00:00Is baby Johnny going to play hockey when he's big?
00:14You want to get the sticks?
00:18I met John in the summer of 2018.
00:24We were next door neighbors down the shore.
00:26I'm going to do daddy now.
00:28Curly hair.
00:30I had never heard of him.
00:34I had never heard of Johnny Hockey.
00:36I thought it was a retired, older hockey person moving in.
00:40And then when I saw him, I was like, it can't be him.
00:45One time I was at his house and his dad was watching the top ranked forwards for that upcoming season.
00:51And he popped up and I was like, is that you?
00:55He was like, no.
00:56And he was so shy and humble about it as I started to catch on and noticed people were looking at him in a good way.
01:03And before I knew it, one thing led to another.
01:07And it was perfect.
01:11Pretty cool, huh?
01:12I am really excited right now.
01:15Johnny Gaudreau is with me in his Blue Jackets polo.
01:20Welcome and congratulations to you.
01:22Yeah, thank you.
01:23Super excited.
01:24It's been widely reported that you took less money to come here.
01:28Is that accurate?
01:29Leaving Calgary to come to Columbus was more of like a family decision for me.
01:34Columbus seems like kind of a quiet little city and suits us really well.
01:38We're really enjoying it so far.
01:39We loved that we were at a phase where we were starting our family and on the East Coast closer to our relatives.
01:47You guys want to know what it is?
01:51Yes.
01:52It's a boy.
01:55That's your brother.
01:59It was just a really good fit for where we were in our lives.
02:03An unspeakable tragedy has rocked the hockey world.
02:11Thursday night in New Jersey, NHL star winger Johnny Gaudreau of the Columbus Blue Jackets
02:17and his younger brother Matthew were struck from behind and killed by an SUV.
02:22The Gaudreau brothers were set to be groomsmen in their sister's wedding on Friday.
02:29Johnny Gaudreau was known as Johnny Hockey.
02:31He won the 2014 Obie Baker Award as the NCAA's top player.
02:36Gaudreau then went to the National Hockey League and was an instant star.
02:41The Johnny Hockey nickname, it suits his game for sure.
02:44His vision of the ice, the way he thinks, that's why he has so many fans.
02:49It's admirable to watch.
02:51Johnny DeMaule on a breakaway and scores!
02:57He then signed a seven-year, $68 million contract to go to Columbus
03:01where he was just about to start his third season.
03:04That tragedy shook the hockey world to its core.
03:08Because at the end of the day, they weren't just hockey players.
03:10They were brothers, husbands, sons, friends.
03:14And they were going to be missed by so many different people.
03:17There's specifically one week that I will cherish forever.
03:22We're actually a family of five.
03:24I'm in my ninth week of pregnancy with our third baby.
03:29A total surprise, but again, John was beaming and so excited.
03:32And now, please join us as we welcome to the ice, Johnny's wife, Meredith,
03:44and their children, Noah and Johnny.
03:49John, you spent your entire life working hard for your family
03:52and making us so proud of you every single day.
03:55But now it's my turn to make you proud as you watch down on us
03:59from heaven with Uncle Matty by your side.
04:05As the team gets ready to take a warm-up before the game,
04:08I want you all to be inspired by the life that John left.
04:11That means love your family first and foremost.
04:14And when it's time to drop the puck, let's love the game that John left.
04:17Thank you and go Jackets.
04:18The fact that Meredith told the players to go play for Johnny
04:25and having her be that strong
04:27really put the organization in a position to look inward
04:31and the players to rely upon each other
04:33to figure out how do you move forward.
04:41Drop the puck.
04:4213 seconds off the clock for Johnny Gaudreau.
04:48From the accident to the funeral,
05:12there was a span of 10 days or so,
05:14we had the players come into town pretty quick after that.
05:21And I can remember we just sat down in a room and just chatted.
05:25It was just about being together.
05:31You know, day doesn't go by that we don't think about Johnny for sure.
05:34But I go back to what Meredith said at the opening night.
05:38Johnny wants you to go play hockey.
05:40I want you to go play hockey.
05:42Go play hockey.
05:44She's so strong of a person.
05:46And for her to be able to go through what she's going through
05:49and, you know, be so supportive of the players getting back
05:54was outstanding.
05:56It was expected to be a terrible season in a lot of ways.
06:02They finished in the bottom of the Eastern Conference last year
06:04and were expected to be there again this year.
06:07And then losing your best player to a tragedy.
06:11How do you deal with that?
06:14What's next?
06:15Everyone's just saying, or Blue Jackets.
06:24We're not in a position to win the Stanley Cup this year.
06:27I'm trying to, like, heck, to get into the playoffs, all that.
06:30But, you know, we're dealt a tough situation,
06:32and we know if we stick together and work together
06:35and play together that we have a better chance of having success.
06:40When I was up in Calgary, they gave us a few of these.
06:43They were signed by Johnny and Sean.
06:46Gave Meredith a few copies of it.
06:49There was originals.
06:50There was, like, three or four originals there.
06:52Jenner and Brents have been out, but, you know, Monaghan,
06:55as good of a player as he's been on the ice,
06:57he's the one I worry about the most.
06:59He bought his house right behind Johnny, the whole thing.
07:01So I just don't know how he's done it.
07:05He's been amazing.
07:06It says a lot that Monaghan wanted to go to a place
07:09that traditionally not a lot of guys have shown that they want to sign.
07:12It was all about Johnny hockey
07:14and him wanting to play with Johnny.
07:19A minute after I signed here,
07:22I had messages from Boone and John telling me
07:25that there's a house available within 20 steps from both of them.
07:29So I came and checked it out, and, I mean, it all worked out.
07:34The first time I met John was development camp,
07:36and then it was his first game with the Flames organization.
07:40We were a bit of an older team at the time, too,
07:42so I was excited to get another young guy to hang out with.
07:48Chris Breen slams one towards the goal,
07:51tipped in by Johnny Goudreau.
07:53His first NHL game.
07:55He's got his first NHL goal.
07:57We hung out a lot.
07:59We experienced a lot together, too.
08:01I mean, if I was 18, 19, he was 19, 20,
08:04and the line mates for the next seven or eight years,
08:07he made his impact pretty quickly.
08:09At their peak, Monahan and Goudreau were as good
08:19as any tandem in the entire NHL.
08:22They put up crazy numbers, and it was great to watch.
08:29They were the engine that made the Calgary Flames go.
08:33I was lucky enough to be his line mate
08:35and probably set me up for over 150 goals at least.
08:39Goudreau in front.
08:40Needs a pass to Lino.
08:41Stuck by Aubrey.
08:42Took it up high.
08:43DeGroze.
08:43Stores!
08:45He just loved playing the game
08:46and to make those special plays highlight reels.
08:49Johnny DeGroze sends the Flames to round two.
08:53He's going to go down as one of the best guys to play this game.
08:59When Sean signed in Columbus,
09:01it was one of the best days of John's life.
09:05Kind of an easy decision,
09:07but John was calling me every five minutes.
09:09From the day our season ended in Winnipeg
09:11to the day of free agency,
09:14I'm pretty sure I still got a voicemail on my phone
09:16that he left me.
09:19They were like brothers.
09:21Kind of grew up together in this world,
09:23and they talked every single day.
09:26When Sean was out in Calgary,
09:28Sean and Brittany were his family.
09:30He's just someone that I know John really looked up to.
09:35He's been really special to me and my kids
09:40because I know how much he meant to John.
09:42It took a while for me.
09:45I was quiet for a while,
09:47and you get all these different emotions that hit you,
09:51but some days I'm laughing.
09:53Some days it's sad.
09:56I think being at the rink and playing
09:58is obviously something that takes your mind off everything for sure.
10:05We all picked the Columbus Blue Jackets
10:07to finish eighth in their division.
10:09They lost their best offensive player.
10:12Johnny Goudreau passed away.
10:13And if they make playoffs,
10:17that is the greatest story of all time.
10:21Six to five.
10:23Columbus gets off to a surprisingly great start to the season,
10:26and Sean Monaghan's at the center of it,
10:28and it's such a gut punch
10:29when he suffers a bad wrist injury.
10:33It's the road to recovery for me right now.
10:34I'm trying to get back,
10:35hoping to be a couple weeks away.
10:38We've got a great team.
10:40It's just mentally, it's a grind.
10:41I mean, it's tough to watch and not play.
10:44Blue Jackets have been having a moment all season long.
10:47Yes, they are, I believe, the second wild card right now.
10:50They are doing it without Sean Monaghan,
10:53which is unbelievable,
10:54because Sean Monaghan has been such a big part
10:56of that team's turnaround.
11:00You can't be part of it.
11:03You've got to put the work in so you're ready when you get back,
11:05and I think when teammates see other guys pushing
11:07to get back in the lineup,
11:09it keeps them hungry.
11:11We have a motivated group in here.
11:13It's a special feeling to be in this room,
11:15and, I mean, everyone's trying to push the needle forward here.
11:26There's not a day go by I don't think about them.
11:28There's times you're sitting on the bench during the game
11:29thinking about them,
11:30and I feel like it just gives you more motivation
11:32to go out there and play hard and play for each other.
11:34We were in Jersey for the funeral.
11:42We were all sitting there afterwards,
11:43like, what would John want us to do?
11:45He wants to go have a couple beers.
11:46He'd want us to, you know, tell stories and laugh,
11:49and it's been a good way to kind of remind ourselves
11:51to just go enjoy it and have fun
11:53because that's what John did at the rink.
11:55I feel like for practice, I'm early.
11:57I'm one of the first guys there.
11:58Monahan's pretty early,
11:59so when I go with him,
12:00we usually get there around four.
12:02John used to get there at, like, 4.59,
12:05and we'd have power play at 5.05.
12:09He was the last one every time.
12:12What happened with John,
12:13and I feel like people were writing us off.
12:16Hey, guys.
12:19Dusty.
12:20People weren't sure how we were going to respond.
12:23We weren't sure how we were going to respond.
12:25Zach Wierenski.
12:27Unbelievable.
12:29I don't need too many shots.
12:31Since December 23rd,
12:33Wierenski was first in the NHL in assists,
12:35points, and shots.
12:38Norris Trophy season, dude.
12:40He's on pace for 92 points
12:41and a plus-16 this year
12:43on the Columbus Blue Jackets.
12:48Must have been a team effort.
12:50Have you noticed he, in particular,
12:51growing as a player, as a leader,
12:53and how much has that helped this team?
12:55Yeah.
12:56Right from that first game,
12:57I mean, he's been, you know,
12:58the backbone back there for us
13:00and driving offense, scoring goals.
13:02He's taken a huge step,
13:04and he's a really, really elite player,
13:06obviously, in this league.
13:08Top defenseman for a reason,
13:09and we're lucky to have him.
13:10The team just released
13:12that Sean Monaghan will be out
13:13in an additional six to eight weeks.
13:15Bad news there for Monaghan
13:17and, obviously, the Blue Jackets.
13:20We're dealing with some injuries,
13:21but it's been four years
13:23since I played meaningful hockey.
13:24Like, every night,
13:25I'm just checking the scoreboard
13:26and seeing, like,
13:27where we're at in the standings,
13:27who we're playing against.
13:29We're a good hockey team,
13:30and we know we are.
13:31We play the right way,
13:32and we play hard.
13:33We can play with anyone.
13:34That was he, was he, was he, was he, was he?
13:36He's coming!
13:38Wawenski, cutting,
13:38shot, he's in the hole!
13:40Oh!
13:40Zach Wawenski!
13:431-0 Jackets!
13:47Great play.
13:48Great fucking play.
13:48Shit.
13:49Wawenski is one of the most underrated
13:51blue liners in the league,
13:53and this year,
13:54he's really showed up for that team
13:56in ways that I don't think they expected.
13:58That's you coming, coming, coming!
14:00I mean, what doesn't Zach Wawenski do?
14:03He plays against top lines,
14:04he plays any situation,
14:06power play, penalty kill,
14:08goal he pulled.
14:09You need a big goal scored,
14:10he'll do it.
14:11You need a playmate, he'll do it.
14:13Adrian Kempe plays,
14:14soothes Wawenski with the block.
14:15How good is that play by Wawenski?
14:17He's the guy there.
14:19There's no question,
14:20and you can see it.
14:22Columbus looking for victory.
14:23Kareil Barteko,
14:24names it on it!
14:25He's good!
14:26Oh!
14:26Jackets win 3-2!
14:31That was sick!
14:39Us against the world, boys.
14:43Other teams don't feel bad for us
14:44when we're injured.
14:46We have a lot of guys on our team
14:48that are pushing hard right now,
14:49playing hard.
14:50It's that next man up mentality.
14:53Good for you guys.
14:54That's a big fucking win.
14:55That's not an easy hockey game.
14:57It was a fucking grind.
14:59We talked about it,
14:59you stuck with it.
15:00So, enjoy your two days off.
15:02Alright boys.
15:05We know how we have to play.
15:07If we were to make the playoffs
15:08and get some guys healthy,
15:09we can definitely do some damage in it.
15:10It's just getting there and making it.
15:12So,
15:12it's going to be a sprint to the finish.
15:14Right now,
15:21we could be in changing of the guard watch
15:23in the Eastern Conference
15:25based on what we've seen
15:26over the last couple weeks.
15:28That Stadium Series game
15:29on March 1st
15:30has a lot of juice to it
15:32because Columbus and Detroit
15:33are two of the hottest teams
15:34in the league
15:35and there could be
15:37playoff implications on the line.
15:38I'm very excited for that game.
15:40Hi Uncle D!
15:40It's a little late
15:42for the Christmas tree
15:42and the decorations
15:43but my fiancée got some gifts
15:45for Noah
15:45and we've just been waiting
15:47for her to come by
15:48and open them
15:48and see the big tree.
15:50Look how big their hogo tree is.
15:53What?
15:56Do you want to open something?
15:58Did Santa come leave you
16:00a couple things?
16:01Santa came here?
16:03Are those your presents?
16:06Look at all this slime.
16:08Open it.
16:09My body.
16:13Big again.
16:16Where we live in New Albany
16:17it's the Jenners,
16:19the Monahans.
16:20We live there.
16:20It's a good group of people there.
16:22Guys are close on every team
16:23but I feel like this team
16:24is special.
16:26This one.
16:27You like the purple?
16:28You know there's so many of us
16:29that are there for them
16:30and want to help them
16:31and I feel like the main thing
16:32that I learned
16:33there's really not much
16:34you can do
16:35except be there for them.
16:36Oh.
16:37It's toast now.
16:40Yeah.
16:43We don't buy messy toys.
16:47You know being around the team
16:48is comforting.
16:50I know John would want
16:51his kids to stay a part
16:52of this world
16:54and just be close
16:55to his people.
16:56You got to show Uncle Boone.
16:58We'll make some
16:59all together here soon.
17:02I'm excited for the outdoor game.
17:04Those are always fun.
17:05The organization is
17:06making a special point
17:08to do something for John.
17:10It is sad
17:11because he was looking forward
17:12to having an outdoor game.
17:14Wow.
17:14He's so sicky.
17:16I know.
17:16It's not coming out.
17:18But you know
17:19I know he's looking down
17:20really proud of these guys.
17:22Noah should we go out to dinner
17:23or should we stay here and play?
17:25Stay.
17:26Play.
17:26Okay.
17:27Okay.
17:27I contend that tomorrow
17:39is the most important day
17:41in franchise history.
17:44This franchise has never
17:45taken center stage.
17:48You're going to be in front
17:48of roughly 100,000 people.
17:50I think a lot of people
17:51are going to realize
17:52there's a reason why
17:53a lot of Blue Jackets fans
17:54feel so strongly about this team
17:56is because there is
17:57a real family atmosphere
17:58about it.
18:01We've all been here
18:02watching football games
18:03and concerts
18:03but to actually
18:04have an NHL game out here
18:06is going to be pretty cool.
18:08It's my first outdoor game.
18:09It's the city's first outdoor game
18:11and our fans are jacked up for it
18:12so I'm expecting
18:13a great atmosphere
18:14and it's going to be
18:14a hell of a game
18:15so I'm excited for it.
18:17What's it like to see
18:18all the 13s around?
18:20Do you feel his presence
18:20even in these kind of big moments?
18:22Yeah.
18:23I mean to be honest
18:23I feel his presence all the time.
18:25I don't know
18:25if he sends me signs
18:26or what it is.
18:28I feel like he's
18:29watching down on us
18:30and trying to make him proud
18:31for sure.
18:39We're back in the capital
18:40of the great state of Ohio
18:42inside the horseshoe
18:44more than 90,000 people
18:46on hand.
18:47Boone
18:47I asked you
18:49yesterday when we did
18:50the Johnny skate
18:51do you think Johnny
18:53would like to be here?
18:55He said yes
18:55he would like to be here
18:56correct?
18:57Yes.
18:57Sure he would like to be here
18:58but you know what
18:59he is here
19:00he's with all of us.
19:04Family here
19:05Meredith here
19:07go with him out there
19:09play the game
19:10the right way
19:11we fucking play
19:12we'll have success
19:13it's fucking good.
19:14the stadium series
19:21is a moment
19:22that the market
19:22has been waiting for
19:23for a long time
19:25it's kind of
19:26the final recognition
19:28of Johnny Gaudreau
19:29and a celebration
19:30of his life
19:31this season
19:32and Meredith Gaudreau
19:34is there with the kids
19:35front and center
19:36walking into
19:47the stadium that day
19:49with Sean by my side
19:50and the Blue Jackets
19:52behind me
19:52it was really symbolic
19:53just felt like
19:54this whole team
19:55has got my back
19:56this is the greatest show
19:58this is the greatest show
20:04the Detroit Red Wings
20:09and the Columbus Jackets
20:10ready to go
20:11the 43rd outdoor game
20:14and first ever
20:15involving the Blue Jackets
20:16the first ever

21:12to stand there

21:19just to hear 90 plus
21:20thousand people
21:21chanting Johnny hockey
21:23got us going there
21:24that was a huge
21:26moment for our team
21:27the Jackets
21:31win the draw
21:32they've got the puck
21:34Wierenski
21:34on the right wing
21:36forward
21:36about to the right
21:36circle
21:37put it under
21:39there's a score
21:41they score right on
21:42kill
21:43made it 2-1
21:44for the Jackets
21:45hey
21:47great phase off
21:48Wierenski
21:50he's really picked up
21:51his game
21:52since Monaghan
21:53went down
21:5418 goals
21:55and 62 points
21:57Matthew Olivier
21:59he jams it out
22:02in front
22:02and scores
22:04Matthew Olivier
22:07makes it 3-1
22:09for the CBJ
22:10let's go baby
22:13Blue Jackets
22:15a 2-goal lead
22:16heading into the
22:17third period
22:18I was looking at him
22:26you say leave it
22:27like instead of going
22:27that way
22:28like go like corner
22:28maybe next time
22:29I'll just stay on that
22:30side
22:30I just wanted to get to
22:31my forehand
22:31if you have him to
22:33skate then you go
22:33yeah
22:34just like
22:35just more of like
22:36a shallow route
22:37I think Zach
22:38has always been
22:38a supporter
22:39when it comes
22:40to leadership
22:40and I think
22:41this year
22:42he got thrust
22:43into a position
22:43where he had
22:44to be a leader
22:45he got people
22:45from all over the world
22:46in that locker room
22:47and they really
22:48came together
22:48it was something
22:49to admire
22:50so let's just
22:51try and get our gaps
22:52and lock it down
22:52and fucking win it
22:54here
22:54thank you on behalf
22:56of all hockey fans
22:57around the world
22:58for being so gracious
22:59with your time
23:00well I would say
23:00thank you to everyone
23:01else making it
23:02so special for us
23:03and honoring John
23:05and making our kids
23:06a big part of it
23:07because that's what
23:08he intended for them
23:09third period underway
23:12Detroit had a huge
23:16edge in shots
23:17they carry the play
23:18and they score
23:19Patrick Kane
23:22makes it 3-2
23:23now let's get 1-2
23:25going a little harder
23:26here in the neutral zone
23:27three and a half to go
23:29they are all over
23:31the Blue Jackets
23:32they score
23:34Alex to Brinkett
23:36and Detroit is all even
23:40with Columbus
23:41gotta be sharp
23:42my voice
23:43we've dealt with adversity
23:45in Columbus for a long time
23:46and I think that just shows
23:48the type of character
23:48we have in our room
23:49the type of resilience
23:50we have in our room
23:51he's going forward
23:55north here
23:56he's going north
23:58under two and a half to go
24:02and here's Dan Swanson
24:03he scores
24:08took the puck away
24:11and scored
24:12on his own rebound
24:14holy fuck
24:18what a goal
24:19fuck it is
24:20Jenner's got it
24:24in the middle
24:24Wierenski
24:25hits the poke
24:26Wierenski grabs the side
24:28of the same poke
24:28they score
24:29holy fuck
24:34I'm an idiot
24:35I'm an idiot
24:35I'm a voice
24:36we'll fucking get it done
24:38the Columbus Blue Jackets
24:41in their first outdoor game
24:43beat Detroit 5-3
24:46and move into the number one
24:49wildcard spot
24:50in the Eastern Conference
24:51with their fourth straight win
24:53good job
24:55unbelievable
24:56unbelievable
24:57you guys fucking played well man
24:58keep going man
24:59I'm cheering for you guys
25:00I'm cheering for you guys
25:01both of us
25:02good job guys
25:03there we go
25:04there we go
25:04you know guys stepped up
25:06at different times
25:07throughout the game
25:07obviously Danny at the end
25:08there is a huge goal
25:09we have you know
25:1022-23 games left
25:12and see what happens
25:14down the stretch here
25:14but we're going to need
25:15our fan base behind us
25:15and they definitely were tonight
25:16big one
25:19that was awesome
25:21one win
25:23big one
25:24big one
25:25all the tributes
25:26have been amazing
25:27they all have been
25:28a little different
25:28in their own way
25:29it's so nice to see
25:31the outreach John has had
25:32but once they're all over
25:34and said and done
25:34I'm kind of like
25:35emotionally exhausted
25:36from them sometimes
25:37because I do want to
25:38just put on a brave face
25:39when I'm there
25:39it's a lot
25:41but I wouldn't ever
25:42pass it up
25:43because I feel close
25:44to him when I'm there
25:45thank you guys
25:46yeah
25:47show it
25:58show Johnny
25:59this is my sister Lily
26:03she pretty much moved out
26:05with me last year
26:05to help me when I was
26:07pregnant and John was on the road a lot
26:09and she actually was in the delivery room
26:11with John and I
26:12when we had Johnny
26:13so she's been there
26:14every step of the way
26:15with this little guy
26:16and number three
26:17yeah
26:18so a lot of help
26:20which is good
26:21I'm unfortunately
26:23getting used to this new normal
26:25it's just that
26:26you know little things
26:27still feel the same
26:30although John can't do them with me
26:32anyone in a mask is a doctor
26:39I didn't really know
26:42when it all was happening
26:43what next week or tomorrow
26:44or the next month would look like
26:46and then as time went on
26:47I thought
26:47I do want to have this baby
26:49in Columbus
26:49with our same doctor
26:50that we had our first babies with
26:53because she knew John really well
26:54wow
26:55we always do a big
26:57pool online
26:58of everyone's guesses
26:59of boy or girl
27:00is that our new baby in my belly?
27:03knowing like I had all three babies
27:05with the same doctor
27:06in the same city
27:07at the same hospital
27:08it was one thing
27:09that I could look back on
27:11and knowing
27:12you know that part
27:13didn't have to change
27:14hey
27:15it just felt right
27:16careful
27:17these are special
27:18I remember my dad
27:28used to tie my skates
27:29when I was a kid
27:30now it kind of sucks
27:33when someone else
27:33has to tie your skates
27:34when you're hurt
27:38and you're looking in
27:39from the outside
27:39it can get frustrating
27:42but yeah
27:42you gotta try
27:43and stay positive
27:44they were coming off
27:45such a high
27:46at the outdoor game
27:47and then immediately
27:48after the fact
27:49they take a nosedive
27:50and they lose
27:50eight out of their next
27:51nine games
27:52and Monaghan
27:54such a central piece
27:55just feels like
27:56they need him back
27:57as soon as possible
27:58I think most of the season
28:09they were scoring goals
28:10the last what
28:11two weeks or so
28:12they haven't been scoring goals
28:14I think the team
28:17we saw earlier in the season
28:18I think it'll come back around
28:20we're gonna get Monaghan
28:21come back late on Monday
28:22Jesus
28:27yeah
28:30landed right on my elbow
28:32fuck
28:33these next couple games
28:38will be big for them
28:39but I believe
28:40that the Jackets
28:41can do this
28:41get it turned around
28:42and squeak into the playoffs
28:43we're a resilient team
28:45on the ice
28:46and everyone's
28:47gotta pull their weight
28:48and do their job
28:49and I think
28:50this is a team
28:51who can compete
28:51in the playoffs
28:52tomorrow will be huge
28:59need those two points
29:01tomorrow
29:02it was announced today
29:09that Sean Monaghan
29:10is back in the lineup
29:11and I didn't realize
29:12this about Monaghan
29:14he's got 41 points
29:16in 41 games
29:16he's been big time
29:18as we all know
29:19so I would like
29:20to be optimistic
29:21about this team
29:22but the reality
29:22is you're four points
29:23out right now
29:23of the playoff spot
29:25I mean these are the
29:26type of games
29:26you have to win
29:27now Monaghan
29:29a flip
29:29Boone Jenner
29:31here he is
29:31one-on-one
29:31working in against
29:32Dodgson
29:33he scores
29:34and the Columbus
29:35Blue Jackets
29:36snap the six-game
29:37losing streak
29:38it looked like
29:40it was over
29:40for the Blue Jackets
29:41and then
29:42they get hot
29:43and they play
29:43themselves back
29:44into contention
29:45Monaghan
29:46he looks for a play
29:47gates out
29:48sets it up
29:48Martenko
29:49wires
29:49for Lopez
29:50Blue Jackets
29:51win it
29:51seven-six
29:52ten games remain
29:54for the Blue Jackets
29:55this season
29:55they come in tonight
29:56two points
29:57out of a wildcard spot
29:59in the Eastern Conference
30:00we're in for such
30:08a great finish
30:09in this Eastern Conference
30:10playoff chase
30:10over to Monaghan
30:13with a look
30:13here he is
30:14he scores
30:15Sean Monaghan
30:17because of you guys
30:18are playing game sevens
30:20every night
30:20we're playing hard
30:21trying to get two points
30:22every night
30:23to get where we want to be
30:24and that's in the playoffs
30:25Zach Worenski
30:26now a great chance
30:28and they score
30:29and when the Norris
30:31trophy ballots are in
30:32Zach Worenski
30:33will be in the top three
30:34for sure
30:35the Norris trophy
30:36goes to the best defenseman
30:38in the NHL
30:39and Zach Worenski
30:41this year
30:42was really really
30:43putting on
30:44a strong campaign
30:46to win the Norris
30:47you're having a great season
30:48appreciate that
30:49thank you very much
30:50thank you
30:50Worenski a shot
30:52good
30:53big team win
30:55but sometimes you get
30:56to celebrate
30:57the milestones here
30:58Z
30:58the franchise leader
31:00in assists
31:00this wouldn't be possible
31:05without you guys
31:05so I appreciate it
31:06and let's just
31:06keep this thing rolling
31:07Jackets still alive
31:11stayed alive
31:13Beam
31:13okay so the Canadians
31:17host the Hurricanes
31:17tonight
31:18if the Canadians
31:18get a point
31:19they're in the playoffs
31:20and that is it
31:21and then we congratulate
31:22the Columbus Blue Jackets
31:23on a wonderful season
31:24if they lose
31:26this game in regulation
31:27then tomorrow
31:28when the Columbus Blue Jackets
31:30host the New York Islanders
31:31they can get into the playoffs
31:33by winning in regulation
31:34how's it felt
31:36how's it felt to kind of
31:37be in the Norris conversation
31:39it's been a little weird
31:41to be honest
31:42I definitely noticed it
31:44whether that's
31:45you know
31:45through social media
31:46or people in the city
31:47it's been fun
31:49but definitely been different
31:50I don't
31:51I can't say I love
31:52the spotlight
31:53I'm just trying to
31:54enjoy the year
31:55hopefully we make the playoffs
31:56and
31:57we're still in it
31:59right
31:59until we're eliminated
32:00or until we clinch
32:02we just have to keep playing
32:03and keep playing our game
32:05it all comes down to this
32:08game 82
32:09for the Montreal Canadiens
32:11and a single point tonight
32:12will earn their spot
32:13into the Stanley Cup playoffs
32:15unfortunately for the
32:16Columbus Blue Jackets
32:17they have to sit there
32:19and watch this go down tonight
32:20and hope that
32:21this lineup for the Carolina
32:23can take down
32:24the Montreal Canadiens
32:25yeah really nervous
32:26I feel like when you're in the game
32:27you kind of have some excitement
32:28maybe a little bit of nerves
32:29but
32:29and when you're watching
32:30there's just nothing you can do
32:31to help have the outcome
32:34that you want
32:34so it's just a totally different feel
32:35this season
32:40the team with the most
32:41national backing
32:42was the Blue Jackets
32:43because people knew the story
32:45and it would have just been
32:55the perfect storybook ending
32:57everybody wanted to see
32:59and Montreal
33:00versing a one goal lead
33:02with 159 to go
33:04here in the third period
33:06and you can feel the tension
33:08a scramble off the draw
33:12picked up
33:12and it's down the ice
33:14scores
33:15Jake Evans
33:16and it's inside
33:17and it's inside
33:17and it's inside
33:18a lead for the Billy now
33:19and this will do it
33:21that the Montreal Canadiens
33:23will be heading to the playoffs
33:25I definitely think that
33:27we were a playoff team
33:28but we can't wait
33:29for Montreal to lose
33:30or Detroit to lose
33:31or Ottawa to lose
33:32it was on us to win hockey games
33:33and we didn't do enough of that
33:34and that's the reason
33:36we fell short
33:37what's up guys
33:49being so close to the team
33:56this year
33:57was really comforting
33:57to me
33:58you know
33:58it's where
33:59we would have been together
34:00so I find a lot of comfort
34:02in being around
34:03the people that John
34:04was closest to
34:05and you know
34:06those boys saw John
34:07every single day
34:08they knew him so well
34:10this is baby Carter
34:11Carter Michael
34:13pretty good
34:14still just sleeps a lot
34:16so I can bring him out here
34:17with me all the time
34:18when the kids want to come out
34:19but he's all John
34:20came out weighing
34:21the exact same as John
34:23and the exact same length
34:24yeah
34:268 pounds 3 ounces
34:27and 20 and a half inches
34:28and that was exactly
34:30like his daddy
34:31that's nice
34:33looking at Carter
34:38looks just like John
34:40Carter's a special kid
34:41and someone who I'm going to be
34:43keeping a close eye on
34:45for the rest of my life
34:46and being able to watch him grow up
34:47I want to go down the slide
34:49yeah
34:50I want to go down the slide
34:52you want to go down the slide?
34:53yeah
34:53we got a whole line here now
34:55with Leo and my two
34:58so
34:58we'll see how they pan out
35:01to be like their dads
35:02yay
35:04slow and steady
35:05whoa
35:06whoa
35:06he's doing it
35:07I hope our kids are going to be hockey players
35:10I know
35:10that's what John always wanted
35:12in the back of his mind
35:13my father-in-law already bought
35:16Johnny skates last Christmas
35:18so he's waiting
35:20and he's ready
35:21and
35:21definitely give it a shot
35:23it was sad to be honest
35:31not getting a chance to
35:33play a game
35:34to try and get in the playoffs
35:35but winning this game
35:36is still very important
35:37and
35:38John
35:39I think he'd be proud of us
35:40I mean at the end of the day
35:41he would have been such a big part of it
35:43and
35:43I mean
35:44keeping the mood light
35:46and
35:46a big part of the success
35:48we would have had
35:48so
35:49you think about that
35:50and
35:51it can make you really emotional
35:52I honestly believe
36:01that they played every single game
36:03every single second together
36:04they played it for Johnny and Matty Gaudreau
36:07let's finish it off the right way
36:17okay boys
36:18fuck we've done it all year
36:19we've stuck together
36:20we've played for each other
36:22let's fucking continue that
36:23okay
36:23you guys have set that standard
36:26let's finish it off the right way
36:27alright Harry
36:28I'm right here
36:31I'm right here
36:34Columbus looks back on this season
36:36as extremely difficult
36:38but also as
36:40a real formative year
36:42and learn that
36:43not only are they capable
36:45of bonding together
36:47and moving through
36:48unspeakable tragedy
36:49but also like
36:51they're a pretty good hockey team
36:53for the Blue Jackets
36:55what a regular season
36:57so many career years
36:59none better than the season
37:00for that guy
37:01Zach Wierenski
37:02finalist for the Norris Trophy
