00:00Have you got what it takes to make it all the way to our final question and join the 1% Club?
00:17Anyone has a chance to win because this quiz isn't about how much you know, it's about how your brain really works
00:22as all our questions are about logic and common sense.
00:24So who will make it to the end and answer a question only 1% of the country can get right
00:28and win up to £100,000?
00:33Let's play the 1% Club!
00:39And hoping to win tonight's our 100 contestants!
00:42Hello!
00:45OK, give us a cheer if you genuinely think that tonight could be your night to win big.
00:51Person at the front there, what's your name?
00:53Ethan.
00:53What do you do, Ethan?
00:54I'm an insurance broker.
00:55Are you?
00:56And what are you going to do with this money then?
00:57I said I'd help Mum out with Project Stepdad and get a Tinder Gold so she can have an unlimited swipe.
01:04What's Tinder Gold?
01:06It's like a dating app, but...
01:08This show makes me feel really old, do you know what?
01:11I'm so old I reckon I could be your stepdad.
01:13Probably.
01:14Forget Tinder Gold, give me the money, I'll go out with her.
01:16That sounds awful.
01:17I'd like your mum if you'd pay me.
01:18She wanted me to wingman you.
01:20What is Gold Tinder?
01:21It just means she can have as many swipes as she wants, see as many men as she wants, just opens up the pool really.
01:28Yeah, yeah.
01:29Good luck to you tonight.
01:31Now, don't forget, you can play along at home if you want to.
01:33All you have to do is download the app.
01:34Okay, before we ask our first question, here's a reminder of how the show works.
01:38We asked a cross-section of people from all over Britain a list of our unique questions.
01:43Based on their answers, we can tell statistically what percentage of the country should get each one right.
01:49Tonight, I'll be asking those exact questions to our 100 contestants, beginning with the easier one that 90% of Britain got right,
01:56and ending with the most challenging question that only 1% of the great British public answered correctly.
02:02At the start of the show, every contestant is given a £1,000 stake.
02:06If they get any question wrong, they are out of the game, and the £1,000 is transferred to the 1% prize pot.
02:14Whoever gets the third list in the quiz wins £10,000, and the chance to answer the final 1% question to win everything in the prize pot,
02:22and take home up to £100,000.
02:28Right, let's get on with it. It's time for our first question.
02:32So, this is one that 90% of our survey got right. Let's see how you do.
02:40Four people are in a maze, trying to reach the centre.
02:44Which of them is going the wrong way?
02:47OK, your time starts now.
02:54Incredibly designed maze, that.
02:55You could get lost in there for seconds.
02:57OK, time is up.
03:14Let's see who's like to stay on, and are still in the game, and how many people are out.
03:17Right, we lost five of you on that one. Let's have a look at the answer.
03:39It's B, and there is the diagram to prove it.
03:41Unfortunately, if your lights are off, you're out of the game.
03:44Somebody who's out is Lauren Penman.
03:46What happened, Lauren?
03:47I did have B, and then I switched it at the last minute.
03:50It's pressure. It's under the lights.
03:52How did you think you'd do before you came today?
03:54I really didn't think I would do well.
03:56I don't have much common sense at all.
03:59I just like watching it with the family, to be fair.
04:01So you thought, get a day out, just come along?
04:03Yeah, play the board game as well, actually.
04:05Do you? How do you do with that?
04:06Do you manage to get the box open and stuff?
04:08Yeah, yeah.
04:08A bit harsh, sorry.
04:12I know, I know. It's lucky.
04:13Unlucky, Lauren. We've lost Annie Francis.
04:16Where are you, Annie?
04:16I might cry.
04:17Oh, you're right behind me.
04:18This is the worst thing that's ever happened to me, I think.
04:21The worst thing that's ever happened to you?
04:22I think so.
04:22Well, then you've had an easy life.
04:25Two hours sleep last night, in my defence, because I've got a little baby.
04:29How old's the baby?
04:29And we didn't get here until 3am, and then she was up at 5.
04:33Oh, no.
04:34So it's not been good. It's so embarrassing.
04:37I can't lie.
04:38Of all the people we've ever had on the show, you look the most devastated.
04:41I feel terrible.
04:42You don't understand the weird part of the house.
04:43I'm actually slightly worried, because you've been up all night, you've got a baby, you genuinely
04:46might start crying and attack me.
04:47My car broke down.
04:48Oh, my God.
04:49And then yesterday, the Airbnb cancelled on the day we were travelling up.
04:54It's been, like, the most stressful.
04:56You're lucky I'm even here, but now, look at this.
04:58Stop doing the face.
05:01I feel terrible.
05:02I know.
05:03Every time you do the face, I feel like I have to keep talking to her.
05:05Please, can you just start again?
05:05Just one game?
05:07No, we can't.
05:08Start again.
05:09Of course we can't.
05:10Please.
05:11I'm so gutted.
05:12No, it's just, you know.
05:16Please.
05:17No.
05:18It's going to be hard hosting this show now, because she's right behind me.
05:20I've got to be...
05:21All I'm going to hear from you is, Lee, I know we're on the 10% question, but can we still
05:25not start again?
05:26LAUGHTER
05:27So, there are 95 people still left in the game, and the £1,000 of everyone who got
05:31the question wrong now goes into the prize pot.
05:33Let's see what that's done to the total.
05:35£5,000!
05:37Right, it's time for the 80% question.
05:45So this is a question that 80% of the people we asked managed to get right.
05:49Let's see how you get on with this one.
05:53Lee always paints a circle.
05:54Lee never paints squares.
05:56Lee always paints four triangles.
05:58Which of these is one of Lee's paintings?
06:01OK, your time starts now.
06:03You think that's good?
06:06You should see what I can do with some glitter, crypt stick and a bag of dry pasta.
06:11LAUGHTER
06:12OK, your time is up.
06:28Let's see who got it right.
06:33Right, just three of you out on that one, let's have a look at the answer.
06:48It's A. B has squares and C has only three triangles, so it must be A.
06:53We've lost Dave Campbell.
06:56Really?
06:57Hey Dave, how are you doing?
06:58Well, not so good now.
06:59You're not happy.
07:00What did you put?
07:01I put B.
07:02I forgot to...
07:03I didn't see the square.
07:04I forgot to check the squares.
07:06Oh, no.
07:07Never mind.
07:08Never mind.
07:09What do you do, Dave?
07:10I'm a retired milkman.
07:11Are you?
07:12Yeah.
07:13I'm retired.
07:14You're a retired milkman, you're retired?
07:15Yeah.
07:16If you're going to clarify that, why don't you tell me what you used to do as well?
07:19I'm a retired milkman.
07:20I'm retired, but I was a milkman.
07:21LAUGHTER
07:22So, were you a milkman?
07:23I used to be, yeah.
07:24But you're retired, aren't you?
07:25Yeah, I am.
07:26LAUGHTER
07:27Oh, well, well, listen, unlucky Dave.
07:28Right, let's see what that's done to the prize pot.
07:30Right, we're up to £8,000 now.
07:34CHEERING
07:35OK, we are on to the 70% question.
07:39Let's have a look at it.
07:42What board game is represented here?
07:46And your time starts now.
07:48Oh, that reminds me, I need to pick up my prescription.
07:55LAUGHTER
07:58MUSIC
08:12OK, your time is up.
08:13Let's see who got it right.
08:14MUSIC
08:16Right, we lost three people.
08:31Let's have a look at the answer.
08:33Scrabble.
08:34S plus crab plus ball.
08:35Scrabble.
08:36We lost three of you there, including Marina Pavlou.
08:38Yeah!
08:39What do you want me to do?
08:40What do you want me to do?
08:41I don't know.
08:42I really don't know.
08:43What do I want you to do?
08:44I want you to do anything.
08:45I want you to do anything.
08:46Somebody's saying hello.
08:47I don't want you to dance.
08:48I just, I can't believe it.
08:49You can't?
08:50No, no, no.
08:51I'm worse than that lady over there.
08:52Like, I'm just so sad.
08:53And like, I want...
08:54She went out on the first one.
08:55Give her a break.
08:56Yeah.
08:57Have you got a baby in a hotel room?
08:58No.
08:59What's your excuse then?
09:00She's tired.
09:01Yeah, I don't know.
09:02Scrabble.
09:03I don't know.
09:04I was thinking of...
09:05What did you put?
09:06Skateball.
09:07Skateball?
09:08Skateball?
09:09Well, like, I think a sort of variant of a skateboard.
09:13Yes.
09:14What do you do, Marina?
09:15I'm a bum trainer.
09:16What does that mean?
09:17Awesome.
09:18I assist people...
09:20Sorry, the bloke to your left just went,
09:22Awesome!
09:24That was...
09:25You know you're on national television.
09:27Awesome!
09:28I assist people to build and strengthen their glutes.
09:32Do you?
09:33Yeah.
09:34Well, now he's there.
09:35Have a look to your left.
09:36What's his...
09:37What's his glute like on your left?
09:38Not good.
09:39Well, I don't know.
09:40He has to stand up, so...
09:41Well, I thought you were going to duck down and have a proper look then.
09:43He'd have to stand up.
09:44Let me go under.
09:45My kids are going to take the living piss out of me as well, like...
09:48Do you want to say something that can go on ITV?
09:52What did the kids think when you sort of came out?
09:54Well, they think I'm really stupid and...
09:56But you're here to prove them wrong.
09:57Yeah.
09:58Well, how's that panning out?
09:59But that's a stupid question.
10:01Yes, that's it.
10:02Blame the question.
10:03That's it.
10:04That would be the question's fault.
10:05That is a really silly one.
10:06I know.
10:07I can't believe that...
10:0889 got it right.
10:09Unlucky.
10:10You're out.
10:11OK, let's see what that's done to the prize pot.
10:14We're on £11,000.
10:15It's now time for the 60% question.
10:20Let's take a look.
10:23How many squares make up this pattern?
10:27And your time starts now.
10:28It's simpler than it looks.
10:29Bit like me.
10:30It's simpler than it looks.
10:31Bit like me.
10:32LAUGHTER
10:33How many squares make up this pattern?
10:48OK, your time is up.
10:49Let's see who got it right.
11:03Wow, that was carnage.
11:04We have lost 28 people.
11:18Let's have a look at the answer.
11:32It's four, and there they are.
11:36Oh, no.
11:37We've lost Ethan Hathi.
11:38Yeah.
11:39You were going to get the gold Tinder, weren't you?
11:41Yeah.
11:42Is that how it works on Tinder?
11:43No, I think you get, like, 20 a day.
11:4520 a day?
11:46How many do you need?
11:47I don't know how many, but she has a lot of spare time.
11:49Does she?
11:50Just her and two dogs, so...
11:51Right, so she's swiping all day.
11:52Yeah.
11:53Unlucky you went out, but you got this far, which is great.
11:55Yeah.
11:56Mum's going to be gutted.
11:5760% is fine.
11:58Sorry, I'm not...
11:59I'm not going to keep going...
12:00I'm not going to keep going on about it.
12:02You brought it up.
12:05Right, let's see what that's done to the prize pot.
12:09£39,000.
12:10OK, time for a quick break.
12:12We've lost 39 people here already.
12:14Hope you're doing OK at home.
12:15And don't forget, you can play along on the app.
12:17After the break, we'll be moving closer to seeing
12:19if anyone here can answer the 1% question.
12:21See you in a bit.
12:36Welcome back to the 1% Club.
12:37We started off with 100 people and now we are down to 61.
12:40The person who does best here tonight could be going home
12:42with up to £100,000.
12:46So welcome to everyone who's still in the game.
12:48And from now on, we are going to give you the option
12:50to pay for a pass to the next question.
12:52And if you do, your £1,000 will be transferred to the prize pot.
12:55However, if you get as far as the 30% question without using your pass,
12:58you'll get the chance to take your £1,000 and leave the game.
13:01Right, it is time for the 50% question.
13:07Let's take a look.
13:08Which of the words that follow this sentence
13:12don't follow the word follow in this question?
13:15Your 30 seconds starts now.
13:18I'll tell you one thing, I don't follow this question.
13:22I don't follow this question.
13:31And you can use your pass.
13:32OK, your time is up. Let's see who got it right.
13:51Right, we lost nine people. Let's have a look at the answer.
14:14It is D and there is the graphic to prove it.
14:18Someone who got that wrong is Christina Amat.
14:21Hello.
14:22How are you feeling? Are you annoyed?
14:23I'm pleased I didn't get knocked out in the first round.
14:26What is this about?
14:29Now they are all joining in.
14:31This is getting close to bullying, isn't it?
14:33Thank God you were asleep and missed that comment.
14:35I will.
14:37Christina, what did you put?
14:39I put C.
14:40You put C.
14:41Was it a guess or did you just miss it?
14:44Just a guess.
14:45Just a guess.
14:46Anyone at home waiting to see how you get on?
14:47Yes, my three children and Mr. Knobhead.
14:52Mr. Knobhead is your husband?
14:54Yes, he is.
14:55That's a lovely name because that's a Mr. Men that you never heard about.
14:58Mr. Knobhead got up one morning and went to town.
15:02Why did you call him Mr. Knobhead?
15:04We were out one day and I'm shouting Gary, Gary, Gary.
15:07What's his name?
15:08What's his name?
15:09Gary.
15:10He did well.
15:11I know.
15:12And I went, Knobhead!
15:13And he turned round.
15:14So it stuck.
15:15What a lovely story.
15:17Oh well, listen, unlucky.
15:19Let's see what that's done to the prize pot.
15:2251,000 pounds.
15:25OK, it's time for the 45% question.
15:30Let's take a look at it.
15:31OK, good luck.
15:33Here it is.
15:34Alistair's dream celebrity dinner party would be Cameron Diaz, Ella Fitzgerald and Glenn Hoddle.
15:43What is Alistair's surname?
15:45The time starts now.
15:52I posted a few celebrity dinner parties.
15:54All I'm saying is if you invite Mary Berry, count your cutlery.
15:57LAUGHTER
16:04OK, your time is up.
16:18Let's see whose lights are still on.
16:20MUSIC
16:35Right, we lost two people.
16:36Let's have a look at the answer.
16:39It is D.
16:41The initials of all the guests are consecutive letters,
16:43so his surname must begin with B.
16:45Somebody who's out is Marie Gardner.
16:47Where are you, Marie?
16:48Hiya.
16:49Are you angry?
16:50I'm all right.
16:51You don't look it.
16:52You look seething.
16:53What did you put, Marie?
16:54I put brown.
16:55Well, then you should have your light on.
16:58Unfortunately, you put B, white.
17:01Have you put B for brown, maybe?
17:04Oh, no.
17:06I think you put B for brown.
17:09It's supposed to be D for brown.
17:11That is annoying.
17:12I do feel for you.
17:13My job is to take the mickey, but I just feel gutted for you now.
17:16I feel like I want to let you through, but I can't.
17:18That's not how it works.
17:19I'm so sorry.
17:20What do you do, Marie?
17:22I'm a business coach.
17:25OK.
17:26And I have been in Extra in films as well.
17:29Have you?
17:30What have you been in?
17:31I'm very proud of my biggest starring moment.
17:34Well, my right ear starring moment in Welcome to the Punch.
17:37Who's in Welcome to the Punch?
17:39James McAvoy.
17:40And how come only your right ear made it?
17:42It's...
17:43Well, it was in the trailer and it was in the film as well.
17:48OK.
17:49And there was, you know, as they panned past, you saw my right ear.
17:53And have you...
17:54I'm reluctant to ask this.
17:55Have you had any of your other body parts in any films?
17:58LAUGHTER
17:59Erm...
18:00Not to date, no.
18:02But your right ear?
18:03Right ear, yeah.
18:04It's a start.
18:05Yeah.
18:06The rest of the body could follow.
18:07Exactly.
18:08You just don't know where I'm going to go from here.
18:10Absolutely.
18:11Well, from your left ear.
18:12Unlucky Marie, let's see what that's done to the prize pot.
18:16£57,000.
18:19OK, it's time for the 40% question.
18:24Let's take a look.
18:29What sport replaces the question mark?
18:32OK, your time starts now.
18:39It's a lot harder for our contestants in the studio.
18:41The lights, the cameras, the realisation that they're not as bright as they thought they were.
18:45It all adds pressure.
18:46LAUGHTER
19:05OK, your time is up.
19:06Let's see if you've got it right.
19:08Right, we lost two people, though. Let's have a look at the answer.
19:25It's golf.
19:27Goal minus AL plus LF equals golf.
19:30Somebody who didn't get it right but used their pass is Shona Haugen.
19:33Did you have any ideas on just black?
19:36No, I got football stuck in my head and I was like, foot-bluff?
19:40Foot-bluff?
19:41Yeah.
19:42OK, that's what the pass is for.
19:44What do you do, Shona?
19:46I've recently launched my own lingerie company.
19:48Have you?
19:49What's the company called?
19:50It's called We Sell Any Bra.
19:52It's not.
19:53It is.
19:54We sell any bra.
19:56We sell any bra, yes.
19:58Do you sell any bra?
19:59Yeah, not used bras, just like...
20:01I didn't think you did sell used bras until you just said that.
20:05No, so many people have asked me, like, used bras?
20:07You get so much more money for that.
20:09Well, because we buy any car is associated with second-hand cars.
20:12No, because people are weird.
20:15LAUGHTER
20:16Have you spoke to customers before?
20:18LAUGHTER
20:19Well done, Shona.
20:21Let's see what that's done to the prize pot.
20:26£60,000.
20:27APPLAUSE
20:30OK, it's getting tricky now.
20:31Let's move on to the 35% question.
20:36Right, here it is.
20:39These are all the UK coins in order of size
20:42from smallest to largest.
20:44How many stay in the same position
20:46when they are laid out in value order
20:49from lowest to highest instead?
20:51OK, you have 30 seconds,

34:48yeah wow and you're considered the cleverest of all of them all right that's what i say all right
34:55that's not quite the same thing is it are you competitive with your siblings yeah we used to uh
35:00compete over a countdown after school did you yeah put a bit of money on that so you're quite good with

35:16yeah i just want to say that i've answered all of the questions correctly after they've submitted
35:21their answers i've said i said this so you know that i'm not stupid so since you've been out you've
35:27got all the questions right yeah and you want us to know that yeah but only after they've submitted do
35:31i say that's what i would have put like so you don't so basically when you look at the guy next to you
35:36see what he's done no i don't see well whilst we're checking in how are you getting on really
35:42well other than the fact that i'm out have you got them all right since yes i have have you yeah
35:48well as long as you're having fun right let's see what that's done to the prize pot
35:5692 000 pounds so we're down to our last 13 players after the break we'll find out which of our remaining
36:02contestants could go on to play the one percent question see you in a bit
36:18welcome back to the one club we are very nearly at the point where we will discover who our winner
36:22will be now here's how the end of the game works whoever does the best here tonight will win 10 000
36:27pounds but if they're feeling brave they can risk their 10 grand by trying to answer the one percent
36:32question get it right and they will win everything in the prize pot which is currently sitting at 92 000
36:43now remember the four of you who still have your thousand pounds left you can pay for a pass but you
36:48can't use it on the one percent question but if you've still got it at the one percent question
36:53then you get to keep that one thousand pounds no matter what happens there are only 13 people left
36:58in the quiz and it's now time for the 10 question starting at one the first 10 odd numbers add up to 100
37:10what do the first 10 even numbers add up to the time starts now
37:24so
37:40all right we lost eight people though let's have a look at the answer
38:10110 there's the maths on top or you could just add 10 to 100 as each even number is one higher
38:18than the previous odd number somebody who didn't know it who used their past brett stinchcomb hello
38:23brett hi lee yeah i knew there was an easy way to work it out well i couldn't work out
38:28what the easy way was so i passed that's a hell of a sentence i knew there was an easy way to work it out but
38:32i couldn't work out the easy way to work it out doesn't that cover every question it was hard to find the
38:36easy way and i just couldn't yeah did we did you start adding i did start adding and they thought
38:41i've got to pass that's a lot easier 30 seconds wasn't long enough okay well done brett and then
38:45we've got ali hills hello uh ali what do you do uh i'm a business analyst have you got anybody waiting
38:50at home to see how you get on i told everyone what will you do with the cash um i want to hike uh to
38:56everest base camp with my mum yeah yeah why don't you go to the top lazy yeah yeah okay you're gonna
39:03take your mum yes is she a bit of a hiker yes okay well done ali it's great you've got this far the
39:08only person who got it right is ewan jepp there you are well done ewan how are you uh yeah i didn't think
39:20i got that right it was a very last minute and even then after you were thinking i probably got that wrong
39:24yeah i was expecting my life did you add all all the numbers yeah and then you managed to do all
39:29those maths in 30 seconds yeah i do so my degree is maths and physics okay so i think yeah i have a bit
39:36of you're good you must be really good actually if you were really good you'd know to use the second
39:40system but i'll let it go uh ewan uh what would you do if you win the money because of this show um you
39:47know i was watching it and i was doing quite well so i decided to do a test for mensa did you last year
39:51and just get in i scraped in and what's the mark to get in i don't know what the number is but it's
39:57like the top two percent okay um but they charge you 30 quid a year to be a member and i wasn't gonna
40:02pay that so if they have money left over i am using that line i could have been immensely you know
40:09i just didn't want to pay the subscriptions mensa they find the top two percent yeah we find the top
40:15one percent whatever mensa okay let's see what that's done to the prize pot
40:2496 000 pounds right it's getting serious now we are down to the five percent question
40:35let's take a look
40:35without reordering any letters how many animals appear in the sequence below the time starts now
40:56let's see which of our five remaining players got it right
41:26okay we lost five people though let's have a look at the answer
41:45the answer is six pheasant sea lion ant seal tortoise and lion the bad news is that you all got the
41:51question wrong but the good news is that you did better than everyone else here tonight which means
41:55that you are all our winners so ali hills christopher haynes brett stinchcom joe singtran and you and jet
42:03come down and join me because you've done so well and made it further than anyone else you win a
42:15shirt of 10 000 pounds but now you face a dilemma you can leave the show tonight and take your shirt of
42:22ten thousand pounds which works out at two thousand pounds of course or you can risk it all by attempting
42:29the one percent question get it right and you win your shirt of everything in the prize pot which stands
42:35none of you have a pass which means if you get it wrong you will leave with nothing now obviously if
42:47one of you decides to play on and get it right then you'll win the whole of the prize pot if more than
42:52one of you decides to play you'll win a share of it with anyone else who gets it right so now it's time
42:59to make your decision
43:08right so one of you have decided to take your shirt of the money and the rest of you are playing on
43:23christopher you weren't feeling confident or you thought i'm just i felt like my luck might have uh
43:28might have run out after the last time getting it wrong and still getting through was enough for me to
43:32say take it and go so yeah don't blame me let's jump on christopher hayes uh 2000 pounds well done christopher
43:44but ali brett ewan and joe your lights are on which means that you've decided to play on for the prize
43:50pot so after whittling down the contestants here in the studio we are left with a one percent question
43:56if you get this right you win a share of the prize pot and become a member of the one percent club
44:06good luck here is your one percent question
44:11the words below share a specific pattern why could voting also be part of the group
44:17and your 30 seconds starts now
44:26okay your time is up obviously your answers are locked in and you can't
44:53change it so we may as well ask what you put ali what was your answer um i put that it was about
44:58the order of the vowels and the consonants brett i didn't put anything lee ewan i didn't
45:05put anything joe gobbledygook okay let's have a look at the answer
45:13they all contain the name of metals commiserations you didn't make it into the one percent club
45:24congratulations to christopher who took his two thousand pounds and we'll see you next week when
45:28hopefully someone will go all the way and join the one percent club good night
45:46so
