00:00:26He still sinks
00:00:28And when he takes them
00:00:30He doesn't want to give them back
00:00:31This side passage
00:00:34Looks like the forgotten trail
00:00:36But it's about to become a feature
00:00:38In its own right
00:00:39If the two of us get stuck in
00:00:41We can really create a nice little hidden retreat out here
00:00:43Clarissa's sharing her cookie recipe
00:00:47That may contain traces
00:00:49Of amazing
00:00:5020 minutes to bake
00:00:52And you will have the best
00:00:54After school snacks for your kids
00:00:56Plus, hack your way to high end
00:01:00You will never look at flat pack furniture
00:01:02The same way again
00:01:03And take your front yard
00:01:06From greyscale to grand scale
00:01:09The team and I are here
00:01:10To help homeowner Joanne
00:01:11Transform the front of her garden
00:01:13And make it more welcoming
00:01:14I think everyone knows
00:01:20What a cat burglar is
00:01:22But my next patient by the name of Chewy
00:01:25Is anything but discreet
00:01:26About what he steals
00:01:28How are you all?
00:01:38Dr Harry!
00:01:39Chelsea
00:01:39Dr Harry
00:01:40Nice to meet you
00:01:41I'll get to you in a minute
00:01:42How good to see you
00:01:43How are you going?
00:01:44I'm good, thank you
00:01:45Nice to be here
00:01:46Mate, what do you do with a red rag to a bull?
00:01:49It's a pink rag to a dog
00:01:50Actually, it's a towel
00:01:51What's going on, mate?
00:01:52Well, it was a towel until Chewy got to it
00:01:55So did it get ripped off the line or what?
00:01:58Yeah
00:01:58But he likes to chew things
00:02:00In fact, anything
00:02:01Is that how he got his name?
00:02:03No
00:02:04No, seriously
00:02:04Is that how he got his name?
00:02:05He got the name first
00:02:06And then he adopted the accent
00:02:08So he's ripped a bit off it
00:02:09Yep
00:02:10Okay
00:02:10Can you get that back?
00:02:12No
00:02:12And I might lose my fingers in the process
00:02:14Might you?
00:02:15Let's have a go
00:02:16He wants to keep it
00:02:18But he wants us to try and get it back
00:02:19Okay
00:02:20It's all part of the game
00:02:21So if it's on the ground
00:02:22He believes it's him
00:02:23Give me some examples
00:02:24Well, it could be anything
00:02:26It could be a tissue
00:02:27It could be a sock that's dropped
00:02:30Isn't it all part of the game?
00:02:33Once he's got it
00:02:34It's his prize
00:02:35And he won't give it up
00:02:36So is that a problem for you?
00:02:39Of course it is, yeah
00:02:40Because it's a great worry
00:02:41When he picks up things
00:02:42That are possibly dangerous
00:02:45That is what it's all about
00:02:47Things that he could swallow
00:02:49Things that may be toxic
00:02:50Things that may cause
00:02:51An intestinal obstruction
00:02:52Things like that
00:02:54Things that may lacerate his mouth
00:02:55When he tries to swallow them
00:02:56All those sort of things
00:02:58What was the first thing he stole?
00:03:02Can you remember?
00:03:04Tissues
00:03:05Tissues
00:03:05Okay
00:03:06Tissues
00:03:07Yeah
00:03:08Yeah
00:03:08That's a common thing
00:03:09They'll often go into the bathroom
00:03:10And they'll completely unroll
00:03:12The toilet roll
00:03:13Yes, he did that
00:03:14What was the next thing
00:03:16You noticed him taking?
00:03:18Probably socks
00:03:20Towels
00:03:21Tea towels
00:03:22Slippers
00:03:23Thongs
00:03:24Yes, shoes
00:03:25Anything that was lying on the floor?
00:03:27Yes
00:03:28Okay
00:03:28How did you go about
00:03:29Trying to solve this problem?
00:03:30We would try and put those things
00:03:32Out of reach
00:03:33Yes
00:03:33Alright
00:03:34So we would try and remove the temptation
00:03:37Yep
00:03:37I don't know that it helped
00:03:39Because he would then move his attention to something else
00:03:41So you're going to find something else
00:03:42If you took that away
00:03:43You'd find something else
00:03:43Yeah
00:03:44You've got to be able to stop him
00:03:47From getting hold of something
00:03:48Yeah
00:03:48And so we've got to teach him
00:03:50To leave
00:03:51Yeah
00:03:52That's the important thing
00:03:52Okay
00:03:53Yep
00:03:53We've got to stop
00:03:55Encouraging him
00:03:56To play a game
00:03:59Mm-hmm
00:03:59Because the moment
00:04:01You do what you're doing
00:04:02Chasing him
00:04:04That's the game
00:04:06Which he wins
00:04:07The game's afoot
00:04:08What I want to do
00:04:13Is give you a demonstration
00:04:14Of what to do
00:04:16On a process called leave
00:04:18So the word leave is important
00:04:20Mm-hmm
00:04:21Because that's what you want him to do
00:04:22If he's got a sock
00:04:23Or a
00:04:24You know
00:04:24Back at a rat sack
00:04:26Or something
00:04:26Right
00:04:27Mm-hmm
00:04:27In the hand with five on
00:04:28We've got
00:04:29Cat biscuits
00:04:30And in this hand
00:04:31With a score of ten
00:04:32We've got his favourite food
00:04:33Which is cooked chicken
00:04:35So
00:04:36That goes behind your back
00:04:38Out of the way
00:04:39Yep
00:04:39All right
00:04:40The bait
00:04:42Cat biscuits
00:04:44Value five
00:04:46In my left hand
00:04:47Mm-hmm
00:04:47Okay
00:04:48Righto
00:04:49Here we go
00:04:49He turns off
00:04:55Leave
00:04:56And then
00:04:56Be very quick with the chicken
00:04:58He's off
00:05:03Leave
00:05:04He knows that if he leaves something
00:05:09He'll get something better
00:05:10And now
00:05:11We're going to put
00:05:12The food there
00:05:13This is the ultimate step
00:05:15We're leapfrogging a few things
00:05:17We're spinning it up
00:05:19Because everyone wants to see
00:05:20A result
00:05:21Normally to get to this stage
00:05:23Would take
00:05:24Probably three or four weeks training
00:05:25So what I want you to do
00:05:27Is to walk him up close to that food
00:05:29But don't let him touch it
00:05:30Leave
00:05:34So the moment he's disinterested
00:05:37He gets a reward
00:05:38Your turn
00:05:39Leave
00:05:42Well done
00:05:43So the dog turns off
00:05:46He physically turns away from the food
00:05:49He loses interest for a moment
00:05:50And that's when he gets rewarded
00:05:52But imagine that
00:05:53Was a brown snake
00:05:54Or a packet of rat sack
00:05:56Or even a sock
00:05:58That we don't want him to have
00:05:59Then what do we do
00:06:01We feel like
00:06:02Trump that
00:06:03By giving him something
00:06:04He really doesn't like
00:06:05In the training technique
00:06:07That happens to be chicken
00:06:08When he's out
00:06:09In the park
00:06:10Or wherever
00:06:10It becomes a good boy
00:06:12And a nice pat
00:06:13See I think to Chewy
00:06:18A lot of this is just a game
00:06:19And some of it
00:06:21Is ignited
00:06:22By boredom
00:06:23What am I going to do
00:06:24I'll just pinch this
00:06:25And maybe the first time
00:06:26It happened
00:06:26You laughed at it
00:06:27And that's always
00:06:28A fatal mistake
00:06:29Because that entrenches it
00:06:31In the dog's behaviour
00:06:31Straight away
00:06:32And then you chase after him
00:06:34And it really becomes a game
00:06:35Catch me if you can
00:06:36Okay
00:06:36So leaving him alone
00:06:38And totally ignoring it
00:06:39Is a positive
00:06:40But you've got out on top of that
00:06:41What happens
00:06:42As if this is a noxious material
00:06:43That he's going to pick up
00:06:44So we want to
00:06:45Use the word
00:06:46Leave
00:06:47Or if necessary
00:06:48No
00:06:49To protect this dog's livelihood
00:06:51He's a dog with brains
00:06:52He's a working dog
00:06:53He's very trainable
00:06:54Because he's so food motivated
00:06:56And talking about a food
00:06:57What's time for afternoon tea?
00:07:00I'll have another green tea
00:07:01Don't let me
00:07:02Kettle's on
00:07:02I'll help you set your imagination free
00:07:09With this flat pack hack
00:07:11All right
00:07:12Hit the road
00:07:13For a classic
00:07:14Aussie holiday
00:07:15I just have to survive
00:07:16He's driving first
00:07:17That's an old respect
00:07:19This segment is brought to you
00:07:29By Crusader Caravans
00:07:31Winner of the 2025
00:07:32Caravan Manufacturer of the Year Award
00:07:35All right
00:07:42Hit the road for a classic
00:07:44Aussie holiday
00:07:45I just have to survive
00:07:46He's driving first
00:07:47And it's not my first rodeo
00:07:48The caravanning holidays
00:07:51Really are an Aussie classic
00:07:52And there's a lot of great reasons why
00:07:54We're almost here
00:07:55Well Colin I think people have always liked caravanning
00:08:09But I kind of feel like they're falling in love with the idea of it all over again
00:08:13Yeah you know what I think people are rediscovering this beautiful land of ours again
00:08:17Look where we are today
00:08:19It is spectacular
00:08:20It allows you to get close to nature
00:08:21And best of all you get to share it with the people you love
00:08:23Your family
00:08:24Your friends
00:08:25And meet some new people along the way
00:08:26Now these are Crusader Caravans
00:08:29They're made right here in Australia
00:08:30They've actually just won Manufacturer of the Year
00:08:33Something that they have won
00:08:34Four out of the last six years
00:08:36Four
00:08:36So the creme de la creme
00:08:38Well you know what
00:08:38I can't wait to have a look inside
00:08:40All right
00:08:41Well how about you take that one
00:08:42I'll take this one
00:08:43And then we can meet up afterwards
00:08:44And compare notes
00:08:45The Mad Max
00:08:45Very fastness
00:08:46Right
00:08:47Right up your alley
00:08:49Now I could imagine a couple just lazing back here
00:09:03Either on the chairs or on this incredible bed
00:09:06Luxury is what this caravan is all about
00:09:08It's called the Excalibur Serenity
00:09:10It's basically a luxury semi-off-roader
00:09:13So if you look around
00:09:14Yes there's all these amazing details
00:09:16That you kind of feel like you're in a high-end apartment
00:09:19But there's also a lot of really practical things to admire as well
00:09:22When you're caravanning
00:09:23One of the most important things to consider is storage
00:09:26And honestly everywhere I look here
00:09:28There is an abundance of storage
00:09:30This gets a massive tick from me
00:09:32All right
00:09:39All right
00:09:40I'm in the cross-country Mad Max
00:09:42Look at this
00:09:43Immediately
00:09:44I'm drawn to the kitchen
00:09:46We've got the full-size fridge and freezer
00:09:48And here's the pro tip
00:09:50If you've ever been on the road
00:09:51We've got the double-door pantry
00:09:53Right next to the door
00:09:54So we can unload our food straight away
00:09:57We do not have that annoying leg under the table
00:10:00So someone my size can fit straight in
00:10:02Have dinner
00:10:03Little drink
00:10:05Maybe watch television
00:10:06Who's on tonight?
00:10:07Better Homes and Gardens
00:10:08I love that column guy
00:10:09There's one thing that I noticed immediately
00:10:18As soon as I walked in here
00:10:19It is the ceiling height
00:10:21It is just over two metres high
00:10:23It feels amazing
00:10:24And from a practical point of view
00:10:26I mean look at the kitchen
00:10:27You've got a hybrid gas induction cooktop
00:10:30You've got a full oven
00:10:31A microwave
00:10:32A full-size fridge and freezer
00:10:34But then there's all the attention to detail
00:10:37The things that you notice
00:10:38Everything's so easy to clean
00:10:39All the materials that they've selected
00:10:41Including this beautiful one on the couch
00:10:43Very easy just to wipe down
00:10:45You've got a composite granite stone sink
00:10:47Both here and in the bathroom
00:10:49And then look at that bedroom end
00:10:51Honestly, that is as pretty as a picture
00:10:53And if you want a sense of luxury
00:10:55A velveteen bedhead will give you that
00:10:58Now I'm in the bathroom
00:11:07We've got a toilet
00:11:08A huge amount of storage
00:11:09Plenty of bench space
00:11:11For all of your knick-knacks
00:11:12But what about this?
00:11:14How big is this shower?
00:11:15It's very rare to have a shower
00:11:17With this generous the size
00:11:18In any caravan
00:11:19So a lot of people
00:11:25When they go caravanning
00:11:26Discover that their caravans
00:11:27Aren't particularly well insulated
00:11:28Which means that they cook themselves
00:11:30In summer
00:11:30And absolutely freeze in winter
00:11:33Not Crusader caravans
00:11:35These guys are really well insulated
00:11:37They actually have a full composite material
00:11:39They use called Crusader Ecolite
00:11:41And the result is
00:11:42This is really super comfortable
00:11:44In any conditions
00:11:45Now I mentioned that
00:11:46They're Australia-made
00:11:47A family business
00:11:48Built here in this country
00:11:50In one of the most advanced
00:11:51Manufacturing plants that we have
00:11:53This is so epic
00:11:57Be still my beating heart
00:11:59I've literally never been
00:12:00In a caravan
00:12:01That has ceilings that high
00:12:03Where I didn't even feel
00:12:04Even slightly claustrophobic
00:12:05That doesn't happen for someone my size
00:12:07Well are you ready?
00:12:08Yes
00:12:09It's got under-van protection
00:12:10It's got hydraulic disc brakes
00:12:13It's got airbag suspension
00:12:15It's got solar
00:12:16That keeps you off the grid for longer
00:12:18Why don't we put it to the test
00:12:19How about you actually
00:12:20Go back to something
00:12:21I know you love caravans
00:12:22But it's something you might love
00:12:23Even as much
00:12:24Cooking
00:12:25You're talking my language
00:12:27Yay
00:12:27Wow
00:12:33It just keeps coming
00:12:34Look at the
00:12:35Full sink at the end
00:12:36That's epic
00:12:37So I'll cook
00:12:38You sit back and relax
00:12:39And then you can score it over ten
00:12:41To ten
00:12:43How the tables have turned
00:12:44To ten
00:12:44The cook's coming up
00:12:45A little bit later
00:12:46Flat pack and off-the-shelf pieces
00:12:48Are practical
00:12:49But I'm going to show you
00:12:50How to make them pretty too
00:12:51Nothing lightens and brightens an area
00:12:55Like a fresh coat of paint
00:12:57The best part of warmer weather
00:13:00Has to be outdoor entertaining
00:13:02Enjoying food in the sunshine
00:13:04With family and friends
00:13:05In this month's magazine
00:13:06There's a host of recipes
00:13:08To help you be the most popular cook
00:13:10At barbecues and picnics
00:13:12Like these classic Aussie burgers
00:13:14Plus skewers, wings
00:13:15And a show-stopping lemon tiramisu
00:13:18Plus vote to win
00:13:19An appliance prize pack worth thou
00:13:21Check out the People's Choice Appliance Awards
00:13:24Where you can vote in the shortlist
00:13:26For the very best fridges
00:13:27Air fryers
00:13:28Vacuums
00:13:28And more
00:13:29Without a doubt
00:13:42Citrus are the most common plants
00:13:44In people's gardens today
00:13:46Even on a balcony
00:13:47People downsizing
00:13:49You'll want to grow a citrus in a tub
00:13:51Because we're just so hooked
00:13:52Into the favours of the fruit
00:13:54The range is just getting bigger
00:13:55Believe it or not
00:13:56There are more citrus today available
00:13:58Different types
00:13:59Than what there were
00:14:0030 or 40 years ago
00:14:01Now this is a Maya lemon
00:14:03Fabulous fruit
00:14:04And it's a really thin skin
00:14:05Lovely soft skin
00:14:07And packed full of beautiful juice
00:14:09By the way
00:14:10The netting
00:14:11Is to protect it from bats
00:14:13And also possums
00:14:14That get up there
00:14:15And cockatoos
00:14:16They will defoliate your tree
00:14:18Now never leave your fruit
00:14:20That's fallen onto the ground
00:14:21Because it'll start to go mouldy
00:14:23And those spores
00:14:24Just go into the soil
00:14:25Now one of them's been pecked by a bird
00:14:27It's already going off there
00:14:29Any insects or diseases
00:14:30That are in that fruit
00:14:31Goes into the soil
00:14:32And it just waits for it to warm up
00:14:34And lovely spring and summer days
00:14:36And bingo
00:14:36You've got insects all over the shop
00:14:38So pick up that fruit
00:14:40It's lying on the ground
00:14:41And put it in the green bin
00:14:42Now I notice they've got vinegar flies
00:14:44All over one of the fruit
00:14:46That's already going off inside there
00:14:48These are the sorts of things
00:14:49You really need to keep an eye on
00:14:51Kaffer lime has been used
00:14:53Especially in Thailand
00:14:54But right through Oasia
00:14:55For flavouring food
00:14:57And of course it really is fabulous
00:14:58But it's not the fruit
00:14:59It's the leaves
00:15:00Now they've changed the name of this thing
00:15:02It's called makrat lime
00:15:04So the makrat lime
00:15:05Is the old kaffer lime
00:15:06Same thing
00:15:07But remember the fruit
00:15:08Is neither here nor there
00:15:09But it's the leaves
00:15:10That have that great flavour
00:15:12And of course
00:15:13Kalamondan or kumquats
00:15:15These are variegated kumquats
00:15:17Great for a balcony
00:15:18Or a veranda
00:15:19Because they're ornamental
00:15:20To look at
00:15:21Then they produce
00:15:22The beautiful fruit
00:15:23Which you can pierce
00:15:24And put into liqueurs
00:15:26Or make great uses of
00:15:27And in a nice terracotta pot
00:15:29In a dwarf rootstock
00:15:31Absolutely perfect
00:15:33And look at this orange
00:15:35What a fabulous navel orange
00:15:37It's been pruned back nicely
00:15:38It's making lots of new growth
00:15:40And the fruit
00:15:40Have been harvested
00:15:42For this season
00:15:43Raise the beds up
00:15:44If you possibly can
00:15:45Or into pots
00:15:46For good drainage
00:15:47But always keep an eye out
00:15:49Right through
00:15:50Spring, summer
00:15:51And autumn
00:15:52For any of those insects
00:15:53So if you're using
00:15:54The horticultural oils
00:15:55That'll keep them at bay
00:15:56And they're bee friendly
00:15:58Which is even better
00:15:59And off the shelf picture frame
00:16:08And a flat pack cabinet like this
00:16:09Are great tools
00:16:10When you're decorating
00:16:11Because they're easy
00:16:12Practical and quick
00:16:14But you don't get to show off
00:16:15Any of your own
00:16:16Individual personality
00:16:17Or style
00:16:17So I've got some great ideas
00:16:19That will turn these
00:16:20Into one of a kind
00:16:21The reason flat pack furniture
00:16:28Is so affordable
00:16:30Is because
00:16:30It's usually standard sizes
00:16:32And a whole lot of straight lines
00:16:34Which means it's easy
00:16:35To manufacture
00:16:35And then transport
00:16:36And sell
00:16:37Keeping the costs down
00:16:39But it also means
00:16:40That it can look kind of bland
00:16:41So for my cabinet
00:16:43I'm going to give it
00:16:43Some really interesting legs
00:16:44And turn it into
00:16:45A bit of a style statement
00:16:46For any room
00:16:47To do that
00:16:48I need a couple of pieces
00:16:49Of this project ply
00:16:50The first piece
00:16:51This smaller piece
00:16:52Is going to be the base
00:16:53And that's going to sit
00:16:54Underneath the cabinet
00:16:55The second piece
00:16:56Is what the legs
00:16:57Are going to attach into
00:16:58And I've measured it out
00:16:59So that the smaller piece
00:17:00Will sit perfectly centred
00:17:02Now I'm just going to join
00:17:03The two of them together
00:17:05Temporarily
00:17:05So that it all lines up
00:17:07I'm going to give the legs
00:17:16A curved shape
00:17:17So to help create that
00:17:18I've marked out
00:17:19The base piece of timber
00:17:20I've placed on there
00:17:21The shape of the smaller piece
00:17:23And then found the centre point
00:17:25And each halfway point
00:17:27Of the halves
00:17:28It'll make sense in a minute
00:17:29Then to help create
00:17:31That curved shape
00:17:32I'm just going to pop in
00:17:33Some nails
00:17:33I'm using some sparkies
00:17:44Cable feeder
00:17:45Which you can just pick up
00:17:46In the electrical department
00:17:47Of the hardware store
00:17:48To wrap around these nails
00:17:51And you'll see
00:17:51That creates that lovely S shape
00:17:55Now you want to make sure
00:17:56That the cable feeder lines up
00:17:59With the line indicating
00:18:00The edge of the lower piece
00:18:01Of timber
00:18:02And the same at the other end
00:18:04Just mark out there
00:18:05That edge
00:18:06So you've got each end
00:18:08Now the foot is going to be
00:18:16Five centimetres wide
00:18:18So I've got this little
00:18:19Two and a half centimetre block
00:18:20That I'm going to run
00:18:21Either side
00:18:22Of the curve
00:18:23And that will give me
00:18:25The five centimetre width
00:18:27That I need
00:18:27Now if you're getting lost
00:18:39With any of this
00:18:40Please don't worry
00:18:41We will send you
00:18:41A detailed fact sheet
00:18:43If you email us
00:18:44At tvinquiries
00:18:45At seven dot com dot au
00:18:47Alright
00:18:48Now the reason
00:18:48I have used
00:18:49This cable feeder
00:18:51Is so that I can
00:18:51Evenly place
00:18:52The feet
00:18:53Along here
00:18:54And I have measured out
00:18:56From mark
00:18:57To mark
00:18:58This length
00:18:59And I know I've got
00:19:00Nineteen legs
00:19:01So I need
00:19:02Eighteen spaces
00:19:03And I've actually
00:19:05Created this spacer
00:19:06To mark the centre point
00:19:08Of each leg
00:19:09And I've set it in
00:19:10Eleven mil
00:19:11Because the dowel
00:19:13I'm using
00:19:13Is twenty two mil
00:19:14In diameter
00:19:15Now I just need
00:19:29To drill
00:19:29And countersink
00:19:30The holes
00:19:30For the feet
00:19:31And you'll see
00:19:32Why I joined
00:19:33These two pieces
00:19:33Earlier
00:19:34It is so
00:19:35That these line up
00:19:36Absolutely perfectly
00:19:37With all the holes
00:19:49Now in place
00:19:50I can set
00:19:50This smaller piece
00:19:51Aside
00:19:51And
00:19:53Using the jigsaw
00:19:54I can cut out
00:19:55This S shape
00:19:56I am not for God
00:19:58I said to be
00:20:01I am not for God
00:20:03But the mind
00:20:04Is what you do
00:20:05Now just a quick
00:20:17Tidy up
00:20:18With a light sand
00:20:19I have the top
00:20:29And I have the base
00:20:30Now I just need
00:20:31Some legs
00:20:31So for that
00:20:32I'm using
00:20:32This dowel
00:20:33Before I put
00:20:41All of these
00:20:42Together
00:20:42I'm going to
00:20:43Give it a coat
00:20:44Of black stain
00:20:45And I'm using
00:20:45Proof tint
00:20:46Because it gives
00:20:46A beautiful
00:20:47Flat finish
00:20:48And it will
00:20:48Match the original
00:20:49Cabinet
00:20:50Perfectly
00:20:50I'm going to
00:20:51Wear gloves
00:20:52Because this stuff
00:20:53Really does stain
00:20:54I am a resilient man
00:20:56Let me load it
00:20:58In the dark
00:20:59I still have room
00:21:01Left in my heart
00:21:02For you
00:21:03For you
00:21:05I still have room
00:21:07Left in my heart
00:21:09With the stain dry
00:21:10I've given everything
00:21:11A coat of timber wax
00:21:12Just to protect it
00:21:13And now I'm going
00:21:13To attach the legs
00:21:15Now I just have
00:21:33To attach
00:21:34The final piece
00:21:36All right
00:21:45The legs are on
00:21:46I just need to
00:21:47Attach them to the top
00:21:48And the transformation
00:21:48Will be complete
00:21:49I'm so happy
00:21:58With how this turned out
00:21:59It's so chic
00:22:00And might I suggest
00:22:01The perfect height
00:22:02For a cocktail bar
00:22:03And remember
00:22:04That picture frame
00:22:05Well I love
00:22:06Hanging artworks
00:22:07From a picture rail
00:22:08But if you don't
00:22:09Have one of those
00:22:09Why not use
00:22:10A brass rod
00:22:11Like this one
00:22:12And then
00:22:13If you attach
00:22:14Some chain
00:22:15To the back
00:22:16Of your frame
00:22:17You can create
00:22:18A really stylish
00:22:19Gallery style display
00:22:21Now that you've
00:22:27Seen this
00:22:27And know that
00:22:28You can make it
00:22:28Uniquely yours
00:22:29You will never look
00:22:30At flat pack furniture
00:22:31The same way again
00:22:32Coming up
00:22:44We're taking
00:22:45Campsite cuisine
00:22:46Up a notch
00:22:47That is my
00:22:48Smashed
00:22:49A beef
00:22:50Pitta
00:22:50With
00:22:51I would say
00:22:52Trendy garnish
00:22:53Trendy garnish
00:22:54Are Adam and Melissa
00:22:56Heading into a rough passage
00:22:58Ta-da
00:22:59Wow
00:22:59Melissa
00:23:00I'll tell you what
00:23:01This has to be
00:23:02One of the worst
00:23:03Size of houses
00:23:04I've ever seen
00:23:05And even a bland
00:23:06Front yard
00:23:07Can still come up roses
00:23:09Thank you
00:23:10It's an amazing job
00:23:11Charlie
00:23:11I love it
00:23:12I love it
00:23:12This segment is brought to you by British Paints
00:23:23You're better off with British Paints
00:23:26You know what Melissa
00:23:28There is one thing I never get tired of
00:23:30What's that
00:23:31Let's see a fixer-upper
00:23:32Come back to life
00:23:33All your hard work
00:23:34Just paying off
00:23:35That is the best part
00:23:36I think
00:23:37But budget also comes into play
00:23:39Doesn't it
00:23:39And in a house like this
00:23:41Often you start with the inside
00:23:42And you get beautiful rooms
00:23:44That look like this
00:23:44But then the outdoors
00:23:45Well let me show you
00:23:47Let's have a look
00:23:47Ta-da
00:23:50Wow
00:23:51Melissa I'll tell you what
00:23:52This has to be
00:23:53One of the worst
00:23:54Size of houses
00:23:55I've ever seen
00:23:56I mean
00:23:56It's almost fair to say
00:23:57This is unsafe
00:23:58I don't even think
00:23:59The homeowners will come out here
00:24:00Yeah
00:24:00And I think
00:24:01Side areas are notoriously difficult
00:24:03Right
00:24:03But I think
00:24:04Between the two of us
00:24:05Come on
00:24:05We can turn this into
00:24:06A beautiful hidden retreat
00:24:07Well I believe it too
00:24:08Because look how beautiful
00:24:10These bricks are
00:24:10I'm loving this rustic
00:24:11Good bones
00:24:12Yeah
00:24:13You know
00:24:13But I think we can make
00:24:14The most of this area
00:24:15And of course
00:24:15Yeah it means
00:24:16We have to start
00:24:17With a good old fashioned
00:24:18Clear out
00:24:18Now this might look like
00:24:36An unused space
00:24:37But actually
00:24:37That's the laundry door there
00:24:38So it's access to the backyard
00:24:40And Adam's making sure
00:24:41We can actually see this space
00:24:43From the bedroom window
00:24:44Now from a design perspective
00:24:45A few little challenges here
00:24:47First of all
00:24:48It's shady
00:24:48So I'll need to think about that
00:24:49With my plant selection
00:24:50Secondly
00:24:51Because we have this brick pathway
00:24:53There's no room for planting
00:24:55So I'm going to solve that
00:24:56With some big troughs
00:24:57That give me some great opportunities
00:24:59Some really good planting displays
00:25:01Then we're going to use
00:25:02Some narrow plants as well
00:25:03For a little bit of screening
00:25:04Got some nice little design ideas
00:25:06With a little table tucked in there
00:25:08For a nice little coffee nook
00:25:09But at the moment
00:25:10Ads that's a pretty big step
00:25:12Yeah definitely
00:25:13I mean the old stairs
00:25:14They were absolutely destroyed
00:25:16So we will be putting new stairs in here
00:25:18And then also
00:25:19A new pane of glass
00:25:20And I'll tell you what
00:25:21How beautiful is the view going to be
00:25:24When you're relaxing in bed
00:25:25Yeah that's perfect
00:25:26But you know what really lifts the space
00:25:28Good coat of paint
00:25:29And this really needs it
00:25:30So I've got some colour ideas
00:25:31To really lift this whole area
00:25:32Absolutely love it
00:25:33Well I'll tell you what
00:25:34This can be a deal
00:25:35You look after the paint
00:25:36I'll get the pressure washer out
00:25:37And clean these bricks
00:25:38I know why you've made that deal
00:25:40I'm the one who likes the painting
00:25:41I don't know what she's talking about
00:25:43When it comes to painting
00:25:55Choosing colour is the fun part
00:25:56But it's not the only thing to think about
00:25:58Because we're spending a lot of time
00:25:59Refreshing that space
00:26:00We want the paint job
00:26:02To last a really really long time
00:26:04So I'm using British Paint's
00:26:05Four Seasons to Fence exterior
00:26:07Now have a look at this colour
00:26:08This is called Ace of Spades
00:26:11It's the perfect colour for painting our fence
00:26:14Makes the fence disappear in the background
00:26:16And it's a perfect backdrop for green foliage
00:26:19So just start by giving the paint
00:26:21A really good thorough stir
00:26:23And do a little bit of brush prep
00:26:26So I like to brush
00:26:28Or just whack the bristles
00:26:29Back and forth
00:26:30Just to remove any dust
00:26:32And then because we're using
00:26:34A water-based paint
00:26:35I'm soaking the brushes in water
00:26:37And you just remove any excess
00:26:40Everyone ran for cover then
00:26:42Sorry guys
00:26:43Remove any excess water
00:26:45Before you get started
00:26:46Throwing petals like
00:26:48Do you love me at night
00:26:50Head is spinning in
00:26:53And don't know when to stop
00:26:54Ships it forever babe
00:26:57There's your minute and night
00:26:58That gurney made a huge difference
00:27:03Yeah did
00:27:04You've been busy
00:27:04Now I'm just dirty and a knife again
00:27:06Yeah that was really good planning
00:27:08Oh I know
00:27:09Oh I know
00:27:09But this is a great way
00:27:11To get some steps
00:27:12If you need them at your house
00:27:13Depending on the rise that you have
00:27:16Here I only need one tread
00:27:18But you can buy them
00:27:18In all different sizes
00:27:19So it's an easy way
00:27:21Screw all together
00:27:22And I've just added some H4 posts
00:27:24On the side
00:27:24And concreting them in
00:27:25But she don't need no one
00:27:33These daylight and diamonds
00:27:36All of the clouds roll away
00:27:39She's sunny like central pain
00:27:43Now this is an old fence
00:27:44So there's lots of nooks and crannies to get into
00:27:46I'm just using a brush on the railings
00:27:49I'll do it on the posts
00:27:50I'm just going a little bit above and below those railings
00:27:54Just any places that the roller can't get to
00:27:56And then I can roll out the rest
00:27:58To replace the pane of glass
00:28:16I've just got a new panel that I've had cut to size
00:28:18The first step is just to get some clear silicone
00:28:20Run that all the way around the perimeter
00:28:23And then sit your new pane in place
00:28:25All right with the glass in place
00:28:42Now I've just got these little tacks
00:28:45And I'm going to put a couple on each side
00:28:48And that will hold the window in place
00:28:50Now a good tip here is
00:28:52Because they're so small
00:28:53And I've got pretty big fingers
00:28:54Just to get some long nose pliers
00:28:56And you can hold them in place
00:28:58And just get a bit of off cut of cardboard
00:29:00Sit that on the glass
00:29:02That way you can hold the nail where you want it
00:29:05Simply sit the hammer on the cardboard
00:29:07And you can just slide it back and forth
00:29:09As you tack it in
00:29:10And that way you've got no chance of breaking the glass
00:29:13All right now the reason why I've put these tacks in
00:29:29Is because now I'm going to be using some glazing putty
00:29:33To go around this whole perimeter
00:29:35And that will actually be what holds this pane in place
00:29:37But the thing is
00:29:39This will take up to a month to set
00:29:41So we need to put these tacks in
00:29:43Because that will hold the window in the meantime
00:29:45Now when it comes to putting the putty in place
00:29:48You can simply just scrape it out
00:29:50And you want to have your spatula on about a 45 degree angle
00:29:52Just working between the two points
00:29:55So the bead that's on the inside of the window
00:29:57And then this bead on the outside of the window
00:29:59And simply go around the whole thing
00:30:01I'm going to get stuck into painting this brick wall
00:30:14And I'm using this colour here
00:30:16So this is called Love Note
00:30:17It's a cool white colour
00:30:19That has just a little hint of grey in it
00:30:21And because this is quite a dark shady area
00:30:23It'll really lighten and brighten this space
00:30:26So this is a self-priming paint
00:30:38Which means you don't need an undercoat
00:30:40That means you can get through the wall much quicker
00:30:43I've got lots of paint on the roller
00:30:45I've been using a thick nap
00:30:47About 20 mils
00:30:48Which is perfect for a brick wall like this or render
00:30:50And I'm using a roller pole
00:30:52So I can apply a little bit more pressure
00:30:55And really get into those grooves in the mortar
00:30:57Oh, look at you go, Melissa
00:31:09This is looking great
00:31:10What a difference of fresh coat of paint, mate
00:31:12Absolutely
00:31:13It's a big change
00:31:14And we're nearly finished
00:31:15I've just got a pop of colour in mind
00:31:17For the sills and the windows
00:31:18And best of all
00:31:19It's going to provide the perfect backdrop
00:31:21For a gorgeous collection of plants
00:31:22Yes, and I can say from this bedroom
00:31:24The view is looking fantastic
00:31:26Why, thank you
00:31:27And this is all coming up a little later
00:31:30Well, listen, right
00:31:33You're on the road with the caravan
00:31:35Yep
00:31:35Everyone thinks you need to eat cheap and nasty
00:31:38You can eat trendy and healthy
00:31:40And that's what we're going to do today
00:31:41Ooh, nice
00:31:42We all love a north-facing garden
00:31:45But without plants, it can be very uninviting
00:31:47If gardening is your passion
00:31:50Check us out on 7 Plus

00:31:54Plus, explore hundreds of beautiful gardens
00:31:57From all around the world
00:31:59And lots more
00:32:00Well, Colin and I have been having the best fun
00:32:15Checking out the most extraordinary Australian-made caravans
00:32:19And we thought, why are we just talking about it?
00:32:21Why don't you put it to the test
00:32:22So this good man next to me is offered to cook?
00:32:25Well, I wouldn't say offered
00:32:26But we're here
00:32:27Okay, I begged you to cook
00:32:29But what are you going to make?
00:32:30Alright, so here's the thing
00:32:31Trends, right
00:32:32We've had smash burgers
00:32:34Yeah
00:32:34We've had different types of smash burgers
00:32:36But listen, right
00:32:37You're on the road with the caravan
00:32:39Yep
00:32:39Everyone thinks you need to eat cheap and nasty
00:32:41You can eat trendy and healthy
00:32:44And that's what we're going to do today
00:32:45Ooh, nice
00:32:46So we're going to do a beautiful pita bread
00:32:48We're going to do some beautiful beef
00:32:50Yeah
00:32:51We're going to flavour it, spice it
00:32:52As little as much as you want
00:32:53And we're going to put some great toppings on it
00:32:56And you're on the road
00:32:57Or off the grid
00:32:59Okay, we've got a kilo of beef into the bowl
00:33:05So what we're going to do is
00:33:08We're going to spice it
00:33:09So obviously if you've got kids
00:33:10You don't want to have too much spices
00:33:12Yeah
00:33:12So we've got some cumin
00:33:14We've got two tablespoons of cumin
00:33:16Coriander seeds, two tablespoons
00:33:21What's next, Jo?
00:33:28Paprika, smoked paprika
00:33:29Two tablespoons
00:33:30It's pretty easy, two, two, two
00:33:32You can do one if you want
00:33:34If you don't like too much paprika
00:33:35In you go
00:33:36Right, salt and pepper
00:33:37Salt and pepper, you can do the salt and pepper
00:33:39Okay
00:33:39Also we've got two tablespoons of fennel seeds
00:33:44So the fennel seeds add that beautiful fennel essence
00:33:47And that little bit of crunch when you fry it
00:33:49So now we're just going to give it a mix
00:33:52Obviously if you like it a bit hot
00:33:53You can add some chopped chilli
00:33:55Yep
00:33:55You can add some coriander now if you want it like that
00:33:57So we're going to go for about six
00:33:59So we want to divide that into six
00:34:00All right, so let's get it into six even balls
00:34:06You've actually done quite a bit of caravaning yourself, haven't you?
00:34:08I love caravaning
00:34:09Yeah
00:34:09I had a caravan many years ago I bought off a friend
00:34:12My kids were young, I'd hit the road
00:34:14I was cooking, making pizzas, making bread
00:34:18I was full on
00:34:19And six became seven, which is a bonus
00:34:22Yeah
00:34:22Basically, they talk about burgers
00:34:25But it's not two pieces of bread
00:34:27It's one piece of bread
00:34:28And you basically just
00:34:30Squish it down
00:34:31To all the way to the edge
00:34:33You don't want it too thick
00:34:35Yeah
00:34:35Because you want it to cook quickly, don't you?
00:34:37Yep
00:34:37All the way to the edge
00:34:39Yeah
00:34:39Now what I've got here is some buckwheat
00:34:41Now buckwheat sounds very, very fancy
00:34:44What does it actually do?
00:34:45It's very healthy for you
00:34:46Yeah, it is good for you
00:34:47And it's a little, gives it a little bit of crunch
00:34:48Ah
00:34:49So when you fry it, it crunches up
00:34:50Nice
00:34:52And you just press it in there
00:34:54Right
00:34:54Can you do that while I turn on the stove?
00:34:56Oh yes, sure
00:34:57I might just wait to turn on the stove in a minute
00:35:00Oh, you're a rat bag
00:35:01Go on, go and do something
00:35:04All right, watch this
00:35:06Yeah
00:35:07Because I had a little look at this earlier
00:35:08So basically, on, fire, strata
00:35:11On
00:35:12How much are you loving also the height of it?
00:35:15Yeah, yeah
00:35:15Instead of having to bend over a little camp stove
00:35:17I know
00:35:18Look at the view
00:35:19Can I grab the oil, please?
00:35:23Oh yes, of course
00:35:24I'd love to help you out
00:35:24Thank you, love
00:35:25We should cook more often together
00:35:29Yeah, I've never heard you this polite
00:35:30We're on holiday
00:35:34Oil on hot
00:35:38Yep
00:35:39Our seeds are going to crisp up
00:35:41We're going to cook the meat
00:35:42And that'll be soft and pillowy
00:35:44Nice
00:35:44It's like a cheetah's pizza slash
00:35:48Burger
00:35:49Smash burger
00:35:49Yeah
00:35:50Yeah, it's like a combo
00:35:51A rombo combo of a whole lot of little trendy dishes
00:35:53So what you want to do is just press that down
00:35:56Do you hear that sizzle?
00:35:57Yep, sure can
00:35:58All right, Jo, how long has that been?
00:36:06Yeah, like a minute
00:36:07A minute and a half
00:36:08Let's have a look
00:36:09Give it a quick turn
00:36:11Oh, yum
00:36:12That looks great
00:36:12See that it's caramelised already
00:36:14It's already cooked
00:36:15Strike number two
00:36:19Clever
00:36:20Beautiful
00:36:22All right
00:36:23We've just pulled up
00:36:24We've set up camp
00:36:25It's getting dark
00:36:26The kids are off playing with other kids
00:36:29But we need to get them fed soon
00:36:30You listening, Jo?
00:36:32I am
00:36:32I'm paying attention like you would not believe
00:36:34All right
00:36:36So rest that to the side
00:36:38Right
00:36:38We've got some avocado
00:36:41So this is where we get the nourishment in
00:36:44So just cook my avocado in half
00:36:48Yep
00:36:48Score
00:36:49Scoop
00:36:51No
00:36:53No
00:36:53Hold
00:36:54Hold
00:36:55If you score and square and press
00:36:58We've got the dice
00:37:01All right, so we've got our avocado
00:37:03It's on one side
00:37:04We've got some beautiful feta
00:37:07And now we've got what it is
00:37:11Pomegranate seeds
00:37:14Bit of mint, bit of parsley
00:37:16Mmm, smell that mint
00:37:18We'll give that a quick run through
00:37:21Do you want any little lemon zest at it or?
00:37:24Of course, you know me very well
00:37:25We get our pomegranate seeds
00:37:28So we've got the crunch of the buckwheat
00:37:37We've got the crunch of the pomegranate
00:37:39And the sweetness
00:37:39And now we're going to add a little bit of creaminess
00:37:42With the avocado
00:37:43Mm-hmm
00:37:44So it's like, you know, scattering
00:37:46Think of a pizza
00:37:47The toppings all around it
00:37:48Mm-hmm
00:37:49You're just agreeing with me now, aren't you?
00:37:50I am
00:37:51Yeah
00:37:52Next he's going to say
00:37:53The saltiness of the feta
00:37:54So next we've got the saltiness of the feta
00:37:57Which goes on
00:37:58Like you eat with your eyes
00:38:00It looks pretty
00:38:01It does look pretty
00:38:02Hit it with the zest
00:38:04Mm-hmm
00:38:05Now the juice
00:38:09Oh, the juice first
00:38:10I can't let you cut that
00:38:11I haven't got the knife
00:38:11I'm doing the herbs
00:38:14Oh
00:38:14Don't want to overwork you
00:38:17Gorgeous
00:38:19Look at that
00:38:20And now we're going to hit it
00:38:22With the parsley and the mint
00:38:24Lovely
00:38:25And then we'll just play it up
00:38:27I mean that
00:38:28At a campsite
00:38:29It's got all the flavours you know
00:38:31Hang on
00:38:33I'll just present you
00:38:34Oh, thank you
00:38:36And even better
00:38:37No plates to wash up
00:38:39You can just eat it straight
00:38:41That is my smashed beef pitta
00:38:45With, I would say, trendy garnish
00:38:48Trendy garnish
00:38:49Let's have a taste
00:38:50Cheers
00:38:51You go first, cheers
00:38:52You go first
00:38:53Oh, that's really good

00:39:57When I moved from the northern hemisphere to Australia
00:40:16There's a few things that challenged everything I knew about nature
00:40:19Some of them were myths
00:40:20Like the toilet water spiralling in the other direction
00:40:22But some were very true
00:40:24In the northern hemisphere, you want a south-facing garden
00:40:29But here in Australia, the ideal one is a north-facing one
00:40:32Because it gets more light and you can grow more plants
00:40:34But if you've got a limited space like this
00:40:36And this amount of brick
00:40:37Well, it's quite harsh
00:40:38The weeds will come in quickly
00:40:39And it's pretty uninviting
00:40:40So the team and I are here to help homeowner Joanne
00:40:43Transform the front of her garden
00:40:44And make it more welcoming
00:40:45Joanne, lovely to see you
00:40:49Hi, how are you?
00:40:50Very well, you have some roses I can see
00:40:52I do
00:40:53You like the roses?
00:40:54I love roses
00:40:55Have you tried anything else out here or are you just a roses girl?
00:40:57I'm more of a roses girl but it's boring
00:40:59It needs something to make it more, you know, more inviting
00:41:02Okay, do you find it gets quite hot out here as well?
00:41:05Very warm, yeah, especially in the morning
00:41:06Yeah, and that's a lot to do with the brickwork
00:41:08So I think by bringing in more plants, we'll soften it and just make it more welcoming too
00:41:11That'd be fantastic
00:41:12Okay, leave it with us
00:41:13Thank you
00:41:14By widening our garden beds, our plants are going to be healthier
00:41:27And we're going to be able to get more plants in as well
00:41:29But I'm also going to wrap the garden beds around so they go down the path as well
00:41:32That's going to make the whole thing feel less one-dimensional
00:41:35The first thing we need to do is get rid of the weeds
00:41:37With the weeds gone and the beds much larger
00:41:51I can really take a look at these roses and do a bit of pruning on them
00:41:54Work out exactly what needs to be done
00:41:56I'm going to tackle this one first because it's the oldest and least healthiest looking one
00:42:00The first thing I'm going to do is take off some of this growth down here
00:42:03Now this is off the rootstock
00:42:04And all the energy that's gone into growing this can go into growing the nicer looking plant at the top
00:42:09So this comes off to start with
00:42:11And then I'm going to look at the rest of the plant
00:42:13You can see this whole branch here is completely dead
00:42:16So I'm going to use secateurs
00:42:18I'm going to use a saw
00:42:19And I'm just going to remove this
00:42:20And then I'll take a look at the rest of the plant
00:42:22Now this is just a horticultural oil which will take care of those aphids
00:42:37And when the whole garden bed is planted out
00:42:38We're going to give them a really good feed
00:42:40Because strong healthy plants are more pest and disease resistant
00:42:43This project isn't all about soft landscaping
00:42:58I'm adding in a couple of hard elements as well
00:42:59A stepping stone on either side of the path
00:43:01So you can still get the mower through to service the lawn
00:43:04And then some garden edging to stop the lawn from growing into the new garden beds
00:43:07I know you do like a bit of gardening
00:43:30So you'd be happy to help me get some plants in the ground
00:43:32Sure will
00:43:32Okay, I think we'll start with either side of the path
00:43:34Now I'm going to use this lavender
00:43:36This one is really well suited to Sydney climate
00:43:39So it can take the humid conditions called Sidonie
00:43:41It's got, I quite like the flowers
00:43:43The way they're kind of quite erratic and off the plant
00:43:45So I thought having those either side of the path
00:43:47Would be really nice when you come home
00:43:48Cool, that sounds lovely
00:43:49Alright, you start with that one
00:43:50I'll grab some more
00:43:51Thank you
00:43:52Just a long hill
00:43:53Yep, we'll do three either side
00:44:00This one's called Petite Jenny
00:44:10Oh, it's pretty
00:44:11Yeah, it's nice, isn't it?
00:44:13Goes well with the house
00:44:14It does, it's really nice
00:44:15And it goes well with the salvia pink as well
00:44:17Yeah
00:44:17It ties in really lovely
00:44:19I absolutely love these little trough pots
00:44:30We've got the miniature roses
00:44:31And then the paper daisies
00:44:34Beautiful
00:44:35When they finish flowering
00:44:36Yeah
00:44:37You just want to give them a little bit of a trim
00:44:39Just to deadhead them
00:44:40Same with the roses
00:44:41Once they finish flowering
00:44:42Just deadhead them with secateurs
00:44:43It's going to give us denser growth
00:44:45Better flowers
00:44:46And you'll probably get some repeat flowering out of it
00:44:48Beautiful
00:44:48Look as good as this
00:44:49For a long time to come
00:44:51That's beautiful
00:44:51They look good, don't they?
00:44:52They look great
00:44:53So, Joanne, the last thing we're going to do
00:44:56Is pot these magnolias up
00:44:58Now, this variety is called teddy bear
00:45:00It stays really small
00:45:01And it quite likes being in a pot
00:45:02It's probably the smallest of the evergreen magnolias
00:45:05And it's really columnar
00:45:06So it's not going to take over too much space
00:45:08And you can prune it with secateurs
00:45:09And it won't look out of shape
00:45:11Beautiful
00:45:14Now, if this was my place
00:45:15I'd probably try and grow it up
00:45:17And maybe have an archway over the front door
00:45:19Or something like that
00:45:19Or you can just leave them
00:45:21To do their own thing
00:45:22So, Joanne, feel free to sprinkle some fertilizer
00:45:38Either side of the path
00:45:40Now, because we've got so many flowers here
00:45:43And the roses already are heavy feeders
00:45:45We need to give them the best nutrition we can
00:45:47So I'm using Rich Grow Black Marble Rose and Flower Food
00:45:49It's good for roses and all your flowers
00:45:51It's got everything your plants need
00:45:53It's got lots of nitrogen and iron
00:45:54For glossy green leaves
00:45:56You've got potash
00:45:57To give you really big, beautiful flowers
00:45:59But it's also got a wetting agent as well
00:46:01So you know it's going to get deep watering as well
00:46:03Now, the granules are great for the garden beds
00:46:06I've also got a liquid which is better for the pots
00:46:08And you can apply it, you know, all the way through
00:46:10Up until winter now
00:46:11Every four to eight weeks
00:46:12Just sprinkle some around
00:46:13You won't have a problem
00:46:14Do you have to water it in?
00:46:15Always a good idea with any fertilizer
00:46:17To give it a really good watering in
00:46:18Beautiful
00:46:18Yeah
00:46:19Joanne, I said that I would make your front garden
00:46:29More welcoming
00:46:30And one final touch
00:46:31You're welcome, Matt, of course
00:46:33Thank you, it's an amazing job, Charlie
00:46:36I love it
00:46:36It's so beautiful
00:46:37It's really inspiring
00:46:38The brightness of it
00:46:47The way it makes you feel
00:46:48It makes you happy
00:46:49I'm glad you like it
00:46:50Yeah
00:46:51What you need to do though
00:46:52Is keep up with the watering and the feeding
00:46:53And it's going to reward you
00:46:54All the way through the warmer months
00:46:56You're not going to come back?
00:46:57Well, you did help out
00:46:59Coming up
00:47:10Clarissa's taking your peanut butter addiction
00:47:13To new heights
00:47:14A perfect afternoon tea snack
00:47:17For your whole family
00:47:18Plus from diamond in the rough
00:47:21To a view with the room
00:47:23Adam and Melissa are working their magic
00:47:26Ha ha, look at that
00:47:28An instant hedge
00:47:29It is, looks really good
00:47:30Sometimes the simple things are the best
00:47:40And my peanut cookies are just that
00:47:43Five ingredients
00:47:4420 minutes to prep
00:47:4620 minutes to bake
00:47:48And you will have the best
00:47:50After school snacks
00:47:51For your kids
00:47:52With the peanuts
00:47:59Here I have peanuts that are salted
00:48:02You can use unsalted peanuts
00:48:05That just means you have to add salt to it
00:48:08There's 125 grams of peanuts here
00:48:11Into a food processor
00:48:13Make sure you do not over process it
00:48:24It will become like peanut butter
00:48:26So what you want to do
00:48:28Is pulse it
00:48:29So pulse it till it's like
00:48:35A rough grainy sand
00:48:37Sort of texture
00:48:39That's done
00:48:43Next
00:48:45I've got 30 grams
00:48:47Here that I'm just going to roughly chop
00:48:50Which means you have some big chunks
00:48:53Of peanuts
00:48:54So these peanut cookies
00:48:58Are traditionally made during Chinese New Year
00:49:01In Malaysia
00:49:01I used to see my mum and my auntie
00:49:04Roll them by the hundreds
00:49:06The difference between their cookies and mine
00:49:09Is they use oil
00:49:11And I use butter
00:49:13So let's just say
00:49:15I frenched it up
00:49:16I'm going to add these
00:49:19Grounded peanuts
00:49:21And then to that
00:49:23The chopped peanuts
00:49:25This is a one bowl wonder
00:49:29125 grams of icing sugar
00:49:33185 grams of plain flour
00:49:40Which I am going to sift
00:49:42Mix them up
00:49:49And then make a well
00:49:53And here I've got 160 grams of melted butter
00:50:00Slowly pour it in
00:50:05And just combine it with the dry ingredients
00:50:11Did I say how easy this was going to be?
00:50:15We're halfway there
00:50:16Once it's combined
00:50:21Once it's combined
00:50:24Like so
00:50:26I'm going to use my hands
00:50:29To knead it a little bit
00:50:31Now the consistency should be
00:50:34A little bit crumbly
00:50:36But wet
00:50:37At the same time
00:50:39Like a dough
00:50:40That's done
00:50:43This is where you can get your kids involved
00:50:46Get their little hands into the dough
00:50:49It's fun
00:50:50Almost feels like Play-Doh
00:50:53Make a smooth bowl
00:50:56Like this
00:50:57This recipe makes about 30 cookies
00:51:04And then
00:51:22What I'm going to do
00:51:23Is I'm going to put
00:51:24Half a little peanut
00:51:26Just as decoration
00:51:28On these cookies
00:51:30Next
00:51:36I'm going to crack an egg
00:51:38And we're only going to use
00:51:41The egg yolk for this
00:51:43The egg yolk
00:51:44It's going to give
00:51:45A golden coating
00:51:46To these cookies
00:51:48When it's baked
00:52:00In the oven
00:52:11It goes at 180 degrees
00:52:14For about 20 minutes
00:52:16Or until golden brown
00:52:18Now I did say
00:52:23It was only 5 ingredients
00:52:24However
00:52:25As a special treat
00:52:27I am going to drizzle
00:52:28Some dark chocolate
00:52:30Onto those cookies
00:52:31So in a saucepan
00:52:33Double boiler
00:52:34Add your chocolate buttons
00:52:38You can either use
00:52:41Dark chocolate
00:52:42Or milk chocolate
00:52:44Give it a melt
00:52:46Shouldn't take too long
00:52:50Let's take a peek
00:52:54Oh that looks just about done
00:53:00You see how
00:53:12The top
00:53:14Bit where I put the egg wash
00:53:17Is beautifully
00:53:18Golden
00:53:20When your cookies
00:53:28Are cooled down enough
00:53:30You can start drizzling
00:53:33The chocolate
00:53:33I'm having fun
00:53:44Doing this
00:53:45Make sure you move
00:53:47Move your spoon
00:53:50Vigorously
00:53:51To get a
00:53:53Sort of a pattern
00:53:54On the cookie
00:53:56And there you go
00:54:00A perfect afternoon tea snack
00:54:03For your whole family
00:54:04Everyone's a winner baby
00:54:07That's your life
00:54:08That's no life
00:54:09You never have
00:54:10To satisfy
00:54:12Satisfying
00:54:13What happens when your garden
00:54:28Is filled with a
00:54:29Really dramatic
00:54:30Rock
00:54:31And a hard place
00:54:32Well you make it
00:54:33A landscape feature
00:54:34The Strathbogeys
00:54:35Are covered
00:54:36With these
00:54:37Massive rocks
00:54:38Well when you end up
00:54:39With one in a garden
00:54:40And I might add
00:54:41This one
00:54:41Is hiding a bigger rock
00:54:42Underneath it
00:54:43You turn it into
00:54:44A landscape feature
00:54:45You might remember
00:54:46A little while ago
00:54:47We visited
00:54:48Gail Van Royen's
00:54:50Magnificent garden
00:54:51In central Victoria
00:54:52Which was full
00:54:54Of fabulous
00:54:54Design ideas
00:54:56And this challenging spot
00:54:57Is a great example
00:54:59Of making the most
00:55:00Of what you already have
00:55:02Gail has actually chosen
00:55:04To create
00:55:05A Mediterranean garden
00:55:06It's hot
00:55:07It's exposed
00:55:08It's grey
00:55:09So she's stuck
00:55:10With the greys
00:55:11Of the rock
00:55:12And then repeated
00:55:12Them throughout
00:55:13These lavenders
00:55:14And using
00:55:15The pride of Madeira
00:55:16The echium
00:55:17Which will also have
00:55:18A purple
00:55:19Blue spike
00:55:20When it comes
00:55:20Into flower
00:55:21The grey leaf
00:55:22Of the olive
00:55:23All the way around
00:55:24As feature planting
00:55:25And then
00:55:26She's chosen
00:55:27Great lavenders
00:55:29Now Australia
00:55:30Is the centre
00:55:31Of lavender
00:55:32Breeding new hybrids
00:55:33At the moment
00:55:34Right throughout the world
00:55:35And she's got them
00:55:36All here
00:55:37And I just love it
00:55:38Because the flower
00:55:38Colours
00:55:39Are all
00:55:39Very similar
00:55:40All within the same
00:55:41Colour range
00:55:42Starting at the back
00:55:43With the long spikes
00:55:45And then the different
00:55:47Varieties through here
00:55:48Ones with little fluffy
00:55:50Tops on them
00:55:50And even a bit of white
00:55:51But the grey foliage
00:55:53And the blue
00:55:54And the mauve
00:55:54And the lilac
00:55:55All fit in together
00:55:56To create this really
00:55:58Beautiful feature
00:55:59Which started out
00:56:00As a hard problem
00:56:02Add some paint
00:56:05Plants and pots
00:56:06And you'll be amazed
00:56:07How easily
00:56:08It'll transform your space

00:56:45This is looking
00:56:52So much better
00:56:53Melissa and I
00:56:54Have been busy
00:56:55Fixing up the side
00:56:56Of this house
00:56:56Which is in desperate
00:56:58Need of a makeover
00:56:59Now so far
00:57:00I've put in
00:57:01A new step
00:57:01Because there was
00:57:02Nothing there
00:57:02I fixed the broken glass
00:57:04And Melissa
00:57:05Is adding this
00:57:06Gorgeous colour
00:57:06What is it?
00:57:07It looks good
00:57:08Doesn't it?
00:57:09It's called
00:57:09Blue Days
00:57:09It really makes
00:57:10Those window frames
00:57:11Pop
00:57:12And then we've got
00:57:12The dark colour
00:57:13On the fence
00:57:13That's Ace of Spades
00:57:14Contrasting with
00:57:15Our beautiful white brick
00:57:17So it's really
00:57:17Coming together
00:57:18It is
00:57:18And what is next?
00:57:20Planting
00:57:20So the colour scheme
00:57:21Here
00:57:22I've drawn inspiration
00:57:23From it
00:57:23You know
00:57:23I want to get
00:57:24Lots of greenery
00:57:25In here
00:57:25So when you're
00:57:26Dealing with a narrow
00:57:27Area
00:57:27Growing up
00:57:28Is always a good idea
00:57:29Now troughs
00:57:41Are such a great way
00:57:42To create garden beds
00:57:43When there's no space
00:57:45In the ground
00:57:45For it
00:57:45And because they're
00:57:46Nice and narrow
00:57:47They won't encroach
00:57:48On the area too much
00:57:49Thanks dads
00:57:53So we're planting
00:57:55These beautiful camellias
00:57:57This is a lovely one
00:57:58It's called
00:57:58Pure Silk
00:57:59Really pretty
00:58:00It has a pink bud
00:58:01And opens up
00:58:02Into a semi
00:58:02Double white
00:58:03And being a
00:58:04Sasanqua camellia
00:58:05It begins flowering
00:58:05In the autumn time
00:58:06And then flowers
00:58:07Through the cooler months
00:58:08But we don't want it
00:58:09To grow too wide
00:58:10You can see
00:58:10It's got a nice
00:58:11Strong upright habit
00:58:12But this is a good choice
00:58:13Because you could
00:58:14Trim it
00:58:14Maybe even make it
00:58:16Into a hedge
00:58:17Or you could
00:58:17Espelier it
00:58:18Against a wall
00:58:18Excuse me
00:58:20Excuse me what
00:58:21What did you say
00:58:22Espelier
00:58:23It's the ancient art
00:58:24Of training a tree
00:58:25Or shrub
00:58:25To grow flat
00:58:26Against a fence
00:58:26Or a wall
00:58:27I thought you were
00:58:27Telling me to spell
00:58:28Something
00:58:28I'm like
00:58:29I've got no cheese
00:58:29Oh look at that
00:58:44An instant hedge
00:58:45It is
00:58:46Looks really good
00:58:47Thank you
00:58:47And then I reckon
00:58:48We should do some
00:58:49More planting here
00:58:50Make the most
00:58:50Of some vertical space
00:58:51Yep
00:58:51Decorate the wall
00:58:52Will you help me
00:58:53With a little project
00:58:54I've got in mind
00:58:54Yeah I'd love to
00:58:55Let's do it
00:58:56Alright let's do it
00:58:56What do you have here
00:59:01Okay so this is part
00:59:02Of a vertical garden system
00:59:03So you just clip the pots on
00:59:04It's really
00:59:05Really handy
00:59:05Very nice
00:59:06But I'd like it to look
00:59:07A little prettier
00:59:08So I was wondering
00:59:08If you could put a frame
00:59:09Around it for me
00:59:10Yeah it's so easy
00:59:11Wave it with me
00:59:11Done I will
00:59:12I'll go do some planting
00:59:13So our camellia screens
00:59:19Are in place
00:59:19Now I just want to
00:59:21Break up the repetitive
00:59:21Nature of those troughs
00:59:23With some round pots
00:59:24And I've chosen a palette
00:59:26Of plants
00:59:26That are sort of
00:59:27Blue and white tones
00:59:28To really complement
00:59:29That painting palette
00:59:30So the highlight
00:59:32Of our potted display
00:59:33Is going to be
00:59:34This plant here
00:59:35This is a beautiful
00:59:36Plectranthus
00:59:36Called blue spires
00:59:38So as you can see
00:59:39It's got variegated foliage
00:59:40Which really jumps out
00:59:41At you from the shade
00:59:42And those blue flowers
00:59:44Attract the butterflies
00:59:45And the native bees
00:59:46And then I always like to
00:59:48I always like to include
00:59:49A little bit of foliage
00:59:50In my potted displays
00:59:52Just for a little bit
00:59:53Of different texture
00:59:54And this one
00:59:55Is a Dianeella
00:59:56Called silver streak
00:59:57And just for a little pop
01:00:03Of colour
01:00:03Look at this beauty
01:00:04It's called
01:00:05Palmonium
01:00:06Lambrook Mauve
01:00:07Pretty sprays
01:00:08Of mauve flowers
01:00:09From early spring
01:00:10All the way through
01:00:11To autumn
01:00:11And I always think
01:00:13It's really nice
01:00:13To have plants
01:00:14That cascade
01:00:15Over the edge
01:00:15Of the container
01:00:16To soften the look
01:00:17Of the pot
01:00:17So I'm using
01:00:18This white flowering
01:00:19The copa
01:00:20Such a long flowering plant
01:00:22It begins blooming
01:00:23In the springtime
01:00:24And continues all the way
01:00:25Through to autumn
01:00:26And finally
01:00:29A little bit of
01:00:29Creeping Charlie
01:00:30It does have flowers
01:00:32But I think the foliage
01:00:33Is the real superstar
01:00:34To be honest frame
01:00:44I'm keeping it super simple
01:00:46So I've just got some
01:00:47Pre-primed
01:00:48Tree to pine here
01:00:49Basically I've cut
01:00:50These two sides
01:00:52Exactly the same length
01:00:54As this frame
01:00:55And then the top
01:00:55And the bottom
01:00:56Well they're obviously
01:00:57A little bit longer
01:00:57So we pick up the sides
01:00:59If you get low
01:01:00And you need them to touch
01:01:01You call me up
01:01:03Honey
01:01:03You call me up
01:01:04You need a rush
01:01:05Call me up
01:01:06Call me up
01:01:07I don't know
01:01:09You don't even much
01:01:11Call me up
01:01:12Call me up
01:01:13Call me up
01:01:15Call me up
01:01:16Call me up
01:01:17Call me up
01:01:19Call me up
01:01:20Call me up
01:01:22And for the colour
01:01:26I'm using the same
01:01:27As Melissa did
01:01:28On the windows
01:01:28And doors
01:01:29It's called
01:01:29Blue Days
01:01:30It's an exterior paint
01:01:32It's hard wearing
01:01:33And it's self-priming
01:01:35So that's one less
01:01:36Kate that you have to do
01:01:37We're now for some plants
01:02:04Oh what have we got here
01:02:05Yeah so
01:02:06These just clip in
01:02:07It's really simple
01:02:08So I think the challenge here
01:02:09Is that these pots
01:02:10Because they're little
01:02:11They're going to dry out
01:02:11Really quickly
01:02:12So always use something
01:02:13Dry tolerant
01:02:14In a system like this
01:02:15I've gone for a
01:02:16Carex moonfalls
01:02:17Beautiful variegated plant
01:02:19So the beauty of these plants
01:02:21Is that those tufts
01:02:22Will get even bigger
01:02:23And it'll really fill out
01:02:24And you'll get this
01:02:25Lovely wall of foliage
01:02:26I'm always looking
01:02:45For extra opportunities
01:02:46To plant
01:02:47So I've just pulled up
01:02:48A few of these bricks
01:02:49Just to create
01:02:50A little pocket
01:02:51For these beauties
01:02:52So I'm putting in
01:02:53A bit of Creeping Charlie
01:02:54And then a nice
01:02:55Silver lady fern
01:02:56Just to soften those bricks
01:02:57All right
01:03:15How good does that look
01:03:16This is just a standard
01:03:17Off the shelf gate
01:03:19And you can see
01:03:19I painted the same colour
01:03:20As the bricks
01:03:21So everything just blends in
01:03:22Beautiful
01:03:23Oh look at this
01:03:28Absolutely beautiful
01:03:29I mean with a pretty
01:03:30Modest budget of paint
01:03:31Plants
01:03:32And basically materials
01:03:33For planters
01:03:33We have turned
01:03:34This neglected area
01:03:36Really into a paradise
01:03:37I mean do you remember
01:03:38What it used to look like
01:03:39When we started
01:03:39It was a tip
01:03:40It was
01:03:41This is a big transformation
01:03:42I'm loving the way
01:03:44The plants
01:03:44The styling
01:03:45The pots
01:03:45They all just complement
01:03:47These beautiful paint colours
01:03:48And you're right
01:03:49Side areas like this
01:03:50Are normally really unused spaces
01:03:52Now you want to linger in here
01:03:54And it's a beautiful walkway
01:03:55Through to the rest of the garden
01:03:56Yes it is
01:03:57And don't forget
01:03:58You get this beautiful view
01:03:59From the bedroom
01:04:00And the best part is
01:04:01This is a job that you can get done
01:04:02In a weekend or two
01:04:03Yeah a bit of hard yakka
01:04:04But so worth it
01:04:05Yeah well done
01:04:07Seriously what a top day it has been
01:04:27Such beautiful locations
01:04:29Amazing caravans
