00:00As the global civil-fighter continues to approach Gaza to break this release,
00:15activists on board have denounced overnight intimidation attempts by the Tel Aviv regime.
00:23In China, flag-raising ceremony took place at Tiananmen Square in Beijing
00:27and marked the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
00:34And on Wednesday, the US government shut down after congressional Democrats refused to support a Republican bill to extend funding for federal departments.
00:46Hello, welcome to From the South. I'm Luis Alberto Matos from Dele Sur Studios in Havana, Cuba.
00:52We begin with the news.
00:57In Palestine, Gaza's health ministry announced on Wednesday the death of two people, one of them a child due to malnutrition and famine in the enclave,
01:04bringing the death toll from starvation to 455 amid the ongoing Israeli aid blockade.
01:21The authority added that 17,000 children are suffering from severe malnutrition, while patients are also being treated for stress and memory loss resulting from acute hunger.
01:32In this context, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees warned that malnutrition among children under the age of five doubled between March and June as a result of the tight Israeli aid and food blockade on the Palestinian enclave.
01:45These developments unfold as Israeli airstrikes continue across Gaza, getting at least 61 Palestinians in the last 24 hours, according to medical sources.
01:54As the global summit flotilla continues to approach Gaza to break the Israeli siege, activists on board have denounced overnight intimidation attempts by the Tel Aviv regime.
02:11Precisely, flotilla members informed that Israeli meteoric vessels had approached the humanitarian fleet, launching a cyber-attack which damaged devices and triggered navigation connectivity issues.
02:22The vessels comprising the flotilla are some 100 nautical miles from Gaza, close to the location where the Madeline was intercepted months ago during a similar mission.
02:31This is the largest attempt ever to break the siege, as the flotilla counts on 51 votes backed by international law.
02:38In this scenario, activists on board have reaffirmed their commitment to non-violence and to continue pursuing the goal of creating a people's humanitarian corridor for Gaza.
02:47Under way again, and we know that we're going to be facing these types of threats or these types of intimidations more and more as we move forward.
03:00We're aware of this and we're here to challenge this, to challenge attacks, to challenge threats, to challenge potential interceptions in international waters that violate international law.
03:12And we're here to continue to create a humanitarian corridor, to break the siege and to stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people.
03:18Because none of what we're undergoing here, which is of course very intense and can be very dangerous and very risky, is nothing compared to what Palestinians live every day.
03:29So, yes, we keep going.
03:32In Morocco, protests demanding improvements to public education and healthcare reached their fourth day of riots and clashes between protesters and security forces.
03:44Behind the protests is a youth movement known as Generation C212, which in a statement on its Facebook page expressed its regret for the riots and vandalism against public and private property.
03:56The Moroccan Prosecutors' Office announced that 37 people will be processed for their participation in the protests, including 34 who were released on bail and whose trial will begin on October 7th.
04:08The protests began on September 27th in a context of growing public discontent over social inequality, especially after the news of the death of eight pregnant women in a public hospital in the city of Agadir.
04:19And the United Nations' Stabilization Mission in the Democratic Republic of the Congo has recorded 1,087 civilian deaths in violent incidents in Etude and North Kibu provinces since June 2025.
04:39The Special Representative of the UN Secretary General in the country, Bintu Keita, reported on the growing violence in the region.
04:46Keita explained that the current situation is marked by violence from hundreds of armed groups and the occupation of territories by the Congolese River Alliance marched during the Third Movement.
04:56The UN Representative asserted that despite the decisions of the Security Council and the progress represented by the agreements between the Congo and Rwanda, there is no real ceasefire.
05:06The peace in the Democratic Republic of the Congo is still mostly a promise.
05:16There are discrepancies between the progress we see on paper and the reality we observe on the ground, which continues to be marred with violence.
05:28Peace will not last if the underlying drivers of conflict are not addressed.
05:34Illegal mining, looting of natural resources and illicit financial flows continue to fuel violence.
05:43These activities must be stopped.
05:47The President of Madagascar, Andrea Jarlalina, announced the dissolution of its government due to protests against economic measures and cuts to basic services.
05:57In a televised speech, the President acknowledged the disappointment of the protesters who took to the streets to denounce the lack of reliable electricity and water supplies.
06:06Demonstrations resulted in the immediate dismissal of Prime Minister Christian Say and all cabinet ministers, although they will continue to perform their duties on an interim basis until a new government is elected.
06:19These demonstrations took place in the country's capital, Antananaribo, where police forces used tear gas and rubber bullets to disperse the crowd and restore public order.
06:29In Indonesia, rescue efforts continue after the partial collapse of a school on the island of Haba, near the capital of Jakarta.
06:42Rescue teams continue to search for at least 91 people who have been trapped on the rubble since the incident occurred on Monday.
06:49The National Agency for Disaster Medication has reported four deaths and one survivor rescued in guarded conditions.
06:55Meanwhile, the agency's director, Mohamed Spaji, emphasized that they are using all possible means to find the victims alive.
07:05Such as ThermoSense funds to locate the victims as descended to our so-called golden period for best survival chances near its end.

07:46Welcome back. In China, a flag racing ceremony took place at Tiananmen Square in Beijing to mark the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
07:52Thousands of spectators from all over the country gathered in the square from early in the morning to witness the event while singing the national anthem.
07:58The basket of flowers was also placed in the center of the square as part of the decorations for the country's national day.
08:04In this context, President Xi Jinping gave a speech in which he praised the country's development over the last few decades.
08:10The President also expressed his gratitude for international support as evidenced by the cooperative and fraternal relations with various nations around the world.
08:22And in this context, Venezuela congratulated the Chinese people on their national day.
08:32In an official statement, the Venezuelan government emphasized that the Chinese Communist Party realized the dream of independence, freedom, peace, equality, inclusion, social justice, as well as progress, which today is celebrated in times of splendor and revitalization.
08:46The Venezuelan government further emphasized that we proudly salute the important achievements made in these years of efforts and prowess.
08:56And for his part, Cuba and President Miguel DĂaz can also congratulate the Chinese government on the date.
09:08Through a message shared on his Telegram account, the head of state sent warm congratulations to President Xi Jinping, the Chinese Party, government and people on the occasion of the 76th anniversary of the founding of the People's Republic of China.
09:20And added, we thank you for your permanent solidarity with Cuba based on the brotherhood between both countries.
09:33Now in Mexico, President Claudia Sheinbaum, the first woman to hold this position, marks her one year anniversary in office.
09:39Recent polls showed that Sheinbaum has a 73% approval rating among Mexicans after one year.
09:4566% have a favorable opinion of her leadership and 58% believe she is doing a good job managing the country's economy.
09:52Additionally, 75% of citizens support her social policies.
10:03President Xi Jinping's achievements include constitutional and judicial reforms regarding the rights of indigenous peoples as well as the recovery of public companies.
10:10Other notable achievements include reversing the energy reform, rescuing Pemex, reducing intentional homicides by 32%, deploying more than 130,000 security personnel throughout the country, and implementing comprehensive education reform.
10:25On Wednesday, the U.S. government shut down after congressional Democrats refused to support a Republican bill to extend funding for federal departments.
10:37The vote to extend federal funding for seven weeks fell short of the 60 supporters needed.
10:42In this context, Democrats insist that they would only support funding if President Donald Trump and Republicans agree to their healthcare demands.
10:50In response, the White House has threatened mass layoffs of federal workers if the government's funding is not maintained.
10:56The shutdown is the first since a 35-day closure that occurred in December 2018.
11:01Senate Republicans have scheduled another round of votes on the funding bill Wednesday morning.
11:06And we stay in the United States as President Trump's anti-immigration policies are negatively impacting his political image and approval.
11:19More details with our correspondent, Jorge Gestoso.
11:23President Trump's anti-immigration policies regarding immigration, mostly illegal immigration, is not having good results according to the polls in terms of his political career.
11:41A new CBS poll shows that 40% of Americans agree to the deployment of the National Guard to, quote-unquote, combat illegal immigration, while 58% are against the deployment of the National Guard.
12:00On the other hand, on the other hand, in the same type of poll, we're showing that the deployment of President Trump's decision has to do with that 4% of President Trump's deployment has said that was helping his image.
12:23Now is 4% against him, minus 4%.
12:28And also interesting, according to new polls, the image of the ICE, the immigration service that are precisely conducting those raids to, quote-unquote, clean the streets, according to President Trump, of illegal immigration.
12:46According to this new poll, during his first term, the image of the ICE was 0%, was not in favor, was not against.
13:01Today is minus 14% the immigration image that has ICE, according to how is conducting the immigration policies.
13:14The bottom line, according to an analyst, is this immigration policy, tough hand, again, immigration, is not working in his political favor.
13:27We'll get back to you now.

13:56In view of the possibility of further collapses, the agency urged visitors to stay away from the area.
14:01Previously, the outlying storms of Hurricane Umberto hit the island of Bermuda, followed by what is now Hurricane Imelda as it moves towards the United States.

14:32In this context, the number of victims and injuries are expected to increase as the situation is assessed.
14:37Under these circumstances, the authorities have requested the help of volunteer doctors to assist in the rescue efforts,
14:44giving the possibility of more victims under the rubble.
