00:11Is baby Johnny going to play hockey when he's big?
00:14You want to get the sticks?
00:21I met John in the summer of 2018.
00:24We were next door neighbors down the shore.
00:26Daddy.
00:27I'm going to do daddy now.
00:29Curly hair.
00:30A lot of curly hair.
00:31Yay!
00:32I had never heard of him.
00:34I had never heard of Johnny Hockey.
00:36I thought it was a retired, older hockey person moving in,
00:40and then when I saw him, I was like,
00:42it can't be him.
00:45One time I was at his house, and his dad was watching
00:48the top-ranked forwards for that upcoming season,
00:51and he popped up, and I was like,
00:54is that you?
00:55He was like, no.
00:57And he was so shy and humble about it as I started to catch on
01:01and noticed people were looking at him in a good way,
01:04and before I knew it, one thing led to another,
01:07and it was perfect.
01:12Pretty cool, huh?
01:14I am really excited right now.
01:16Johnny Gaudreau is with me in his Blue Jackets polo.
01:20Welcome, and congratulations to you.
01:22Yeah, thank you.
01:23Super excited.
01:25It's been widely reported that you took less money to come here.
01:28Is that accurate?
01:29Leaving Calgary to come to Columbus was more of like a family decision for me.
01:34Columbus seems like kind of a quiet little city and suits us really well.
01:38We're really enjoying it so far.
01:40We loved that we were at a phase where we were starting our family
01:43and on the East Coast closer to our relatives.
01:47Okay.
01:50You guys want to know what it is?
01:51Yes.
01:52It's a boy.
01:56That's your brother.
01:57It was just a really good fit for where we were in our lives.
02:08An unspeakable tragedy has rocked the hockey world.
02:12Thursday night in New Jersey,
02:13NHL star winger Johnny Gaudreau of the Columbus Blue Jackets
02:17and his younger brother Matthew were struck from behind and killed by an SUV.
02:22The Gaudreau brothers were set to be groomsmen in their sister's wedding on Friday.
02:28Johnny Gaudreau was known as Johnny Hockey.
02:31He won the 2014 Hobie Baker Award as the NCAA's top player.
02:36Gaudreau then went to the National Hockey League and was an instant star.
02:41The Johnny Hockey nickname, it suits his game for sure.
02:44His vision of the ice, the way he thinks.
02:47That's why he has so many fans.
02:49It's admirable to watch.
02:51Johnny Gaudreau, on a breakaway!
02:54Scores!
02:57He then signed a seven year, $68 million contract to go to Columbus
03:01where he was just about to start his third season.
03:05That tragedy shook the hockey world to its core.
03:08Because at the end of the day they weren't just hockey players,
03:10they were brothers, husbands, sons, friends.
03:14And they were going to be missed by so many different people.
03:18There's specifically one week that I will cherish forever.
03:21We're actually a family of five.
03:24I'm in my ninth week of pregnancy with our third baby.
03:28A total surprise, but again John was beaming and so excited.
03:32And now please join us as we welcome to the ice Johnny's wife, Meredith, and their children, Noah and Johnny.
03:46John, you spent your entire life working hard for your family and making us so proud of you every single day.
03:56Now it's my turn to make you proud as you watch John on us.
03:59From heaven with Uncle Matty by your side.
04:05As the team gets ready to take a warm up before the game, I want you all to be inspired by the life that John left.
04:11That means love your family first and foremost, and when it's time to drop the puck, let's love the game that John left.
04:17Thank you and go Jackass.
04:22The fact that Meredith told the players to go play for Johnny and having her be that strong really put the organization in a position to look inward and the players to rely upon each other to figure out how do you move forward.
04:36Y'all want you to play with Johnny.
04:41We've dropped the puck, 13 seconds.
04:45Off the clock for Johnny Gaudreau.
05:06From the accident to the funeral, there was a span of 10 days or so, we had the players
05:17come into town pretty quick after that.
05:21And I can remember we just sat down in the room and just chatted.
05:24It was just about being together.
05:27You know, a day doesn't go by that we don't think about Johnny for sure.
05:35I go back to what Meredith said at the opening night, Johnny wants you to go play hockey,
05:40I want you to go play hockey, go play hockey.
05:44She's so strong of a person and for her to be able to go through what she's going through
05:50and you know, be so supportive of the players getting back was outstanding.
05:58It was expected to be a terrible season in a lot of ways.
06:02They finished in the bottom of the Eastern Conference last year and were expected to
06:05be there again this year.
06:07And then losing your best player to a tragedy, how do you deal with that?
06:14What's next?
06:18I was just saying, poor Blue Jackets.
06:24We're not in a position to win the Stanley Cup this year and try to like have to get
06:28into the playoffs, all that.
06:30But you know, we're dealt tough situation and we know if we stick together and work together
06:35and play together that we have a better chance of having success.
06:40When I was up in Calgary, they gave us a few of these, they're signed by Johnny and Sean,
06:46gave Meredith a few copies of it.
06:49There was originals, there was like three or four originals there.
06:53Jenner and Brents have been out but you know, Monaghan, as good of a player has been on the
06:57ice, he's the one I worry about the most.
06:59He bought his house right behind Johnny, the whole thing.
07:01So I just, I don't know how he's done it.
07:05He's been amazing.
07:07It says a lot that Monaghan wanted to go to a place that traditionally not a lot of guys
07:11have shown that they want to sign.
07:12It was all about Johnny hockey and him wanting to play with Johnny.
07:20A minute after I signed here, I had messages from Boone and John telling me that there's
07:25a house available within 20 steps from both of them.
07:29So I came and checked it out and I mean, it all worked out.
07:34The first time I met John was development camp and then it was his first game with the
07:39Flames organization.
07:40We were a bit of an older team at the time too, so I was excited to get another young
07:44guy to hang out with.
07:46Chris Breen, slams one towards the goal, tipped in by Johnny Goudreau.
07:53His first NHL game, he's got his first NHL goal.
07:58We hung out a lot.
07:59We experienced a lot together too.
08:01I mean, if I was 18, 19, he's 19, 20 and the line mates for the next seven or eight years,
08:08he made his impact pretty quickly.
08:10Sean Monaghan, Goudreau scores!
08:13Patrick Johnny Goudreau.
08:16At their peak, Monaghan and Goudreau were as good as any tandem in the entire NHL.
08:22They put up crazy numbers and it was great to watch.
08:25Goudreau passes, it's good!
08:28Sean Monaghan!
08:29They were the engine that made the Calgary Flames go.
08:32I was lucky enough to be his line mate and probably set me up for over 150 goals at least.
08:38He just loved playing the game and to make those special plays highlight reels.
08:49Johnny Goudreau sends the Flames to round two.
08:52He's going to go down as one of the best guys to play this game.
08:56When Sean signed in Columbus, it was one of the best days of John's life.
09:03It was kind of an easy decision, but John was calling me every five minutes from the day our
09:10season ended in Winnipeg to the day of free agency.
09:13I'm pretty sure I still got a voicemail on my phone that he left me.
09:19They were like brothers, kind of grew up together in this world and they talked every single day.
09:26When Sean was out in Calgary, Sean and Brittany were his family.
09:30He's just someone that I know John really looked up to.
09:35He's been really special to me and my kids because I know how much he meant to John.
09:44It took a while for me. I was quiet for a while and you get all these different emotions that hit
09:50you, but some days I'm laughing, some days it's sad.
09:55I think being at the rink and playing is obviously something that takes your mind off everything for sure.
10:05We all picked the Columbus Blue Jackets to finish eighth in their division.
10:09They lost their best offensive player.
10:11Yeah.
10:12Johnny Goudreau passed away.
10:13Yeah.
10:13Yeah.
10:14And if they make playoffs, like that is the greatest story of all time.
10:23Columbus gets off to a surprisingly great start to the season and Sean Monaghan's at the center of it.
10:27And it's such a gut punch when he suffers a bad wrist injury.
10:32It's the road to recovery for me right now. I'm trying to get back, hoping to be a couple weeks away.
10:37Nice.
10:38We've got a great team. It's just, mentally, it's a grind.
10:42I mean, it's tough to watch and not play.
10:44The Blue Jackets have been having a moment all season long.
10:47Yes, they are, I believe, the second wild card right now.
10:50They are doing it without Sean Monaghan, which is unbelievable because Sean Monaghan
10:55has been such a big part of that team's turnaround.
11:02You can't be part of it. You got to put the work in so you're ready when you get back.
11:05And I think when teammates see other guys pushing to get back in the lineup, it keeps them hungry.
11:11We have a motivated group in here. It's a special feeling to be in this room.
11:15And I mean, everyone's trying to push the needle forward here.
11:26There's not a day go by I don't think about them.
11:28There's times you're sitting on the bench during the game thinking about them.
11:30And I feel like it just gives you more motivation to go out there and play hard and play for each other.
11:35I feel like I'm going to go out there and play hard and play hard and play hard.
11:40We were in Jersey for the funeral. We were all sitting there afterwards.
11:43Like what would John want us to do? He wants to go have a couple of beers.
11:46He'd want us to, you know, tell stories and laugh.
11:48And it's been a good way to kind of remind ourselves to just go enjoy it and have fun.
11:53Because that's what John did at the rink.
11:55I feel like for practice, I'm early. I'm one of the first guys there.
11:58Monaghan's pretty early. So when I go with him, we usually get there around four.
12:01John used to get there at like 4.59 and we had a power play at 5.05.
12:09He was the last one every time.
12:11What happened with John, I feel like people were writing us off.
12:16Hey guys. Dusty.
12:20People weren't sure how we were going to respond.
12:23We weren't sure how we were going to respond.
12:24Zach Wierenski. Unbelievable.
12:29I don't need too many shots.
12:31Since December 23rd, Wierenski was first in the NHL in assists, points and shots.
12:38Norris Trophy season, dude. He's on pace for 92 points and a plus 16 this year on the Columbus Blue Jackets.
12:44It must have been a team effort. Have you noticed Steve in particular growing as a player,
12:52as a leader and how much has that helped this team?
12:55Yeah. Right from that first game, I mean, he's been, you know, the backbone back there for us and
13:00driving offense, scoring goals. He's taking a huge step and he's a really, really elite player,
13:06obviously in this league, a top defenseman for a reason and we're lucky to have him.
13:11The team just released that Sean Monaghan will be out in an additional six to eight weeks.
13:15Bad news there for Monaghan and obviously the Blue Jackets.
13:20We're dealing with some injuries, but it's been four years since I played meaningful hockey.
13:24Like every night, I'm just checking scoreboard and seeing where we're at in the standings,
13:27who we're playing against.
13:29We're a good hockey team and we know we are. We play the right way and we play hard. We can play with anyone.
13:36Good play. Good play. Good play.
13:49Browenski is one of the most underrated blue liners in the league. And this year,
13:53he's really showed up for that team in ways that I don't think they expected.
14:01I mean, what doesn't Zach Wierenski do? He plays against top lines. He plays any situation.
14:06Power play. Penalty kill. Goalie pulled. You need a big goal scored. He'll do it.
14:11You need a playmate. He'll do it.
14:12Adrian Kempe plays. Soothes. Browenski with the block. How good is that play by Browenski?
14:17He's the guy there. There's no question. And you can see it.
14:21Columbus looking for victory. Karel Martenko.
14:24Steeves. He's got it. He scores!
14:29Jackets win 3-2.
14:30That was sick.
14:39Us against the world, boys.
14:43Other teams don't feel bad for us when we're injured.
14:45We have a lot of guys on our team that are pushing hard right now, playing hard.
14:50It's that next man up mentality.
14:53Good for you guys. That's a big fucking win. That's not an easy hockey game.
14:57It was a fucking grind. We talked about it. You stuck with it. So, enjoy your two days off.
15:02All right, boys.
15:05We know how we have to play. If we were to make the playoffs and get some guys healthy,
15:09we can definitely do some damage in it. It's just getting there and making it. So,
15:12it's going to be a sprint to the finish.
15:20Right now, we could be in like changing of the guard watch in the Eastern Conference,
15:25based off what we've seen over the last couple of weeks. That stadium series game on March 1st
15:30has a lot of juice to it because Columbus and Detroit are two of the hottest teams in the league
15:35and there could be playoff implications on the line. I'm very excited for that game.
15:39It's a little late for the Christmas tree and the decorations, but my fiance got some gifts for
15:45Noah and we've just been waiting for her to come by and open them and see the big tree.
15:49Look how big their hokko tree is. What? Do you want to open something? Did Santa come leave you a couple things?
15:59Santa came here? Are those your presents? Look at all this slime. Open it.
16:09My body, how big you're getting. Where we live in New Albany, it's the Jenners, the Monahans,
16:19we live there. It's a good group of people there. Guys are close on every team, but I feel like this
16:24team is, it's special. This one. Do you like the purple? You know, there's so many of us that are
16:29there for them and want to help them. And I feel like the main thing that I learned, there's really not much
16:34you can do except either for them. Oh, that's toast now. Yeah. We don't buy messy toys.
16:47You know, being around the team is comforting. I know John would want his kids to stay a part of
16:53this world and just be close to his people. You got to show Uncle Boone. Mix them all together here soon.
17:00I'm excited for the outdoor game. Those are always fun. The organization is
17:06making a special point to do something for John. It is sad because he was looking forward to having
17:12an outdoor game. Wow. It's so sicky. I know. It's not coming out. But, you know, I know he's looking down.
17:20Really proud of these guys. Noah, should we go out to dinner or should we stay here and play?
17:24So, play. Okay.
17:27I contend that tomorrow is the most important day in franchise history. This franchise has never
17:46taken center stage. You're going to be in front of roughly 100,000 people. I think a lot of people
17:51are going to realize there's a reason why a lot of Blue Jackets fans feel so strongly about this team
17:56is because there is a real family atmosphere about it. We've all been here watching football
18:02games and concerts, but to actually, you know, have an NHL game out here is going to be pretty cool.
18:08It's my first outdoor game. It's the city's first outdoor game and our fans are jacked up for it.
18:12So, I'm expecting a great atmosphere and it's going to be a hell of a game. So, I'm excited for it.
18:16What's it like to see all the 13s around? Do you feel his presence even in these kind of big moments?
18:22Yeah. I mean, to be honest, I feel his presence all the time. I don't know if he sends me signs or
18:27what it is. I feel like he's watching down on us and trying to make him proud for sure.
18:39We're back in the capital of the great state of Ohio. Inside the horseshoe, more than 90,000 people on
18:46hand. Boone, I asked you yesterday when we did the Johnny skate, do you think Johnny would like to be
18:53here? He said, yes, he would like to be here, correct? Yes. Sure, he would like to be here,
18:58but you know what? He is here. He's with all of us. Family here. Meredith here. Go with him out there,
19:10play the game the right way. We fucking play. We'll have success. It's fucking great.
19:20The stadium series is a moment that the market has been waiting for for a long time.
19:26It's kind of the final recognition of Johnny Gaudreau and a celebration of his life this season.
19:32And Meredith Gaudreau is, is there with the kids front and center.
19:46Walking into the stadium that day with Sean by my side and the Blue Jackets behind me,
19:52it was really symbolic. Just felt like this whole team's got my back.
19:56The Detroit Red Wings and the Columbus Jackets ready to go. The 43rd outdoor game at first ever
20:15involving the Blue Jackets, the first ever in the state of Ohio.
20:17The odds to make the playoffs. That's what's on the minds of these two teams and their fan bases.
20:34And the CBJ chance starts up. JDR picks it up in front, trying to get it off the body of Gaudreau.
20:41Jackets with a chance.
20:42JDR picks it up in front, trying to get it off the body of Gaudreau.
20:44Yeah!
20:45SCORE!
20:471-0, Blue Jackets. Their first ever outdoor goal.
20:53Fuck yeah.
20:54Show, show, show.
20:56Oh, boy.
21:07Every tribute has been beautiful in its own way, and I'm really touched by them.
21:11It's an honor to stand there for John.
21:16Be ready.
21:17John's here, right?
21:18I'll look for you.
21:18I feel like for all of us, just to hear 90 plus thousand people chanting Johnny Hockey,
21:23got us going there.
21:25That was a huge moment for our team.
21:27The Jackets win the draw.
21:32They've got the punt.
21:34Wierenski on the right wing boards, pop to the right wing circle.
21:37And he's right there!
21:39There's a SCORE!
21:40They score right on kill.
21:42Made it two to one for the Jackets.
21:47Hey, great finish off.
21:48Wierenski, he's really picked up his game since Monahan went down.
21:5418 goals and 62 points.
21:58Matthew Olivier.
21:59He jams it out in front and scores!
22:05Matthew Olivier makes it three to one for the CBJ.
22:12Let's go, baby!
22:13Blue Jackets a two-goal lead heading into the third period.
22:25I was looking at him, you say, leave it.
22:26Like I said, I'm going that way.
22:27Like go like corner.
22:29Maybe next time I'll just stay on that side.
22:30I just wanted to get to my forehand.
22:32If you have him to skate, then you go.
22:33Yeah.
22:35Just like, just more of like a shallow route.
22:37I think Zach has always been a supporter when it comes to leadership.
22:41And I think this year he got thrust into a position where he had to be a leader.
22:45You got people from all over the world in that locker room and they really came together.
22:48It was something to admire.
22:50So let's just try and get our gaps and lock it down and
22:53fucking win it here.
22:55Thank you on behalf of all hockey fans around the world for being so gracious with your time.
23:00Say thank you to everyone else making it so special for us and
23:04honoring John and making our kids a big part of it because
23:08that's what he intended for them.
23:10Third period underway.
23:15Detroit had a huge edge in shots.
23:17They carry the play and they score.
23:20Patrick Kane makes it three to two.
23:24Now look at one and two going a little harder here in the neutral ball.
23:28Three and a half to go.
23:30They are all over the Blue Jackets.
23:33They score!
23:35Aleister Brinkett.
23:36And Detroit is all even with Columbus.
23:41We've dealt with adversity in Columbus for a long time.
23:46And I think that just shows the type of character we have in our room, the type of resilience we have in our room.
23:50He's going forward.
23:55North here.
23:56He's going north.
24:00Under two and a half to go.
24:01And here stands for it.
24:07He scores!
24:09Took the puck away and scored on his own rebound!
24:14Holy fuck, what a ball!
24:19Look at that!
24:23Jenner's got it!
24:24In the middle, Wierenski hits the puck!
24:25Wierenski grabs the side of the sage post!
24:28They score!
24:33Holy fuck!
24:34I'm an idiot!
24:35Oh, boys!
24:36I'm going to fucking get it done!
24:39The Columbus Blue Jackets in their first outdoor game.
24:44Beat Detroit five to three.
24:47And move into the number one wild card spot in the Eastern Conference with their fourth straight win.
24:53Good job.
24:56Unbelievable.
24:57You guys fucking played well, man.
24:58Keep going, man.
24:59I'm cheering for you guys.
25:00Yeah, pretty good.
25:00I'm cheering for you guys.
25:02Both of us.
25:02Good job, guys!
25:03There we go, there we go!
25:05You know, guys stepped up at different times throughout the game.
25:07Obviously, Danny at the end there is a huge goal.
25:09We have, you know, 22, 23 games left and see what happens down the stretch here.
25:14But we're going to need our fan base behind us and they definitely were tonight.
25:20That was awesome.
25:21Oh, that's great.
25:25All the tributes have been amazing.
25:27They all have been a little different in their own way.
25:29It's so nice to see the outreach John has had.
25:32But once they're all over and said and done, I'm kind of like emotionally exhausted from them sometimes
25:37because I do want to just put on a brave face when I'm there.
25:40It's a lot, but I wouldn't ever pass it up because I feel close to him when I'm there.
25:45Thank you, guys.
25:46Yeah.
25:51Show Johnny.
26:02This is my sister, Lily.
26:03She pretty much moved out with me last year to help me when I was pregnant and John was on the road a lot.
26:09And she actually was in the delivery room with John and I when we had Johnny.
26:13So she's been there every step of the way with this little guy.
26:16And number three.
26:17Yeah.
26:19So I have a lot of help, which is good.
26:22I'm unfortunately getting used to this new normal.
26:25It's just that, you know, little things still feel the same, although John can't do them with me.
26:32Daddy, doctor.
26:34No, daddy, doctor.
26:38Anyone in a mask is a doctor.
26:41I didn't really know when it all was happening, what my next week or tomorrow or the next month would
26:45look like. And then as time went on, I thought, I do want to have this baby in Columbus with our
26:50same doctor that we had our first babies with because she knew John really well.
26:55Wow.
26:56We always do a big pull online of everyone's guesses of boy or girl.
27:01Is that our new baby in my belly?
27:03Knowing, like, I had all three babies with the same doctor in the same city at the same hospital
27:08is one thing that I could look back on and knowing, you know, that part didn't have to change.
27:14Hey.
27:15It just felt right.
27:16Careful. These are special.
27:26I remember my dad used to tie my skates when I was a kid.
27:32Now it kind of sucks when someone else has to tie your skates.
27:37When you're hurt and you're looking in from the outside, I mean, it can get frustrating,
27:42but yeah, you got to try and stay positive.
27:45They were coming off such a high at the outdoor game and then immediately after the fact,
27:49they take a nosedive and they lose eight out of their next nine games.
27:52And Monaghan, such a central piece, just feels like they need him back as soon as possible.
28:07I think most of the season, they were scoring goals.
28:10The last, what, two weeks or so, they haven't been scoring goals.
28:15You've got it, Monaghan.
28:16I think the team we saw earlier in the season, I think it'll come back around.
28:20We're going to get Monaghan back on Monday.
28:26Jesus.
28:29Yeah.
28:31It's landed right on my elbow.
28:33Fuck.
28:37These next couple games will be big for them, but I believe that the Jackets can do this,
28:41get it turned around and squeak into the playoffs.
28:43We're a resilient team on the ice and everyone's got to pull their weight and do their job and
28:50I think this is a team who can compete in the playoffs.
28:52Tomorrow will be huge.
29:00Need those two points tomorrow.
29:08It was announced today that Sean Monaghan is back in the lineup.
29:11And I didn't realize this about Monaghan.
29:14He's got 41 points in 41 games.
29:17He's been big time, as we all know.
29:19I would like to be optimistic about this team, but the reality is you're four points out right
29:23of the playoff spot.
29:25I mean, these are the type of games you have to win.
29:27Oh, Monaghan, a flip.
29:30Boone Jenner, here he is, one-on-one, working in against Dodgson.
29:33Grinchot, he scored!
29:34And the Columbus Blue Jackets snap the six-game losing streak.
29:39It looked like it was over for the Blue Jackets, and then they get hot and they play themselves
29:44back into contention.
29:45Monaghan, he looks for a play.
29:47Gates out, sets it up, Martesco fires!
29:49Columbus Blue Jackets win it 7-6!
29:53Ten games remain for the Blue Jackets this season.
29:55They come in tonight, two points out of a wildcard spot in the Eastern Conference.
30:00Monaghan dangling in, can he finish?
30:04Yes, he does!
30:07We're in for such a great finish in this Eastern Conference playoff chase.
30:12Over to Monaghan, wait a look, here he is!
30:14He scores!
30:15John Monaghan!
30:18It feels like you guys are playing game sevens every night.
30:20We're playing hard, trying to get two points every night to get where we want to be,
30:24and that's in the playoffs.
30:25Zach Wierenski, now a great chance and they score!
30:30But when the Norris Trophy ballots are in, Zach Wierenski will be in the top three for sure.
30:35The Norris Trophy goes to the best defenseman in the NHL, and Zach Wierenski, this year,
30:42was really, really putting on a strong campaign to win the Norris.
30:46You're having a great season.
30:48I appreciate that.
30:49Thank you very much.
30:51Wierenski, a shot!
30:52Let's go!
30:52Big team win, but sometimes you get to celebrate the milestones here.
30:58You see?
30:59The franchise leader in assists.
31:04That's wouldn't be possible without you guys, so I appreciate it.
31:06And let's just keep this thing rolling.
31:10Jackets still alive.
31:12Stay alive, Beam.
31:13Okay, so the Canadians host the Hurricanes tonight.
31:18If the Canadians get a point, they're in the playoffs, and that is it.
31:21And then we congratulate the Columbus Blue Jackets on a wonderful season.
31:25If they lose this game in regulation, then tomorrow, when the Columbus Blue Jackets
31:30host the New York Islanders, they can get into the playoffs by winning in regulation.
31:34How's it felt to kind of be in the Norris conversation?
31:40It's been a little weird, to be honest.
31:42I definitely noticed it, whether that's, you know, through social media or people in the city.
31:48It's been fun, but definitely been different.
31:50I don't, I can't say I love the spotlight.
31:54I'm just trying to enjoy the year.
31:55Hopefully we make the playoffs and we're still in it, right?
31:59Until we're eliminated or until we clinch, we just have to keep playing and keep playing our game.
32:04It all comes down to this.
32:08Game 82 for the Montreal Canadiens, and a single point tonight will earn their spot
32:13into the Stanley Cup playoffs.
32:15Unfortunately for the Columbus Blue Jackets,
32:18they have to sit there and watch this go down tonight
32:20and hope that this lineup for Carolina can take down the Montreal Canadiens.
32:25Yeah, really nervous.
32:26I feel like when you're in the game, you kind of have some excitement,
32:28maybe a little bit of nerves, but when you're watching, there's just nothing you can do to
32:32help have the outcome that you want.
32:34So it's just a totally different feel.
32:39This season, the team with the most national backing was the Blue Jackets,
32:43because people knew the story.
32:45And it would have just been the perfect storybook ending everybody wanted to see.
32:58And Montreal versing a one goal lead with 159 to go here in the third period.
33:06Yeah, you could feel the tension.
33:10And a scramble off the draw, picked up, and it's down the ice!
33:14Scores to Billings!
33:16And it's inside the side, a lead for the Billy now!
33:20And this will do it, and the Montreal Canadiens will be heading to the playoffs.
33:26I definitely think that we were a playoff team, but we can't wait for Montreal to lose,
33:30or Detroit to lose, or Ottawa to lose. It was on us to win hockey games,
33:33and we didn't do enough of that. And that's the reason we fell short.
33:36What's up, guys?
33:49Hey! Hi, Johnny boy!
33:51You guys can go in the swing show!
33:55Being so close to the team this year was really comforting to me.
33:58You know, it's where we would have been together.
34:01So I find a lot of comfort in being around the people that John was closest to,
34:05and, you know, those boys saw John every single day.
34:09They knew him so well.
34:10This is baby Carter, Carter Michael.
34:14Pretty good, still just sleeps a lot, so I can bring him out here with me all the time
34:18when the kids want to come out. But he's all John.
34:20Came out weighing the exact same as John and the exact same length.
34:25Yeah, eight pounds, three ounces, and 20 and a half inches, and that was exactly like his daddy.
34:32That's nice.
34:35Looking at Carter, it looks just like Johnny.
34:40Carter's a special kid and someone who I'm going to be keeping a close eye on for the rest of my life,
34:45and being able to watch him grow up.
34:47Hey, look at the slide.
34:49Yeah?
34:50I want to go down the slide.
34:52You want to go down the slide?
34:53Yeah.
34:54We've got a whole line here now with Leo and my two, so we'll see how they pan out to be like their dads.
35:03Yay! Slow and steady.
35:05Whoa, whoa, he's doing it!
35:07I hope our kids are going to be hockey players. I know that's what John always wanted in the back of his mind.
35:13My father-in-law already bought Johnny's skates last Christmas, so he's waiting and he's ready, and
35:22definitely give it a shot.
35:23It was sad, to be honest, not getting a chance to play a game to try and get in the playoffs,
35:35but winning this game is still very important. And John, I think he'd be proud of us. I mean,
35:41at the end of the day, he would have been such a big part of it. And, I mean, keeping the mood light,
35:46and a big part of the success we would have had. So, you think about that, and it can make you really emotional.
36:00I honestly believe that they played every single game, every single second together.
36:05They played it for Johnny and Matty Goudreau.
36:16Let's finish it off the right way. Game plays as fuck. We've done it all year.
36:19We've stuck together. We've played for each other. Let's fucking continue that, okay?
36:24You guys have set that standard. Let's finish it off the right way. All right, Harry!
36:28I'm right here, right here.
36:34Columbus looks back on this season as extremely difficult, but also as a real formative year,
36:42and learn that not only are they capable of bonding together and moving through unspeakable tragedy,
36:50but also, like, they're a pretty good hockey team.
36:53For the Blue Jackets, what a regular season. So many career years, none better than the season for
37:00that guy, Zach Wierenski, finalist for the Norris Strophy for top defenseman.
37:06This season felt like a coming out party for Zach Wierenski. A lot of people knew that he was a great
37:11player, but I don't know if a lot of people knew that he had, like, this in him.
37:17Zach, the leading point score of the team, 80 points. Only Panarin with more.
37:22And a single season of Blue Jackets history.
37:24Zach Wierenski, his leadership qualities and how he stepped up for the city of Columbus,
37:28both on and off the ice, it's been great to watch him play, to watch him develop.
37:33A nice move by Wierenski.
37:36Back door to Morocco!
37:43That's an assist for Zach Wierenski.
37:45What's up, guys?
37:48You know, the sport of hockey is incredible, but at the end of the day,
37:50the most important thing is your family, your friends, your close ones.
38:03Like, that's what I learned most from John, and I think I really value that now more than ever.
38:08Hey, be ready.
38:11It's a three-on-one for Columbus.
38:13Monaghan, over, wide open.
38:15Net to Wierenski.
38:17I'm right here, I'm right here, right here.
38:25This crowd is having fun like they did all season long with this team.
38:30I'm really proud to be a Blue Jacket and be a part of this team, and
38:35John is obviously a huge part of this organization, the culture that it was beginning to come.
38:41He's someone that I really looked up to, and I don't even know if he knew that.
38:46We'll see you later, all right?
38:47It's the end of the season for real, just the beginning for this Columbus Blue Jacket's team.
39:00What's your plan with it, bro?
39:09Hey, Johnny's looking down on you, man.
39:11Oh, I appreciate it.
39:12I appreciate it, you guys, for this season.
39:14Everything you guys did, amazing.
39:16When I feel like I am stumbling in the dark, I get lost inside this great big world.
39:29Our family being in the spotlight this season, you know, that was John's thing,
39:33but without him now, you know, I want to still take these opportunities to represent him,
39:37so that the kids have these memories to remember how special their dad was.
39:45I can see you, follow the sound of my voice.
39:53I'm right here, I'm right here, follow the sound of my voice.
40:05And I'll try your tears.
40:08I'm right here, right here.
40:22Right here.
40:35And I'll try your tears.
40:53And how to do the sound of my voice.
40:55And the fo.
