here there is number 34 Gilbert for GB GB in 16 overall at the moment but they've got some
27:51big scores to throw away 23 and 37 of uh Dylan Walsh so hopefully they'll be getting rid of that 37
28:00and they can get some decent results on the board in the next two races from their side of things but
28:05uh Kaida Wolf ran the outside Valin knows he's there catches an edge should be an easy pass here in the
28:11final turn and it is but getting over the double on the exit of the turn Valin striking right back
28:17they've got a back marker between them here three abreast over the wall jump Valin still hanging on as they
28:22go into the final lap as the lead MX2 rider in his first nations pressure for France no pressure there
28:28I think that this is such a team France you know how they won their event for so many years is they just
28:34always answer the the bell you know they they come and uh show up with with their guys and they fight
28:40every lap all the way to the end and they have won this thing for uh less a little bit yeah Kaida Wolf
28:47just pushing hard there a little too hard coming out of that left turn front end hopping out of the
28:52rut both feet off the pegs desperate to find his way by watch this here just chucks it in there and uh
28:58a little bit untidy for the former champ just making it work manhand land no such dramas for
29:06this fellow though two corners to go and already in cruise mode and jet lawrence and team australia
29:13as it stands right now yes they'll be fourth overall in the classification but they're only five points
29:18off the lead but for jet lawrence coming here as the defending champions number one on the board
29:23the australian goes and wins race one but there's a problem here for sasha kunan his bike is let up on him
29:35so sasha kunan and we didn't see his crash so we don't know exactly what happened there and
29:39whether the bike got damaged as a result of that crash but uh jet lawrence wins race one
29:45oh so he's already gone down with another rider is that cooper so did coop land on him or did sasha
29:57kunan go down by himself either way belgium all of a sudden now that's going to be uh flipped on its
30:05head and it may be france who going to race two leading the way we won't know until we get sasha kunan
30:10over the line but it didn't look like his bike was in a hurry to get going didn't seem like he was going
30:14to make it there
