00:00And we go now to the United States as the Senate failed to reach a deal over funding for the fourth time on Friday, leaving the shutdown in effect likely throughout the weekend.
00:12Our correspondent in Washington, D.C., Jorge Gestoso, with more.
00:17Thank you. For the fourth time, again, this afternoon, it was a new vote at the Senate to try to put an end to the shutdown and didn't work.
00:29There was no room for accepting the proposals of the other side, Democrats with their own, Republicans with their own.
00:37So now we have to wait until Monday to see if by any chance there is some improvement.
00:43What is going on? The center stage is Social Security, Social Security but multi-cost, Obamacare, that definitely Democrats want to keep it in their proposal.
00:57And Republicans do not want.
01:01There is affecting at least 800,000 federal workers that are not receiving any payment since the beginning of this month.
01:11Definitely, we knew also that the director of the budget has met with the president of the United States.
01:19And they have already elaborated a list of people that they are planning to fire.
01:27So firings could be starting anytime soon, could be even today during the weekend or very early next week.
01:34And it has a political connotation.
01:37They believe that people who are perceived like leftists are going to be first in the line to be precisely fired.
01:48And also, there is a list that includes some federal agencies and social programs, mostly perceived as programs and agencies from the Democrat side,
02:00or that help the Democratic agenda, that are also in the list to be chopped.
02:05So far, another day, the third of this shutdown, with no developments and the crisis continues.
02:14We'll get back to you now.
