In Peru, citizens once again took to the streets to demonstrate against the government of President Dina Boluarte and threats from Congress. Participants demanded structural changes to the governance model and denounced what they describe as an institutional and representational crisis. The National Association of Journalists condemned congressional threats and rejected the aggression against communicators covering the protests. These mobilizations respond to growing concerns over insecurity and criminality in the country, as well as questions surrounding Boluarte’s political legitimacy. Various sectors accuse her of maintaining ties with figures from Peru’s political past, including far-right leader Keiko Fujimori, who has been linked to corruption cases.
