00:00A new chapter begins for the WSL.
00:07Oh, what a shot!
00:14Oh, that's outrageous!
00:18Fantastic finish!
00:21How about this?
00:23Chelsea are the women's Super League champions.
00:33Hello and welcome to the Women's Football Show.
00:36After a two-week break which ended with the Lionesses thrashing the Matildas 3-0,
00:40the WSL is back.
00:42We have got six games to bring you,
00:44and we'll do it in the company of two former England internationals,
00:47Fern Whelan and Lindsay Johnson.
00:49Defensively, I'd say we're in good shape in the studio, you know?
00:52Speaking of being defensively strong,
00:54third place Manchester United were one of only two unbeaten sides this season.
00:58They travelled to Brighton who were undefeated at home heading into this one.
01:02Rich Wolfenden and Tanya Oxtoby watched on.
01:08Brighton start the weekend seventh in the table.
01:11Manchester United third.
01:13Manchester United, who have been brilliant in the WSL so far,
01:16wouldn't have wanted that international break.
01:18Can they pick up where they left off?
01:20Brighton turned out 3-0 winners here against Southampton in the League Cup.
01:24From that start in 11, only four remain.
01:26Marisa Oleslagos, Rosa Kofarji, Carla Camacho and Frank Kirby,
01:30who scored twice in that win, hold down their places.
01:33The Japan defender, Moeka Minami, comes in at full-back with their compatriot, Kiko Seca,
01:38starting in front of her down the Brighton right.
01:40Manchester United named one chain to the side that won 1-0 against Atletico Madrid in the Champions League the week before last.
01:46The goalscorer in that game, Fridolina Rolfo, starts this afternoon on the bench.
01:50In her place comes Jess Park, who's recovered from a concussion that saw her pull out of Serena Wiegmann's England squad.
01:56Sandberg's header runs further away and now the counter could be on.
02:06It's Park, there's three over here for Manchester United.
02:08Toon and Mallard are there.
02:10That's not good from Minami.
02:12It's Mallard.
02:13It's Toon.
02:14It's Park.
02:15It's brilliantly blocked.
02:17Fran Kirby going all the way back to make that block.
02:21You look at how much ground is being made up by the Brighton defenders here.
02:25The first tackle's missed.
02:27Fran Kirby's last-ditch tackle.
02:29Certainly really, really important and just as important as anything else she'll do today.
02:37Lots of Manchester United plays in this attack once again.
02:39Ziggy Otti's an option.
02:40Mallard leaves it for Toon.
02:42Mallard heard the shout, left the shot.
02:45And Toon will be disappointed that it was quite a recapit in the end.
02:50I think Toon, again, the standard she sets for herself, should be disappointed.
02:53She hasn't worked the keeper harder than that for that opportunity.
02:57The Canadians got room to move into here.
03:00Brighton's slow getting back.
03:02Riviere with time to weigh up the cross.
03:04Toon picks it up.
03:06Heavy touch.
03:07Toon finishes into the bottom corner.
03:11Questions of offside from Brighton and Hove Albion.
03:14But in the final minute of this first half, Toon is there with their second goal in the WSL this season.
03:20It's close, isn't it?
03:22And it is very close.
03:23But it's still got to be put in the back of the net.
03:25I think she kept her head.
03:26It's a really cool finish from Turland.
03:29Well, who did the last touch come off here?
03:30That's another point.
03:31Did it come off?
03:32Well, it came off the Brighton defender.
03:34Minami, I think it did.
03:36Just about.
03:37Referee claiming that one.
03:38They saw that in real time.
03:39Find out afterwards, I suppose.
03:46That's Paul from Minami.
03:48Park picks up the loose ball.
03:50And sees the run as well.
03:52It's Toon.
03:53It's Park.
03:54It's 2-0 Manchester United.
03:56Brilliant play from the Manchester United duo.
04:00This is great play.
04:03Brilliant pass to dissect the Brighton back line.
04:06And following up, brilliant finish.
04:08And Jess Park has been outstanding all afternoon.
04:10And that's a reward for her domination with the ball.
04:19Oh, and that's loose from Leticia.
04:21Seeker with a chance to pull one back for Brighton.
04:23Strikes the upright.
04:25It's the closest at the home side of come to score in this game.
04:29And Kiko Seeker couldn't take it.
04:32She did everything right from a technical point of view there.
04:35But just the execution.
04:36Just a couple of centimetres off.
04:40Olis Lagers pulls out of the sky pretty well.
04:42Gets it back as well.
04:43And slides it through to Fran Kirby.
04:45And Brian and Hove Albion are back in this game.
04:49Just over 20 minutes to go.
04:51And it's their starter, Fran Kirby.
04:53Who drags the home side back into it.
04:55Brian and Hove Albion 1.
04:56Manchester United 2.
04:57Fran Kirby doing what she does best.
04:59You know when she gets in these situations how cool and calm she is.
05:02Inside of the foot.
05:03Strokes it into the bottom corner.
05:04And United will be really, really disappointed to have not shut the door on that.
05:08Because it's game on.
05:12Gabi George.
05:13Heavy first touch.
05:14Keeps it though.
05:15Rolfo.
05:16She finds the cross at the back post.
05:18There's the header.
05:19What a save by Nadozi.
05:21Terling was up.
05:23And it looked like it was just going to float over the top of the Brighton goalkeeper.
05:26What a hand that was to put it over the crossbar.
05:31Blundell.
05:32Space down the right for Jess Park.
05:34Manchester United conceal it here.
05:36Away from Rule.
05:37Cuts it back for another shot.
05:38And another goal for Manchester United.
05:40Misenhausen finds the third.
05:44Park's composure here.
05:46Just to pick out a pass.
05:47Way to pass.
05:48It's beautiful.
05:49And it just allows the run to continue and just stroke the shot into the back of the net.
05:54And yeah I think that's that's game over now.
06:00Leticia to chase.
06:01Oh and she's lost it to Sekar.
06:03And Bryan with three and a half minutes to go in injury time.
06:07Have a second goal.
06:10And my oh my.
06:11Where did that come from?
06:12Maya Leticia very out of character with a mistake at the back.
06:17Great finish from Kiko Sekar.
06:20Inspired by Jess Park once again.
06:24Manchester United pick up three points on the road.
06:27As their unbeaten run in the WSL continues.
06:31They weren't at their absolute best.
06:33But when they needed quality.
06:35They delivered quality.
06:37Bryan and Hope Albion two.
06:39Manchester United three.
06:41Huge win and the quality moments in the game were the goals for us.
06:45Just those little moments of quality that we knew if we did right.
06:48We went in at half time.
06:50We should have been up in the game.
06:51And we didn't give ourselves that opportunity a little bit more than just the one.
06:54So we gave them the opportunity to come back into the game.
06:57I didn't really think they earned it.
06:58I felt that we gave it to them.
07:01We know what a great side Man United are.
07:03And we just came into it trying to play with no fear.
07:05And you know I can be proud of you know everything that we did today.
07:08And so can the team.
07:09But yeah I mean a little bit disappointed we didn't get something out of it.
07:11We'll talk about Brighton in a moment.
07:14But Manchester United hung on to remain unbeaten.
07:16They stay third.
07:17Jess Park absolutely ran the show.
07:19Lindsay what did she do that impressed you the most?
07:21Yeah not a bad day at the office.
07:23An assist and a goal.
07:24We see here from the clips.
07:26She picks the ball up in these central midfield areas.
07:28Driving through the middle and just playing the ball into Terland there.
07:32Always looking for a teammate here.
07:34Picks it up wide left.
07:35But drives infield.
07:37And again looking for the runs of a teammate.
07:39This time outside for Sandberg.
07:41Puts a good cross into the box.
07:43No one to get on the end of it.
07:45Now we can see her tracking doing those defensive responsibilities.
07:48Coming into the 18 yard box.
07:50Tracking that runner all the way to the back.
07:52And again she likes to have that high press.
07:55Putting the press on here onto Brighton.
07:57Wins the ball back.
07:58Understands there's nowhere to go forward.
08:00And brings that ball back.
08:02Recycles it.
08:03Keeps possession of the ball.
08:04Here she's nice and deep.
08:05Makes up a lot of ground going forward.
08:07Puts that high press on again.
08:08High aggressive press.
08:09Allows Riviere to win the ball back.
08:12And now we see her footwork and her silky skills.
08:14Vision.
08:15And that link up play with Ella Toome.
08:17Which is starting to build really nicely.
08:19And here.
08:20Nice finish.
08:21But that link up play with Ella Toome Fern is working really well.
08:25Yeah they've linked up for three goals already this season.
08:28The two of them.
08:29They spoke about it in their post match.
08:31How well they're working on it in training.
08:33And again we see here Jess Park with a pull back for Niles Sund as well.
08:36But it's something they're clearly working on behind the scenes.
08:38And it's paying off for them.
08:39It is indeed.
08:40Now another positive for Manchester United is that defender Hannah Blundell made her first appearance in over a year.
08:46After giving birth to her baby daughter.
08:48Which is massive for her isn't it?
08:50It is.
08:51And you know huge congratulations to Hannah.
08:53I think she's obviously worked so hard behind the scenes over the course of what's probably been a tough year for her.
08:58Especially having her baby by C-section.
09:00So just elongating their recovery time.
09:02And you know she's credited the Manchester United staff and the support for how they've got her back so soon as well.
09:08So you know congratulations to her.
09:10Big accomplishment.
09:11Let's talk about Brighton then.
09:13Because they had some really good spells didn't they?
09:15They're right to feel positive after that game aren't they?
09:17Yeah definitely.
09:18I think especially within that first you know 40-45 they defended really well.
09:22They were back to the walls at times and how they had to defend.
09:25And that's something I've seen from over the course of the last couple of games.
09:28They're structurally more sound in the defensive units than they have been before.
09:32And I think they're growing under Videsic.
09:33So I think going forward they can be really positive about the way they are playing.
09:37It's just that consistency throughout the games.
09:39Well they were dealt a major blow earlier this week.
09:42When it was confirmed that striker Michelle Adjimang's ACL injury has ruled her out for the rest of the season.
09:48Lindsay she's been so crucial for them hasn't she?
09:51She's started in five of their six WSL games so far.
09:54They are going to miss her aren't they?
09:56Yeah definitely.
09:57She obviously had a brilliant summer with the Lionesses and then come back to the WSL.
10:01Started every game and she's just an important pivotal player for Brighton.
10:05So she'll be missed by Brighton but also in the WSL as well.
10:09So we wish her a good recovery, a speedy recovery.
10:12Yeah we do indeed.
10:14Next up we're at Stamford Bridge where unbeaten league leaders Chelsea face London City Lionesses.
10:19A team making a name for themselves in their first season in the top flight.
10:23Commentary comes from Phil Blacker and Helen Ward.
10:25That was given away and it opens up already and somehow it's blocked on the line.
10:40Fantastic opportunity for Puff but she'll be disappointed she's not scored but fantastic defending by Sangare there for London City.
10:48It must be Chelsea here with Baltimore.
10:54Cooper Jones ahead of her.
10:56Still with Sunday Baltimore.
10:57Back to her in numbers here of London City but nobody could cut out the cross.
11:03And it will be turned in for the game's opening goal already.
11:07Ellie Carpenter is there to apply the finishing touch and the champions hit the front inside the opening six minutes.
11:14So much space out here for Baltimore initially but Fernandes is really well to hold her ground and stop her getting a clear shot on goal.
11:22But just that quick shift away drives it across the goal and Ellie Carpenter doing what all good forwards would do best.
11:30I think she's coming from a wing-back position there to score but she's had a brilliant start to her career at Chelsea
11:35and she'll be delighted with that opening goal.
11:37And there's the champs which is over the top from Goodwin.
11:43It did fall her way and snatched at it somewhat.
11:48Chelsea trying to play out again into Nuskun took to heavy touch.
11:52Great pressure from Gioro and that's the moment Izzy Goodwin's been waiting for.
11:57Godfrey.
11:58A solid line is keep on coming.
11:59Keep the pressure on with the corner as Aslani takes it.
12:00Aslani takes it at the most threatening towards the near post.
12:02London to risk in there as well though.
12:17And Aslani is on the end of it once more and it came through for Linares to have a hit.
12:23well they're still appealing it was there was a slight hint of my initial
12:27reaction was that could be a penalty
12:36slip through here for Goodwin outcomes Hampton at the feet of Izzy Goodwin
12:41Millie Brighton is able to come away with the ball
12:46it's incredible to her she comes out really quickly at the feet of Isabel
12:51Goodwin and closes down that space and energy is to save the shot
12:58given how open the game was at the start of surprise there's still only the one goal in it that might change right at the end
13:05we're eating Connor it with a chance to wrap it up wasn't far away
13:09now route one football from Chelsea is coming back into fashion isn't it now
13:14Kerr will try and chase this one down for Chelsea
13:19that he's come a long way and got there first but it comes back the way of Kerr off
13:23Pattinson and that'll do it instinctive Sam Kerr off the bench fortunate how it came the
13:31halfway but she was always going to make the most of it surely from there a long
13:37hopeful punt forward by Erin Cuffbert makes life difficult for the goal
13:41initially you feel he's done quite well but
13:44Poppy Pattinson just not able to control it
13:48as it comes to her and Sam Kerr absolutely alert
13:53now that's full time it's another win for Chelsea it was far from straightforward for Sonia Bonpastor's team at Stamford Bridge today despite
14:05scoring the the early goal just six minutes in they had to wait until stop it's time for the second
14:10taken so sharply so instinctively by the substitute Sam Kerr back doing what she
14:16does in Chelsea blue and it's finished Chelsea two London City line S is nil
14:22proud of my players because mentally we were resilient and yeah we didn't concede a lot
14:29we kept the clean sheet and I think that's the first time London City couldn't score against the team
14:34so I think it shows also a good performance from our side
14:37the mentality I cannot blame any any of them for not fighting hard on the contrary
14:43so this is what we need because this league is really really demanding
14:46so we try to create a group we try we are we try to create a team and I think this is what we are doing at the moment
14:55so Chelsea have also continued their unbeaten start to the season and Lindsay at the start of the season
15:02there was a lot of chat about how Sonia Bonpastor was going to get Lucy Bronze and Ellie Carpenter
15:06into the same team she managed it there yeah she did she definitely did and Ellie Carpenter did really
15:12well to get her first goal you can see here that Lucy Bronze is playing in that back three the right
15:17centre back of that back three which allows Ellie Carpenter to play as a more of a right wing back
15:22and in the same qualities as Lucy Bronze got she can get forward and we see here in this clip
15:27you know a marauding run really quick down that right hand side and Baltimore puts a really good ball
15:34into the box and Carpenter after that really good run into the box finishes and and she deserved that
15:40as well but it's a way of getting both of those players on the ball and on the pitch sorry Lucy
15:45Bronze so important as a defender for Chelsea but also an attacking threat and in this scenario you've
15:51got both players are able to play in that situation talking of attacking threats no one's more
15:56attacking than Sam Kerfern are they she's making a great comeback after injury and she clearly enjoyed
16:02that game didn't you yeah definitely you can see it just puts the keeper under just enough pressure
16:06to make it difficult and then the touch to her fortuitous and what a fantastic finish that is
16:10just to dink it over the defender like you say you can see exactly what it means to her coming back
16:15from injury and she's you know she's shown what she's capable of London City Lionesses seem to be
16:19growing in each game they seem to be improving do you think in the latter part of the season they can
16:25really disrupt you know the the top half of the table yeah definitely I do I think from what we've
16:30seen from obviously that like you say they're growing into games they're scoring in all the
16:33games they've played so far apart from today so that's what teams coming up before previously have
16:38found difficult to do and I think you know the early games where they had big defeats against Arsenal
16:43against Manchester City I think actually they've come at a time where they can they've had to hit the
16:47ground running and really learn early on so I think going forward it's really bright for them and
16:51really positive now they're they're gelling as a side well Hannah Hampton started in that game for
16:57Chelsea after a lot of unwanted attention following former England goalkeeper Mary Earp's comments from
17:03her upcoming book where she said Hampton being recalled to the England squad last year did not make her feel
17:08comfortable now after previously being dropped for being disruptive and unreliable now after the game
17:14Chelsea boss Sonia Bonpastor spoke out in support of Hampton saying Hampton has shown class in response to the
17:20comment she said with what I read in terms of the comments coming from Mary Earp's it's not acceptable
17:25to not show respect to your teammates or managers now since then Mary has released this statement
17:31saying I would never intentionally say things to hurt somebody that's not my style she added pulling out
17:36a paragraph or a sentence here and there is not a reflection of the contents of the book now Lindsay
17:42this has obviously sparked a lot of debate on social media there's a lot of headlines what do you make of it
17:47yeah I think first and foremost I think it's it's disappointing in my view that you know these
17:53negative opinions have been heard publicly I think in team sports and in particular football there's
17:59always going to be possibly issues on the pitch on the training pitch or in team selection but I
18:04personally think they should be dealt with in-house and not brought to the to the public view in my
18:09opinion Fern yeah I mean for me I think you've just got a question is it necessary and you know we talk
18:15about the goalkeepers union and the goalkeepers supporting each other on and off the field I think
18:19you've got a question has she done that probably not and for me we're at a stage where we're we're
18:24talking about football we want to talk about the great games that we're seeing today the amount of
18:27goals that we're seeing and actually keep the conversation about what we're seeing on the pitch
18:31rather rather than the nitty-gritty things behind the scenes well we'll get back on on to on to on the
18:37pitch matters in a moment but ahead of a much-awaited book launch there will be an exclusive
18:41interview with Mary Earps on the BBC Sport website this Tuesday the 4th of November you will not
18:47want to miss that now we head to the King Power Stadium where Leicester City were looking for a
18:52first league win in five to do that they need to overcome Arsenal for the first time in the WSL over
18:57to Emma Jones and Jenna Scalacci
18:59now with Little
19:10chance for a cross in from that wing Little touchdown to Russo
19:16and Arsenal take the leads
19:19ball in from the right-hand side Alessia Russo yeah really good Beth Mead there
19:28queen of the assists again out on that right-hand side whips the ball in it almost fell behind
19:34Blackstenius who couldn't reach it and it falls into the path of Russo who makes no mistake
19:39free kick for Arsenal
19:44lifted forwards bounces a couple of times maybe to be cut back to Ford that could well be an own goal
19:53the cross that came in I think might well have taken a touch of a Leicester City player
19:59on its way past Janina Leipzig the Arsenal fans though celebrate their second goal of this game
20:07but just after the half hour mark it is now Leicester City nil Arsenal two
20:13pass gets a little Leicester City touch but still finds its way to
20:19Mariana Caldente looks to her left and to her right
20:24now with Mead Blackstenius wants it oh what a brilliant goal to extend Arsenal's leads
20:34brilliant quick passing from the Gunners to make it Leicester City nil Arsenal three
20:41yeah really good from Arsenal another good team goal started deep in their own half
20:46perfectly weighted ball Russo there just linking up with Beth Mead again and it's all about that ball
20:51from Beth Mead just into the half space perfect pace on it and Blackstenius does really well
20:57to get in front of the defender
21:02meat collected by her again
21:06now with Mouchon little is trying to stay with her still with Mouchon this a chance for Leicester City
21:18who have a goal to celebrate in this second half the Leicester City number nine makes it
21:27Leicester one Arsenal three yeah fantastic she's been brilliant since she's come on in the second half
21:32just shows her turn of pace leaves the Arsenal defenders
21:36the dead and then she's got that composure
21:39never mind holding Arsenal to a goalless draw in this second half they might be able to say they won
21:45the second half against Arsenal here though it's with Blackstenius at the other end
21:51oh and the three goal cushion is back in an instance
21:55Stina Blackstenius her second Arsenal's fourth Leicester City one Arsenal four
22:03they say you're most vulnerable after you score and Arsenal have just proven that
22:08Leicester switching off again the ball over the top and this time Blackstenius
22:12absolutely fires it into the roof of the net
22:15and that is it the full-time whistle goes here at the King Power Stadium
22:25and it is Arsenal who will take the three points back to North London
22:30it has finished Leicester City one Arsenal four
22:34we said we wanted to set the tone for ourselves and I think we do that with how we start the game
22:41and we get an early goal I think we do a lot of really good things in the first half
22:45I think the second half they obviously make some changes bring some more physicality into the team
22:51and so it's harder for us to find the rhythm in the second half but I do think we end the game
22:56really well again so I'm really happy with a lot of things in our performance and of course very happy with the three points
23:03I'm really pleased with the response in the second half and also the players that came on and made a difference for us
23:10this week we've got to really you know just settle and then recognise where we can learn how we progress together
23:17as a group and grow and I think this is the biggest thing from today is learning from that experience against a really good top team
23:27Well they are a top team indeed Arsenal's third consecutive win in all competitions
23:32but we did learn from that Fern didn't we that Blax, Stenius and Russo can be quite a deadly partnership
23:38Yeah there's been a lot of talk beforehand of whether they can play together and how well they work as a team
23:43but today they definitely did that we see here and playing close together but Russo a little bit deeper off his shoulder
23:48and as the ball comes in it drops to her and she's created that space for herself and it's a great finish for her
23:53I thought she was phenomenal today and here we highlight Blax, Stenius in between the two centre-halves
23:57no one picking up Russo, no one even actually looking over their shoulders to see she's there
24:02and then again she just runs in behind off the back shoulder and she follows up a run and she causes the error
24:07sorry Keyes putting the ball into her own net but you know they did this throughout the game really well
24:13now Blax, Stenius taking a run from outside to in but again we highlight Russo not picked up in the centre of the park
24:20but what allows is that space for Blax, Stenius just to drive in field and first time fantastic finish
24:27and she leaves the keeper with no option but they did that throughout the game it was fantastic
24:30Yeah and as you've just highlighted as well Russo's got a lot of space in there just in that 10 position
24:35and it's that communication between the centre-halves and the midfield
24:39no one's picking her up and she's quite deep
24:41somebody in that midfield area's got to pick her up there haven't they?
24:44Yeah for me it was poor defending from Leicester you know you see it once, fair enough
24:48but then it happened time and time again no one was picking up and they didn't learn from the mistakes
24:51they were better in the second half but in the first half it wasn't good enough
24:54Well let's talk about that actually Lindsay because Leicester did improve in the second half
24:58what did they do? What did they change?
25:01Well I think you know obviously at half time they're 3-0 down it's quite difficult then
25:05so I think you've got to then look at what can we get in the second half
25:09and we saw the young forward there Mouchon coming through
25:11it was a fantastic finish he went through three players
25:14and was able to calmly and really compose finish that goal
25:18so that's you know that shows what they've got going forward
25:21they just need to again what we've just talked about defensively pick up those players
25:25Russo's a fantastic player it's not an easy job to do
25:28but there's no communication there that's got to be better
25:31and I'm sure Rick Passmore will have that on the training pitch next week
25:35Yeah well gathering from what he said I think he certainly will
25:39off to Birmingham now with Aston Villa's form on the up after a cup win over Bristol City
25:43they hosted 10th place Everton who'd never lost a league game away to Villa before
25:48over to Ben Andrews and Jilly Flaherty
25:50Good spell this for Everton
25:58and it sits for the shot here for Gago
26:03early lead for the Toffees
26:05in the fixture they always win
26:09they are winning 10 minutes in
26:11and it really has been a good spell
26:14they've capped it with another goal
26:15for Kelly Gago
26:17again just Aston Villa really struggling to clear their lines
26:20and considering a team that are essentially lining up with five at the back
26:24they're being so open in the wide areas
26:26Gago takes the touch
26:28I did think as she potentially lost the opportunity there
26:31because the touch doesn't really come out of her feet
26:33Maltby
26:36plenty in the box
26:40Meritz
26:42oh it's surely an equaliser it is
26:46in the eighth minute of stoppage time
26:49Georgia Mullet levels for Villa
26:52and all Everton's good defensive work undone
26:56their first potential clean sheet of the season is gone
26:59it is 1-1 at Villa Park
27:01strong play from the goalscorer Mullet
27:13into Kirstie Hansen
27:15and Kirstie Hansen
27:18makes it Aston Villa 2
27:20Everton 1
27:21it's a difficult one
27:22because you've only really got Hansen in the middle
27:24she just gets her head up there
27:26Hansen continuing to bust the gut
27:28to get across the defender
27:29and making sure that she's the first point of contact there
27:32quarter of the game to go
27:35Everton staring pretty hard at one point from 18
27:39unless
27:40oh what an effort that is
27:42all square again
27:44and it's turning into a ding-dong at Villa Park
27:46Kitagawa there with a beautiful bending finish there
27:51but it's poor defensive work from Aston Villa
27:53I don't think it was originally going in
28:04but Ruby Mace has diverted it
28:07and Aston Villa lead again
28:10I'm sure that was curling wide
28:14it's going to have to be an own goal
28:17that's come all the way through
28:25chance for 3-3
28:26and it couldn't have been closer
28:28frantic second half nearly had another twist
28:33real Nishikawa
28:36what an effort
28:38Martina Fernandes
28:44Vignola's been everywhere in this second half
28:48in a way that she really wasn't in the first
28:49despite how well Everton were playing
28:51and she's done well to get that cross in
28:53it's a brilliant cross
28:54Gago
28:54surely
28:55it's in for 3-3
28:57and a mob of celebration
29:00and this roller coaster has one final twist in it
29:05and the closing bend it has Everton
29:07pinching a point at Villa Park
29:09I don't know why everyone stands still
29:12everyone in the Villa defence
29:14everyone just stands
29:16Rachel Daly takes a step backwards
29:17and a pattern drops back to the line
29:19someone has to be brave enough
29:21to go and close that ball down
29:23we need to do better
29:25and we need to show up
29:27in the way we were doing
29:28because if not
29:29we are giving them chances
29:31and today
29:32we could win three points
29:33and we are only getting one
29:35I think we are by far the better team
29:36but there are also parts
29:38where we let ourselves down
29:39so yeah
29:39just keep working
29:41make sure that we get the details right
29:43and we do it
29:43I should say consistently over 90 minutes
29:45I don't think either manager
29:48was particularly pleased
29:49with that result in the end
29:51but Kelly Gago
29:52let's talk about her
29:53Fern because she
29:54brilliant dancing
29:56but also brilliant goal
29:57it was brilliant dancing
29:58for the celebration
29:59but she played really well today Kelly
30:01and I think she showed
30:01why she should be in that start in 11
30:03she was causing problems
30:04down this left hand side
30:05we see here
30:06with the goal
30:06it was a great finish from her
30:08but that wasn't the only opportunity
30:09she had
30:10again we see her kind of
30:11picking up a position
30:12within the box
30:13Aston Villa players
30:13can't get close to her
30:14she can't quite get the finish
30:15off that time
30:16but she makes no mistake
30:18on this occasion
30:19she's fierce to react
30:20when the ball's dropped
30:21and it's a good goal for her
30:22I think they might just
30:24rue the chances that they missed
30:25within the first half
30:26so it could have been
30:273-0 at half time
30:28Everton are struggling
30:29to get wins on the board
30:30they've only had one win
30:31this season
30:32and it was right at the beginning
30:33of the season
30:34what is it that they're
30:35not quite doing right?
30:37I think from a positive
30:38for Everton
30:39I think they're scoring
30:39more goals
30:40this season
30:41compared to
30:42what they have done
30:43in previous seasons
30:43gone by
30:44that's what they've struggled for
30:45so they can take that forward
30:46but I think for me
30:47it's that consistency
30:48and not conceding
30:49the sloppy goals
30:50that they are doing
30:51that they say
30:51they had chances today
30:52to put it to bed
30:54and they've conceded
30:54well three goals
30:56that they'll be disappointed with
30:57so for me
30:58they've got to really look
30:59at what they're doing
30:59defensively
31:00and how they can
31:01get more clean sheets
31:02in and around their own box
31:03Is it the same story
31:04for Aston Villa, Lindsay?
31:06Yeah, I think obviously
31:07today you had
31:08Mullet and Hanson
31:09both on the score sheet
31:11so they justified
31:12their starting
31:1311th
31:14their starting selection today
31:15I think particularly Mullet
31:17you know a young player
31:18she got a goal
31:19and assist
31:19very promising
31:20and good potential
31:21and we know what Hanson can do
31:23so a high scoring game
31:25and I think both
31:26both teams
31:27could have come away
31:27with the win today
31:28Six goal thriller
31:29we'll take that won't we
31:30Let's turn our attention
31:32to Tottenham now
31:32who are hoping to bounce back
31:34after their London derby defeat
31:35at Chelsea last time out
31:36their opponents
31:37a Liverpool side
31:38desperate to end
31:39a run of seven
31:40consecutive WSL defeats
31:42commentary comes from
31:43Emily Herbert
31:44and Lindsay Johnson
31:45Liverpool are on the attack
31:59here
31:59it is a goal
32:01did the offside flag
32:04stay down
32:05and Liverpool
32:07are ahead
32:09it's Olsen
32:10he's Fiske who drove
32:11with the ball forward
32:12Rybrink just
32:14playing her on
32:15slightly on this
32:16left hand side
32:16for Tottenham Hotspur
32:18she definitely looked offside
32:19but I don't know if Rybrink
32:20when the ball was played
32:22back into Olsen
32:23if Rybrink was playing her on
32:26and that's exactly what
32:29this Liverpool side needed
32:31you know
32:31it looked offside
32:32the goal stands
32:34but they'll take any goal
32:35as they come Liverpool
32:36for what played out
32:38and here is
32:38Olsen again
32:39looking for a second
32:40in the game
32:41good save by Kopp
32:42diving down low
32:44and manages to
32:47keep Spurs in this
32:48Leeser Kopp
32:50but warning signs
32:52for Tottenham here
32:53played along the grounds
32:55there is Holt
32:57Holt still with some room
32:59tries to cut it back
33:00and it's tapped in
33:01by Koga
33:03and it's an equaliser
33:06for Tottenham
33:07fantastic play
33:09by Holt
33:09I thought she'd lost
33:10her opportunity
33:11I thought she'd held on
33:12to the ball too long
33:13but she was able to
33:14take it to the byline
33:15but it's that
33:16delivery
33:17the height she gets
33:18on the delivery
33:19to miss out
33:20Kirby in goal
33:21will be slightly
33:22disappointed
33:23she couldn't get
33:23a fingertip to it
33:24but yeah
33:25Koga's not going to
33:26score an easier goal
33:27than that
33:27get to tap in
33:28Suminen
33:30they go out
33:32and it's crossed in
33:32Spence with a header
33:33and cleared by
33:35Kirby
33:36and that's a header
33:38on target
33:39and
33:40it's forced Kirby
33:42into a save
33:43Suminen
33:48pressuring well
33:49here is Holt
33:50here is Holt
33:50the run of Nildon
33:53is picked up well
33:54and now Nildon
33:55will have an opportunity
33:56Bethany England
33:57and England
33:59will tap it in
34:00and Spurs
34:02lead in this game
34:03for the first time
34:04yeah really good play
34:06yeah really good play
34:06it's Holt
34:07who placed that ball
34:08out wide
34:08Nildon that first time
34:10come back
34:11perfectly timed run by
34:13Beth England
34:14just places it
34:16into the back of the net
34:17fantastic goal for Tottenham
34:19Kapox
34:24some room for Liverpool
34:27maybe
34:27on this left hand side
34:28Woodham
34:29to find Holland
34:30and here is Kapox
34:31good play
34:32and Enderby
34:33with a strike wide
34:35well it's come almost
34:36from nothing
34:37from Liverpool
34:38and Enderby
34:39just placing that
34:41final ball wide
34:42yeah good play
34:43again Woodham involved
34:45just plays the ball
34:46into that central area
34:47this ball here
34:48from Kapox
34:49out to Enderby
34:50she snatches at it
34:52doesn't she
34:52because of
34:53the pressure from Koga
34:55when you come back
34:56after international break
34:57to get into a rhythm again
34:58when you've had
34:59so many disconnections
35:00from different players
35:01going with different nations
35:02and you're having
35:04a couple of days to prepare
35:05I think the players today
35:06we knew it was going to be
35:07a tough game
35:07we knew it was going to be a fight
35:08and I think we dug in really well
35:10at the moment
35:11we are showing glimpses
35:13like I've said previously
35:14in certain moments of the game
35:16and just not able to sustain it
35:17because
35:18due to various
35:20various factors
35:21Lindsay
35:22great commentary
35:23as always
35:24Tottenham's win
35:26means that
35:26they stay fourth
35:28but they're really starting
35:29to build some momentum
35:30aren't they
35:30under their manager
35:31Martin Ho
35:32yeah I've been really impressed
35:33with them this season
35:34I think it's night and day
35:35from where they finished
35:36last season
35:37they finished
35:37last season in 11th
35:39under Robert Wilhelm
35:40and Martin Ho's come in
35:41he's brought in energy
35:42passion
35:43but the most important thing
35:44for me
35:45is that they've got
35:45an identity now
35:46they've got a real
35:47attacking phase
35:50now of play
35:50they look to get
35:52on the front foot quickly
35:53they're aggressive
35:53in their play
35:54and they look to score goals
35:56as well
35:56and defensively
35:57they're really robust
35:58at the back
35:59and don't really concede goals
36:00so I've been really impressed
36:02with Martin Ho
36:03this season
36:04and Tottenham Hotspur
36:04and Olivia Holt
36:05as well has been
36:06incredibly impressive
36:07for them
36:08what is it that
36:08she's been doing
36:09that you've liked
36:10yeah she dictates
36:11play from that
36:12midfield area
36:13today
36:13she pulled the strings
36:14for Tottenham Hotspur
36:16we can see here
36:16she's involved
36:17in both of the goals
36:18she just switches
36:19this play
36:20she has the vision
36:21to be able to see
36:22that run from Nildon
36:23and just links that play
36:24but she's constantly
36:25looking for those
36:26forward passes
36:27putting pressure
36:28on the opposition
36:28and looking to affect
36:30that goal area
36:31and she's having
36:32a real good start
36:33to the season
36:33like I say today
36:34she was player of the match
36:35by a mile
36:37a really good game
36:37for her today
36:38no halting halt
36:39do you like
36:40what I did there
36:41I like it
36:41Fern let's talk
36:43about Liverpool
36:43because they started
36:44really well
36:45in that game
36:46but they've had
36:46a difficult start
36:47to the season
36:48they've had a lot
36:48of injuries
36:49and there's more
36:49bad news for them
36:50as well
36:51Mia Enderby
36:52was stretched off
36:53at the end
36:53of that game
36:54with what we think
36:55was a neck injury
36:56she's been taken
36:56to hospital
36:57but this is another
36:58big blow
36:59for Gareth Taylor's side
37:01yeah I mean
37:01it just adds
37:02to their injury
37:03woes doesn't it
37:03I mean
37:04it was really difficult
37:05to see that
37:06and hair coming off
37:06so obviously
37:07we wish Mia well
37:08but I think
37:08in terms of
37:09the injuries
37:09they've got
37:09they've got
37:10severe injuries
37:11to obviously
37:11Roman Hoag
37:12Marie Herbinger
37:13so that's going
37:14to halt
37:15where they need
37:15to be
37:16but also for me
37:17today I think
37:17they started well
37:18they score a goal
37:19they then go on
37:20to concede
37:20sloppily from a set
37:21piece
37:21so it's about
37:22staying in games
37:23and concentrating
37:23at those vital
37:24moments
37:25and I think
37:26the longer this
37:26goes on
37:27it's obviously
37:27going to be
37:28really difficult
37:29for them
37:29from a mental
37:30perspective
37:30added to the
37:31things that have
37:32happened to them
37:32obviously really
37:33disappointingly
37:34and sadly
37:34over the last
37:35couple of weeks
37:35so that mental
37:37kind of strength
37:38is going to be
37:39brought upon
37:40for them
37:40and now
37:40they've got to
37:41go and take
37:41that into games
37:42as well
37:42so it's a really
37:43difficult time
37:43for Liverpool
37:44at the moment
37:44and obviously
37:45having no points
37:46on the board
37:47as well
37:47is Gareth Taylor
37:48under pressure
37:49in terms of
37:51I mean
37:51yeah he will be
37:51under pressure
37:52because of
37:52where they're
37:53sitting
37:53in terms of
37:54position
37:54I think
37:55they will
37:55give him
37:55time
37:56obviously
37:56looking into
37:57the January
37:58window
37:58to try and
37:59make changes
37:59and obviously
38:00hopefully get
38:00some people
38:01back from injury
38:03potentially
38:03and maybe just
38:04looking at the
38:05style and the way
38:05they're playing
38:06at the moment
38:06they're obviously
38:07trying to play
38:07a style of football
38:08that is
38:09fancy and
38:10attractive to watch
38:12but I think
38:12maybe it's how
38:13do we win games
38:14how do we get
38:14points on the
38:15board first and
38:16foremost
38:16and then we
38:17evolve into the
38:17type of team
38:18that we want to
38:19evolve into
38:19under the new
38:20manager going
38:20forward
38:21well finally
38:23we head over
38:23to second
38:24place
38:24Manchester
38:25City
38:25flying high
38:26after five
38:26league wins
38:27on the
38:28bounce
38:28they welcomed
38:28a West Ham
38:29side sitting
38:30at the bottom
38:31of the table
38:31after six
38:32defeats from
38:32six so far
38:34this season
38:34watching the
38:35action
38:35Max Jones
38:36and Luke
38:36Chambers
38:37Gori
38:43that's for
38:44Endo to
38:45arrive
38:45that's a
38:46brilliant
38:46ball in
38:46for Ueki
38:47with a chance
38:48saved
38:50by Yamashita
38:51denying her
38:53international
38:53colleague
38:54the game's
38:55first really
38:56big opportunity
38:57goes to West Ham
38:58anywhere else
39:00in that goal
39:00where she could
39:01get the shot
39:02off and it's
39:021-0 West Ham
39:03Tysiak needs
39:09to be careful
39:09here that's
39:10maybe so
39:11the goalkeeper
39:12short who does
39:13bring down
39:13Bunny short
39:14it's not really
39:18a penalty for me
39:19but if you've
39:20got your blue
39:20hat on
39:21certainly you'll
39:22be calling
39:22for it
39:23giving away
39:26and here's
39:27Viviana
39:27Miedema
39:27she has
39:28willing runners
39:29left and
39:30right
39:30it's
39:30Fugino
39:31who does
39:32score this
39:33time
39:33Alba Fugino
39:35scores in
39:36back-to-back
39:37games
39:38it was an
39:39important goal
39:40against Liverpool
39:41last time out
39:42but this one
39:42will just
39:44settle
39:44those citizens
39:46it's the mistake
39:48from Zdorski
39:49and it's that
39:49one there
39:50Miedema
39:50she has been
39:51the threat
39:52the one that
39:52looks like
39:52she's going
39:53to create
39:53something
39:53and the way
39:54she draws
39:55in three
39:55West Ham
39:56defenders
39:56and then
39:57just delivers
39:58it
39:58on a plate
39:59for
39:59Fugino
40:00that one
40:01was dealt
40:02with and
40:03dispatched
40:03brilliantly
40:04Martinez
40:07to carry this
40:11ball a long
40:12long way
40:12the German
40:13and she's
40:13found a
40:14say
40:14of the
40:15crossbar
40:16another chance
40:18goes begging
40:19for West Ham
40:20and she's
40:21denied by the
40:23frame of the
40:24goal
40:24Fugino
40:29oh that's a
40:30brilliant ball
40:31and Hasegawa
40:32couldn't direct it
40:33on targets
40:34the reverse pass
40:36for Hasegawa
40:37was absolutely
40:38brilliant
40:38doesn't score
40:39too many of
40:39those but
40:40great driving
40:41run forward
40:42it should probably
40:43have been
40:442-0 Man City
40:44seems to have
40:49been a hand
40:50ball here
40:50now an
40:50opportunity
40:51for Man City
40:52to put the
40:52ball in
40:53but not
40:53sure what
40:54Sadorski
40:54can do
40:55there to
40:55get out
40:55of the
40:55way of
40:56that
40:56Hasegawa
40:58teasing
40:58one in
40:59and it's
40:59off the
40:59frame
41:00of the
41:00goal
41:00before
41:00Fugino
41:01rifles it
41:02back in
41:02yet to
41:03be cleared
41:04Fugino
41:05again
41:06and West Ham
41:07just about
41:09smother
41:09that one
41:10clear
41:10prior
41:13she's got
41:14to be
41:14thinking
41:14this is
41:15a goal
41:15certainly
41:15it's a
41:17good team
41:18West Ham
41:18they are
41:19really
41:19battling
41:20and they
41:21have
41:21some
41:22chances
41:22also
41:22in
41:23first
41:23up
41:23where
41:23I
41:23think
41:24we
41:24were
41:24not
41:24good
41:26enough
41:26we
41:26were
41:27not
41:27on
41:27our

41:27I
41:28think
41:28we

41:28lucky
41:28leading
41:291-0
41:29in
41:29half
41:30time
41:30but
41:32second
41:32half
41:32is
41:32totally
41:33different
41:34I
41:34think
41:34we
41:34dominate
41:34the
41:35game
41:35and
41:35play
41:35like
41:36we
41:36supposed
41:37to
41:37do
41:37I
41:37thought
41:38we
41:38were
41:38so
41:38diligent
41:39around
41:39the

41:40made

41:40really
41:41hard

41:41so
41:42the
41:42belief
41:42in
41:43the

41:43was
41:43brilliant
41:44we

41:47edge
41:47but

41:56saying
41:57she
41:57was
41:57frustrated
41:58not to
42:00get
42:00something
42:01from

42:05see
42:06why
42:06she's
42:06frustrated
42:07because
42:07they

42:12within

42:13so
42:13for me
